I'm not the biggest Tarantino fan. I enjoyed the films of his I have seen (which is not all of them), I'm just not entirely sold on his geniusness. His geniosity.

And here's a graphic novel that is more like an illustrated book - meaning, lots of text. I'm normally not a fan of a lot of text in comics and GNs, but blow me down, I really enjoyed reading this book. It's basically Tarantino talking about himself and his movies, sometimes interspersed with actors from his films saying something. The art is quite varied, which keeps the whole thing moving, I was impressed. Likenesses are pretty good (mostly).

This book must be heaven for real Tarantino fans, and very enjoyable to starters like myself.

A must read for Tarantino-heads, Améziane covers all bases and clearly did his research as I learned a lot about QT's early years, association with the Weinstein brothers, and creative process throughout. Needless to say it would probably be a massive slog if you haven't at least seen 75% of his movies, including the collaborations with Robert Rodriguez.

A ballsy biography of Quentin Tarantino that presumes to have the filmmaker narrate the book in the first person. So we have Tarantino walking us through his life and filmography, praising his own genius and casually dismissing any criticism of his techniques or attitude. And just as Tarantino likes to play around with film structure and tropes, the Amazing Ameziane plays around with his page layouts mixing up original sequential panels and photo-referenced portraits, word balloons and captions, character studies and behind-the-scenes antics.

It's crammed with insights, trivia, and cameos sure to please long-time fans like me.

It's a pretty long and dense graphic novel, but I was always eager to pick it up every chance I had.

Ai Tarantino! É o meu realizador, os filmes dele têm tudo, os diálogos, banda sonora e o impacto visual que ele cria são sem dúvida incomparáveis. Para quem não acredita só digo isto. Reservoir Dogs, Stuck in the Middle With You. Esta BD é a compreensão deste mundo que o QT cria, conhecemos algum do processo criativo e é sempre incrível perceber como é que ele pensa. Visualmente, gostei muito das ilustrações.

Gelezen: de biografische graphic novel Quentin over Tarantino, een spetterende ode aan het werk van de filmregisseur. 240 pagina's getekend in een werveling van stijlen, die bulken van de details, weetjes en verwijzingen naar de films van Tarantino. Over de videotheek in Amsterdam waarboven hij het script voor Pulp Fiction afwerkte, over de voeten van Salma Hayek en zijn ruzie met Uma Thurman, over de verzonnen actieheld Rick Dalton, waarvoor Tarantino maar liefst vijf volledige afleveringen schreef van het fictieve tv-programma Bounty Law.

Amazing Améziane heet in werkelijkheid Améziane Hammouche. Hij schreef maar liefst 21 boeken op 20 jaar tijd. Hij maakte een graphic novel van 1984 van George Orwell, schreef boeken over Angela Davis, Martin Scorsese en Mohammed Ali. Dit is deel 2 van zijn Ciné-Trilogy. Améziane zei in De Morgen dat Tarantino één van de tien mensen op de planeet is die alle inside jokes in het boek zou snappen.

Quentin over Tarantino bevat iets teveel dikdoenerij, hoofdletters en schrijffouten, exact wat Tarantino zelf geweldig zou vinden, dus daar kijk je met plezier doorheen. Deze graphic novel is snoepen.

Okuması, idrak etmesi epeyce zor bir iş. Bu tarz işlere tam olarak çizgi roman demeye dilim varmıyor açıkçası. Nazarımda, en iyi yapılmış versiyonları bile çizgi romanının imajını düşüren bir de ürün oluyor.

Kitap, Tarantino ile bir ropörtaj yapar gibi ilerliyor. Tüm hikaye onun ağzından dinliyoruz. Sanki bir belgeselin resimlenmiş hali. Tarantino'yu gerçekten seven biri olarak benim bile gerçekten ilgimi çekmeyen çok çok fazla detayla dolu. (Bu iyi bir şey) Konular asla yüzeysel geçilmemiş. Bu yüzeysel geçmeme durumu, kitabın ilgi çekiciliğini koruması yönünden pek işe yaramıyor. Şahsi olarak ortalama 120. sayfadan itibaren kitaba dair herhangi bir merakım kalmamıştı.

Ve en kötü olan ve açıkçası okumayı benim açımdan zorlaştıran en büyük unsur ise yine, yeniden Karakarganın kötü çeviri laneti. Tarantino gibi bir adamı anlatan kitabı çevirirken neden bu kadar otosansüre ihtiyaç duymuş çevirmen açıkçası anlamak zor. Cümleler kötü dublaj yapılmış bir Amerikan filminden fırlamış gibi. Gerçekten bir porno kategorisi olarak sağır sultanın bile bildiği "deep throat" tabirini "derin boğaz" olarak çevirmeye gerek var mıydı emin değilim. Ya da *Harry "yediğimin" Keitel'ı* gibi garip bir çeviri olmalı mıydı bilemiyorum.

Ortamlarda satılacak bilgi sevenlerin ilgisini çekebilir fakat benim açımdan meraklısına (yani bana) bile hitap etmekte zorlanan bir netice.

3.5. This was kind of cool. I think it was an imagined interview with Quentin Tarantino plotted out in graphic format, but sometimes I thought it was real. And it was about as real as it gets, as it’s well-researched and packed with lots of facts and movie trivia about QT’s filmography. I tended to like reading about the blockbuster flicks I had seen rather than a lot of his B-movie ouerve, but it’s all there for ya, fans!

Ce roman graphique n’est rien de moins qu’un pur chef d’œuvre. Les illustrations sont magnifiques et le récit est tellement palpitant qu’il est impossible de lâcher le livre avant de l’avoir terminé! J’ai énormément appris sur QT et sur son œuvre en une soirée, et il y a vraiment encore plus de couches que je le croyais!

Full disclosure, I'm a massive Quentin Tarantino fan. This would have been pretty poorly done for me not to get at least some enjoyment from it, but it was far from that! It drowned in so much of QT's style and charisma, with so much of his iconic dialogue plucked straight from iconic interviews and new for the book. It was honest as well, though I wouldn't quite say a 'warts and all' type situation. It didn't need to be.

One thing that truly did surprise me was how girthy it is. Améziane fits in quite a lot about the man, the movies, and the relevant history.

I've now convinced my wife to have a QT marathon over the next few weeks with me so... it's done its job.

Sendo em BD, diverti-me bastante mais a ler, imagino, do que se fosse uma biografia "convencional". Foi um prazer ir lendo, acompanhada da BD.

Com o livro, é possível conhecer melhor a história do Tarantino, uma série de curiosidades e detalhes sobre os filmes e outros projetos em que participou, as suas inspirações e processo criativo.

Para quem é fã, vale muito a pena ler - e, certamente, ficará com imensa vontade de rever todos os filmes!

Pekný darček pre niekoho o kom viete že má rád Tarantina. Ale vlastne ako fanúšik som sa až tak nedozvedela. 😅 Aj preklad mi miestami prišiel trošku neohrabaný a nemalo to taký flow ako komiksy väčšinou mávajú. Ale nakreslené to bolo veľmi pekne a hneď som dostala chuť si pozrieť nejaký ten jeho film (vyhrali to Reservoir dogs).

Hikayeler çok güzel ama okuması çok zor, sürekli çizlerin stili değişiyor ve çok dağınık. Anlamaktan ve okumakta yorulduğum bir çizgiroman oldu Tarantino'yu da çok severim ama çok dağınık.

The second volume of the Amazing Ameziane's Cone Trilogy, this book is a loving tribute to two passions I share with the author - Comics and Cinema. This book is as fantastic a journey as one can hope for in the comic book form through the career and life of the greatest filmmaker of his generation - Quentin Tarantino - the legendary cinephile turned master film director.

An entertaining telling of QT’s career. I dislike the ambiguity of whether the dialogue is quoted from other sources. It feels that way, but is not. A good read for QT fans, but not sure it would hold water for those who are ambivalent about his films.

I feel like I’ve just been forced to listen to an extremely long soliloquy from an insufferable narcissist. A place where nobody can question his interpretation or views, and he has an endless path to self-aggrandizement with no counterpoint.

There’s a lot to be said for someone who knows their passion and follows it. He was able to find success doing it, and that’s not nothing. However, this man has such a shocking lack of humility that I just got angrier and angrier as I read this book. Yes, art is important. Yes, sharing your truth is important. But honestly, this is one director in one sub genre of art specializing in one kind of movie, and he’ll be waiting a LONG time before the world is bowing and scraping before him - no matter how many times he tells the world that he’s brilliant.

If he were to release a new movie, there’s only one way I’d go see it. Try something completely different, and show us that you’re not a one-trick pony.

So that covers the subject - the book itself was fine. Separated into chapters that go into either movies or specific topics in detail. If the subject weren’t so distasteful AND I was interested in the director’s work, it would have been a solid 2.5 stars. I rounded up my 1.5 star rating to 2.

Deze biografie in stripvorm over icoon Tarantino is een absoluut feestje voor de fans. Chronologisch vanaf de geboorte van zijn liefde voor het medium film, via de krochten van zijn eerste stappen in de business tot uitvoerige aandacht en anekdotes over zijn oeuvre, het staat er allemaal in.

Het zoekplaatje voor de ultieme in-/outsider dat alleen al de cover is, behoort tot de meest aantrekkelijke van alle film gerelateerde boeken.
Alle informatie, waarvan je als kenner vast niet alles wist, is in zijn geheel omgeven door een grafisch kunstwerkje. Dat maakt dit boek ook interessant als je bijvoorbeeld Tom Shone’s “A Retrospective” al in de kast hebt staan.

Misschien is het omdat ik met het werk van de man ben opgegroeid, maar voor mij blijft dit het summum van cool.

Amazing Ameziane (Ameziane Hammouche) is a genius and expresses the genius of Tarantino equally as well. This book is clearly exceptionally well researched and captures the tone of Tarantino's voice and influences well. He hits all the major beats and leaves you knowing more about Miramax, Tarantino, Thurman, Bruce Lee, and Tarantino's literary and film influences than you did before.

A great dense read beautifully illustrated and excellently translated into English by Christopher Bradley. A great entry into the world of Franco-Belgian comics.

Muy buena novela gráfica para fans del cine de Quentin Tarantino. Me gusta mucho la manera en la que está ilustrada ya que el estilo de las viñetas va variando dependiendo de lo que esté describiendo. Por ejemplo, al principio cuenta algunas historias de la infancia del director y el dibujo recuerda mucho a tebeos de los años 70. En cambio, cuando habla de las películas, para cada una el estilo se adapta al de la película, dibujando algunas con colores sobrios o fríos y otras películas que son más de pura acción con más color.

Va contando cómo se fueron llevando a cabo cada una de sus películas, de dónde sacaba la inspiración, cómo elegían a los actores/actrices, además de anécdotas interesantes. También trata su relación con el inefable Harvey Weinstein, que le produjo casi todas sus películas.

Recomiendo mucho la versión en español ya que es más grande y el gramaje de las hojas es mayor. En cambio, la versión en inglés parece la revista de juguetes de navidad de El Corte Inglés. Compré esta última porque en la versión en español tiene alguna errata de traducción, pero la devolví en cuanto vi cómo era.

A really fascinating and creative study of Quentin Tarantino, a former video store nerd who became one of the most recognizable and accomplished pulp filmmakers in the world. As a work of art is a bit suspect, messy, wordy, each page something different, which I suppose is meant to be a tribute to what author/artist Ameziane sees as Tarantino's impulsive, anything goes art. But the main thing that comes across about the director is that he is meticulous as well as spontaneous, an encyclopedic student of film, not chaotic as this book seems. But I still like it, don't get me wrong. Even if you only know Pulp Fiction and one other film of his, you will still be amazed at all the background info you get on all the major films.

I decided to read this actually because I had read Philip Kerr's One from The Other that features post WWII Jewish revenge groups, so wanted to see what this book had to say about Inglourious Basterds (which is a Jewish revenge fantasy film). And I learned a lot, not the least of which was that the was for Tarantino his tribute to The Dirty Dozen, a film I love and have seen many times. That's it. If you are a Tarantino fan, this is a must.

I'm not looking for gold or brilliant diamonds. I'm looking for meteorites. Ugluy pieces of the cosmos showing that everything is stardust.
So to me a book does'nt have to be brilliant, because that's only 4 stars. A bad book with one meteorite-sentence gets automaticly 5 stars.
I also don't like writing reviews. I don't see the point in telling others what I'm thinking.
After page 7 I'm writing this review, I somehow had to do it. I don't care what the rest of the book will be. It's 5 stars all ready.

Tarantinova biografie, která svou komiksovou formou tvořenou spousty různými kreslířskými technikami neurazí, vždyť ono se právě takové zpracování k jeho tvorbě docela dobře hodí.

U knihy si ale přijdou na své, jen opravdoví fanoušci filmů Quentina Tarantina, kteří jsou s jeho tvorbou již blíže seznámeni. Ti se dozví o oblíbeném režisérovi a jeho práci, inspiraci, vztazích s herci či producenty dost (snad více než bych čekal ze zvolené formy), ale je dobré mít na paměti, že na nějaký plnohodnotný životopis v komiksu samozřejmě nemůže být prostor.

Sıkı bir Quentin Tarantino hayranı olarak bu kitabı zevkle, sayfalardaki imajlara dalarak okudum. Tarantino’nun ağzından Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Django gibi muhteşem filmlerin öyküsünü okumak çok keyifliydi. Dusk till Dawn filmini ilk defa izlediğimde yönetmenin kafa yapısını çok merak edip o zaman sevmeye başlamıştım Tarantino’dan çıkan işleri. Bugün de yeni yapacağı her projeyi heyecanla bekliyorum. Biyografileri çizgi roman şeklinde okumak da gerçekten müthiş keyifli. Tavsiye ederim.

🟢 Es el libro ideal para los amantes de Tarantino. Está lleno de curiosidades y datos de sus películas.
🟢 La mezcla de estilos es fantástica. Se utiliza como forma de cambiar de tema o época.
🟢 Te permite conocer a QT a fondo. Ojalá haga una décima o incluso una undécima película, aunque lo dudo si ya tiene un hijo
🔴 Te pierdes en ocasiones. Da por sabido detalles que no son necesariamente conocidos para el lector.
