Delia Vittoria's mother has lost her voice at last. After five years of being her diva mother's understudy, it is time for Delia to assume her place as the lead soprano on stage behind the Academy of Music's faded velvet curtain. And she is all that stands between the Academy and its greatest threat--the nouveaux riche's lavish new Metropolitan Opera House.
Kit Quincy never misses opening night, but when his sister begs him to help get her husband out of an Italian opera star's arms, Kit confronts the wrong Lady Vittoria. When he happens upon the stunning young diva again at Mrs. Astor's dinner the following night, he attempts to make amends and is instead pulled into a plot to win the great opera war. To draw attention to Delia Vittoria as the new soprano star, Kit is convinced to act as both Delia's patron and the enigmatic phantom who once haunted the Academy years ago. But when a second phantom appears, more than Delia's rising career is threatened.

In this third book of American Royalty series we meet characters from past books. Kit Quincy who was a losing contestant from book 1 is the hero of this story. Kit is a wealthy hotel owner and part of the elite New York scene of 1883. Delia Vittoria is an up and coming opera singer slated to take over her mother’s role as Diva of the famed Academy Opera House. Among the patroness wars of the season, the rich matrons have picked this time to launch Delia into prominence and have selected Kit to help her. Both Kit and Delia rely on God to order their steps. “Lord you are all I need. You are all I have ever needed.” This story has more drama, secrets and intrigue than the other two books. But Ms. Hitchcock still gives us colorful characters and a solid faith background to the main actors. Incorporating the Phantom into this tale of the Opera was genius and the reveal of his identity was an eye opener. While the story did deal with scandal, infidelity and machinations of the rich, they were shown in an unfavorable light. I highly recommend this series of American Royalty. Join the fun in the Gilded Age. *I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bethany House on behalf of the author. I was not required to post a favorable review. All opinions are my own.*
Truly delightful, this novel by Grace Hitchcock delivers! History, duplicity, intrigue, love in many forms, and double standards all come together to create an unforgettable tale of a talented young singer searching for identity and a father’s love. His Delightful Lady Delia captured my attention and kept me glued to the pages until the last word. While this book is third in the series, it stands alone well. It did whet my appetite to read the other two!
One thing that stands out to me is the double standard that surrounds the opera houses. The very rich love to go and be seen, be known as patrons, yet the singers themselves are looked upon with disdain by the common person. Their morality is questioned and they are often isolated from society. No wonder Delia is searching for love and belonging.
The other thing that resonates with me is how imperfect and selfish “love” can be. Madre is both in competition with her daughter and supporting her daughter’s professional growth. Madre is protective of Delia, yet still ego-centric. She gives real meaning to the phrase “prima donna.”
I loved the mystery of the Phantom. I was partially correct in guessing the culprit, but also totally off. I never saw that character in that role before he is revealed! How satisfying. Great twist at the end. I am also grateful for the historical notes at the end, that separate fact from fiction. I closed the book with a very satisfied sigh.
I received a copy of the book from Bethany House through Celebrate Lit via NetGalley. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.
Notable Quotables:
“A man can love two women at the same time”…“Not well, nor in the manner they deserve—with respect.”
“Kit was slowly chipping away at her safely hidden emotions that she only trotted out for the stage. When had pretense become reality?”
“This time she would not bow to someone because they thought themselves superior simply because they had money. She was precious in God’s eyes, and even if her father had abandoned her, she still had her character…”
“Just remember, Delia, your worth does not hang on the dithering praises of society. Keep your trust in Jesus and He will never leave you. He will cover you with the shadow of His fatherly wing and protect you. As a believer, you are a child of God and will forever know to whom you belong—not to a mother with scandal dripping from her name, not to society, not to that wayward father of yours, but to God alone.”
I enjoyed this novel so much! I couldn't put it down. I was able to finish it in a day. I give five stars for some excellent writing in this book.
I loved the fact that each character was well-rounded out. The plot was wonderful too. I definitely could relate to most of this book. The glamor and the music, everything! This series has been so enjoyable and exciting. I do hope that Ms. Hitchcock will write another one.
I loved the part where the phantom came in. That made it even more exciting! He was an awesome character. It made me think of the actual opera music.
My favorite, of course, was Mrs. Astor. I had a feeling that she was J.J. Astor's mother. I was correct. They had connections with the Titanic and were a selected family of New York's 400 in high society. What a lot to live up to. Wow!
I received this book from Revell through Interviews & Reviews for my honest opinion.
I was excited to read this book because I am an opera fan, owing largely to watching dozens of free Met streams during Covid.
The novel features Delia, an opera diva whose mother was an opera star as well. The two ladies sing in New York at the Met and the Academy (the Academy was new to me). I enjoyed the brief opera bits, but most of the book was a romance between Delia and Kit. I didn't know this, but this book is the third in a series. Kit had earlier been part of a "Bachelor"-like competition in the first books of the series. Several characters were from the earlier books, which was hard to relate to when I hadn't read them. There are also several allusions to Phantom of the Opera and a phantom (or two) who show up during Delia's performances.
The writing was fine; there was just a lot of conversation going nowhere and the story moved slowly to me.
A lovely, if slightly mysterious and suspenseful, conclusion to the charming American royalty series. I've thoroughly enjoyed this series by Grace Hitchcock. I found them humorous and full of fun. This book is about the opera, and I enjoyed getting to see what it might have been like. Delia is truly a delight. I loved getting to know her. I also enjoyed seeing Kit finally getting his happily ever after. Not only does this story have a sweet romance, there is also a hint of mystery. I loved seeing how it all unfolded. I recommend this book to anyone looking for fun and romance with a dash of mystery thrown in. Having first met Kit Quincy in Grace Hitchcock’s American Royalty series Book One, I was delighted to find that he would be featured in his own story in this book, the series conclusion. His personality, character and devotion shone brightly as he sought to make amends for his disastrous first meeting with opera songstress Delia Vittoria. Kit was inserted into a plan to promote Delia’s career and the Academy of Music, a plan which turned into more than just an act. Delia displayed a lovely disposition as she strove to overcome past hurts and their repercussions. Watching Kit and Delia’s relationship develop made for a wonderful romance and I appreciated how the message of God’s love was woven into the story. What is a book about the opera without drama attached to it, and this book had plenty! It was interesting to read the author’s notes about the history between two New York opera houses. Although this book concludes the American Royalty series and can be read as a standalone, you will probably want to read the first two books for their background and interest. I have enjoyed every book I have read by this author and look forward to each new series she writes.

What a 'delightful' story. I've enjoyed this series so much. So nice that it's confirmed bachelor Kit Quincy's turn for a chance at romance
Lots of drama and intrigue along with a sweet romance in this American Royalty series Book Three by Author Grace Hitchcock. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and finished in less than two days.
Delia is the understudy for her mother the lead opera diva at the Academy of Music in New York.
The society matrons decide on an outlandish plan to win the opera war between the Academy of Music and the new Metropolitan Opera opening in town. Kit and Delia get pulled into the plan with their friend Millie.
Beautiful storytelling by Author Grace Hitchcock. This story seamlessly flowed, gently bringing the reader along to uncover intrigue and/or romance around every corner. I could not put stop turning pages until it was all figured out at the end. Bravo!
Thank you to the author and Bethany House for allowing me to read an early copy. All opinions are my own.
I have enjoyed Grace Hitchcock’s American Royalty series, and His Delightful Lady Delia is a fun spin on a timeless story. I was intrigued by Kit from book one, so it was great to finally get his story. I definitely recommend Hitchcock’s books if you’re in the mood for historical fiction with elements of romance.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
When I find a book by a trusted author, such as Grace Hitchcock, I oftentimes start reading it without a peek at the blurb. That’s the case here, so I really didn’t know what to expect from His Delightful Lady Delia.
To be honest, the cover art initially gave me a “Mommy Dearest” vibe. (If you’ve seen the Faye Dunaway film, you might see it too?) But this story is much finer. It’s uplifting, inspiring, and filled with faith.
Kit and Delia easy to connect with and root for. I loved seeing them together. Kit wooed my heart. He is honorable, loves the opera, and most importantly, he allows God to lead him.
This is such a well-rounded, fast-paced story with mystery, romance, opera, and a phantom... Ahh! I haven’t read the first two books in this three-book American Royalty series yet. But now I must.

I really enjoyed this story. That cover is gorgeous. I am so glad it's exactly like a dress described in the book. The characters were awesome! Kit and Delia make the perfect couple!!
I laughed out loud during this book too. I loved that they had Scriptures in their hearts to help them through rough times. There's action, romance, a great setting, drama and great characters! Highly recommend!
For the past five years, Delia Vittoria has practiced hours upon end to prepare for the day she could take the lead role in an Academy of Music’s opera performance. Delia, as her understudy, has her chance to shine when her mother loses her voice.
In her debut moment, Delia captures the imagination of the opera-loving world. Her beautiful voice and deep emotion bring the character she plays to life. All the pain of her childhood and rejection by her father fuel the pathos of her performance.
But how does a daughter find a place to shine if it means displacing her diva mother?
Kit Quincy loves opera and never misses opening night. But when his sister sends an urgent message to him during the first act, he leaves before the diva’s understudy makes her way onstage. Kit’s sister wants Kit to go to his mistress’s house and bring her husband home.
When he knocks on Lady Vittoria’s door, Kit mistakes Delia for her mother and accuses her of wrecking homes and having loose morals. He vows to do whatever it takes to earn the lady’s forgiveness when he realizes his mistake.
On their own, Delia and Kit may never have crossed paths again. But the scheming patronesses of the Academy of Music devise a plot to revive the Phantom, boost Delia’s career, and save the Academy from its upstart rival, the Metropolitan Opera House.
Delia and Kit reenact scenes from long ago when a phantom wooed Delia’s mother and secured her place as a diva. Each encounter makes Delia trust Kit more. She struggles to remind herself it is all an act.
But is it? When a second phantom swoops onto the scene, Delia’s life seems endangered, and Kit vows to keep her safe.
Why I Loved This Book
Grace Hitchcock brings to life the early history of opera during New York City’s Gilded Age when money and a good family meant everything. Kit Quincy has both. Delia has a divorced mother who harbors secrets and tells half-truths. Can two unlikely heroes fall in love with each?
Readers can enjoy His Delightful Lady Delia as a standalone novel, or they can read the first two books in the American Royalty series. Kit Quincy, a confirmed bachelor who entered the competition for Willow Dupré’s hand in marriage, discovers love hasn’t passed him by. Delia learns to trust God’s plan for her life—even if the plan involves marriage.
Humor, romance, and a touch of melodrama keep the reader engaged through the last page.
From book one I just fell in love with Kit. I think all of us did! He was such a great character I was glad he got his own story and HEA.
Delia has had quite a life starting with her father leaving her at a young age and her mother lording her prima donna title over her. I had nothing but compassion for Delia from the start. There were so many endearing things about her and I really just enjoyed how the author wrote her character.
Then there's Kit! He's not your average swoony hero. He's a bit on the mature side and I was HERE for it! I usually have a hard time with large age gaps with love interested, but for the first time I years I was FINALLY convinced that this age gap could work.
Can we all stand and applaud authors who don't create eye rolling misunderstandings just to extend a story. I deeply appreciate authors who allow their characters to be straight forward and not play silly games. Don't get me wrong, there were a couple of misunderstandings, but ones that made sense, not for the sake of adding more words to the count. To me, that's the sign of an author who is gifted!
She also writes great villains. I couldn't stand Delia's mother or the maestro. They were just awful to Delia. Thank goodness Kit counteracts all of their vile ways. I do want to give a shout out to Millie, who is quite the schemer, and to Ramsey who is a good friend and dependable. He and Millie add that extra touch that gave the story some extra fun!
Of course, I love the faith that's threaded through the story. With Hester in Delia's life since birth, she's able to pour Truth into her. Just don't daydream next to Hester in church. Kit's reminders to Delia as well play a strong role in their relationship, which I was thankful to read!
There was a bit of chaos at the end that had me blinking my eyes trying to keep things straight. I was a bit confused at one part because I wasn't quite sure what was going on, but other than that, the entire story was enjoyable.
I'm sad this series is over as I fell in love with the characters, but I'm glad we had some good conclusions!
*I received this book for review. This is my personal opinion.
His Delightful Lady Delia Grace Hitchcock is the third book in the American Royalty series. It can be a stand alone novel, but the series is worth reading. Kit Quincy is getting older and though he enjoys his hotels he wishes for more. Lady Delia is not the just the understudy at the Opera anymore, but the newest star. Can she overcome her past and families’ tragedies to walk fully in her new role?
Delia and Kit are both the kind of characters that you just can’t help but root for. They are examples of really nice people who you are always hopeful will find another really nice person to love. The story’s setting in New York City during the Gilded age has all the charm associated with it. The author paints a beautiful picture of the time as we learn about hotels, the opera, and the Knickerbocker society . The story has some mystery, suspense, and a great love story. The author naturally weaves in the faith of both main characters providing a satisfying read!
I was looking forward to Kit’s story and was glad he found his happily ever after. This is a delightful read that I recommend!
I was given a copy by the publisher and not required to write a positive review.
MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK I love Grace Hitchcock’s books and this one didn’t disappoint at all. I read the first two books in this series and they are just oh so good! Really just amazing. In His Delightful Lady Delia Vittoria’s mother has lost her voice after five years. Delia has served her mother as understudy in the Academy of Music and now it’s time for her to hit the stage and assume her place as the lead soprano.
What a delightful story. Author Grace Hitchcock gives her readers another story that is difficult to stop reading once you start! I love all of the history in this story, and I am impressed at how much research went into this book and this series. I was intrigued by the Phantom and all of the Mysteries that follow. I could see depth and personality in the characters as well as how nicely they developed throughout the story. And I love how faith and the dependence on God played a part in the lives of the characters. This is a truly wonderful story. If you enjoy a good clean story with lots of history background and romance throughout, you will love this one.
A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.
This is book three in the American Royalty series, but it reads fine as a stand-alone. This was so interesting that I definitely want to read the first two. I loved getting a peek into the workings of the theater setting of New York City in 1883. I found myself immersed in the history of the Italian opera company and felt like I could see the lavish gowns and how the elite set themselves apart from others. This story contains lots of twists and turns that keeps you on your toes. I found it impossible to figure everything out as so much is shrouded in mystery and that made it even more interesting. The characters were brought to life with flaws that made them believable and worming their way into my heart. An entertaining read that is captivating from the beginning. Add to your must read list. I received a complimentary copy from CelebrateLit. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.
If you enjoy The Phantom of the Opera (or spoofs there-on), this is a fun homage. No weird, stalk-ery relationships between our heroine and hero--just a sweet romance between a singer who knows who she is (at a core identity level, at least) and a gentleman who, even as he is falling in love, wants to see her succeed. Kit is one of the rejected suitors from book one in the series, and it's lovely to see him find love at last. Of the three books, this is definitely my favorite--it's lighthearted and fun, with an unusual opera setting and theme on finding one's identity in Christ.
I have been looking forward to Kit's story since meeting him in My Dear Miss Dupre. He really is a likable character, and I have been waiting for his happily ever after. This story is a fun one with a mystery or two along the way. Enjoyed this one!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher and also purchased my own Audiobook copy. I was not required to post a positive review.
I really enjoyed this book! I loved Kit and Delia together!! They were so cute! The story was so entertaining! I loved Kit as the phantom! (I’ve never actually read the original Phantom of the Opera) but his role was so adorable, and yes, delightful!😁
I loved this book by Grace Hitchcock! I have loved all the books in this series but I really loved this one. I loved that it was a retelling of “The Phantom of the Opera”. I thought the story was masterfully told and I loved the characters. I loved how there were so many secrets that were revealed through out the book as we got to know Delia. This book was very well written and I would recommend it to everyone. Loved this story!
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
At first, I was quick to criticize a subplot that seemed overboard--I mean, a "phantom of the opera" haunting the Academy of Music and setting it to fire decades before the book begins? The main protagonists working at the Academy "bringing the phantom back" to garner attention when the Academy suddenly has a rival? It's outlandish! Right?
Oh, so wrong....
Grace Hitchcock did thorough research. The Academy of Music was real. Its new rival was real. Many characters, such as the Astors, were real. And yes--there was even a "phantom of the opera" who set fire to an opera house, in New York, dozens of years before the novel The Phantom of the Opera was published! Sure, the idea of "bringing the phantom back" sounded a little silly--but that was the point. The character who came up with it was mischievous, and the plot was entertaining.
That aside, even if that subplot was completely fictional, the book would still have been amazing. I often found myself not simply rooting for the main character, our delightful lady Delia, but feeling what she felt and thinking what she did. After acting for 10 years, I enjoyed the theatre aspect--some parts were unrealistic, but reading the novel, I felt like I was in the wings and on the stage again. The plot was quick-moving, there was a quite a dose of humor, and the message was solid. Although you may be able to guess the main plot twist, there were so many twists and turns that they were uncountable as they made the book all the more dramatic.
Personally, I liked how, despite side characters having affairs in the past, the book was squeaky clean! Plus, there were references to other books of Grace Hitchcock's, even The Gray Chamber, which is not in this series.
Overall, the novel was thoroughly researched, well-written, and great fun! Ms. Grace Hitchcock--you deserve applause as readers give a standing ovation!
Rounded up from 2.5. I wanted to like this book, but between the blatant use of another person’s previous work and the liberal scripture quotes, it doesn’t work. I think it’s deceitful to publish what is clearly religious fiction without labeling it as such. Some of the scenes between the protagonists were pleasant to read, as was some of the description, but the heavy handed religion was a major turn-off.
4 1/2 stars! Loved this third book in the American Royalty series! The Phantom of the Opera is one of my favorite stories and this delightful retelling puts an enjoyable twist on the classic book. I loved Kit Quincy when he was introduced in My Dear Miss Dupre and was excited that this book focuses on his story. It’s fun, sweet, inspirational, and romantic with a hint of mystery and adventure.
Kit Quincy is one of the elite Knickerbocker 400. In his late 30’s, he voluntarily left a bachelor competition because he felt too old. Though he desires love, his past makes him guard his heart and throw himself into his hotel business. When he meets beautiful opera singer Delia Vittoria under strained circumstances, he makes untrue assumptions which he immediately regrets. As he seeks her out to apologize, he becomes more enchanted with the beautiful young woman.
Hoping to promote her and the Academy of Music’s opera, Kit reluctantly agrees to a scheme by one of Society’s most elite to resurrect the legend of the phantom who once burned down the previous opera house and was obsessed with Delia’s mother. As he plays the phantom, he falls more in love with Delia. But, when another more dangerous phantom appears who isn’t part of the scheme, he must protect her from this new threat as well as secrets from the past.
Delia Vittoria is suddenly thrust into the spotlight when her famous opera singer mother is unable to perform. When a rival new opera house threatens the Academy of Music, she agrees to a scheme to reinvent the phantom who was obsessed with her mother decades before. Her mother’s past is sordid and Delia longs to understand why her father left. When Kit comes into her life, she’s skeptical of him and his motivations, but she can’t help feeling attracted to the handsome man. Will her mother’s past threaten their budding relationship? What happens when Kit isn’t the only phantom haunting the opera house?
I loved this nod to the Phantom of the Opera. I listened to the audiobook version and absolutely loved the narrator. I found myself unable to put it down because the story and narration were so compelling. The narrator does a fantastic job voicing all the characters especially those with various accents.
Delia & Kit are such endearing characters. Kit believes he’s too old for her at first, but Delia awakens in him a sense of adventure and he realizes she’s his perfect match despite the years between them. Delia at first doesn’t want to marry. Her parents’ relationship and the way men have mistaken her character make her leery of suitors. I loved the smoldering attraction between her & Kit that bubbles just below the surface. I also loved the faith both characters express that was expertly woven into the story as a natural part without seeming overbearing. I also liked that while there were humorous moments, they didn’t overpower the story or seem out of character.
Definitely recommend to historical Christian romance readers! While it’s the third book in the series, it can be read as a standalone. I purchased the audiobook version but also received a complimentary ebook copy from the publisher through CelebrateLit. All opinions are completely my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.
I have been a fan of Phantom of the Opera since I was a teenager and saw a movie from the 40s on TCM. I don’t remember much about that movie other than Claude Rains (he was a pretty memorable actor no matter what movie he was in), but my appreciation of the Phantom story began then and grew and grew. I have seen Andrew Lloyd Webber’s play three times on stage, and when Gerard Butler’s version came to theaters in 2004 you better believe I saw the film…many, many times, and then owned the DVD and music soundtrack. You could definitely say I am a Phantom fan. So, when I discovered that the final installment in the American Royalty series by Grace Hitchcock was going to be a Phantom story I was even more excited to get my hands on a copy. I have thoroughly enjoyed each novel in this series, but book 3 is my favorite! I loved every single moment spent with these characters, and the Phantom story is told SO well. It’s definitely a nod to the original storyline, but Hitchcock adds her own unique spin and I really enjoyed it. As far as the plot goes, I was hooked from page one and did not want to put this book down — there might have been a couple of nights I stayed up well past my bedtime reading. I was super engaged the whole read. Hitchcock does a fantastic job of perfectly balancing character action, witty and inspirational dialogue, and honest introspection. Speaking of her characters, they are excellently written. Kit is a fantastic hero. I have loved his character since book one and could not wait to get to his story. The wait was well worth it. He is handsome, he is noble, and he is wise. And he is at that age in life where he knows exactly what matters most and who he wants to spend his time with. I love that he is an “older” hero. He brings wisdom and life experience to his relationships whether those relationships are friendships, family, or more of a courting kind. I also really love how he matches so well to Delia. When she starts to spin out of control, Kit is there to be a peaceful, calming influence. He is her stability in a world that often looks and feels chaotic and overwhelming. Delia is and excellent heroine, and she is 24. She is hardworking, incredibly talented, and super strong in her faith and morals. But she is 24. At the start of this story, she is young and isolated. She needs Kit to come into her life to help her character develop and grow up a little. I love their chemistry. I felt it progresses nicely over the course of the story. But what I really like the most about this couple is that they talk. When problems arise, they are quick to discuss their feelings, their insecurities, etc. And, honestly, it’s because of Kit’s age. He is able to anticipate where Delia’s thoughts are going and he confronts the issues as they come up so there is no festering of ugly feelings or emotions. It’s really quite cool. I love how Kit and Delia relate to one another, how they confide in each other, because it shows a couple actually becoming a couple. It is realistic and I enjoyed every minute of their friends-to-more romance.
His Delightful Lady Delia is an excellent read; one I highly recommend. If you are a fan of the Phantom storyline, or of seriously well-written Historical Romances, or of just plain good storytelling then I highly recommend purchasing a copy of this delightful story today. You will not be disappointed you did!
I received a review copy of this novel in eBook form from the publisher, Bethany House Publishers, via NetGalley in order to review. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
His Delightful Lady Delia had mystery, suspense, and romance all etched into the story that leaves you anticipating what is to come next. Real page turner. Hard to put down.
This novel is perfect for anyone who loves the following tropes: when a character is sworn off to relationships, a fake relationship, not being good enough, rejected by pretty much everyone, soulmates, and last but not least an age gap.
I love this book. The unexpected plot twists. I kept guessing who the second phantom could be, but let me just say…it left me appalled.
Kit, after having a broken engagement and a failed “competitive” courtship, finally has his chance at love. I loved that at first it was a fake relationship with Delia, and then it turned real. One of my favorite quotes from him is as follows,
Quote by Kit: “And that marvel is fifteen years younger than I….However, the argument he had adopted for removing himself from Willow’s competition no longer worked in the least.”
Honestly, Kit was my favorite character. Such a gentleman and quite the defender for Lady Delia. Her is another few quotes:
Quote by Kit: “Is it absurd that after only three days at her side, I know I’d wait a decade if that meant she would love me.”
Quote: The man on the right sending Delia a brazen wink, Kit narrowed his gaze at the young man. “Do you have something in your eye?” “Yes, sir, Mr. Quincy,” he replied, giving such a theatrical twitch, it was obviously a lie.
Delia has constantly been rejected because of who her mother is. She never knew what love was either because all the fellows who called on her mother never really loved her. However, Delia finally saw what real love could look like. Who cares if the man was 15 years her senior. Sorry, 15 years older than her. If he treated her with respect, loved her, and was faithful to her, then she had found the perfect man to marry. And Kit was all those things and more.
I liked Giuseppe and Lorenzo’s part in all this. Giuseppe was trying to prove himself as an opera teacher or rather voice teacher (Not rightly sure what the term is). Lorenzo experienced unrequited love.
Got to say, I also loved that the women were the ones holding the purse strings. It was very different to see that for this time period, but I enjoyed it.
I liked that justice prevailed in the end. Everyone got what was coming to them. I also liked that past hurts were healed…in a way.
I loved that you need to know who you are in Christ. That's our identity. Not who our parents are. Not what society dictates us to be. But on Christ and Christ alone.

His Delightful Lady Delia by Grace Hitchcock is the third book in her series American Royalty. I was highly anticipating the release of this "delightful" book. Although you could certainly read His Delightful Lady Delia as a standalone book, it is so much better in the context of its predecessors.
Kit, the older but very appealing bachelor from Book 1, is fleshed out and given his own story. He is much more exciting and heroic than the snapshot from his early days with Miss Dupre (Book 1 as well). We are introduced to the talented Delia Vittoria as she is about to step into the spotlight to fill in for her voiceless diva mother on the Metropolitan Opera House stage. Her fear and excitement are palpable. In a detour from the first two books, Delia is a character on the outskirts of society and fortune. I love when a book series doesn't follow a formulaic pattern. American Royalty in this third book fulfills that hope as it lays out a completely new storyline while giving us a further glimpse into the lives of characters we've already met and love. Delia is as compelling as her diva opera star mother is off putting. How could the two be so close and yet so totally different? Grace Hitchcock really outdoes herself, masterfully weaving a tale totally unanticipated. Did I mention the Phantom of the Opera makes an appearance or two?
Getting to see backstage, so to speak, into the lives of rich and powerful families such as the Astors of New York was eye opening. In some ways it humanized them, pulled back the curtain, and gave you a peek at them outside the ballrooms and grand events. On the other hand, perish the fool in the crosshairs of the same. Tension and precarious balance were an underlaying and ever present current. Twists and turns sprinkled throughout the pages gripped my attention. It wasn't easy to lay it down and attend to the mundane tasks of life. Needless to say, the conclusion of His Delightful Lady Delia as well as the American Royalty series was satisfying and sigh inducing. I can't wait to read more by Grace Hitchcock.

This is a wonderful look at the opera world during this historical setting. Delia is quite the character and I loved her innocence at times. After her father left her and her mother, they have struggled to survive. Her mother is a very talented opera singer and enjoys the spotlight. I wish I could say good things about Delia’s mother but she has made poor choices which causes people to shun her. Having an affair with a married man does’t sit well with people. But she does adore her daughter and will do anything for her.
After being in her mother’s shadow for so long, Delia gets the chance to be center stage finally. I loved how she was well received by many and hopes of a bright future look promising. Delia is put in an uncomfortable position when there is a power struggle between the Academy of Music and the Metropolitan Opera. A plan is set and I loved how the author includes the Phantom of The Opera in the story. This piqued my interest and I couldn’t wait to see how it would play out.
Kit impressed me with his dashing gentleman ways and makes a smashing hit in this story. We met him in an earlier story in this series where his heart was broken. He is now in control of hotels and has a place with the elite that grants him recognition. When he and Delia team up to save one of the theaters danger comes their way. The author includes secrets, mystery, faith and a few laughs in this charming story.
I loved how the story traces back to Delia’s father and how many secrets were exposed as her father finally comes to see her. There were quite a few surprises in the story which quickly turned the story into a mystery of sorts. The author does a great job in unraveling the past and illustrating how important faith is.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
As the final instalment of the “American Royalty” series, “His Delightful Lady Delia” was at the top of my TBR list, since I very much enjoyed the first two in the series. As a musician myself, I was interested in the storyline being set in an opera house, and all the behind-the-scenes politics therein.
I wanted to like this book as much as the first two, and it has good aspects in it, very good in fact. The unconditional love given to us by Christ is echoed as Kit learns more of Delia’s heritage and her parents’ sordid past. As he learns more and more of her family’s secrets, she is constantly questioning whether Kit will still accept her. In an earthly portrayal of Christ’s love, he always does.
Delia’s family secrets are where we run into the problems. While Delia herself is of moral character and regrets her family’s choices, the storylines of Delia’s parents is absolutely saturated with scandals of all the worst kinds. We all know well that real life can be much like the messes portrayed in this book. But it’s generally not my first choice to pick up a novel dripping with it for the purpose of wholesome reading, specifically when little to no regret is portrayed by the characters in question.
Again, I can’t say the book was all bad. If you read the first two “American Royalty” books, you will likely want to read this one, and there is value to be found in it. But if you are looking for a book that you can enjoy without often cringing at the blatantly horrid actions of various characters, this is not it.

This was a fun take on Phantom of the Opera as it explored the theater setting in the 1800s. For starters I really enjoyed Dalia and her need to make it without a man, that mindset hits pretty close to home for me so I was really rooting for her through the entirety of this novel. I felt bad for Dalia though because of her mother and the reputation she had, but Dalia made it her mission to not let it get the best of her and to rise above it despite the hardships. I also enjoyed how she realized that the only one who can tell her her worth is God. She really found herself once she understood that and it made me root for her even more! The main leading man, Kit Quincy, is a really nice and well rounded man, he has strength and a good mindset that isn't swayed by what other people say which was nice. He doesn't make the best first impression with Dalia but I found it funny with how he attempted to fix it...which was to promote her and the theatre as well as pretend to be a phantom!
There was also mystery and intrigue with the "second" phantom that appeared and figuring out who it was. I had fun reading this story and I think if you enjoyed Phantom of the Opera then you should give this book a chance!
This is the third and last book in a series but you do not have to read those books to understand what is happening in this book!
*This book was given to me by the publisher but all thoughts are my own!
I’ll be honest—His Delightful Lady Delia (American Royalty #3) by Grace Hitchcock isn’t typically the kind of book I grab off the stack. Gilded Age romance with plenty of emotion? Not my usual lane. And yet… I ended up enjoying it more than I expected.
After years as her temperamental mother’s understudy, Delia Vittoria finally steps into the spotlight when her diva mother loses her voice for good. Delia now stands center stage at the Academy of Music, which is locked in a fierce opera war with the flashy new Metropolitan Opera House. To save the Academy—and prove herself—she agrees to a risky scheme.
Enter Kit Quincy, who is trying to atone for a past mistake and finds himself cast as her secret patron… and an enigmatic “phantom” pulling strings behind the curtain. But when a second phantom appears, the twists begin to stack up, and more than Delia’s career hangs in the balance.
There’s melodrama, yes—but there’s also genuine intrigue. The mystery element adds momentum, and the opera rivalry gives the story real stakes beyond the romance. Through it all, Delia’s growing relationship with Kit provides warmth and stability amid the theatrics.
Is it over-the-top at times? Sure. But it’s fun, romantic, and layered with suspense. Not my usual genre—but sometimes it’s fun to visit a ballroom instead of a battlefield.
