Rate this book

Dr. Amani Giles is content with her quiet but hectic life even after she calls off her engagement with her college sweetheart. Helping others consumes her days, but she spends lonely nights in her condo nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Canton, GA. Raised by a single mom and her grandmother, everyone knows the Giles family, but Amani knows nothing of her family history. However, when she meets one of her charity’s biggest donors at her gala, the supernatural world collides with her otherwise routine life.

Aleksandr Morozov is the CEO of the Kamenev Corporation, the owner of Tantric, a renowned BDSM club, and the country’s most eligible bachelor. Aleksandr also has a secret—while he is a successful businessman to most, he is also the Vampire King . . . although he stops following the traditions of his kind after his mother’s unsolved murder. He no longer believes in the lore surrounding the Prophecy of Old, but all that changes when he sees Amani and discovers the stories about True Mates are real.

A BWWM Paranormal Romance. For mature audiences.

Fates mates romance

I liked the premise of this, a witch queen and a vampire kind destined to rule together. The attraction between Amani and Alek was strong and I thought they were a good couple. Alek supports her and knows she's a strong woman and Amani loves him so much.

I wish this were longer so we could have seen the couple take their time getting to know each other, date, and develop feelings. They only met a couple times before falling completely in love and it felt rushed. I also think there's a lot of backstop about them and their bloodlines that we didn't learn about.

This book was everything that I enjoy reading concerning fated mates with a prophetic backstory. Alek and Imani's suspenseful but romantic tale was so gripping that I had to read it after reading Dean's ARC of 'The Seer's Destiny'. I'm hoping there are more books to this series!

I don't read much romance and the romance I do read is classified as fantasy with some romance like ACOTAR etc. I would say this one is more romance with a dash of fantasy.

I liked the witty dialogue between characters like Aleksandr and his business associates, the moments with MC Amani's family, the moments between Aleksandr/Amani outside of the bedroom, and the bits of fantasy/displays of fantasy.

I would have liked the romance to be slower burn with more backstory about the witches and vampires, less bedroom scenes and more displays of magic, and more witty dialogue between characters so we can see their attraction develop into a deeper love story.

I still really enjoyed it and will read Book 2 and more by the author Courtney Dean. It's just a personal preference to have romance that's mostly fantasy/plot/magic/storyline with fewer bedroom scenes.

The bookish friends I have who do like more romance/bedroom scenes and less fantasy, I'll be recommending this one for sure.

I had to literally force myself to finish this book. I feel like this did not have to be a “paranormal” genre because 90% was sex/lust. A black female lead being instantly fetishized and obsessed over in an uncomfortable way. If these two main characters were supposed to be ‘True Mates’ I would expect that their connection went BEYOND the constant sex and lust feelings. I felt like I was reading a fetish book!!! How about you go into detail about this so called unique, prophesied bond?

The Vampire King just kept repeating the same sentiments over and over again, (1) he found his mate (2) all would respect their union or die (3) taming the so called monster within him. He was so CRINGE, dude what monster? Can we see it?? Cause throughout the book you were just all y’all no bite (expect during SEX, of course )

This book could have been so much more interesting if we actually learned more about witches and her history. Only the prologue went into SOME kind of detail about witches. And then for the vampire and their coven, so much more could have been said and explored. The author just kept glazing over the actual paranormal things in this book to focus on sex.

Btw how could 99% of of the book be this witch not knowing about her powers to at the last few pages... SUDDENLY she was so in control of all this power?? Smh mixed up priorities in this writing.

I really didn’t like like this book, and it’s a shame because it could have been so amazing if it wasn’t a disguise for race play sex nonsense.

Very Unexpected

This book held me captive. The storyline is exciting, with folklore, ancestry history, and a good ole sexy-as-sin vampire. Amani is a powerful witch from power strong bloodlines, and nothing can stop the fulfillment of a prophecy.
Sis, is kickass.

Cheated out of knowing her true destiny, Dr Amani Giles is clueless of the power she inherited and the reason for the deep yearning she feels for Aleksandr Morozov. Aleksandr is the CEO of his own corporation and also moonlights as the Vampire King. Alek was told that finding his true mate was a myth until he laid eyes on Amani, the woman destined to stand beside him as his queen.

As a lover of all things paranormal, I was drawn to this book. Knowing a Vampire and Witch were true mates sold me.The author wasted no time developing the romance between Amani and Alek and I truly liked them together. They didn’t tolerate deception and took control of their lives without question. This story was very fast paced. It packed heat, betrayal and low suspense.

With that being said, I wanted this book longer.Ten chapters was not enough time to adequately tell a story of a woman who had no idea of the paranormal world, her ancestry or her role in it. My biggest issue was that this book lacked major detail that would have made it a more complete story. We never see her accepting herself as a witch, we don’t see her coming into her power and we don’t see an important scene with her grandmother. These scenes were significant to this story as a whole and should have been fleshed out. If this was a short story, I would have felt comfortable with the size of this book but for the beginning of a trilogy, the author was not detailed enough in her world building and we weren’t privy to a complete backstory.

Overall, I did enjoy reading and I will continue with the trilogy. Moving forward, I hope the author is more focused on details and character development.

So disappointing!

I was sooo excited about reading this book after seeing the cover. However, this one missed the mark by a MILE. I rarely leave reviews but the level of frustration from reading this book required I leave one. This book had so much potential. But between corny inner dialogue and overdone character dialogue, poor character development and plot development it was a slow ride to hell. Like I want my $2.99 back.

Considering the witch ancestry and the vampiric ancestry this book tried to weave into the storyline there was more research and development that needed to go into this. This book does not do the cover justice. Like I am tempted to write the book the way it should have been written. Rewrite the book like you mean it and develop a story that the cover deserves.

Too Shallow

*****Spoilers******

I could see the vision of the author but didn't like how it was carried out. The book needed more, things happened too quickly, and the character reactions were unbelievable. The my king and my queen parts were over the top and felt false. I would've expected the king to punish Ana and Aleksei for their insolence instead of giving them both multiple warnings and chances. Alek and Amani go from strangers to powerful leaders of something, I'm not quite sure but think it's the vampires only? More explanations and substance would give this book the meat it's missing. It's just not deep enough, the speech patterns were odd, and I couldn't fall into the story

I don't like any single character

The characters suck, I can't sympathize with anyone ex: The FL was cheated on by her fiance so she decides to get it on with someone cheating on their fiance and it's all peachy keen and no hesitation what so ever, I know this is a story about true love, magic and vampires but there is nothing to be invested in, no emotional investment at all, it's attraction, lust, sex but I don't see the love, I like the idea but the execution is absolutely less than

SO SO SO GOOD! I don’t normally read “shorter” books because I feel like they’re always rushed but I was looking for a good PNR and kept circling back to this one because I loved the cover. I’m so happy I took the plunge! This gave me everything I needed in the characters and storyline. On to book two!

Didn’t quite hit the mark

I’m really sad that I didn’t love this one because I have become a fan of Courtney Dean. I was excited about this because it had all the makings of something I would enjoy but it just felt like it was lacking somewhere. The characters were all fine but it just felt like everything was rushed and nothing felt developed. I liked the premise and the glimpses I got of Amani and Alek were good, but it just wasn’t enough for me to really get into them. The same goes for the secondary characters as well. What was really everyone’s motivations? I understood the council and Anastasia a little but what was Aleksei getting out of this?? The ending was setting up Eva and Christoff’s story, but I felt no desire to care about them as they really didn’t do much in this book.

Overall not a decent story but it needed to be fleshed out more.

DNF. Wow...what to say that would be a positive critique? The lead is being cheated on and then turns around and sleeps with the male lead that has a fiancée. I don’t care if it was a engagement of convenience. I don’t like cheating, so that was already a strike. Another would be absolutely no character development before sex. I would have been okay with it if it was explained to the reader how this true mate thing effected the parties, but that was not to be. Final, strike the male lead is a grade A...you know the rest. I had high hopes for a para story with the rarity of a dark skinned female lead, but dang was a thoroughly and utterly disappointed.

This was good. I will say for it to be fantasy/paranormal, I don't feel like that was the main focus of the book, but we did get a lot of the romance aspect. I chose to read the book because it was supposed to be paranormal, and I would have liked more of that, but the storyline was still good. There were some characters that just got on my nerves because their opinion on the FMC race was unasked for or needed, and I do feel the main characters were lusting after one another more so than building to love or really connecting through their true mate bond, but I didn't mind that. Sometimes pure lust novels make good quick reads.

Witch meets Vampire

Amani is a well respected doctor with a heart of gold. She is still recovering from a nasty breakup with her fiancé. She attends a charity gala and meets one of her biggest benefactors. He has been stalking her for months, he is incredibly rich and handsome.....and he is the Vampire King and he knows that she is a witch AND his fated queen. This is my second story by Ms. Dean. The stories are totally different with a different vibe and intent. I found this story of the doctor/witch and the vampire/businessman intriguing.

Good!!

First I would like to say this was as good start. The storyline was good but could have been so much better, if it was more developed. The main characters getting to know each other for more than 72 hours would have help greatly. Also the ending could have been more. The book was lacking in the way the story was told. From this readers perspective it felt more like a history book verses a romance novel.

Loved the book

I really like this author. I loved this book and Southie. My only dislikes was the liking to watch other people have sex (that was weird for me. Im not into stuff like that) and the book was too short. I wanted more to their story like a longer timeline and her experience on how she gained control of her powers. It was too short for me bc I was enjoying the read so much. Great job, definitely reading the next book in the series!

Amazing

I found this book as part of a Black History Month challenge. I was excited because paranormal romance is my favorite genre so I had high hopes. I didn't go into this with an expectations so my mind was blown. I didn't expect my two favorite tropes to be so seamlessly combined, power witch woman protagonist and an alpha male vampire man. I am here for this, I loved every moment of this book and will be reading the sequel right away.

Will there be more ?

I greatly enjoyed reading this book. I liked the story. And I liked the chemistry of the two lead characters. But, it feels to me that this is just the beginning, and that a really good series could come from this. For example, as people come from far and wide to work for or protect the Queen and King....Just saying.

Very good!

I really liked this romance between the vampire Alek and the witch Amani! The romance was straight to the point. Alek saw Amani and knew she was his destiny and Amani saw Alek and was drawn to him. A few angst in the form of his fiance and father, but that was quickly resolved! Loved the story , just wished it was longer! Can't wait for Christoph and Eva's story!

A Well Rounded Tale

I enjoyed this book. I was surprised that Amani's mother didn't prepare her for her destiny after she had been forewarned though. This tale was so reminiscent of life, people using knowledge to collect ill gotten gains and power. Thankfully, they paid in the end though. This book was recommended by Unique Words LLC.

Wanted More!!!

This is the first book I read by this author and I really enjoyed it, but I was expecting more. I feel like the story was missing something. I am not sure it was the characters developments or the plot; it just seem like there should be more. Overall it was a decent book and I look forward to reading more by this author.

Amazing book

I enjoyed reading the first book in this series. The prophesy and finding one's true mate was foretold when witches, vampire and first nations people followed the ways of the old. Alex and Amani were destined to be the true king and queen of their people, yet forced conspired to keep them apart.

A good read

I enjoyed reading about a woman with a royal bloodline and destiny that was to be fulfilled by being mates to a vampire king. They faced many trials and a lot of hate. It was interesting how she was special from both sides of her family and his history as well. The book gave just enough of their families history so I wasn’t lost.

Great read!

This was a great book!! Really, truly a fantastic read… I just wish it were longer. I think the book events happen over the course of a day or two, maybe 3. Which it was told really well, I just wish it were longer with more details. So I took 1 star off for that, but it is a good book.

Nice read!!

I'm glad amania and Alex got their happily ever after but I hated the Lost that they had to endure to obtain it Even tho their relationship happened so quickly ,I guess when you find your true mate/love time is unimportant..I can't wait to see what's next in this series .

Loved it!

Now while I'm used to supernatural books of different kinds....this one was by far a little different from others. But with that being said it was a wonderful "different". I loved this book so much. Its definently a must read.
