A haunted mansion is the last place Rachel thought she’d be spending New Year’s Eve, but her ghost whisperer Beta is determined to find out what happened to his father, she’s dead set on helping him, and the rest of their pack have their backs.
As soon as they set foot inside the property she can sense magic of the dark variety, but it’s too late to turn back once the trap has sprung. With no choice but to move deeper into the mansion, they discover some of its secrets while fresh new traps drag them further into the deadly nightmare that the house has become.
Fighting their way through and out is the only option left, and if Rachel has to turn to the dark side of witchcraft to save her pack, she will. She might have the powers of a witch, but she has the heart of a shifter and she’ll do anything to keep her mates alive.
Shifting Spirits is a standalone new adult shifter reverse harem romance with college-aged characters, serious steam and an HEA.
Please note: This is the second novel in the Hybrid Shifter world to feature Rachel and her mates. This harem was formed in Shifting Hearts, and the characters also make an appearance in the novella Hybrid Hearts.
Every time I get an arc for a Romy Lockhart book I start smiling. I know her books are not for everyone (no book is, to be honest), but I love how she takes her time to both build relationships and plots and gives all of those the attention they need. The chapters of her books are also relatively short. Although I don't care about chapter length that much, it's therefore always a perfect read to read while traveling. After all, I can only put a book down in between chapters.
Although the book can be read as a stand-alone, mostly because the author takes a lot of time to show us the characters, how they interact and what kind of life they have built, I think the best way to enjoy this book is to (re)read the first book about these characters and to then pick up this one straight away. Although the author does insert some reminders of what happened in the previous book it's much more fun if you do remember everything.
Especially because it's clear that the relationship between these characters is established. A lot of sequels mess with the harem, one way or another, but this one actually doesn't at all. Those characters know each other. Those characters have found a rhythm and structure for their lives. It works. And although established relationships are nice to read about, it's much more fun to read about the establishment after reading the get together.
It takes a little while before the action in this book really starts. If you're the kind of reader who'd love a little more tension, danger and fighting you will have to wait quite some time. But I do promise that eventually it's absolutely worth it. The big finale of the book is amazing and I love how all the small elements from this book and the previous book are coming together. And, it's quite clear that the next story might be even more exciting! I can't wait for it!
‘Tis the season all around. A large portion of this book takes place two weeks leading up to New Years. Which means lots of hot times and gift exchanges to be had by one and all in our favorite pack. Despite everything being oh so holly jolly merry and bright secrets find a way to cast shadows upon the group. Many of which will find a way to make themselves known one way or another, as decreed by The Fates. Forget Krampus, we are dealing with the Dark Lord himself before the story ends. Being another stand alone, so no cliffhangers here, we will have a HEA by the last page.
It was great to see Rachel, Adrien, Silas, and Carter again from Shifting Hearts. I really liked how one of the main story arc followed on from events in the first book rather than being completely new. I also liked how you got to know more about Silas in this one too. The ending of the book promises more and I hope we get to see them again.
What do you get when you cross a ghost story with a shifter/Witch story with a side of Christmas? You get this book. It was great catching up with Rachel, Adrian, Silas and Carter. This book had action and storyline. Overall, a good read.
Shifting Spirits is the seventh book in the Hybrid Shifters series by Romy Lockhart but it's hybrid-witch, Rachel's, second book. Things get a little hairy for Rachel and her mates which made for a good read.
Rachel, Carter, Adrian, and Silas are working on bonding together as a pack. The individual relationships that Rachel has with each of them are going strong it's the togetherness they have to work on as well as some personal issues. Silas has to learn to open up, Adrien has to learn to let go, and Carter is just Carter, he's an omega and not gonna change. I feel kinda bad about how the other two guys are with Carter, some of it is his omega nature but some of it he provokes and kinda deserves. However, the silly omega pulls at my heartstrings and I want the other guys to understand him better.
Ghosts, ghosts, everywhere. This book was primarily focused on Silas, Rachel's mate with medium abilities and it was wild. Only Romy can take a dash of holiday steam, mix it up with a little horror and add a pinch of mystery and get a crazy plot that works. Not gonna lie most of this book was that smooth paranormal romance that moved at a slower pace, if you liked the characters then that shouldn't be a problem. It was when I got to the last fourth of the book that things started to get crazy. Why does Rachel's books always read like a horror movie? This book was extremely steamy with holiday extras thrown in, there was a haunted mansion, a few shocking revelations, missing ghosts, disappointing parents all around, demonic spirits, and so much more.
Shifting Spirits was a great sequel to Rachel's first book, Shifting Hearts, it felt like some weird hybrid child of Harry Potter, Carrie, and one other movie that I can't quite put my finger on. Things most definitely got weird and there were more than a few shocking surprises at the end that I really enjoyed, a few even had me cracking up. I loved getting to see more of not only Rachel and her mates but the characters from the other books as well. Hybrid Shifters series, I say keep'em coming.
Shifting Spirits is a reverse harem novel that will reunite you with familiar characters, but if you haven't read the first book with these characters...you're going to feel lost. In Shifting Spirits, the relationships between the characters has already been established, and so you're going to be missing out on that development, but what you do get is an intriguing story that will keep you page-turning. Rachel has come back from helping a friend, she's exhausted and that immediately prompts "over protection" mode from her men. However, with her Beta being "haunted" by a spirit who has some "requests" they are going to have to deal with this situation and all the danger, chaos, and drama that it brings. This story is good, and you're going to appreciate the short chapters that move the storyline along at a nice clip. Alternating from character to character you get to get into each of their heads and come to understand them better. It does get a little confusing keeping the "lower ranked" guys straight - who's the Beta and who's the Omega, but you're going to enjoy the storyline and the steamy elements. I'm rating this book 4.5 out of 5 stars, but starring it 4 out of 5, because calling this book a "stand-alone" is a bit of a stretch since you really benefit from reading book one first so that you fully understand the characters themselves and the backstory references throughout.
I did really enjoy this book! The characters were all really good and with the pov changes, we really did get to see the main characters as more of a 3 dimensional and truly understand what's going on in their heads in certain situations more than you do in a lot of other books.
I enjoyed the way the characters interacted with eachother and the growth within their relationships and just as people in general. Rachel, Adrian, Silas and Carter really did mesh well as a group and I enjoyed reading about their adventures. I don't think I could pick a favourite out of the 3, they each brought something different and I ended up loving them all equally.
There's definitely some spice in this book, both solo and group which was a good read, but there's also a substantial plot running through that doesn't get lost in all the smut. It is a good ratio, and the plot is really all tied together really nicely by the end!
The fact its set around Christmas was just an added bonus right now in my lead up for Christmas.
I've read a few books by this author before, but I'll definitely be reading more in the future now!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Summary: Rachel has 3 mates and one of them is determined to find out what happened to his father. This is what gets her and the rest of the pack in a haunted mansion at New Year’s Eve. Rachel, being a witch (and a shifter), senses dark magic is at play. There is no way back, they have to fight forward and to do that Rachel has to turn to the dark side of witchcraft herself.
Review: Shifting Spirits is book 2 in the Hybrid Shifter world but is a standalone new adult shifter reverse harem romance. The characters are college-aged and The cover shows Rachel surrounded by her three shifter mates in their wolf forms and a full moon. The moon makes it clear that it’s a shifter story even though they don’t need a full moon to shift. Author Romy Lockhart has written many paranormal romance stories, but this was my first read of any of those. The story is written from the 4 main character perspective. I loved that Rachel’s mates (Adrian, Silas and Carter) are as different as they can be from each other, even though they are in the same pack and have the same mate. They have their own personalities and special abilities and develop themselves throughout the story. The book reads easily and has short chapters which I find really pleasant when reading.
This is the second novel featuring Rachel, Adrian, Silas, and Carter. Readers should download Shifting Hearts before reading Shifting Spirits. There is also a novella called Hybrid Hearts that is a good read to check out before. You will definitely want to follow Rachel’s journey from the beginning! Rachel is a lovely heroine and I love her group of men. I was fully invested in the story that I read this entire book in one sitting. The beginning of the book is a bit slower paced but stick with it — you won’t regret it! The plot is engaging, the spicy scenes are top tier, and the sweet moments were perfection.
I love the Hybrid Shifter universe and encourage readers to check out the other books in the interconnected world featuring different main characters. I believe the reading order is: Vicious Love, Shifting Hearts, Hybrid Rejected, Runaway Mate, Hybrid Hearts (Novella featuring everyone from the first four books), Necromancer Bitten, Moon Cursed, and Shifting Spirits. I believe the author has more books planned in this shared universe and I am so excited!
***4.5 stars*** I absolutely loved this story. It is a continuation of Rachel, Adrian, Carter and Silas story but can be read without reading Shifting Hearts. If you like a bit more of a background on the world and how the characters got together I recommend the first book too. I loved the haunted house theme in this book and thought it was nicely executed. Ghosts demons and more that will have you turning page after page to see how Silas past and the Dark Lord tie in. The story progresses nicely and the growth and development of these characters is phenomenal. I loved how Rachel has grown from the first book. Her men are just as protective of her as before and I’m glad nothing changed there. This pack each brings something to their relationship but their still is work to be done as a whole. With action, drama, secret coming out, and mysterious pasts the whole pack will do anything to unravel everything and get their HEA after all the chaos. Can’t wait to see if we get to read more about this harem in the future.
I really enjoyed this read. I loved that you could read it alone even though it’s book two. The first book from my understanding isn’t needed but would help you understand more of the world. I did not read it and I still enjoyed the book and had no problems understanding the story. Rachel is a witch that was turned by her Alpha to save her life and turn her into a hybrid. Rachel has her Alpha Adrian, her beta Silas and the omega Carter and I just love all 3 of them with her. They all just work together perfectly. I typically tend to favor one of the guys more when reading RH but with these guys they all have a little something that made me like them. I also enjoyed it being a standalone book as it’s nice to get into a story and conclude it all in one book. It’s refreshing to not have cliffhangers sometimes
Shifting Spirits: A Fated Mates Reverse Harem Paranormal Romance by Romy Lockhart was a fabulous reunion of Rachel and her pack and was an absolutely amazing ride that will take you back for yet another adventure in this shared world created by Romy Lockhart and S. Lucas.
Our fabulous heroine Rachel is a witch/wolf hybrid that decides after recent events that they need a little rest and recovery and take a little holiday vacation with her mates Adrian, Silas, and Carter. Little did they know that discoveries will be made that will rock their little group and set them off on yet another adventure.
Overall if you love shifter reverse harem romances, and are already familiar with Rachel and her men then this is the one for you! I absolutely love Rachel and how dedicated her men are and loved being able to see them once again!
The plot of this standalone PNR perfectly fits the festive season, being set timing wise into the last weeks of the year, covering Christmas and New Year's Eve. The festive mood is reflected also in the story, being full of gifts, love, and deep connection, including some steamy scenes, yet there is also shadow cast over the joy. Mystery and secrets appear on the pages too, especially in case of Silas and his stubborn ghostly companion, Sara. Determined to discover the truth, their steps lead to a haunted mansion where evil and dark magic resides. Turbulent New Year's Eve leads to an unexpected battle, but since this story is a standalone, HEA is to be expected. Rachel and her harem are already well known to the author's (and this world's) readers, so there is no need to introduce them either :)
This was my first time meeting the characters in this book and I wasn't disappointed. I will need to go and read the first one as even though this book has a lot of crumbs from the previous story I feel I am missing some pieces. I like the dynamic of a small pack and that they all play a part in the mechanics of their day to day life, it just took me a while to get into their story because a lot of it was about Rachael and her sleeping or her past, I didn't learn anything else for the first 25% of the book. After that though it was a great read. Meeting other people in her coven and important people in Silas life.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Okay firstly I want to say how much I freaking loved this book, the characters the plot everything. Secondly It says it’s a standalone but personally I feel like it’s a second book the first one being shifting hearts. So I definitely suggest reading Shifting Hearts first, as you’ll get to know the characters and how they got together etc. The book follows Rachel and her mates Carter, Silas and Adrien, Silas sees and speaks to ghosts… so when he finds out he had a sister and knows who his dad is he sets out for answers along with Rachel and the rest of the guys, they end up in a haunted house where their is demons they call on their friends to help but the dark lord is summoned to sacrifice them. Will they escape being sacrificed? Will they get their happy ending? Read to find out 😊
Things ended on a nice note at the end of Shifting Hearts and that's where we start off in Shifting Spirits. We began to realize that there may be some trouble in paradise when the past comes back to haunt them, big secrets are revealed, and old insecurities rear their ugly head.
I enjoyed the book, but it felt like Silas' storyline more than anyone elses. While I honestly did like his story I would have liked to see everyone shine in this book. We barely heard anything about Carter (love him!) or Adrian's gifts when in their previous story it was implied that all of their gifts played an active and prominent role in their lives. I did like that we get to see some more about the Dark Lord and I know I'm crazy, but I'd like to see what other appearances he may be making in the series.
I really enjoyed these characters in their previous book and I was happy to see them again in this book! I really like these characters and getting to know them has been a blast. This book starts with a bang and it doesn't slow down! I love the dynamics of Rachel and her pack. Each individual brings something unique to the relationship and they make it work. I also love the interconnectedness of this entire world book to book, its really fun and creative. These characters are well done, the attention to detail to them and the world building is great! The pace and flow matched the story, which is fantastic! Full of twists and turns, magic and steam, all of it combined makes for a great read!
This book can be read as a stand-alone, mainly because the author takes a lot of time to show us the characters and how they interact.I do believe it would be best to (re)read the first book and then pick up this one straight away. But if you don’t don’t worry, the author inserts some reminders of what happened in the previous book throughout.
I always know that when I pick up a book by Roma Lockhart I’m going to be reading a really good story! She takes her time to build relationships and develop a solid plot. She doesn’t miss any point and all her details are on point. The chapters are shorter so it is very easy to stop and start when needed. This book is a fun read that will have you grinning from ear to ear and feeling festive!
Rachel, a witch/wolf hybrid, is settling in with her mates: Adrian, Silas, and Carter over the holiday break now that she has time to breathe after everything that has happened to her in the last six months. As the story progresses her recovery is cropped, a truth bomb is dropped, and they must think fast before everything they built is stopped. Shifting Spirits is an exciting reverse harem romance read that continues the story of Rachel and her men in this shared world created by Romy Lockhart and S. Lucas.
I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
This universe is a set up of stand alones but for an even better experience I high recommend reading in chronological order: Vicious Love Shifting Hearts Hybrid Rejected Runaway Mate Hybrid Hearts Necromancer Bitten Moon Cursed Shifting Spirits Vampire Bait
I loved reading more about Rachel and Adrian, Silas and Carter they are one of my favorites in this universe lol. This adventure was amazing and I loved the details and the bondings coming along the pack has been epic!!!!! I love watching all their relationships grow and get stronger over time! And that end was perfection. I hope there's another story because this was so damned good!!!!
Rachel and her pack are ready to take us on another adventure. Although this is technically a stand-alone, it is recommended for full enjoyment and more perspective to read Shifting Hearts first. While the book starts off a bit slow, things do start heating up and you get drawn in and invested in what happens next. With ghosts and demons involved in this haunted house, Rachel and her guys are going to have to dig deep if they want to survive. The details crafted by the author for this world is truly phenomenal and make the book worth reading. Loved it
This is the second book for Rachel, Silas, Adrian, and Carter. I love that we get some amazing sweet moments between Rachel and each of the guys. We also get to see the pack members begin to form a stronger bond—on precipitated by Rachel. This book pulls together the last few threads of Rachel and the guys’ story, while also providing plenty of steam and sweet moments. I love this author’s world building—it’s so complex, and all the characters from her various series weave in and out of one another’s narratives seamlessly. It’s very well done!
This was a great addition loved that we got to reconnect again with Rachel and her mates. Although this is technically a standalone I would totally recommend for your full enjoyment that you check out Shifting Hearts first. I also liked that we got to know more about Silas in this one. The ending was promising more so I'm definitely looking forward to that. Overall a great read. I received a free copy via Booksprout and as always my reviews are totally voluntarily and no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are completely my own.
Shifting Spirits is out now and available in KU! This suspenseful, steamy paranormal novel can be read as a standalone reverse harem romance with a complete story, however, please be aware that this harem formed in Shifting Hearts and made an important appearance in the novella Hybrid Hearts so there will be spoilers if you chose to read out of order.
Reading order for Hybrid Shifters world as a whole:
We are back with Rachel and her mates in Shifting Spirits, which it was the perfect time of year to read this book due to it's holiday themes! There was a lot of wonderful festive moments, which made this book very wholesome in certain spots, but don't let that fool you. There are still lots of action, some intense situations, and tons of heat for Rachel and her men to keep warm on those cold nights. I loved every moment of this addition to the Hybrid Shifter series and I cannot wait to see what else is in store for this world!
This is all still in a shared world of the hybrid shifters….. but we’re focusing on Rachel…its her 2nd book. Rachel, Adrian, Carter and Silas are getting closer. They’re slowing getting closer in the individual relationships and the group relationship. They all have theyre inner issues to work through.so this book has Ghosts. we focused more on SIlas this book and his medium abilities. We’ve entered the holidays and have a steamy horror romance book. I absolutley adored this book… i hope we get to see more
This story follows Rachel and her mates Adrian,Silas and Carter. Although is focuses more on Rachel’s second mate Silas. He has medium abilities that before Rachel he suppressed them. This was a very good read with a Christmas twist. And ghosts, ghosts everywhere. We get to see Rachel work on their teamwork when it comes to the relationship. They have a solid individual relationship with her, but she it comes to everyone getting along well……it needs some work. This story has action, steam and truth bombs. So well written you will lose yourself in this standalone!
Love this even though it is a stand-alone I do suggest you read book before shifting hearts besides that book a great read to it just ties it better and you know how they all got together. This book is another great read from this author I have never been disappointed when Ive read one of her books. Great to read Rachel Silas Adrian and Carter again I think I like Silas better heheh but I know I’ll change my mind again if there is more books which I hope there is ! As This book does have a lot of Silas and the ghosts which is great ! I hope there is more !!
This is the seventh book in a series of standalones and the second one to feature Rachel and her mates. While the books can be read in any order I think it adds to the book if you read them in release order. It was wonderful reading about Rachel and her mates again. It was fun to see how their bonding as a pack has been coming along. I like how this book concentrated on Silas' power with ghosts and that they go to a haunted house. As usual there are fun times and steamy sexy times. I'm !joking toward to more from this series.
I just love this series. It is such a good world. It is a standalone but I liked that I read the shifting hearts first. I liked getting to know the back story so I knew what was going on. It wasn't necessary though. I have read several of the books in this series and I love how they interlock. Rachel is great!! She men are steamy and over the top hot. Rachel has come such a long way from her first book. She has become a kick butt hybrid witch wolf. This book we find answers to some of the issues that were brought up in other books. Highly recommend!!!!
