The Vrix #1

The Weaver

Rate this book
The threads of their fate are interwoven and cannot be unraveled.

Ahmya is different from Rekosh’s kind in so many ways—small, delicate, strange. Human. She’s out of place among the jungle’s towering trees and countless dangers.

And Rekosh knew she was his from the moment he first saw her.

Her beauty is as undeniable as the strength of her spirit, and behind her timid demeanor dwells fire and passion like he’s never witnessed. She is a tiny, vibrant flower flourishing amidst strangling vines. Her allure has bound him as surely as any silk rope could have.

He needs only to claim her.

Rekosh will be her guide, her warmth in the darkness, her unwavering shield. Nothing will harm her.

Nothing will take his mate.

KU SAYS MAY 11 2025. Let's goooo!

May 11 2024 Twitter Update from Tiffany Roberts: “The Weaver is coming! The release date is TBD. We're in the process of writing it, and we didn't want the stress of the deadline. We'll have a better update when we finish writing the book. But for now, it's up for pre-order!”

July 31 2023 update: No new release date. The pressure of writing this book has been impacting the authors negatively. So they have taken a break from it indefinitely.

Ahh. I can't wait!
I just finished Spider mate series and put a question on the author's board if there ever were going to be more from our cute vrix. I hope for at least 3 more books. One for all of Kethans friends. I'm soooo exited!!

So...was this a great story, with all the cutesy + smut romance that we've all been waiting for?

Yes.

Was it worth a two year delay though?

Er....well, NOPE, but at the same time I will say that the pressure was high, so it's understandable that the authors were affected by the process.
______________

The story picks up where we left off at the end of The Spider's Mate trilogy, with Ivy just having given birth to her and Ketahn's baby. Everyone's excited for them, especially as it opens up new possibilities: that humans and vrix can procreate, thank you very much, and the babies end up quite cute, actually--and NOT eggs, ahem.

Rekosh has just completed his mating gift for Ahmya, and is basically trying to propose throughout the story--except that it seems that every time he gets close, something or someone interrupts them. Finally, he does manage to get her alone, only for both of them to be attacked (of course), and then separated from everyone else via near-death waterfalls.

Alone in the jungle and both injured, they hang tight for now, and then finally their love (and lust) has space to bloom! Add in a climax with some of Zurvashi's followers, and you've got an all-around well-rounded story.
__________

So...my likes? Let's list 'em:

+ Rekosh, who was just so sweet! If anyone saw him as being the least interesting of Ketahn's friends in The Spider's Mate trilogy--i.e. just into gossip, and therefore superficial--then they definitely might change their minds after this, as Rekosh does have some sweet hidden depths.

+ Ahmya as a character, who developed just as I thought she would, but was still pretty sweet! From TSM trilogy, she was definitely the shyest and most hesitant of the group, which you would think means that she's the hardest to approach, right? However, like Ella, she was open to the possibilities of this new world and what it had to offer, especially botanically-speaking, and therefore gave it (and spider sex) a chance.

+ The chemistry between these two, which is off.the.charts!

+ All the sex scenes. I honestly didn't know how the authors were going to top or at least equal the Ivy x Ketahn moments, but Rekosh x Ahmya definitely give them a run for their money! Whew!

+ The happy ending and teasing out what the future romances might look like! I definitely think I'll love Callie x Urkot, but man oh man, are they building up high expectations for what Telok x Lacey might look like! Until now, with both Ketahn and Rekosh showing obvious interest, we've got a males pursuing females story; Telok seems like a total tsundere though, so potentially we might have Lacey needing to pursue him once we finally get to their story!
________________

Ah, sweet, right? Well, now for my dislikes, which admittedly aren't enough to take away from a 5-star rating, but they ARE enough for me to list them, just as a note to myself and others for moving into this book:

- Rekosh and Ahmya's backstories, while a good bonding point for them, are a little too similar. Not to say that coincidences aren't possible, but I find it hard to believe that they're just that similar. I mean, come on: mothers dying when they're young and then both their fathers becoming distant, therefore resulting in them both feeling inadequate? Pfft, a bit much, no?

- The conflict with Zurvashi's followers, while believable enough in the worldbuilding, kind of felt tagged on, and like it wasn't really necessary in Ahmya and Rekosh's story. It felt like a forced conflict, and while on the one hand I'm glad to get the whole "Zurvashi-related-stuff is automatic villainy" out of the way, I don't exactly see it as having been a necessary part of this specific story. Maybe could've saved it for Callie x Urkot's story, seeing as Zurvashi's followers (it seems to me, at least) are more likely to hide underground rather than in the Tangle with which they are unfamiliar? Meh, anyway.

_____________

And then, all in all, I just want to reiterate that this story, while great, was NOT worth waiting 2+ years for. I am sorry about that and I'm really not saying it to be mean, but it is what I honestly think. The main reason for this, if I had to express it in words, is that while good stuff happens and it's sweet and sexy and whatnot, the point is that it's just what you'd expect to happen, and therefore nothing meriting all that extra time has really been added here.

I mean, the mind-blowing part in terms of just the idea of a human x spider-alien romance has already been covered thoroughly in Ivy and Ketahn's story, but I'm sure that I'm not the only one out there who was expecting something more from this, given how long it took to write. Like...all that extra time and uncertainty should've really produced something unexpected and more towards mind-blowing, and this just...wasn't.

Still though, I'm not including this my final rating (for which, let's be honest, I WOULD remove one star), because while us original batch of readers might judge this book based on how long we had to wait for it, a fresh set of readers going into this series for the first time won't have built up those expectations, and will just go into this fresh from TPM trilogy with the expectation of just a lovely sequel.

And it is that, my friends. It is that.

Pre-Read

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH mein gott!

Ze cover iz gorgeous! GORGEOUS.

I repeat, there's no two ways about it: GOR-GEOUS!

I mean, like, I'm already hyped to read this and can't wait to see what it's like, but...

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!

I’ve been looking forward to this book for a very long time, since I loved Ivy and Ketahn’s story. Rekosh was charismatic and very possessive of Ahmya. I liked that he was a weaver first and foremost. Ahmya was sweet and had some issues with self confidence born of never feeling good enough to impress her emotionally detached father. They both found solace in each other’s arms. The first quarter or so of the book was repetitive and seemed to drag. It picked up later on with some intrigue and danger though. Overall, good book.

Spice: 3/5

Triggers: drowning, violence, gore, hunting, animal attack, choking, abduction, attempted human sacrifice, fire, death, grief, estranged parent, death of parent (historical), references to war

I was so excited to read this book as I loved the first 3 of it's kind. However this one has let me down a bit. I didn't feel the same feelings towards these characters and the instalove was not what I was hoping for. I was hoping for more plot as well that would advance the story. it was still quite entertaining up until about halfway and then I just pushed through so I can get it over with. it felt very repetitive in their feelings and experience.

The other books had a really fun mix of plot and build up and learning to understand the difference in cultures. This had no plot and no buildup. Most of this is them thinking to themselves or talking about how much they love each other, which is fine if you’re into that. I was expecting something like the past books where there was an outside world.

(3.5/5) This stories in this world really shine when they are focused on the spider bromance. The banter between the guys is so very endearing. I am going to love seeing them all find their happiness.
The love story is pretty standard. Alien looking aliens with very alien parts, kinda insta lovey. Nothing groundbreaking there. It's really the world and culture that makes the Vrix stand out.
I hope that the little tidbits of lore revealed in this book get a LOT more attention in the next books.

First of all.
I adore books with Ivy and Ketahn.
I recommend them everyone. I re-read them once in a year.

but.

If I read about Ahmya's "pubic hair" which were "visible through the dress" again, I'll throw up...
For real, three times in a short amount of time.
I get it. I'm a woman too.
I just don't wanna imagine her bush every few pages.

Long story short:

- most of the book is them honeymoon-ing in the jungle: he want mate w her as fast as possible, she became a sex monster instantly

- smut (as for me) more dull than in the first ones with Ivy and Ketahn

- I was so invest when discovered that FMC is a virgin,
like I was ready for an "anatomy lessons", for "you're my first and last", for "he's trying be gentle and than loosing control" OR even for "my flower, why am I smell blood?!" and extra caring after,
BUT NO OF COURSE NO! LET'S RIDE THIS RED ROCKET WITHOUT ANY REST AND HEALING!!!!

- they was talking about their fathers. a lot.
like he's braiding her hair and from nowhere WHEN DID YOU LAST SAW YOUR FATHER WHICH YOU HAVE SORE MEMORIES ABOUT BUT YOU DON'T NEED TO ANSWER BUT LET'S TALK ABOUT OUR DADDY ISSUES BETWEEN FUCKS!

Ivy and Ketahn was horny, but they was... cozy. warm. caring.
These two just a horny teenagers.

No courting. No flowers to her. No shy touches.

also, in a book she have smaller tits than on a cover...
he covered all of them w one palm...
but it's me digging too deep.

𓂃˖˳·˖ ִֶָ ⋆🌷͙: ''Tu suavidad no es debilidad. Es una fuerza diferente, una fuerza interior. Tu fuerza. Y es necesaria aquí. te necesitamos. -Rekosh a Ahmya.

𝐋𝐚 𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐚 𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐦𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐣𝐨́ 𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐚
NO GENTE, AMÉ CON TODO MI CORAZÓN QUE AHMYA HAYA TENIDO ESTA INICIATIVA DE HACER LAS COSAS COMO SE DEBEN. TE AMO REINOTA.

˚.🎀༘⋆: Sí, quiero. Quiero ser tu esposa. Quiero ser tu compañera. Y quiero que seas mío. - Ahmya a Rekosh.

I'll preface this by saying that I love this world, and I still like both of the characters in this book. This was by no means a bad novel.

However, it did feel formulaic. I was hoping to learn more history and have something added to this already lush world that Tiffany Roberts introduced in the original trilogy. This novel had a couple of minor pieces of information, but other than that, it didn't add anything new or interesting to the setting or lore.

I was just holding out for a little bit more in terms of plot and world building.

🌶️🌶️🌶️ 3 Spice

I’ve read all three books in The Spider’s Mate series by Tiffany Roberts earlier this year, and I’m so, so, so glad I picked up the first book of this spin-off series! Seeing all the characters I loved again while diving into a brand-new story made me more than excited.

There’s something truly lovely about this book it’s hard to put into words, but it captured that same found-family feeling I adored in The Spider’s Mate series and carried it forward beautifully here. This book really shows that blood isn’t the only thing that makes a family it’s the people we carry in our hearts and choose to protect, whether that’s a friend, a tribe member, or a lover. The authors detailed that theme so well it warmed my heart and had me smiling through every page.

One of the biggest strengths in all these books is their heart and emotion. You don’t just read about the characters you understand them. Tiffany Roberts turns what could be 2D, unrelatable figures into 3D characters who feel real and full of depth, even when they’re not human.

The Vrix are so different from humans, and when I first started the original series, I was worried I’d find them off-putting or hard to connect with. But now? They have a massive place in my heart. While The Weaver might be the first book of this new series, I honestly think it holds up beautifully to The Spider’s Mate. The flow of the story is so easy and natural it felt like coming home after being away for a while. You’ve missed everyone, yet it feels like no time has passed at all. It’s warm and cozy, but still has moments that make your heart race.

It’s emotional and sweet, filled with those scenes that make you smile and hug yourself as you read. This book doesn’t just give you a super spicy monster romance it also gives you an adventurous, heart-stopping story full of danger, love, and emotion. It makes you smile one moment and clutch your heart in fear or worry the next.

While the spice is definitely hot and detailed, it never overwhelms the story or emotional weight of the book. I loved the spice, but it wasn’t what made me love the book it was how real, beautiful, and heartfelt everything felt. For me, that balance was perfection.

What I Liked:
The characters both the leads and the secondary cast.
The emotion and found-family vibes.
The story, adventure, and pacing.
The quiet, wonder-filled moments.
The tension and fear during key scenes.
Learning more about each character’s past and growth.

What Didn’t Work for Me:
A few moments where I skimmed or lost focus not sure if it was the info or the slower pacing, but it only happened a few times.

Would I Recommend This Book?
Absolutely! I’d recommend it to anyone and everyone loudly!

Would I Reread?
Yes, yes, and more yes!

How I’d Sum It Up:
Unique, emotional, and full of warmth and adventure this book was truly wonderful.

*squees of excitement for emphasis*
The long awaited spinoff book was finally released, and it was so good!
There’s way more push and pull on Rekosh and Ahmya’s relationship than even Ketahn and Ivy had with the big bad breathing down their neck the whole time. It felt like Ivy and Ketahn were a solid unit almost from the start. All of their strife seemed to just thrust them together even tighter.
While Rekosh and Ahmya started out so uncertain, and everything seemed to want to rip them apart even as they strained toward each other.
It was so sweet, and sexy, and cute, and filled with problem after problem putting their strength to the test.
I really liked it. And of course I’m looking forward to Urkot and Callie. Although Telok really intrigued me during this book, with his grumpy demeanor. I just love a grump. lol

I really loved the first half of this book. However, it was very hard to love all of it when I lost all respect for Rekosh during their first mating. Going in like a sledge hammer, when she is a virgin, actually really hurting her, not checking in with her at all, and when she says she needs a moment, he literally answers "yeah fine, but not too long, though". Nop. That was the end of my love for Rekosh.

It’s not as good as the original trilogy. I feel bad for saying because I know the authors struggled with this story and then were bullied on the internet by “fans” but that doesn’t stop it from being true. Though this story focuses on side characters I feel like I spent most of my time being reminded what happened in the previous trilogy as way to endear me to these characters. Instead of liking them organically from being exposed to their pov

I feel like I’ve waited sooo long for this book! The anticipation was high for a couple years, then the authors needed to take a break from writing it, and I kind of forgot about it. Jumping back into the world of the Vrix was fantastic and I loved that the majority of the story took place in The Tangle.

It was too bad we didn’t get more on the history of this world and it’s Spider like people. A few tidbits here and there, that seemed like maybe they were setting up for the next story in the spin off series. Frankly that’s what a lot of The Weaver was: throwbacks to events from The Spider’s Mate series and hints for potential future plots. The rest of it was basically just hanging out and banging in the jungle. I guess I wanted a bit more than insta love and to see all the characters progressing or doing something a bit more interesting.

While it is missing the magic of the initial books, I was still glad to read this “spin” off. Ahmya seemed to cry all the time which was crazy annoying, but Rekosh was written so well!

🔥🔥

A letdown in all honesty, and I hate to say that, because the anticipation for reading this book was high.

I first started this book without rereading the trilogy, but I quickly realized I missed all the details and wanted to reread the first three books to remember. Rereading the whole series was just as amazing the first time around, so I was really excited to start this book.

Man, was I disappointed.

In the series I loved how sassy Rekosh was. He still kept some of it in this book, but very little. The FMC, Ahmya, was incredibly boring to read about. Their whole relationship really was boring to read in general. There was no tension, and they both were into each other from the first time they locked eyes in the last series. I definitely knew Rekosh was her mate from the last series on how protective he was of her, but I didn't expect him to lose his personality in this book.

There was no major plot in this book. It almost repeated the same concepts as the first book. The ending of the book also felt like it came out of nowhere just as quickly as it was resolved.

The plus of him being a more talkative Vrix of the group is that he definitely had the dirty talk down. I will give Rekosh the win for that unexpected trait.

Overal disappointed. I want to read about Lacey and Telok next, but we are going to get Callie and Urkot instead. I hope I am not as disappointed, because I still plan to read the whole series.

I wanted to like this book so much more than I did. Parts felt like a chore to read and it was lacking the intrigue that the Spiders Mate trilogy had. I didn’t feel the chemistry between Rekosh and Ahmya. I wasn’t invested in the storyline, and I couldn’t make myself care enough to be.

Book Name/Series: The Weaver (The Vrix #1)
Author: Tiffany Roberts
Standalone?: Can be read as a standalone, but includes characters from other books.

4 Stars

My Opinion: This was an incredibly sweet story between two people who just wanted to love and be loved. The writing was great, I really liked both the main characters, and I thought they fit really well together. There was no relationship angst, but I don’t think it actually needed any because there were other things that added drama and suspense to the story.

I had been a while since I read The Spider’s Mate which is where the main characters in this book first meet, but not quite remembering everything that happened in it didn’t impede my understanding of this book at all. However, it did make this one feel a little insta-lovey because I don’t remember how they met or what interactions they had if that makes sense.

Hero: 4/5. Rekosh was completely gone for Ahmya, and I loved it. He was so sweet with her, but he was also super possessive and protective. It was also absolutely adorable how much care he put into the clothes he made for her. I didn’t love that he lost control and was a little bit rough the first time they had sex though because Ahmya was a virgin and I just thought it was a weird choice by the authors.
Heroine: 5/5. Ahmyawas had been through a lot to get to where she was. She was just such a sweet and gentle soul who felt things quite deeply, but she was also strong. I love these types of heroines who have a vulnerability to them but still endure and Ahmya was no exception.

POV: 3rd person POV (Rekosh and Ahmya).

Push/Pull:

Sadness: 1/5.

Explicit Sex and Spice Level: Yes. 3/5.

OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) Drama: No.

Separation:

Cheating: No.

Closure/Ending: HEA.
