‘Apple started with a couple of nerds in their parents’ garage’ – fabulous facts to learn!
Author Bill O’Neill has authored many books on Trivia and is an expert in this field! His topics include movies, football, baseball, wars, rock music, simply random trivia facts, US States and now the truthful facts behind famous events in modern history. With a nod to providing interesting reading material while passing the time at home, Bill offers a cascade of facts and stories that challenge credibility while thoroughly entertaining.
Providing an overview of the topics of interest in this book, Bill outlines his content in the Introduction – ‘We take a look at 54 of the most important events since 1500 that have molded our modern world. Each of these events is examined and then their short-term and long-term effects are discussed. We’ll look at some wars…but history isn’t just about wars; this book covers any and all major events that had notable repercussions, fro the discovery of antibiotics to the pivotal elections around the world in 1932, and from the Wall Street Crash of 1929 to the 9-11 Attacks and event he introduction of Elvis Presley to a national audience. If it was an earth-shattering event that happened in the last 500 years, there’s a good chance it’s in this book.’
In Bill’s casual but solid style of writing, he gives the background information of the significance of such events as Martin Luther’s protest against the Catholic Church that created the Protestant church (Reformation) and a non-Latin version of the Bible allowing common man to read for themselves, the Mughal conquest of India in 1556 brought the Muslim faith and divided that country, the heliocentric model of the universe as proposed by Copernicus, Edison’s invention of the incandescent light bulb, the peasant-centric communism formed in China and the Long March that altered government concepts around the world, the invention of the computer in the 1930s followed by the 1976 creation of Apple Computer Company in Steve Jobs’ parent’s garage that has altered the way we work and communicate today, the impact of the Great Recession 2008 – the list goes on!

I’m amazed how much I learned from the book!
I always thought myself to be a pretty intelligent guy with a fairly good understanding of history, but after reading this book I figured out just how much I hadn’t known about the world around me.
Thank you, Bill O’Neill, for presenting in an intelligent and straightforward fashion many of the facts of how things have really happened in our world!

A great trip through history
As a lover of history, I enjoyed remembering the stories from the past and also remembering the stories of the events that occurred during my lifetime. These 54 stories each had their importance in our lives. Hopefully, there will be a follow up book with yet more stories that changed the course of History!
