*This is a SHORT bonfire night novella. It DOES end on a cliffhanger. This is a very DARK bully gang why choose romance, meaning it contains dark content that may be unsuitable for some, please see authors note in front of book.
My birthday is on the 5th of November, so obviously I gotta read everything that's set (or published) on that day. I've also been meaning to get into this author's books, so why not start with Torment Me? Plus the full book is coming out on the 26th, so I don't have to wait too long to continue the series.
Normally I'd start from the very beginning of a shared world, but I don't think this one is as connected to the other books as they are to each other, so I feel okay with starting here. But trust me, I am definitely going back and reading EVERYTHING K. L. Taylor-Lane has ever written.
I really love the writing style, the descriptions, the fact that the heroine is tall (mwah), the plot, and the characters.
It's a shorter read, but I had no problems connecting to the characters or getting into the story, it was engaging from the get go.
We got PoVs from both Ember and the boys. So far Blaze is my favourite, but we'll see how I feel when the others get more page time in the next book. Personally though, I'm such a sucker for a shared past, and that he protected her when they were younger. That'll be hard to beat.
The ending was a cliffhanger and a mean one, I can't even be mad because it was good (and because I conveniently didn't start this until a week away from book two's release). Super exited to see where it goes from here!!
To be honest it was written well however I skimmed A lot of the sex scenes. Not sure why Ember even bothered to go to the party. Especially being prone to panic attacks since she was kidnapped, drugged and had an organ stolen. So how could she trust Blaze so easy to end up in a similar predicament.
I read this after seeing someone else's review and boyyyy, it did not disappoint. The way it's written is done so well, it's almost melodic and the descriptions are so bang on that visualising the story, surroundings and emotions is effortless. It's such an easy read to follow, it deals with some heavy stuff but is written incredibly well.
I'm so intrigued by these characters. I want to know everything about Ember and what she went through before. I want to know how she got the Scar and how Blaze is involved. I want to know absolutely everything about The Ashes Boys. I just need that full length novel like yesterday because I'm fully invested in these guys now.
Ma’am. Mrs. K.L. Taylor-Lane, we need to talk. What in the ever loving heck was that ending? You cannot just leave off like that!! Omg this novella was so good. I cannot wait for the full length book. I need to know more about The Ashes Boys and Ember. This is a dark read, please check the trigger warnings before diving in.
This was my first book by this author and it definitely didn’t disappoint.
Cute little novella to set the scene before going into the main book and let me say… i cannot wait. Blaze???? You’re kidding. AND FLINT?! 🤪🤪 (i have issues, okay? They’re acknowledged, just not addressed)
Cant wait to get stuck into Bury me, and with that cliffy, its gonna be a brutal one😮💨
Torment Me by K.L. Taylor-Lane is a dark bully gang why choose romance novella. This is a novella setting up The Ashes Boys series coming in 2023.
This is the first book of K.L.'s that I have read, and it won't be my last. I was pulled in from the first chapter and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I liked that we got Ember, Blaze, Cole, and Flint's points of view.
The book ended on a great cliffhanger that left me begging for more. I can't wait for Bury Me to be released in 2023.
I was recommended this book by @smutandhorror and @tylalikesspice_ when we went to Shenanigans Book Signing a few weeks ago and I am so glad they did!
After spending some time alone, Ember is invited to a party on Bonfire Night and gets a little more than she bargained for when she comes face to face with Blaze. I really enjoyed this little novella and ABSOLUTELY need to know more about The Ashes Boys! I loved that their names all related to fire of some sort. Everything was thought out and connected really well!
Torment Me is a suspenseful,near-perfect introduction leading up to Bury Me. Ember’s struggles with confidence and mental health made her a very relatable character. As a reader, it was difficult to watch her go through struggles I have gone through myself. I just want to see Ember get her HEA.
Torment Me is a fast-paced, descriptive novella that ends on a cliffhanger (you’ve been warned!).
K.L. Taylor-Lane laid out the bait, and I grabbed it with both hands. I can’t wait to read the next installment of The Ashes Boys.
Torment Me is perfect for readers who enjoy their MMCs pierced and tattooed, a dark and disturbing story, and a cliffhanger setting up another one of K.L.’s delicious harems.
I don’t think I will ever not love something this talented author pens and this little surprise has me in chokehold!! ***this is a prequel and does in a cliffhanger***
Ember is a young woman who doesn’t “people” well. Her intro is heartbreaking with how she is kind of kept hidden away but that all changes when she escapes from her prison of a home to go to a party with a friend.
Blaze, Flint and Cole - one likes to chase his prey, one likes fire, and the other likes to make sad people smile. All three with psychotic in their own ways, but I am entranced with them and want to know more.
This is a fast paced, suspenseful intro that I devoured. KL introduces characters that I want more of with a storyline I am dying to continue and really enjoyed how she flawlessly dances between suspense, chaos and steam. This is definitely something I am looking forward to continuing and know I am going to love.
Wow. I just absolutely devoured this novella. Bonfire night is one of my favourite nights of the year so when this was released today I just had to instantly read it.
First, I found Ember highly relatable. The entire way through this story I could just relate to her fears, feelings and actions. The way she hates crowds, interacting with people and being touched. Girl same. I wanted to hold her and heal her. I love feeling like I’ve bonded with a FMC.
I loved KL’s writing. This was my first read by her although I am planning on reading everything she’s written now. Her use of descriptive language made me feel like I was there and god how I wish I was there.
The Ashes Boys 🔥 Blaze, Cole, Flint and Phoenix 😩🫶🏻 I am OBSESSED with them all. I need their stories. We’re offered tit bits to draw us in and get us hooked. Very clever @kltaylorlane_author 👀 I cannot wait for the full legnth story. I am a slave to these men 🧎🏻♀️
DAMN! For a prequel story this one sure packed one hell of an emotional punch to the lady parts! It was extremely dark, utterly twisted, depraved, violent and titillating from start to finish. It had me gripping my kindle tightly and holding my breath right to the very dramatic and explosive cliff-hanger of an ending.
There is so much going on with Ember, Blaze, Flint, Cole and Phoenix that you can’t help but be intrigued by this story and desperately want to know more about their pasts. The little snippets that we are given are only just a taste to whet our appetites for what is sure to be an explosive and tasty full-length novel that I can’t wait for.
Brilliantly written little morsel of delicious depravity that made my little black heart squeal with delight.
Ember is a frightened little rabbit. Her anxiety and panic feels palpable every time she leaves the house or someone gets too close. We don’t know all the details of her past, just that her family came up from the crowded, shabby apartments and has been living in the lap of luxury for the past ten years.
Ember is the ordinary one in her family. She has nothing to show for herself.
And then she runs into Blaze and his boys. And all at once, her world is flipped upside down but feels … right.
KL Taylor-Lane does not shy away from digging out mental history and the effects of trauma. It was raw, visceral, uncomfortable. Do not approach if you have any triggers.
A short DARK bully gang why choose novella or prequel that ends on a brutal cliffhanger. Thankfully their full story will be out very soon!
Embers first time escaping the house to go to the Bonfire Night party only to meet the Ashes Boys. This book was just enough to hook you and leaving you wanting soooooo much more! I almost took stars away for how upset I was when I flipped to the next page and that was it 😫😫.
K.L. Seamlessly blended the suspense, chaos and spice. She does not shy away from the mental health of her characters. This does have MM along with other triggers if you have any just be aware.
I am her for Blaze the leader, Flint, Cole and Phoenix and all their morally dark dark grey!
This book is such a good introduction to all of the characters of the Ashes Boys story. Ember is a lonely sad girl who’s often left alone in her parent’s big house. Embers parents used to be poor and live in an area that has lots of gangs, however her dad started making a bunch of money and he moved them to a gated big house. Ember plots with a friend to leave one night and go to a bonfire. Upon arriving there Ember run into her childhood best friend who saved her life once upon a time, only for Ember to trust Blaze with everything and to be betrayed. This is a dark bully why choose romance and this is just the beginning of the story. This novella is super important to the overall story of the Ashes Boys. I couldn’t wait to dive into the second book. Each of the boys characters are introduced and you only find out the very beginning of the story.
Definitely want more of these boys. Does that make me sick? Don’t care! This story was both disturbing and frightening, and…pulled me in so far I’m actually still shaking a little bit with slight fear for our girl. I’m on the fence as to who’s going to destroy who though in the next book(s) bc this is a “love story” that will surely go up in flames like a nuclear bomb detonation and I am so fracking excited to read it! Oh, and mind the TW’s darling, this one is not for the faint of heart.
Great storyline! Definitely going to be a dark and spicy full-length novel coming up next. I give it a 4.5. The only reason I did a half star off is for personal reasons. I'm not a huge fan of books that are written of mainly descriptive narrative. I prefer conversation. This book had very little talking, and a whole slew of description. But don't let that deter you, the story itself was great and the next one's going to be amazing I bet! On the plus side, descriptive writing is a really great when it comes to the spicy;)
AHHHHHH I CANT WAIT FOR THE ASHES BOYS NOW!!!!!! K.L. we are gonna have serious words. these crazy boys have found themselves a toy and i am HERE FOR IT.. this is the perfect novella to really get you excited for whats to come.. honestly, if you have read any of her books you know theres a DELICIOUS level of crazy f***ked upness that just makes your mouth water.. and The Ashes Boys is going to be no different.
SIGGGGGGGH, the anticipatory (is that a word lmao) waiting begins!
There’s nothing like a blurb that intrigues you get tells you nothing about the book you’re going to read. Torment Me is one of those but it’s also a K L Taylor-Lane so I opened it knowing I was going to enjoy it.
Maybe “enjoy” wasn’t the right choice of word. There’s a pervading darkness to this book that could make other dark novels squirm. The trigger warnings aren’t there because The themes are merely brushed upon; one particular one is so much a part of the story that you can feel yourself falling back in your own moment. The story we’re embarking on is set against the backdrop of Ember’s trauma and emotional pain; it consumes her being and motivates her every reaction.
As the story unfolds Taylor-Lane hints at a nightmarish event which Ember was subjected to. Subtle phrasing leaves the reader wondering if the mysterious Ashes Boys are related to that point in Ember’s life and whether there’s more at play than her childhood connection to Blaze.
If you’re a fan of K L Taylor-Lane’s previous novels, especially the Blackwell Brothers series, you’ll love the modern gothic writing style and the way she dredges up the character’s depth of emotions. It’s a short story but Torment Me is one that will captivate you and leave you desperate to read more.
LOOOOVE this! I'm just so bummed it ended on a cliffhanger!!!
Ember has been sheltered (and rightly so although we don't fully find out why - we get snippets) and she reluctantly decides to go to a party with a friend. The house is a dilapidated farmhouse out in the middle of nowhere and the party is hosted by 4 intimidating, crazy in their own ways (but hot - of course!) men, one of whom she discovers she knows previously.
EVEN THOUGH I know book two will eventually end in an HEA I still had heart palpitations over the cliffhanger! Argh!!!
KL Taylor-Lane out here delivering some hot hot heat with her newest novella, Torment Me. I devoured this story and it’s left me desperate for more, Ember and the Ashes Boys are sinful delight. The symbolism and imagery that KL’s writing invokes makes you feel as though you are immersed in this story. Torment Me is only the beginning of the Ashes Boys and I cannot wait for more of this scorching foursome and Ember. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Since I read ‘Heron Mill’ I was excited to read more books by the author, so of course that I needed to put this book on my TBR. Again, one more great book. Here we have a short story (less than 100 pages) about a rich girl, who suffered a kidnapping in adolescence and, since then, was traumatized for that. Recluse and without friends, she, at 22 years old, desperately needed some freedom, so a Halloween party is everything that she could ask for. Meeting old friends at this party, she thought that her night was successful, but what she didn’t imagine is that time has a way to modify people. With secrets, mystery and an amazing introduction to a good RH with possessive and a little crazy guys, this book is a good choice if you like dark themes and disturbed characters.
This was dark and scary af I mean holy flipping shit it was thrilling and gory and spicy That fucking cliffhanger man!!!! I need more rn I am soooo excited for the full length novel If you want intense darkness, with spice and death then read this… I’m beyond creeped out by the fire scene and ‘happy faces’ rn… that imagine has been burned into my brain! I fucking loved it *check TW before reading*
This was incredible! For such a small novella, you get so much. These men are something else and I can’t wait for more of them. The bits of Embers past are enough to keep you wanting more, and I do! I need more!! You get spice and bits of plot along the way. Intrigued about all of their pasts and the secrets they hold. The full length novel can’t come soon enough!!
Beautifully dark! Definitely check trigger warnings and if you are squeamish about any of them, you may want to pass. The queen does it again. Sucked in from the very beginning until the edge of your seat ending. This novella brought all the feels and I Can’t wait for their full book. *bows down in awe
Ooookaaaay KL, I see you over there setting the literary world on fire! Wow, I cannot wait to dive into this series! This novella was the perfect introduction to Ember and the guys. Blaze is so complex and I can’t wait for more of him. I’m excited to see what Ember’s got hiding inside of her because I really think she’s stronger then she realizes. I can’t wait for this series to really kick off!
The author is very descriptive of how the characters feels and what’s going on around them. At times it’s repetitive and too much.
With that being said, I will continue to read everything she writes. I love the layers and depth of her characters. In every book They are all seriously fucked up and twisted and I love them. I am excited to see where this one goes.
Dark and spicy this was a fantastic Halloween novella. The ashes boys are the best brand of wicked and unhinged and I look forward to their full book coming soon. Ember decided to take a risk and sneak out with her friend to a party. There she reunites with Blaze and finds she doesn't mind when he touches her. But will she regret letting him back into her life?
Ember has been tucked away. Homeschooling and doesn't do well being touched, silence been taken. She sneaks out with her friend Della and sees Blaze from her past. Thinking she could trust him until she finds herself in another bad situation, begging him to no avail. T/W no for sensitive readers.
