Until he entered my life unexpectedly, making me question things I thought I knew and giving me something that I never had—a movie type of love. I feel like I'm the luckiest girl alive living in my very own romance movie, only to be pulled into the harsh reality that love isn't as easy as movies make it out to be. Love is complicated, love is work, and love can be tragic. Falling in love for the first time feels like you're on fire; that kind of lust and passion burns inside you, pulling you in unexpected ways. Dancing wild in the heat ignites me in ways I have never known, but just like fire, love can burn if I'm not too careful.
One happenstance interaction changed me forever, and my life was never the same from the moment my eyes met his. Our love story began full of firsts for not only me but for the experienced boy who never liked who he was. I changed him, and he changed me; one thing will change us forever.
Excuse me while i try not to sob trying to get through this review.-
This book was everything and more. It was the PERFECT coming of age story and finding love and watching it bloom and blossom. It brought me back to when i was the age of the fmc and was figuring out life and boys and love for the first time. This book had me from the very beginning and left me wanting to know what happens next, i couldnt put it down!!
Then when the loop was thrown in there and the happiness wave came crashing down.. i sobbed. My heart broke in two for the fmc and i cant even begin to fathom having that happen && left me with so many questions, though i already had many questions before that. My questions are simple:
- why arent laynie and ryker together?! Are we going to get a backstory for them or will they end up being end game? (Gosh i so hope so!!) - did jackson do something to the car? And how the hell does that boy disappear so quickly?! - are maverick and sawyer secretly a thing? Will we still be getting their insights in the next book on how they are coping? -what will the future have in store for rayne now and will the grey eyed man play a role in the second book?! -also christian, WHYYYYYYYYY?!?!?! *insert tears here*
Overall i loved every minute of this book and i will definitely be reading the second and any other book jessica comes out with. Shes instantly an automatic buy author for me!
The Road to Oblivion is something to behold and something to really read. A Young Adult book, that showcased love in a way that just resonates with you. It didn't just hold romantic love as many books do, but showed every form of it, from friendship to familial.
I was captured from the moment I started reading. The little touches that this book held were amazing and gave it great feel. It immersed you into the book as the words drew you in.
The abrupt friendship between the FMC and her best friend was something I loved, and it stuck with me because it depicted a true friendship and the nature of it. I enjoyed the fact that it was written in sense of showing girl power. Where these friends uplifted one another and back each other up when they needed each other.
The parts that I found great were the parts without tragedy. The FMC didn't have a tragic background, yet it made her stronger. Tragedy struck of course, but it emboldened her and that's what I liked about Jessica's book.
She didn't need tragedy to write strong bold characters.
every character jumped from the page. Even with a miniscule part within, they captivated you and held your interest. I've lost count on how many times I've rolled my eyes or wanted to scream at the page. As I continued to consume the book.
There were moments that left you with second-hand embarrassment and some that made you grin like a fool. I for one, loved the sibling dynamic that was brought into this and lived for every moment of it.
All in all, I would say that The Road to Oblivion is definitely a book to dive into. A book that transverses the world of a Young Adult in a way that showcases the good, the bad and the ugly but in a really compelling way.
Absolutely obsessed with this story and this book (,: Reminded me of a mix of binding 13 series by chloe Walsh, love and other words by Christina Lauren, and After by Anna Todd. If you liked any of those books I think you will loveeeee this! I became so attached to the characters and the plot, that doesn’t happen with a lot of books I read so this was a special one for sure! CAN’T WAIT for the second book 🥹❤️
I rarely read romance novels, but I read this one and had to leave this review. I enjoyed this read. After that ending, I can't wait for the next book! I think for a debut novel, this author did a fantastic job. And although I can't see myself reading a lot more romance books (just not my genre), I will read the rest of this series. I would have fallen for Christian too... how could a girl not?
I would definitely recommend this book, especially if you are a fan of this genre.
This book. THIS BOOK. If I could give it more stars I would.
I fell head over heels in love with these characters so quickly. The Road to Oblivion will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions. This book took me back to being 16/17 years old and finding love for the first time. It had me kicking my feet and giggling like a teenager again. Rayne, our FMC.. I related to her in so many ways that I connected with the book even more than I thought I might have.
Just when you think you’ve felt the emotions of heartbreak, happiness, love, and anger.. The author hits us with a very unexpected and heartbreaking cliffhanger that leaves you begging for answers. I am still processing what I just read..
This has by far, been the BEST indie author book I have read. She pulled on all the heart strings and made me feel emotions I haven’t felt with a book in a very long time. I am so excited to see what the rest of the trilogy has in store for us.
Let me start off by saying 1st, this was one of the easiest books I’ve ever read if not THE easiest. It is also the book that has absolutely wrecked me the most.
Jessica Voll’s writing is flawless. I mean flawless.
This story follows 17 year old innocent Rayne Davis and MMC Christian Hayes. You dive right back into high school remembering your first true love, the tricks and turns, vulnerability of being in high school. It grabs you by your heartstrings and sucks you in.
Page turner. Some spice. Emotional. Heartfelt. Shocking points. Keeps you guessing. Cliffhanger.
Jessica is such an amazing person as well as an author and I am telling you this is a must. Please go show her support. Snatch this book up. 🫶🏻😭
Wowza! This book was a rollercoaster ride of feels! It whisked me back two decades to the drama of high school, with all those heart-fluttering first love vibes. I found myself rooting for the characters, fuming at their struggles, feeling the ache of separation, and shedding a tear for life's curveballs. Rayne and Christian stole my heart, and I'm officially their #1 fan! Plus, the cherry on top? A playlist to jam to while diving into the story - talk about the full emotional package! Kudos to Jessica for weaving in such fantastic music that fits like a glove. Bravo on your debut, Jessica! I'm bursting with pride and eagerly awaiting the sequel!
For her debut novel, Jessica knocked it out of the park! This book was so beautifully written and I honestly couldn’t put it down! The connection between Rayne and Christian was so electric and amazing that I just fell in love with them from the start! This book definitely brought out ALL the emotions…happy, angry, sad, excited, but I enjoyed it so much! Also, the ending was such a surprise that I never expected! I’m so excited for Book 2! I highly recommend this book because it really hit the spot!
Rayne is a good 17 year old girl who has everything going for her. She has a great family, friends and brother. The only thing is she unexpectedly falls in love with her neighbor. After he gives her mixed signals, Rayne finds out his true feelings and why he has been so hot and cold.
After some scary and tragic events occur Rayne knows that Christian will always be there to protect and love her. But in true fashion another tragedy strikes which leaves us on a cliffhanger.
I really enjoyed this book! It was a great coming of age novel and had amazing romance in it. I loved Christian with all my heart!!
I did feel it was a slight repetitive, but other than that, such a great read and I can’t wait for the second one to come out!
I really was intrigued by this book! It pulled me in and kept my interest through out the book. The intense relationship between Rayne and Christian, WOW!! I was glad to see the plot with Jackson to be seen through more than I initially thought it would be. The end of the book left me in tears which I didn't expect after all the sexual tension, romance and young love. This book by this first time author left me wanting more!! I can't wait for her next book to see where life takes Rayne!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I absolutely love the dynamic between the two main characters! The main female character's growth in herself and how the main male character learns to be more confident in trusting others is simply chef's kiss. I loved reading about how they both grow together and helped one another through their struggles. This is a definite must read!
I cannot believe what I just read. This book was so mind blowing. The twists and turns through this whole book had me wanting to keep reading and never put it down. I can not wait for Oblivion…
Fantastic book. Love the parallel POV and the good girl-bad boy storyline but thats where the typical ends. A gripping story of a good girl and bad boy who meet by happenstance and the relationship that develops. Fantastic beginning with the perfect hook that leads you to an unexpected very atypical end. Would recommend to anyone looking for a great book by a new author. Can't wait for book two.
This was a beautiful story about young love with the added excitement of spice, danger and tension. This book will have you falling for the main characters Rayne and Christian and feeling all the feels. You will laugh, cry, cringe and swoon and then cry some more.
First of all WOW. I am truly so taken aback with the fact this is Jessica Voll's DEBUT novel. The way this book was written was magical. The words on the page had such an effortless flow constantly leaving me wanting more. Also know that this book wrecked me and made me literally SOB.
This was such a beautifully written coming of age contemporary romance. The FMC Rayne is such a sweet breath of fresh air. While she has had a rather sheltered upbringing she is still an incredibly strong young woman. I found her to be one of the most likable main characters I've ever gotten to know. Then there is the MMC Christian, he has dealt with huge loss at a young age which rocked him as a person that lead him down a not to great path. I actually found myself relating to him a lot with some of his experiences. Watching his character develop and grow was so special and seeing the way his and Rynes relationship blossomed was beautiful.
I adored every single one of the characters in this book, well minus a select few, if you've read the book you know who the select few I am referring to are....The relationships between all of the characters are so incredibly special and seeing them all come together was probably my most favorite thing about this book. I honestly could talk about this book all day but I won't because you need to read it for yourself. I believe everyone NEEDS to read this book and I will continue to shout it from the rooftops!!
🩷 𝓕𝓪𝓿𝓸𝓻𝓲𝓽𝓮 𝓠𝓾𝓸𝓽𝓮𝓼 🩷 "What's going on in that pretty little head of yours?" "Tell me a secret" "You will always have me" "Everyday with you feels like a dream. You are everything I have ever wanted, and I fear sometimes blinking, thinking, if I do, all of this will disappear, and none of it would be real" "Sometimes people say the most when they aren't saying anything at all" "I once felt lost, but in your eyes, I feel found, and in my darkest night, your eyes will be my guiding light"
This book was fantastic! I recommend it to anyone who enjoys watching characters grow, experience life, and seeing how they after their individual growth. Rayne has a special place in my heart and is so strong, watching her grow and coming into her own was of my favorite things. Her friendship with Laynie, having that friend that encourages you and pushes you to do things you want to experience while having your back, is a friend we all know we would love to have.
And then comes Christian, a mega Book Boyfriend, and his character growth is especially special. I won’t give this away, you will have to read to find out!
The characters and story had me laughing, smiling, and overall amused, definitely at the sibling banter between Rayne and her brother Ryker. The bond the enter family has together, is warm and heartfelt. The Road to Oblivion even tugged my heart strings and got me to cry, but I love it when a book can pull me in like this.
There are some possible triggers, keep that in mind, but nothing is overly detailed about the situation in my opinion. If you haven’t read this book yet, you absolutely need to, and I can’t wait to see how things go in Book 2, I’m so ready for it!
Okay Jessica Voll! Way to dig into the heart and mind of a teen girl and her made-for-her man! I absolutely love this book and am so sad the second one isn’t ready for me to read! I want to know what next!! As a girl that grew up in a troubled childhood this book has everything I wanted, needed and dreamed of… an amazing best friend, an awesome family and a ‘boy’ that sees the whole world in your eyes. I LOVE me some steamy romance novels and this book for sure had moments of that. I’m not going to lie, there were times when it was a little weird I was reading these steamy moments about a 16 year old but I pushed that aside and just enjoyed the book. It was easy to do with Jessica’s relatable writing style.
The relationships: best friends, brother/sister, lover/boyfriend, they all worked and touched my soul making me want to know them more.
My one critique would be some of the editing and grammatical errors made parts of it a little clumsy to read. From the use of the wrong ‘their’ to punctuation errors to just the wrong words in places. I survived and loved the book but the editing needs a little work 🩷
This story was a coming of age love story between Rayne and Christian.
I want to be honest with my reviews. That being said, this book was thickkk. I feel like this book was a bit too long. This book had instant love, which I am not a huge fan of. I have a hard time reading romance novels because I tend to get bored. Most of this book was them being a happy couple. I was quite surprised by how much spice was in this book being as the main character was pretty young. She was still in high school, so it is very coming of age and very much first love. Now, I did really love the characters in the story. I loved Rayne and Christian. I also really loved Ryker, her brother, and her best friend Laney Maye. I’m also very curious about her friend Jamie.
As a first novel, I’m impressed. I will be picking up more books from Jessica Voll. I can’t wait to watch her work get better as she grows as an author. I definitely will be picking up the second book because this book does leave off on a cliffhanger. And I do want to find out what happens.
I rate this book three and a half stars, I think that everyone should pick this book up and give it a try. I definitely think that I just have a hard time with these kinds of books and that is why I didn’t like it more. This is definitely a “it’s not you, it’s me” issue.
Buckle up, because I need a moment to gather myself before diving into this review. Let me just say, this author has quickly become a must-read for me - an instant buy, no questions asked! Their writing is absolutely mesmerizing, leaving me spellbound and craving more with each turn of the page. From the very first sentence to the final climax, I was completely engrossed. The fierce and captivating female lead had me completely enthralled, and I simply can't get enough of the heart-pounding plot twists. I am obsessed with this story, and I refuse to spoil even the tiniest detail because it is masterfully crafted by the talented Jessica. Her writing is pure brilliance, and I am in constant awe of her skill with every word she writes. Jessica has truly woven a tale that I will cherish for a lifetime. I will definitely be looking forward to any other books in the feature. (For the author if you read this Jessica don’t forget this 👑 because you absolutely deserve it you’re a queen) this book made me listen to dark paradise by Lana del Rey (special version) and it’s how I feel while reading this book patiently waiting for the next book…..
Let me start this review by saying that it was one of the easiest 5 star reads of the year for me! Let me also say that I love Jessica, she is one of the sweetest people I have met.
The Road To Oblivion follows a 17-year-old fmc named Rayne Davis and the mmc Christian Hayes. Rayne Davis is a senior in high school who loves fashion and her best friend Laynie. She seems to have her life figured out until she meets her next-door neighbor, Christian Hayes.
This book will take you back down memory lane when you were in high school remembering your first kiss, your first love, and your first encounter with romantic feelings and experiences. This is a beautiful contemporary romance filled with love, conflicts, and devastating heartbreak.
Jessica did a beautiful job capturing the hearts of many readers including myself with her writing.
This is a must read if you are looking for a tearjerker. You will fall in love with Rayne and Christians love story.
"What is going on in that pretty little head of yours?"
I don't usually go for contemporary romance and often find myself preferring to stick to things closer to my age. In truth, I was wary of delving into a teenage coming-of-age romance, but I was very pleasantly surprised.
I loved this book because of so many things, but especially the relationships (even aside from the main characters—I'm a sucker for a side character). I like the little details that are so quotable ("Tell me a secret", "What's going on in that pretty little head of yours?", etc.) and the tiny moments between Christian's mother and uncle (yeah, girl, I noticed those).
Let me just say that I loved this book because it took me back to a place in my life that I didn't think I would revisit again. The nostalgia was so engrossing that I felt like I was right back in high school and feeling all those first love, completely enveloping feelings that drowned me back in the day did the same all over again now.
Just go read the book, if you haven't. You won't regret it.
Now, if you're looking for a contemporary romance, fluffy book, I recommend this. This being Jessica's debut book, she did amazing! This gave very Wattpad-ish vibes, which is great because I grew up with Wattpad. This had me giggling, kicking my feet, and screaming. (All good things). The relationship with Christian and Rayne was so pure. Rayne's parents made me wish I had those types of parents growing up as a child. Laynie is literally the best friend everyone needs. Ryker is just an amazing big brother I wish I had. The vibes were everything. I am so excited for book 2.
Favorite Quotes: "You may be my biggest sin, but I'd gladly walk through the gates of hell for you." (When I tell you I screamed.. I screamed😩)
"I have always felt like a gloomy cloud, a storm brewing within, but to her, I'm bright and warm-I'm her summer. For once in my life, I don't feel so cold, I don't feel the darkness following me like a shadow-with her, I feel the fucking sun." (Swooned)
The Road to Oblivion is a contemporary romance book that pulls you in and leaves you wanting more. From the very beginning Rayne and Christian have an undeniable attraction and the development of both characters is written so well I felt like I was growing with the characters.
The emotions that this book elicits from it's readers is undeniable. Having watched many people video their reactions to the final chapter and every one had tears in their eyes, including me.
This book has a little spice but for where the characters are at it is the perfect amount. I would give it 2.5 chili peppers out of 5.
Overall this has been my most favorite read of 2024 to date. And the ending, all I can say is it leaves you wanting more and I am not okay. I cannot wait for the second book to release so I can snatch it up and continue the adventure that Jessica Voll has so graciously brought us through continue.
The way this book ripped me apart was unreal... I need book 2 ASAP This book had my emotions changing so much and I loved it. First of all, the story line between all the family's made me so happy and ask million and one questions about Laynie and Ryker relationship. Is there one or am I just wishing for it? I need answers!!! Are Mavrick and Sawyer together and if yes are they scared how Christian would react? Next F Jackson I have a feeling he did something to the car and just ruined everything for Christian and Rayne. The last few pages I could not keep the tears back I was like a river and was in complete and utter ruin. WHO IS THE GREYED EYE MAN??? Overall, a great coming of age story will take you back in time and for sure make you love all the characters (minus Jackson) stories and progression. I just am just hopeful that you will not ruin me further with a death of the belove Christian.
This book made me so happy and then ripped my heart all the same. The ending made me sob but I loved it beyond belief. I was ugly crying so much.
Now can we talk about Ryker. That man has my heart and soul. Most people love the main character but I was addicted to Ryker! Jessica knows that I love him and can't wait to hear more about him.
Christian! Wow! I dont even know. I love him so much as well. I feel like I would follow him to the ends of the earth.
There was so many things that had me on the edge of my seat. I laughed, cried, yelled, and felt the most intense butterflies ever.
Jessica's writing pulls you in and keeps you locked in from the start. I can not wait for the second book because of the hold this book has my heart and soul. I talk about it any time I get!
A few words to sum it up: Young love First love Danger Tension Heart Wrenching
I am not much of a Contemporary romance reader but decided to give this book a chance and I am glad I did. This story captured me from the very beginning. The way Raynie and Christian’s love story is written will have you falling in love with them from the begin. I believe the buildup was perfectly spread throughout the story keeping you wondering. The spice was sprinkled in and gets a bit heavier as you go 😉. This story will have you falling in love, laughing, and crying. The ending OMG, I was gripping my face and trying not to cry. Overall if you like any type of romance, I recommend you give this book a chance.
This hit just as hard as A Fabric Of Our Souls. Jessica has a beautiful way of catching emotions within her writing. You feel every emotion possible. She pulls you in and makes you feel like you are the characters that are written. Rayne and Christian have one of the best love stories that I have read in the contemporary romance genre.
The Road To Oblivion is fully encapsulating. This is a story that everyone needs to read and experience. And the way that this ended, it's a cliffhanger that goes down as one of the best cliffhangers that I have ever read.
I absolutely loved it and Jessica is absolutely an amazing human being. Thank you for writing such an amazingly beautiful book.
This book traps you from the beginning and leaves you hungry for more. Great characters and character development, trauma talk so mind your triggers. This book took me back to late high school early college life when I myself was finding who I wanted to be. I connected instantly with Rayne such a well written FMC. Her MMC Christian has this devilish charm just sucks you right in to rooting for his character and fighting for those stolen moments of attention. Some of the quotes from that man…..oooohhhhh man too good. Great side characters, plot and plot advancement, unexpected twists and more. If you haven’t given this book a read you need to prepare with the snacks and tissues and add it to your tbr right now.
