Matchmaking gone wrong The clock is ticking! Widowed Doctor Rafe Reynolds will soon be left alone when Ellen, his daughter and favourite backgammon opponent, weds on February the 14th. Shortly before the Christmas holidays, Ellen and his meddling sister Mary convince Rafe to consider marrying again. He reluctantly agrees, but insists that love does not matter at his age, and ladies who are loud and demanding need not apply.
Mrs. Lavinia Fitzroy, exuberant widow and lifelong friend of Rafe’s sister is bold, well-connected and entirely uninterested in marriage for herself. She is just the woman to find the stubborn doctor a wife. But finding the perfect woman for Rafe proves as thorny as winter holly!
Book Four in the Cherrybrook year, Time Will Tell may be read alone. With older protagonists, it's a later-in-life romance (kisses only)!
"A Year in Cherrybrook” is a book series of sweet late Regency/early Victorian era romances. Four light-hearted, character-driven love stories take place in spring, summer, fall and winter in or around the fictitious English country village of Cherrybrook.

"I am delighted to add story-crafting to my many romantic life experiences. Life has its ups and downs, and the "ups" for me have included rather ordinary, wonderful things like mothering, wife-ing (should be a verb), reading, traveling, cottage gardening and an art career. I grew up with a book in my hand, often a classic or high fantasy adventure with a strong romantic subplot. As a young adult I took a hiatus from most fiction in favor of lots and lots of art books. But one particularly dreary January day, my husband bought me a first official romance novel and I've been reading and writing romance ever since! "
I'm so delighted to share this book with you! Even though, as the author, one might think all notion of character discovery is gone by the end, that's not so. I find my characters need to age a bit, breathe a little (rather like a nice wine), and during the final edits and read-throughs, I think I enjoy the characters' unfolding personalities as much as anyone.
This is certainly the case with gruff Doctor Rafe Reynolds and the indomitable Mrs. Fitzroy in "Time Will Tell". This story lilts along, with winter cozy, pleasing imagery and light humor. As an older romantic myself, I also found it enjoyable to write about an older couple. They're cut-to-the-quick people, and it's a nice change from young love.
If you enjoy classic, traditional romantic stories, I think you'll find the book a welcome addition to your winter bookshelf. This book is the fourth season cycle and final book (planned) of the A YEAR IN CHERRYBROOK series. Although it's fourth in the collection, it may be read as a stand-alone with very little given away about the first three books. Enjoy!!!
This was my first book by Charlotte Brothers. I found the beginning a little slow and a bit confusing since I had not read the other books in the series, however, once I got into the story, I loved the delightful characters. I laughed out loud several times and the romance was sweet. WONDERFUL!
This is the final book in this series, and I enjoyed it greatly. It’s what is known as a seasoned romance, as it features a couple older than what is seen in most romance stories. Dr. Rafe Reynolds is a widower whose daughter Ellen is about to be married. Ellen worries about her father being alone with no one to remind him to rest and eat. She enlists the help of Rafe’s sister, who then recruits their childhood friend Lavinia to find the perfect wife for him. Lavinia does her best, while fighting the return of her long-suppressed feelings for the doctor.
Rafe, and Lavinia have been in love all their lives, however, as in all the books in this series, interfering parents interfered. Lavinia's parents wanted her to marry into a higher social class, and married her off to a cruel man, whose mother whose cruelty surpassed the cruelty of her son. Rafe was crushed by Lavinia's rejection when he was barely a man, but he settled in with a good and kind woman. When his good, and kind wife passed away, and his daughter grew up and got engaged, his daughter, and his sister conspire for Lavinia to find a wife for Rafe.
I enjoyed Rafe and Lavinia’s story. Before the Christmas holidays, Ellen and his meddling sister Mary, convince Rafe to let them find him a suitable wife. Rafe reluctantly agrees. Lavinia Fitzroy is just the woman to help find the gruff doctor a wife, but finding the perfect match for Rafe proves to be as thorny as winter holly. One minute everything is going as smoothly as clockwork, and the next, it's gone to the dogs! It was an entertaining read. And was a new author for me. Am voluntarily leaving this review.
A daughter and sister matchmakers What delightful book to read I really enjoyed it. Now it deals with an older couple who had been friends with a touch more when they were younger. Both went a different way but now both are widowed. The fun part was seeing how much these two should be together yet they did not see that. It is a quick and fun book to read and the outcome was splendid. I did receive a free copy of this book from Hidden Gems and voluntarily chose to review it.
This is my voluntary review of a copy I received from Hidden Gem Books.
The characters were well developed and the story was realistic and fun. Poor Rafe surrounded by scheming women! Lucky for him most are scheming for his benefit.
Interesting that he's got a list of requirements for a new wife and they don't match what he needs
