My main question when reading books like this is: Does it contain direct actionable steps. The answer here is yes. Most impactfully for me in the area of gathering and maintaining clients. The novel is recent enough that all of the advice remains relevant at time of reading. It cites studies to back many of the claims, though I did not check to see if they were used correctly. It also relies heavily on anecdotal evidence, which while not as strong is perhaps more relevant to a book like this. I appreciate this. For me the framework of the novel… some form of hypothetical cognitive behavioral therapy, was annoying, but I also know that many readers might find this format useful.
Miriam does an excellent job at getting to the point and not sugar coating anything in the art business in this book. She directs you in the right way to build your art career. Gently encouraging but firm in a better way to do things. I've listened to her podcast for years and while this book is sort of a compilation of all the most crucial parts of being in business as an artist, it's all wrapped up neatly here in this book. Highly recommended for the artist who wants to sell their art.
I enjoyed reading this book, but I have to say this. When I was a young man I always wondered what it would be like to be a big shot working on Wall Street. I learned that a lot of those people are heartless and cruel. I no longer envy not being able to be one of them. Thank you, Mrs. Schulman for sharing your experiences of what it was like working on Wall Street. They can keep it. I rather be a poor, but decent human being.
This one is a keeper with relatable anecdotes and practical advice she gives you the direction to get out of your own way and into making the art business of your dreams.
