В периода 1891 - 1907 г. Андре Жид създава няколко произведения, които условно нарича Трактати, макар те да включват елементи от различни литературни жанрове. Теория на символа), размишлява за преходността на желанието (Любовният опит, или трактат за напразното желание), предлага ни разказ за изгубената вяра в думите, които, лишени от истинност, превръщат онзи, който ги изрича, в измамник (Ел-Хадж, или трактат за мнимия пророк), говори за трите вида морал: на добродетелта и жертвоготовността; на зачитането на върховния интерес на родината; на честта и почтеността (Филоктет, или трактат за трите вида нравственост), рисува образа на богатия, всесилен властник, пожелал да притежава всичко на ближния си, дори бедността му (Вирсавия), а в Завръщането на блудния син се позовава на евангелската притча, за да разграничи поражението от покаянието.

About the author

Diaries and novels, such as The Immoralist (1902) and Lafcadio's Adventures (1914), of noted French writer André Gide examine alienation and the drive for individuality in an often disapproving society; he won the Nobel Prize of 1947 for literature.

André Paul Guillaume Gide authored books. From beginnings in the symbolist movement, career of Gide ranged to anticolonialism between the two World Wars.

Known for his fiction as well as his autobiographical works, Gide exposes the conflict and eventual reconciliation to public view between the two sides of his personality; a straight-laced education and a narrow social moralism split apart these sides. One can see work of Gide as an investigation of freedom and empowerment in the face of moralistic and puritan constraints, and it gravitates around his continuous effort to achieve intellectual honesty. His self-exploratory texts reflect his search of full self, even to the point of owning sexual nature without betraying values at the same time. After his voyage of 1936 to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, the same ethos informs his political activity, as his repudiation of Communism suggests.

Gide riscrive la parabola evangelica, inizialmente riprendendola attraverso il ritorno del figliolo prodigo, poi attraverso i dialoghi con il padre, il fratello maggiore e la madre, che nella parabola non viene presentata. È il dialogo finale tuttavia a cambiare il significato del racconto, quello fra il figliolo prodigo e il fratello minore (personaggio aggiunto da Gide, che nella parabola non esiste nemmeno): i due si confrontano rispetto al viaggio del fratello maggiore (il prodigo), viaggio che era una scoperta di sé e della propria identità che però non è stato completato. Toccherà al fratello minore partire, affrontare quel viaggio, fisico ma anche interiore, e completarlo. Il fratello minore partirà, lasciando gli affetti e la casa ma anche i precetti trasmessi dalla famiglia, per trovare la propria singolarità.
Il racconto termina col fratello minore che parte, nel cuore della notte, dunque Gide non ci dice come andrà effettivamente a finire, di fatto il finale è aperto, ma proprio per questo lascia un senso di speranza.

Roppant különleges mű. Lassú filozofikus gondolkodásra késztető írás mind a három. Nem egyszerű összefogalni. Engem leginkább az címadó Tékozló fiú visszatérése történet érintett meg. Kifejezetten érdekes gondolatkísérlet, ahogy a legkissebb testvérrel beszélget a tékozló, de hazatért fiú. Külön élmény volt felfedezni az impresszumban Pilinszky nevét... vajon véletlen, hogy ő volt akkoriban a a Magvető Kiadó vezetője? Talány.
