As a child, Helen had a vivid imagination fuelled by her love of reading, so she started to create her own stories in a notebook.
Now a bestselling author of contemporary romance, she believes that good characterisation is the key to a successful book and loves infusing her writing with humour and heart.
It's been far too long since I last read a Helen Pollard book, and I had almost forgotten how much I enjoyed them.
And this new setting of Fox Farm is just lovely. It's not an animal farm, or crop farm, but more a farm that has a cafe, and an art gallery that supports many local artists, run by the seemingly indestructible Jean.
Well until she falls ill, and her nephew Alex needs to step in and somehow keep things running no only with his own business, but with Fox Farm too, all the while trying to honor Jean's wishes, while keeping the other nephew Sebastian at bay, who is a nasty piece of work with no redeeming features.
And if Alex isn't busy enough with all of that, there is his fledgling friendship with the artist in residence Daisy, which is anything but simple!
Set to a backdrop of winter, starting with pumpkin carving and leading up to Christmas, you definitely get a feel for the season. It's also a good book to read early into your festive reading season, as it didn't really give me Christmassy vibes, but did give me smiling vibes.
Well apart from when it comes to Sebastian, that was more I want to punch him vibes! But it's a really easy to read, enjoyable story, that I could picture all so clearly. I enjoyed the writing, and loved the resolution, as well as the journey to get there.
A very pleasurable book, that has me longing to visit Fox Farm for myself.
Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
"Because she loves you for who you are. She doesn't look for anyone else within you."
This book takes place from Halloween to Christmas (so it's not all about Christmas!) So it's perfect to read this holiday season. If you're looking for a heartwarming holiday read (or are a fan of Hallmark Christmas movies), I think you'll be a fan of this one. I liked Jean and Daisy, but I didn't immediately love the other characters. However, I really appreciated the wonderful descriptions of the beautiful farm and it made me want to visit Fox Farm ASAP. I also liked how this book revolved around friendship, family and traditions. I really admired Daisy, the main character, for all that she did for Fox Farm and for Jean. I will say this book had more stress (mainly annoying characters lol) than I usually like in my sweet romance books, but I did still enjoy it.
Thank you so much to Bookouture and Netgalley for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review! This book is due for publication September 29, 2021.
I am chalking this rating up as a "me" issue and not that this book wasn't great. I've been off the romance genre for a while now, but I thought maybe a holiday themed one would hit the mark. Alas, it didn't. I struggled to get into this one. I found it dull and the characters flat. I seem to be in the minority in my feelings, so again...chalk it up to mood!
Review for 'Christmas At Fox Farm' by Helen Pollard.
Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Helen Pollard, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous
Publication date 29th September 2021.
This is the first book I have read by this author. It most certainly won't be my last!!!
I was originally drawn to this book by its stunning eye catching cover and intriguing sounding synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that this book is 'Perfect for fans of RaeAnne Thayne, Sarah Morgan and Heidi Swain, this is the book that will make your Christmas!' I am a huge fan of Heidi Swain so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).
This novel consists of 29 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is based in Yorkshire, 🏴 , UK 🇬🇧. I always enjoy when books are set in the UK as I'm from Wales and have sometimes visited areas mentioned in the book. This makes it easier to picture where the scenes are set at times.
This book is written in third person perspective and the main protagonists are Daisy Claybourne and Alex Hirst. The benefits of third person perspective with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.
🎶 It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!! 🎶 What an absolutely gorgeous book to get you in the mood for the festive season. An absolutely gorgeous page turner!!!
This book is beautifully written with stunning vibd descriptions it will leave you shivering in the snow and feeling cosy in Daisy's studio. The cover, synopsis and title suits the book perfectly.
The storyline is filled with festivities from Halloween to Christmas and will give you a warm fuzzy feeling inside. This is the first of several Christmas themed books I am due to read this month and it set me in the mood perfectly. With Halloween just around the corner it was the perfect time to read it. It was filled with love, family, romance and festive cheer. The atmosphere was stunning and I feel like I've jist come home from an absolutely gorgeous 3 month holiday in Yorkshire and I feel devastates having to leave. I absolutely loved being a part of Fox Farm, watching all the drama unfold, feeling the love and romance in the air and listening to the fire crackling, watching the snow floating and smelling the mulled wine. This book will definitely bring out the cheer in any scrooge!!! I felt completely immersed in the storyline and could not put this book down. If you are planning to read this I would definitely recommend clearing your schedules. It is perfect to read curled up on the sofa in front of the fire with a nice hot chocolate or cup of tea. I was completely absorbed in the realistic storyline and although it was filled with love, romance and happiness there was definitely some suspense, tension but also loads of laughter in the air!! This would make an absolutely stunning movie which I would love to see come to the big screen!!!
The characters are strong, realistic and well defined. I became completely invested in Daisy and Alex and loved watching their characters and relationship change and develop throughout. They make such a perfect couple and I am glad the book ended as it did. However I would absolutely love to see more of them at Fox Farm and this would make a beautiful start to a gorgeous new series (hint hint Helen 😉). Daisy is a strong woman who loves her art and has no materialistic desires being happy to live off beans and toast. She is so down to earth and a lovely woman who I really enjoyed getting to meet. Alex is a hunky gardener who is close to his family and owns his own business. Alex is another character who has no materialistic desires and just wants what is best for his Aunt Jean. I adored Jean and thought she was a fun and loving character and someone who loves with all her heart. She made me laugh on several occasions and I am so glad that she finally seen the light when it came to a certain money digger!!! Speaking of money digger I could not abide Sebastian!!! What an absolute snake!!! I know several people like him who couldn't care less about what really matters as long as he gets something in return. Other characters that I enjoyed meeting included Alex's mum Nicky who did her best for her son but lost out herself, Jules who was a close friend to Alex and his manager and the Fix Farm gang namely Angela and the dedicated Jamie who I would also love to meet again. Unfortunately I can't say the same for Lisa who didn't seem to do anything but complain and get everyone down. All in all a great mix of characters who all worked perfectly in the storyline.
Congratulations Helen on absolutely beautiful festive book which I absolutely loved getting lost in!!! I cannot wait to read more of your previous and future books and I would like to welcome you to my favourite romance author club!!! Here's to your next success 🥂
Overall an absolutely stunning unputdownable festive story that will definitely get you in the mood for Christmas!!!
Genres covered in this book include Contemporary Romance, Romance Novel and Holiday Fiction amongst others.
I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as anyone wanting to get lost in a stunning novel filled with festive cheer!!!

Christmas at Fox Farm is set during winter time at Fox Farm in an idyllic village.
Fox Farm is a wonderful setting and the author's fabulous descriptions brought it to life in my head. Alex and Daisy are quite different people but their love of the farm brings them closer in wanting to help Jean as well as make a success of the failing business. There are a couple of unlikable characters but on the whole, I loved the rest of the cast of characters as there is a real sense of family.
The path of romance is certainly not smooth between Alex and Daisy and I enjoyed reading of them getting closer and the chemistry between them was electrifying at times! It certainly had me develop a little crush on Alex and I was envious of Daisy more than a few times!
This is such a wholesome and delightful story that makes for a highly enjoyable read. The cold and wintery time of year meant it was perfect for snuggling up on the sofa with a hot cuppa and my Kindle whilst I was whisked away from the real world and transported into the fictional world of Fox Farm. A story that will leave you felling uplifted and a big smile on your face.
Oi, kuidas see raamat ei edenenud ega edenenud. Vot see ree lohises mul pikalt 😁
I really loved Christmas at Fox Farm for having actual adults as main characters. So often in romance books the conflict comes from donor misunderstandings, and people refusing to just talk about it for two seconds to clear these up.
In this book the suspense comes from actual problems, and I enjoy this so much more than unnecessary drama. It's about growth and finding your place. About responsibilities, loyalties and yet also sticking up for your own dreams and ambitions.
I instantly liked the characters, and was very happy to spend my time with them. The setting and friendships around the romance were also lovely to read and quickly got me into the Christmas spirit!
I really enjoyed this book! Proper British novel, no nonsense, which takes place around Christmas. Could’ve been a bit more Christmassy but I liked it nonetheless! Truly hated the Sebastian character, but he was very well displayed. Liked the other characters as well 😊. And I’m a sucker for a happy ending. Reading this novel now was extra special since I just visited London for the Christmas vibes with my sister. Even though the story didn’t take place in London, it still made me reminisce.
A well-drawn, picturesque setting is always something I enthuse about, and Helen Pollard does it in style with Fox Farm near the village of Winterbridge, Yorkshire, which is wonderfully given life. The farm has a café, as well as an art gallery that supports local artists, run by the extremely capable Jean until she falls ill. Enter Jean' nephew, Alex to help out. Thirty-one-year-old Daisy is the artist in residence for the season, looking forward to her first magical Christmas in the countryside.
This book takes place from Halloween up to Christmas. It is a fantastic, leisurely paced story about family and friendships and holiday spirit. Both Alex and Daisy through their endeavours made me smile and sigh and they kept me entertained throughout. An enchanting, romantic story about life, love, great friendship hope and coping with challenges, Christmas at Fox Farm's narrative is uplifting and festive and I highly recommend it.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley and this review is my unbiased opinion.
This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Thank you to Bookouture for letting me take part in this tour and for my copy of this book via Netgalley. I love reading Christmas books so when I saw this one I just had to read it.
I really loved the setting of this book. Fox Farm is the perfect place to set a festive story. It’s full of atmosphere, cosy rooms and snow topped views. I felt so easily transported there.
Daisy has never felt like she fit anywhere but Fox Farm really has felt like home. I really liked Daisy. She has a sensible head and cares about the important things in life. Doing the things you love and enjoying every day. Daisy is not a materialistic person at all. I loved her whimsy style too.
Alex oh Alex. This hunky gardener truly has a heart of gold. This guy goes above and beyond in this book for his family. He clearly loves Aunt Jean and will do his very best to fulfil her wishes. I did feel rather sorry for him at times. He was being pulled in so many directions I wanted to just tell him to take 5.
This is a great book to put you in the festive mood. There are lots of funny scenes that you can easily relate to. I loved all the Christmas touches. I can’t wait to really dig my teeth into more Christmas books now!
The publisher's blurb is a good place to start with this somewhat peaceful story that takes place from Halloween to Christmas at an artist retreat and local mainstay. The characters are all so well portrayed (especially the poisonous drip of a money mad cousin) and the situations the characters find themselves in ( hospitalized, lack of money issues) are all too believable. No spoilers though. This is the perfect book for a dingy weather weekend in uncertain times. I loved it (even though I usually prefer nonfiction or cozy mysteries)! I requested and received a free ebook copy from Kensington Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
Daisy is the artist-in-residence at Fox Farm when the owner, Jean, falls ill. The farm has its issues and Alex, Jean's nephew, does his best to sort it all out. Enter Sebastian, Alex's cousin, the most obnoxious character I have read in a book in a while! Yikes, he was a bad egg!
The author of this book is clearly a skilled storyteller, because I got completely emotionally involved in this story. I felt the emotional pain of Daisy, Alex and Jean; I could picture Lisa and her attitude, I was cheering on Nicky and I was visualising the Yorkshire Dales (somewhere I have never been). I now want to go to Yorkshire (if COVID ever lets us travel again, that is), pretty badly.
A lovely story, but not short of drama either, just like in real life. Not a light and fluffy tale but a really nice love story, nevertheless. Not just romantic love but familial love and the love of community, as well.
Fox Farm is a charming farm set in the Yorkshire Dales. Jean the owner has since inheriting it developed it as a way-stop for tourist and hikers, with cafe, gallery, and studio. When Jean has a stroke, Daisy, the resident artist and Alex, Jean's nephew must pool their resources to save the farm.
Well this is a Christmas romance and you know that sparks are going to fly and there will be roadblocks and impediments blocking the way of true love. You also know the way the story will end, but it does not stop the enjoyment.
This is not a hot, sultry steamy romance for those who appreciate something a bit more low key in their reading.
I feel like I’ve been trying to read this for weeks and it’s only been a few days. Utterly boring, flat characters, and written in a stilted way. I don’t know how to describe the writing but to say everyone sounded like characters you’d read in books 40 years ago, and none of the conversations had good flow or were in any way compelling. There was a strange formality, old fashioned language and behaviour…and none was believable.
I made it a third of the way, there have been a handful of interactions between the main characters (and short, dull interactions at that), and the ENTIRE book has been about the financial trouble at Fox Farm.
The magic of Christmas in a beautiful snow-white Yorkshire farm
Christmas at Fox Farm is a story about getting old, family love, and kindness bringing people together.
Daisy was an orphaned kid in the foster system and had never experienced a sense of home and belonging.
It all changed when she moved to Fox Farm and fell in love with the place and its community.
All was well until Jean, the farms' owner, suffered a stroke, and her nephew Alex assumed the running of the farm.
Alex's plans for the future of the farm could shatter Daisy's dreams of finally setting down, but, at the same time, she could help but be attracted to his kind soul and handsome looks.
The romance between Daisy and Alex builds slowly and on solid foundations. I love the wintery scenery, the countryside vibes, and how the story is infused with art.
Lovely Christmas read!
Disclosure: I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley for an honest review.
I love this cover! This book takes place from Halloween right up to Christmas. I was expecting more of a Christmasy book. This was more about romance and family and how messy both can be. I really enjoyed it and it kept me turning the pages. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the early copy
I have been a fan of Helen’s work for a little while now. I love the fact that she creates such adorable characters and although the different characters have their own issues, she ensures that ultimately each story is fun and uplifting. I read the synopsis for ‘Christmas At Fox Farm’ and it certainly sounded like an interesting read. So without further ado, I grabbed a cup of tea, grabbed my Kindle and settled down for an afternoon full of reading. Overall I did enjoy reading ‘Christmas at Fox Farm’ but more about that in a bit. I have to be honest and say that it took me a little while to get into ‘Christmas At Fox Farm’. It wasn’t anything to do with the way in which the book is written, because it is extremely well written, but more to do with one of the characters. One of the characters is called Jean, who suffers an illness and was hospitalised for a time. I had an Auntie Jean, who went into hospital with a broken leg and didn’t come out again and so reading the name of ‘Jean’ made me think of her. Anyway once I got used to the fact that it wasn’t my Auntie Jean, that was it and I was away as the saying goes. To say that reading ‘Christmas At Fox Farm’ became addictive seems a huge understatement. I would pick the book up only intending to read a chapter or two but I would become so wrapped up in the story that I would still be sat there reading over an hour later. I wasn’t able to read the book in one go but I did manage to binge read the book over two days, which is still pretty good going for me. I found ‘Christmas At Fox Farm’ to be a fantastically warm hearted and ultimately uplifting story, which kept my attention throughout. ‘Christmas At Fox Farm’ is extremely well written. Helen has one of those writing styles that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. In fact reading one of Helen’s books feels like a chat between friends rather than reading an actual book. I hope that makes sense. For me the story hit the ground running and maintained a fairly gentle pace. Helen describes Fox Farm so vividly that if I closed my eyes I could imagine that I was there with all the different characters. I love the way in which Helen makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story themselves and at the heart of the action. This was one of those books that at times upset me (Jean’s story) but which ultimately left me with a smile on my face. Overall I did enjoy reading ‘Christmas At Fox Farm’ and I would recommend this book to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Helen’s work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 4* out of 5*.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my digital copy in exchange for an honest opinion. While I ended up giving it four stars, I did go back and forth from 3 to 4 pretty much throughout the whole thing. And any issues I might of have taking it down a notch, I would say were probably all me....I am having an issue with books keeping my attention for the whole thing...even my favorite books haven't worked for me lately. But I will say that I loved the characters, I loved the story line and I loved the location. Heck, now I want to go spend Christmas at Fox Farm...
Fox farm is a delightful craft centre that gives local artists the chance to showcase their work. When they realise that the farm is in need of a little help, they draw together to try and save the centre. A lovely book with a great setting, love, friendship and the desire to save the farm. Perfect Christmas read. I loved the characters and felt that Daisy really is going above and beyond to keep everything afloat.
I’d love to pay a visit to Fox Farm, the wonderful cafe, the pottery workshop, the artist’s studio, the gallery of work by local artists and craftspeople – just the kind of place I love to visit on a Sunday afternoon. And it particularly comes to life at Christmas – with the big tree in the courtyard, the sparky lights and bunting, Santa’s cabin to visit, and all the exhibits changing over to ones with a more wintery feel. But all’s not well there at the moment – Jean (Fox Farm is her family home) is in hospital after a stroke, and nephew Alex has had to step in and run things, although he already has more than enough on his plate with running his own nearby garden centre. And it turns out that Fox Farm has been leaking money for some time, propped up by Jean’s savings – if he’s going to guarantee its future, he needs to make some big changes, and make them fairly quickly.
The resident artist is Daisy – it’s the first time in her difficult life that she’s had a place she can call “home”, living rent-free in her studio, making a decent living – and she does all she can to support Alex in his endeavours. Not everyone is quite as supportive Fox Farm will eventually pass to Alex, but his legacy will be shared with cousin Seb, considerably less willing to get his hands dirty and with an agenda all of his own. Improving the fortunes of Fox Farm is never plain sailing – and neither is the growing relationship between Alex and Daisy, two damaged and really lovely people who really should be together but stumble over so many obstacles and frequent misunderstandings.
The setting is just so beautifully drawn it felt entirely real, surrounded by the beautiful Dales countryside that gives Daisy her inspiration and solace. The characters are beautifully drawn – Jean with her particular warmth and fervent wish to create a legacy and perpetuate the dream she’s brought to life and nurtured, Daisy with her troubled past and her uncertain future, Alex desperately torn between his own dreams and his desire to fulfil his aunt’s wishes. But it’s not only those three main characters – there’s a wonderful supporting cast too, with the women who run the cafe, the crime author who takes up residence in the farmhouse, the other employees who are willing to pull together and those who most certainly aren’t. And Seb is a real boo-hiss villain, appearing regularly to put a spoke in the wheels – thoroughly obnoxious and nasty, but never anything but entirely real.
The action takes place between Halloween and Christmas – and as the festive season approaches, there’s an excellent Christmassy vibe about the book, all the sparkle you’d expect (and some lovely – and very funny – set pieces) but all the emotion too. The budding romance was everything I wanted it to be – I took both Alex and Daisy to my heart, could feel the chemistry between them, and desperately wanted them to have their happy ending.
People often ask me what makes a book one I enjoy – and I always find it quite difficult to describe those qualities that separate a good book from a favourite. This book really did have everything I look for, a definite favourite – filled with warmth and gentle humour, often bringing a smile but sometimes tearing at the heart, a strong focus on family and friendship, characters who had me in their corner throughout, just enough tension and uncertainty to keep the pages turning, a really lovely and believable romance, and writing of the highest order. I really loved this book – and I think you just might too.
This is not the usual “feel good” Christmas story. It is full of more conflict and angst than I believe I have ever encountered in a seasonal offering.
Jean is the owner of Fox Farms, a once thriving enterprise consisting of a café, a, pottery studio and a gallery/gift shop in the small village in the Yorkshire Dales (England). When this beloved septuagenarian experiences a severe stroke, the future of Fox Farms is in jeopardy. Alex, her devoted nephew, who has his own business, steps in to temporarily manage the Farm’s affairs and discovers that his aunt has been subsidizing the place out of her savings for the past two years. Daisy is a current artist-in-residence with a fondness for and loyalty to her patron that leads her to assist Alex in his efforts to turn the business around.
The above-referenced conflict becomes evident in multiple relationships. Alex is estranged from his mother, Jean’s sister-in-law. He and Daisy have repeated misunderstandings and have multiple conversations that are mean-spirited as each addresses their lack of trust and even respect. There is a second arrogant nephew that inserts himself into the situation with dubious motives. The staff at Fox Farms, unaware of the financial challenges, are unsettled by all the changes Alex is implementing. Finally, the stress Alex is under trying to manage two enterprises threatens his relationships in his own business and his connection with his aunt.
As Christmas approaches Fox Farms is transformed into a magical place complete with a huge Christmas tree, a grotto complete with Santa and his elf, a new gallery and an expanded café. Rather predictably, most of the troublesome aspects of the storyline are resolved by Christmas day and the future of Fox Farms, while still unpredictable, looks optimistic.
I found the pace of the book too slow for my taste. The character development was uneven and the dynamics between Alex and Daisy made me grit my teeth at times – they were accusatory and blaming in several conversations to the point of being cruel. I never felt their apologies were equal in measure to their attempts to protect themselves in their anger. I appreciated the Jean’s struggle to accept her new limitations as well as Alex’s attempts to support his aunt and still keep his own dream alive. The novel exemplifies the resiliency of the human spirit when faced with the unexpected challenges life often serves up.
My thanks to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for the privilege of reviewing this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
A sparkling, heartfelt and emotional romantic read, get ready to fall in love with Helen Pollard’s magical tale, Christmas at Fox Farm.
Daisy feels so lucky to be able to call Fox Farm home. Daisy at long last feels as if she has found somewhere she belongs at Fox Farm and is looking forward to spending her first Christmas there. Daisy now has a whole community of people to spend the holidays with and she cannot wait to shower them with presents and to show them how much she cares and how grateful she is for welcoming her with open arms. However, it looks like all her plans for the perfect Christmas have hit a major stumbling block when owner Jean falls ill and it’s up to Daisy to organise Fox Fam’s holiday activities. Will Daisy make Jean proud and give everyone at Fox Farm a Christmas to remember? Or will she fall flat on her face?
Daisy needs help and she hopes that Jean’s nephew Alex would be willing to give her a hand – even if he is so curmudgeonly that he makes Scrooge looks like Santa Claus. As the two of them begin to butt heads, it seems there isn’t even a single thing on which they can agree on. While Alex hates Christmas and anything connected to the holidays, Daisy is bursting with holiday cheer. Although they couldn’t be any more different, will Daisy’s infectious joie de vivre and generous spirit manage to thaw the ice around Alex’s heart?
Just when Daisy and Alex begin to get closer, a shocking discovery is made: Fox Farm is on the brink of bankruptcy and if the two of them don’t do something soon, they could lose the farm forever! Daisy and Alex will move heaven and earth to ensure that Jean has a home to come back to. Can they save Fox Farm? Or will this Christmas end up being a season of heartbreak and regret for all of them?
Helen Pollard’s Christmas at Fox Farm is a lovely romantic read that will make you smile as well as shed a tear or two. Christmas at Fox Farm is a magical and enchanting read about love, belonging, loyalty and the joy of community that you are going to adore.
Daisy and Alex are two fantastic characters I loved. The two of them are polar opposites yet they quickly realise they have far more in common than they ever imagined. Their witty banter, sparkly chemistry and touching romance make Christmas at Fox Farm a book that once you start reading, you will simply not be able to put down.
Witty, heart-warming and joyful, Helen Pollard’s Christmas at Fox Farm is a delightful romantic read you are going to thoroughly enjoy.
Since we’re still in the Christmas season, I figured I’d enjoy reading another Christmassy book. Christmas at Fox Farm by Helen Pollard has been in my TBR (to be read) pile for over a as yearand I felt Now would be a good time to read it since I’m behind schedule. Why not, right?
Alex spent many summers with his Aunt Jean and Uncle William at Fox Farm. It’s where he grew to learn to love gardening and developed a close relationship with his aunt and uncle. Now that he’s older, he started his own little gardening shop not far away.
Luckily he’s nearby because he received a call that Aunty Jean had a stroke and now he needs to help watch over Fox Farm and swing by the hospital as well as run his own business. Yikes! Looks like Alex will be stretched more than ever before. And when he takes a peek at the financials at Fox Farm, it raises some alarms. Has Fox Farm been surviving off of Aunty Jean’s savings? How can that be?
And takes things into his own hands while his aunt is unable to run the farm. Except it’s Christmas season and there’s so much to do at both Fox Farm and Riverside, his business. The attractive and sweet Daisy, the resident artist who found Aunty Jean, lives in the studio next to Aunty Jean’s cottage. Alex finds her easy to talk to and with a good head in her shoulders for advice.
All goes well until Alex’s cousin, the incorrigible and full of himself Sebastian, rolls into town demanding to get his way of Fox Farm being sold. But it’s not up to him as Aunty Jean still has her wits about her and still the shots. After all, it is her farm. Sebastian creates all kinds of havoc for Alex and eventually gets to Daisy as well.
Just because his banner is on Aunty Jean’s will, it doesn’t mean he deserves any of it with trying to sell off on her life’s work. Sebastian’s not one of Fox Farms favorite people it seems. But he sure loves to meddle!
Alex does renovations and changes to the property in hopes of increasing revenue and encouraging people to stay to shop and enjoy the atmosphere. Sebastian isn’t pleased. The changes seem to be a great choice that increased the traffic, people are happy and happy people buy stuff!
He even let out the cottage for a few weeks to an author who needed inspiration. This was extra income that didn’t expect much out of Alex. While Sebastian didn’t approve, it certainly helps being the financials closer to order. Alex is always looking out for the best interest of Fox Farm with the help of Daisy.
I give this book 5 out of 5 tiaras. Maybe I’m in a Christmassy mood. I really enjoyed this book and all the nuances that goes with a relationship, family or otherwise. Bring that I live in Hawaii, feeling like I was at Fox Farm during these winter months is a pleasure for me!

Jean Fox owns Fox Farm and is a big piece of her tiny village. Her holiday festivities are legendary, and her passion, talent, and heart are well known. When Jean suffers a sudden stroke, Daisy (this year's live-in artist) and Alex (Jean’s devoted great-nephew) are thrust together to try and keep Fox Farms going. Will the challenge be too great?
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… sigh. This was a very charming story. I enjoyed the characters, the scenery, and the love between dreams and reality.
Jean was such a feisty character. I enjoyed getting to know her. It was quite fantastic the role she played throughout this novel, and I love how every other character adored her. Alex was a sweet character. I love the bond he and Jean have. And that Fox Farms played such a big part in making Alex who he is. Daisy was every part the lovely leading lady. She was so sweet yet sassy, talented, and intelligent, but she also had such a vulnerability about her.
Fox Farm was also a prominent character in this novel, and the descriptions were beautiful. The descriptions are so detailed that the imagery leaps from the pages. Your imagination will have no trouble visualizing the beauty that is contained within the walls of Fox Farm.
I enjoyed the build-up and the way things played out. This wasn’t a fast-paced read, but it also wasn’t a slow burn. It moved along at a realistic pace; the emotions, stress, anxiety, fear were all so realistically written. This was such a sweet story, with so many moments that tug at your heart.
Christmas is coming early this year, and this novel is a brilliant gift! A heartwarming romance, and the power of forgiveness and acceptance, wrapped neatly with a happily ever after.
I chose to read this novel a little early for Christmas, but the story begins at Halloween so it felt just right. Like all of Helen Pollard’s novels we meet two people from different backgrounds who are not seeking romance. Daisy is a talented artist trying to forge a successful career, happy with her own company while Alex has managed to achieve his dream running his own garden centre. But Alex owes so much to his Aunt Jean that when she is rushed to hospital, he devotes a great deal of time making sure that her business, Fox Farm, continues to trade. As an artist in residence Daisy is provided with a tiny bed-sit and a studio to work in. She can sell her pictures, giving Jean a small commission. Sebastian, a mercurial cousin of Alex, tries to persuade him that Daisy is taking advantage of their aunt and he suggests it would be better if Jean sold up so that she can move into a nursing home. How can Daisy convince Alex that Fox Farm is Jean’s life? They seem to rub each other up the wrong way and yet they are also aware of a growing attraction between them. Told in the words of Alex and Daisy alternately we understand their standpoints, but will they ever find a solution to the money problems at Fox Farm which is pushing them apart? The community contains a range of different characters, including an amusing eccentric author and a moaning studio manager as well as some delightful scenes when Alex and Daisy have to dress up as Santa and his elf. Perfect, feel-good winter writing.
Daisy has not really known a home and when she accepts a year at Fox Farm in the artist studio she suddenly finds she has found her place. Fox Farm is a destination place, with an art gallery, pottery studio, gift shop, café as well as the artist studio. The owner Jean has taken Daisy under her wing and when Jean falls ill, Daisy feels drawn to help the farm continue in the run up to one of the more busier periods – Christmas.
However it turns out that Jan has been bolstering the farms finances with her own savings and now stuck in hospital with a long road to recovery in front of her, it seems she needs to turn to her nephew, Alex to keep the farm going. Alex thinks of Fox Farm as his second home and tries to do what he can to save it and move it forward.
There are stumbling blocks at all turns, Alex’s own business starts to become neglected, not everyone at Fox Farm thinks the changes are for the best, Sebastian his cousin thinks he knows what his best for Jean and Fox Farm and the sparks tat fly between Daisy and Alex are distracting to say the least.
As Christmas looms, will Daisy finally find her home? Will Alex be able to concentrate on what he loves the most and will Jean have a farm to come back to?
I was already to jump into my car and find Fox Farm and spend a few hours experiencing what it had to offer as Helen Pollard brings it alive. To see the wonderful art work, to eat delicious cakes and hot chocolate whilst watching the children get excited about Christmas seems like the perfect place to spend some time. What better book to bring out the true Christmas spirit with a lovely romance added in.
Perfect for fans of Katie Fforde and Trisha Ashley and for all fans of Christmas novels.
Wow I loved this book so much it was amazing. I just adored the storyline. I even asked the author will she do a second book I loved this story i wanted to read more . I didn't want this book to end it was so good. I couldn't put this book down its definitely a real page turner. Its so beautiful, heartwarming and full to the brim with Christmas cheer. Just the perfect type of Christmas books that I love to read. I really enjoyed the great sense of community spirit that pour out of this book. There are so many ups and downs in this book you will be kept on the edge of your seat and didn't know whats was going to happen next. The characters you really connected with straight away and both loved them and hated some aswell. There was a great diversity of characters to enjoy each was brilliant in their own little way . I thought the author wrote so well creating a mesmerising sense of atmosphere that just wraps you up like a nice warm blanket you can snuggle up to. This is a perfect holiday read and was just what I needed to put me in the mood for Christmas. I really enjoyed the fact it was so family oriented aswell. With plenty of family feuds. I will definitely be looking out for more books by this author on netgalley. She is definitely one to watch out for. So much praise goes out to the author and publishers for bringing this spectacular heartwarming, edge of your seat holiday romance to life.
This was a great read for me. Despite some heavy issues, like Jean’s illness (which occurs super early on), and some sad background stories to some of the main characters, it manages to be a really heart-warming and uplifting story. I felt like the heaviness was balanced well, and sort of belonged in the story rather than feeling like it had been pushed in – everything that was there felt relevant to the story and the characters.
I really liked the way the relationship developed between Daisy and Alex – I think this sort of thrown together strangers to reluctant friends blooming into a romantic relationship might be my favourite. Because I know people like to know when they’re choosing a romance read, this one is more sweet than spicy, and the scenes fade to black before they get much past PG. The book has a strong cast of supporting characters – we see different amounts of depth from them depending on how close to the main characters they are, which worked for me to give the world a kind of fullness beyond the spotlight of the main story.
The setting was one of the things that drew me to this book, and I felt like it delivered what I was after. Fox Farm sounded like a super cosy property, and it felt super festive even though Christmas wasn’t really central to the plot (I did love the Christmas lunch scene though!).
I enjoyed this one and would recommend to anyone looking for a sweet, up-lifting wintry romance read
Thanks to Bookouture for the advanced copy of this book in return for an honest review.
It’s beginning to look like Christmas, all across Fox Farm.
What I love about reading Christmas books in the summer is it gives me the perfect excuse to listen to carols at the same time and no one can judge me. I spent a whole day ignoring chores to read this as I just couldn’t put it down. It could warm you even on the coldest day of the year.
I’ve read many Christmas books and they all follow the same narrative - but that’s what I love about them; you can always rely on them to perk you up and keep you warm, comforted and entertained.
The main two characters of Alex and Daisy are such human characters with all their flaws, they’re so identifiable. The other secondary characters are all important in their own ways, but the one who stood out for me the most was 70+ year old Jean. She reminded me so much of my dear nan who died 5 years ago. There’s this warmth and love and strength that’s so inspiring.
I don’t need much encouragement to get excited for Christmas 4 months early, but the way Helen described the Christmas Day feast near the end of the book, was one of the best descriptions I’ve read since Dickens’ A Christmas Carol (and for some who collects different editions of A Christmas Carol, that is high praise).
I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture and I am leaving this review voluntarily
Living at Fox Farm, with its cosy café, beautiful pottery studio and charming gift shop, is a dream come true for thirty-one-year-old Daisy. The kindly owner, Jean, and the close-knit village feel like the home and family Daisy has never had. She’s been looking forward to her first magical Christmas in the countryside.
When Jean suddenly falls ill, Daisy is the first to lend a hand. She ropes in Alex – Jean’s handsome but stubborn nephew – to help her. When the pair discover the farm is almost bankrupt, it seems like the annual Christmas celebrations will be cancelled. Alex and Daisy need a plan, and quickly, if they are to pull off Christmas against the odds and save Fox Farm.
This book starts at Halloween and ends at Christmas, so perfect for reading at the beginning of festive season. It is a heart-warming holiday read filled with community spirit. Set in a beautiful location with fantastic descriptions I could clearly picture Fox Farm.
I thought this was an enjoyable, easy read. A delightful read, perfect for anyone that enjoys uplifting and festive romances. Unusually for me this book managed to hold my attention even with the slow pace as it is was just so well-written.
