Chako Hananoki thought she’d found happiness in a handsome fiancé, but when she realized a marriage to him would mean a total erasure of herself, she broke it off and moved back into her childhood home in the country—only to find a strange man and young woman living there? She finds a way to coexist with them, but when her stalker fiancé follows her home, she declares to him (and accidentally to the whole village as well) that this new man in her life is her husband?! A dramatic fake-marriage, found-family story for the ages, by the illustrator of the Ossan’s Love manga adaptation!

a fantastic first volume!!

i absolutely love this renaissance of shojo manga revolving around older mcs.

while some of the plot just doesn’t make sense (that’s manga plot convenience for you) it was still engaging and full of vibrant characters, and i especially love the focus on the cultivation of green tea leaves!

In order to get away from the life she does not want, Chako went back to her parents' home and tea farm only to find two strangers there: a man who turned out to be their caretaker and a young girl, her niece. 🍵

Connections were made slowly with fake romance and a love triangle?!

The story is okay. The art is so cute, especially Futaba's and their expressions.✨

This was a pleasant surprise - Chako is overtly a feminist and is just done with men talking down to her, and that saves this otherwise pretty basic story from blandness. It's probably more of a 3, but I've been waiting for a manga heroine to say these things for a long time.

After reading volume one, I can definitely say the hype is real for this one! What an engaging first volume!

It started with a whole lot of sirens going off in my head, but thankfully it mellowed out right away (and that Chako got safely away from that crazy ex…)!

I think saying that, I most appreciated the storytelling of this first volume? I was caught off guard by how one moment I could feel totally creeped out, the next laughing, and then crying, and vice versa. It made such a compelling and engaging read, especially when I was right there with Chako expecting happiness in a new life to await her, but it felt like once she went back home, surprise after surprise met her!

I deeply admired how she never gave up, despite that she seems repeatedly put down by men simply because she is a woman. Her determination to give her all and pave her own path really struck me because I feel I would have given up, as sad as that is to say. *hides*

Isshin was an interesting character. I was not a fan of him at first, but I felt he HAD to have some kind of nice side to him because he's practically raising a "daughter" (though not his child). Plus, the village loves him! But I was struggling to see why they did right alongside Chako. LOL!

He did in fact rub on me, though, and absolutely loved all the funny expressions he was making once he found himself "married"! Bahahahaha!! Lots of great moments and lots of laughter too!

However, Futaba stole the show and second a friend that she is their number one shipper! LOL!

Honestly, the family vibes of this volume really spoke to my heart, and I was so happy to read it! I definitely hope this gets picked up physically at some point because it was very much a gem of a story to read!

This seems like a really good manga about the FL escaping to the countryside from her crazy ex fiancée and lives in her parents house with her mangaka bro, her cute niece and grumpy ML. Pretty refreshing story although as usual with stories like this, they tend to have a couple crasher so the character Jin should be written off. Anyways again, looks to be a really good manga. Wish there was more chapters tho than 4 😩

3.5/5 rounding up to 4

Cute fake dating/married manga. I liked both the artwork and the story. Didn't exactly wow me, but I do want to know what happens. Checking out the next couple volumes for sure

Sick and tired of being told the way of things by men, Chako flees the city for her family’s tea farm, ostensibly under the control of her brother. Except it’s actually run by the dour and somewhat piggish Isshin. When Chako’s ex-fiancé makes the scene, yadda yadda fake marriage here we go…

Some days you just need a random shojo and, despite the aforementioned fake marriage rearing its head, I was intrigued enough to give this one a shot and, with a couple of provisions, it isn’t that bad. Heck, it even has one of the most adorable little kids in a series since Sweetness & Lightning.

I loved how the parts of this involving Chako’s pending nuptials are actually framed like an honest-to-god horror movie. There’s a heavy dollop of unreality throughout, so that makes a decent tweak to things that effectively conveys her desperation to not be pigeonholed into being a thing.

Chako’s sick to death of being told how to live and hearing how she should be, filtered through the lens of an ignorant y-chromosome. That’s kind of a nice change from the usual marshmallow heroines, but the story would be far better if it did a lot more with it (minus one great moment where she demolishes a table).

Part of my overall problem with this volume is that it suffers from what I’d term Maid-sama Syndrome, where the female lead is described as competent and capable, yet spends her time getting into trouble and being rescued by the guy. It feels like lip service on the path to servicing lips.

That’s not new, but my personal preference is more for stories of equals or at least the female lead getting a little more to do. There are hints that things might get better - Chako also makes a lot of her own assumptions that don’t help things much - but she doesn’t achieve a ton this volume minus choosing to run away (which, hey, that was a great move for her, honestly).

And the story has a lot of interesting bits, so it’s not a total waste of time or anything. Futaba, Chako’s niece, is a sweetheart with the heart of a schemer, and the green tea farming aspect was actually more interesting than the romance (those frost fans are neat!). There’s then a nice little seed with the community pool that I think might bear fruit down the road.

Plus, it’s a series about adults, which is always welcome. It just goes into a little too much trope that quietly gnaws away at the parts that were new and interesting. Pretty much all the males are jerks, which makes a lot of sense, though that “rival” is such a dick that Chako comes off as atrociously naïve for having anything to do with him.

Isshin is clearly annoyed that she shows up and just expects to be allowed to stay, but given that it’s her family home and he doesn’t know squat about her, his gruff farmer persona is more annoying than anything. Yeah, they need room to grow as characters, but maybe tone it down a notch. He’s got some good points, but his initial portrayal irritated me.

This is a nice try that almost nails it and has lots to recommend it, but also lots of provisos as well. If you just want to see the allegedly strong woman get the guy, it’s absolutely got that covered. If you want her to come across as capable, that’s not super present in this volume.

3 stars - it’s a nice enough start, but it emphasizes the stuff I’m least interested in and downplays its strengths. The sort of manga I might give the two-volume chance, but I just as easily might not.

A supercute manga about grump > sunshine + fake marriage + small town + tea!

Kodansha had another sale going on and I could get this one for 98?/99? cents! It looked adorable and I just cannot resist fake dating/marriage tropes! So this one had to come with me!

This one is about a girl whose ex-fiancé is a total dickwad (and stalker) and how she decides to go back to her home. Only to find that her brother became a writer/recluse and he has a daughter who is being cared for by the one also caring for the home/the tea-company. And this guy? He is a grump! Yep, seeing one of my favourite romance tropes appear so heavily made me smile so much. She is a total sunshine, he is a total grump, and I was just hoping they would get closer! And closer. For now though at times he did deserve her feminist rage. Haha. I do hope that he gets a bit softer (at least towards her, because we can see that he can be soft towards other things). Because for now I also wanted to slap him at times. Dude we are in 202x and you don’t make comments like that about girls. Nope.

I loved the fake dating/marriage part as well, though I felt for Chako, I guess if you shout that loudly that the whole town will hear. Congrats, now everyone knows and everyone wants to celebrate and congratulate you. But then again, given the situation I understood why she did it. Her ex was just a big fat nope. I loved how Isshin swooped in to help her out though. That was so sweet!

I also really liked Chako, she was so sweet and I felt for her that she had to go through that with her marriage/engagement. I loved how she took care of Futaba, really did her best to bond with her little niece and tried to make her happy. Plus, that despite it being quite a heavy job, she tried to help out with the tea.

Futaba (the daughter) was just the cutest thing, sometimes little kids in stories don’t work, but in this one? Futaba was just sweet and I loved seeing her interact with her new aunt.

Jinn, just go. Bye. He is a childhoodfriend of Chako, but I don’t know, he just seemed a bit too friendly, if you get what I mean.

The art was really fun and I love how the mangaka is able to really bring out that grumpy-sunshine trope in the characters!

All in all, I need more of this manga! I need to know if Chako finds something she likes/gets used to the tea business, and I hope that Isshin gets more soft and kind. Plus, I would love it if these two truly started dating and maybe eventually marrying for real! I would recommend this manga!

I enjoyed this! Except for one really, really uncomfortable line from a minor child character (re that genre of manga we don't speak about), I liked this story. Chako breaks an engagement and heads to her childhood home on a tea farm to find that her older brother has a child now, he's a sleep deprived writer and has been having a live in tea farmer look after her. Futaba was adorable! Isshin, the tea farmer, has that quiet, gruff persona, but he's really soft with Futaba.

I can see where this is going and it's not necessarily anything new or revolutionary. However, I like the art, I like the characters and I'll definitely read the next volume.
