Into Focus
It’s November in New York City. Two VIPs are staying in two different hotels in Manhattan; one is the governor of a nearby state, charming, highly ambitious and determined. The other is a spoilt and entitled Hollywood heir, the only similarity between the two men being they both have unusually heavy security for their stay. But after sudden, violent incidents involving the two VIPs bring their lives and stories to the city’s police’s attention, NYPD cop Sam Archer and the investigation squad he works with can’t find any link between the pair. Not at first, anyway.
Archer’s reputation for having nine lives is about to be tested again, both in the city and elsewhere, as the search for answers reveals secrets from the plains of Utah all the way to the forests of North Carolina and the streets of cities in Connecticut. The bigger the threat to his own life and those around him, the more Archer starts to understand the scale of the evil they’re dealing with, as everything starts to come into focus.
The question is, whether that happens soon enough for him to do anything about it.

Another excellent work by Tom Barber. Sam Archer is hands down one of my favorite literary characters and I always get excited when a new one comes out! The only thing I didn't like about this book is the same thing I don't like about all of Tom's books - now that it's over, I have to wait for the next one!

Sam Archer is just getting ready to get back into the saddle after an injury sidelined him for some time. He returns just as two VIPs are attacked in separate hotels in NY, each having a large amount of security and have most of them die during the attacks. Poison is suspected in several deaths.
Then his investigation team is poisoned and almost succumbs. Without some quick thinking on Sam's part they all would have died of a very hard to discover poison that had been put in their coffee.
As the investigation begins there seems to be no connection to the two attacks. However, it is realized that the attack on his team is because of the two earlier attacks. The two original attacks still seem unrelated and a photographer who seems to have been in the wrong place at the right time also is poisoned though a couple of months prior to all the attacks.
What Sam and his team find on her video cloud is disturbing to say the least. The true culprit is discovered quickly but now he has to be caught before he can kill again.

As much as I really like his books I find them written in a slightly clichéd, old fashioned way that he doesn't assume my intelligence. Is he writing for a more casual reader? There are always a huge number of what I consider typos or poor prose which is irritating.
I enjoyed the interlaced storyline but again, a tad naive or far fetched to my mind as these are supposed to be believable not fantasy. I'll read more but as light fun while waiting for more Peter Hoeg & Jo Nesbo books type stuff.

wow!!!!
Tom Barbara has done it again. Love fantastic suspenseful novel. Taking Sam Archer’s into new levels of danger. I’m not gonna tell you anything about the story line because Into Focus is a must read!!!!
