Belton, a small town with almost no crime becomes the center of conspiracy as a school teacher suddenly vanishes. No one thinks anything of it, sticking to the story that he went out of town. But his best student, Ian Brown, and a female police detective think otherwise.
As Ian begins unraveling the mystery of Denis Walker’s vanishing, he soon realizes that someone in the small town of Belton really doesn’t want anyone to know what really happened. Follow Ian in this small-town thriller as he pieces together the clues and the facts, in a race against time, to save the life of the beloved teacher. In this mystery, thriller, and suspense series, tag along as Ian and his friends uncover a corruption that lies at the heart of his hometown, and hopefully, save Dennis, before it’s too late.
From the author of the Shadow-Man series, B.P Stevens comes in No Trace, part of the Curious Series, a riveting collection of short stories about Ashley Wayman, a local detective hunting for the organization behind the suspicious disappearance of Dennis Walker. Follow Her in this installment, which can be read in a single sitting.
B. P. Stevens is the rising star 21st century episodic thriller. He entered the arena with his Shadowman series, and now he’s back with The Curious Series. These episodic installments still remind me of all those old weekly serials that ran between the two feature movies during the early 20th century. The purpose of those cliffhangers was to keep the movie patrons coming back week after week, and they did that well. For Stevens, his cliffhangers keep his readers buying books, so his are a success too. There is an enormous difference between those early movie serials and Stevens episodic stories. Many, if not most, of those early theatrical serials were quite hokey, where-as we could have taken Steven’s stories from yesterday’s headlines.
The Curious Series starts off at a somewhat more sedate pace than The Shadowman Series did, but, as I came to the end of The Trace, I feel that the pace is going to pick up quickly.
In No Trace, as in the Shadowman Series, Stevens has opted for a strong female protagonist in Ashly. I like that because I have known such women in real life during my lifetime of government service, and those women never seemed to get the respect that they earned and the credit they deserved. There are other similarities between these two series too, but I’ll let you discover those for yourself. No spoilers in this review. I don’t want to spoil this exciting new series for you.
New detective in small town follows up on missing person claim - 3 stars
When high school science teacher Dennis Walker disappears, one of his better students (Ian) tries to convince local police that something bad had happened. The notion that a high school student could be trusted was scoffed at by everyone at the police station.
Ian persisted and the freshly minted detective (Ashley) visited Denis' house. There were people in Denis' house but Ashley did not stay long enough or pursue due diligence to look around because her boss wanted her to drop the case. The story seemed to proceed in an unlikely, non-procedural fashion.
The story stopped with plenty of mystery remaining. It seemed too much like a short cliffhanger to be followed by a sequence of several follow-one cliffhangers. The author let the reader know that Denis was forcibly abducted and that there was a conspiracy to gain information from Denis about some scientific breakthrough. I would prefer the whole story in a single, full-length novel.
An exciting opening to a new series by this author. The story takes place in a small town where nothing ever seems to happen, until it does. Again we have a curious, intelligent and conscientious young female detective who discovers that things are not always as they seem. She and a young student are the only ones that seem to want to know what happened to the teacher that he has a special bond with. Looks like this is going to be another good one , where the books in the series get gobbled up as soon as they are devilered into the hands of the reader. I received a complimentary copy of this book and this is my honest and unbiased opinion of the tale.
This is one of the most interesting and unique novels that I have read in quite some time. The author has developed a solid and well developed story line. His novel is like a spider spinning her web. You will be positive that you know what the next turn and development will be, but you will be taken by surprise, and you will need to hold on to your seat or you will find yourself flying out of the window with nothing to hand on to. This is the first novel I have read by B.P. Stevens and I must say I was quite impressed. You will want to grab this book as you will find yourself in for quite a thrill. I received this novel from StoryOrigin. This is my true and honest review.
I thank BP Stevens for the ARC. This book is a thrilling opening to what I'm sure will be a very good story. I am very intrigued by the scientific aspects that are alluded to and am left wondering if they will be touched upon further in the next book. Ian is an introvert who doesn't have a lot of friends but is very close to his teacher. Dennis is a teacher who is thought to be strange and keeps to himself, except for his friendship with Ian. Dennis goes missing no one except for Ian seems concerned. Is there possible foul play involved? Was Dennis working on something that could be coveted by others? I can't wait to see where this story goes!
Terrific ending to a great young reader's adventure series. The trio of high school students Ian, Badrah, and Lincoln use their logic and skills to breakdown the clues. With help from Ashley they put together a plan that just might work to save Mr Walker. Mr Chester is the epitome of evil greedy people. Max, oh what can I say about Max? We learn some things that make her the way she is. It doesn't excuse her behavior she is still one bad apple. I hope she gets her come uppance. With a surprise turn around I found myself believing there are good guys still out there. And bad guys too, the real world can really bite. I recommend this book to young readers everywhere.
Dennis Walker was a great teacher of science and working on Genetics. He had a big fan in Ian Brown who was also a nerd. They were going to.meet after school to work on a theory but disaster strikes. Dennis is kidnapped .Ashley Devos a detective from a small precinct investigates what happened to him as Ian had filed a missing persons report at the station. The Chief of Police seemed to be giving wrong information as he had a hand in the crime. A chilling and exciting read. I am on the ARC term and I leave a honest review. I recommend this book to other readers.
Good story so far. Looks to be two more episodes to come. A teacher has vanished. Ian, his student, seems to be the only one concerned. Ian finally gets a young detective, Ashley, to listen to him. Strange things are happening at Mr. Walker's home. Blood is found. Lots of questions. I'm really enjoying these characters. Ian is very smart and wise for his age. Ashley is bored in this small uneventful town. Is she imagining these events for something to do? Bring on book 2. Don't leave me hanging. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
No Trace (Curious Series Book 1), my eighth read from author B.P Stevens. A 71-page read that grabbed me and kept me reading until I finished it in less than an hour. “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to reading more from this author and in particular Heart Of The Crime (Curious Series Book 2), the next book in this series when it's published. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Dennis Walker is a teacher in the small town of Belton. Ian Brown one of this students is very fond of the teacher and the teacher is fond of him. Outside of school they spend time together and Ian learns a lot from Dennis. One day Ian was supposed to meet up with his teacher and the teacher didn't show up, this is not like Dennis. Three days later when Dennis is not in school, Ian goes to the police station to report Dennie missing. No one takes him serious except for Ashley, a new detective in town. She helps Ian, but winds up in trouble for helping him...........
Ians favorite teacher and mentor comes up missing. He is telling anyone who will listen that something happen to him. He would not just leave town especially when he was to meet him the night before and he was a no show. He finally gets a police ladies ear and she is willing to help. She no sooner gets started investigating and finds out that there is definitely something sinister going on. Why would someone kidnap a science teacher? Can't wait to read the next installment.
What a gripping read this is. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Follow Ian, a 17-year old student, and Ashley, a female detective, as they realize the science teacher, Dennis Walker, is missing, though it seems high ranking people are telling them to let it go. Why is Mr. Walker missing? Who would want to kidnap him?
This is a short book, only 46 pages in my e-reader, and can be read in a single night. I would think this is just a sample or a few chapters of a larger book yet it seems the author would prefer them to be released as novellas.
Ian is a high school student with a strong interest in science. His teacher, Dennis Walker, came up with a way to edit the human gene. Suddenly Walker is in danger. He is in a car chase and then gets kidnapped. Ian was supposed to meet with Walker after school, but he never shows. Two days later Ian reports him missing. A detective begins looking into it, but her chief shuts her down almost immediately. Everyone seems to be against the investigation happening. 4 stars
An interesting start to the series, No Trace does keep the mystery going. The small town of Belton is usually quiet. Unfortunately, Dennis Walker, the local science teacher has disappeared. Unfortunately for the powers that be, Ian Brown, one of his students, and Detective Ashley Wayman will insist on looking into this case. This is a good short read with an abrupt finish. If you wish to complete the story, you will need to read the next stories in this series.
This seems to be a great start to an interesting series. The story is filled with mystery and intrigue. I really liked Ian's perseverance in trying to find his missing teacher. Seems to be a good mix of mystery and science fiction. I received a free copy of the book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
A slow build up but quickly into action. As with previous books the author has a lovely flowing storyline which is plausible and realistic. A start to building the main characters but unable to fit this all in to a short story. A great start to a new series and I cannot wait to read the next instalment!
A good start to the series. It lays the foundation of the story. Very short story with a cliff hanger ending. I still think all of the books in the series would have been better combined into one book. Too short and always a cliff hanger ending. Plot was good. Since it's so short, no real character development.
Good short story that is more like a teaser. It's the opening chapter of a book that good be a great read. Small town Chief of Police is lazy and on some else's payroll,. When presented with a disappearance he wants nothing but a cover yp. This is just another grap for readership
A teacher goes missing and a student that was to meet with him reports him missing. The police do not take it seriously. Detective Ashley tells the student, Ian, she will take a look. Things do not appear normal to Ashley, but the chief does not believe there is a case. To be continued in the next novella.
I enjoy this book it is a little different from what I usually read but it has a very good story line and the character are very interesting to learn about. I love that I have the whole series right away so that I can continue to read the whole story at once instead of waiting to get the rest of the series. If you like a good mystery then I would recommend you read this one.
Great book enjoyed reading it. Such a good story and a detective who believed the boy and willing to help him find out what happened to his teacher. Can't wait for the next book to read. It was a free book. Highly recommended. Love this author.
The story left me hanging. After a child reports a crime, the authorities hesitate in responding. Even when one officer seeks to investigate, the crime is not solved. The story is incomplete, providing the reader the opportunity to write one's own ending.
A good start to the series as Ian tries to convince others that things are amiss, and his teacher really is missing. A few strange twists in this one, but it looks like whoever is behind it all didn’t handle it as well as they assumed they had. More mystery ahead.
Interesting book, a young boy claims that his teacher has disappeared. This leads to unexpected result. Good characters, but was left with the need to get the next book
When Ian Brown arrives at the police station, stating that his science teacher Mr. Walker is missing, the only person who will listen is a newly relocated detective. This first story in the Curious Series is definitely curious and well worth reading. Very highly recommended.
Another lovely Canadian Author added to my favorites. Am looking forward to more of the same from the rest of the (dare I say?) series! A must have. 😊 Mrs Still
Just what is going on in this small town and how involved is the Police Chief? Someone sure is going to a lot of trouble to discredit Ashley and make it look like Dennis Walker left town of his own accord.
A suspenseful and intriguing read. Why did the science teacher disappear? I’m looking forward to the next book in the series to find out what happens next.
