I had to create a goodreads profile for this book because it didn’t exist before and that is a crime as far as I’m concerned. I’ve loved Junaida’s art for a while now but I didn’t realize that he has quite an expansive collection of picture books out! I will be collecting all of them.
This book “の” (pronounced “no”) is such a heartwarming book full of whimsy and possibility with absolutely STUNNING art. Why can’t there be a magical castle in the pocket of your favorite coat? Or a bustling undersea kitchen in the painting of a giant? This book makes you feel like there are little magical spaces all around you, if you would only look closer.
We went to an exhibit of Junaida's work this summer in Hiroshima, where we saw many pages of this book in the original. Stunning. We now have several of his books in our library. An exquisite piece of artistry and imagination, which envisions entire worlds inside of small, daily elements, beginning with a little girl's coat pocket.
What I love about this little book is the beautiful creation of a multi-layered story by using the versatile Japanese の particle and such detailed playfully quaint, fanciful illustrations.
La dificultad de pensar en japonés para alguien que posee otra lengua materna hecha libro álbum. Cómo será la experiencia de leer este libro para un nativo japonés?
