Baron & Eddie #2

The Tender Familiar

Rate this book
Baron Templeton and Eddie Hammond once formed the backbone of the greatest band of all time. Then, they broke up. But somewhere in between - amid social change and songs, worries and wives, cats and children - they shared an illicit love affair whose impact would reverberate across history. In this series of interconnected short stories that are searing, sexy, and, above all, tender, F. Fox North returns to the world of Saffron to tell the secret history of two men that the world wanted to tame - but ultimately never would.

My words will not do this book any justice. I'm moved. I'm mad. I'm heartbroken. I'm happy, yet conflicted about it. But mostly I'm astounded by this talented author and the achingly beautiful story they wrote at the behest of one Baron Clement Templeton. I'm so glad that Baron kept talking to them because I craved the raw emotions and dirty details that I knew existed within The Chaos Agents, but were kept just out of reach. I wanted that gut punch, to get the wind well and truly knocked out of me. Well, consider me windless now. As in no air left in this body, just a bunch of water that keeps leaking from my eyeballs. Eddie would say I'm a foocking mess and he'd be right.

This addition to the Baron and Eddie saga turned an already remarkable piece of art into a masterpiece. It was thought provoking, emotional, and written with a perfect balance of brutal honesty and wild imagination. It was impossible to put down. I feel like I know these characters now - flaws, scars and all. I loved getting more insight into Baron and Eddie's relationship and feeling the full impact of what it meant to fall in love with the right person at the wrong time. I was also glad to get more time with Matthew, Naomi, Cymbeline and Sid, as well as an introduction to my new favorite guitarist, Five. I will never forget any of these characters, nor do I want to. In fact, I'll gladly accept more of them (Five needs a book! Also, what happened to Zachy?). Apparently 864 pages plus a 70 page short story are just not enough for me. So I hope that when the weather starts to cool, Baron shows up again, calling for Alonzo Kittycat so he can coerce Fox into telling us what happened next.

amazing sequel!!!

I absolutely loved The Chaos Agents, and the Tender Familiar was the perfect follow up. Here we get the behind the scenes, both past and future. We see where Naomi and Matt ended up, and we get to meet the glorious Five (I am obsessed with him!!! He needs a book!!). Sid and Cymbeline, when Cymbeline is trying her best to hold on. And of course, Baron, Eddie, and the boys of Saffron.
Though it’s hinted in the first book, here we see the truth of Eddie and Baron’s relationship and how much they truly loved each other. There’s also the history of the items in book 1 (Baron’s guitar, Ed’s brick). I’m truly obsessed with this series and I highly recommend it. It’s mysterious and romantic and absolutely beautifully!
