Divorced for two years, August Reynolds needs a change. He and his teenage son, Reese, pack up and move to Briar County, the home August left at fourteen. He’s hoping it’ll help him and Reese connect again, that Reese will come into his own there the way August did. For him, it was all because of Clint Jones, his childhood best friend and first crush.

At forty-two, Clint figures he’s probably never going to find the one. He’s dated on and off, but he’s never fallen in love. He has his business, his dogs, his friends and family. Most of the time, that’s enough, but then August moves home—Clint’s first kiss and bisexual awakening—making him realize he might be lonelier than he thought.

Clint and August fall back into an easy friendship. Some of their best childhood memories are the days they spent at the creek: talking, laughing, and learning about who they were. But now they’re adults, the attraction palpable between them. It’s not long before they’re tumbling into bed, stealing moments for secret kisses and spending days exploring each other.

They can’t move too fast, though. Reese misses his other father, and sometimes August worries Reese would rather be with him. They’re just getting their life on track, and the last thing August wants is to shake it up by telling Reese he’s with Clint. But as it turns out, that’s not the only obstacle in their way…

The Creek is a small-town, second-chances, friends-to-lovers romance, with mature men who talk about their feelings, stolen kisses, and nights spent beneath the stars.

This was a nice, light read. Very low angst. As in book one, everyone is nice here, if not too perfect. But I liked August and Clint well enough and I liked all the friendships in the book. I think my favourite parts were the prologue and the last 50 pages when certain events got me more invested in the story.

There were a few things that didn't work for me here:
- I didn't click with the writing style. It felt stilted and the dialogues sounded unnatural. It was very distracting for the first half of the book or so, but I feel it got better later on. There are books by this author where I enjoyed the writing a lot more.
- This is also related to the writing style, but I disliked the intimate scenes so much that I had to start skipping them. So cringy and often out of place. I had the same problem with book one.
- The story was too sappy at times.

There were hints of another couple and if I'm right and the next book is about them, I'd be interested in reading their story.

This book is such a snooze fest. We get pages and pages of stilted dialogue and tedious minutiae about what the guys ordered at the diner, followed by weirdly raunchy sex scenes.

Everyone is so nice and polite, except when they're fucking.

The one source of contention is August's son, Reese, resenting August for moving them to Briar County and away from Reese's other father (August's ex), but even that is resolved quite easily.

I deal with broody teenage boys (my son and his friends) on the regular and don't want to read about them too.

I started skimming at some point, straight through to the tepid HEA.

This series is not doing it for me.

Childhood best friends to lovers, second chance and single parent romance, set in a small town? Say no more.

******

I had way too high expectations from this book and it didn't live up to it. "The  Creek""Sundae's Best" is still fresh in my mind. I loved that book so much. Deacon and Grady were one of the sweetest book couples I've ever come across. Compared to that book, this one fell flat.

"The Creek" was devoid of dramatic moments, which I liked. I loved the relationships between the characters. All in, it was a cozy and heart warming read. I had fun with this book. But something still seemed missing.

The writing was pretty messed up if I'm being honest. It was anti climatic and a little boring. The main characters fell in love too fast, too soon. The sex scenes were so poorly written. I skimmed through those parts. Whenever the characters were being romantic, I found myself cringing inwardly. Their chemistry just felt so bland. I don't know whether it was me or the book...I just didn't enjoy it. That's it.

3.5 Enjoyed it stars! 💕 So this was sweet addition to the Briar County series with a second -chance romance for childhood friends Clint and August. They had shared their first kiss when they were fourteen years old and soon after August moved out of state with his family. Now nearly 2 decades later, August now a divorced dad of a teenager moves back to his home town. When he crosses paths with Clint, it seems that time has changed many things but not what they felt for each other. Can it be that easy to get a second chance with your first love? ❤️
The overall story is sweet with low angst. August's teenaged son Reese comes off sometimes as immature and bratty and sometimes as a wise old man.. 🤪 His personality was a tad bit inconsistent for a fifteen year old 🤷‍♀️ Nevertheless it's still quite romantic and sentimental in places, the small-town camaraderie is heartwarming and the chemistry between the 2 MCs is off the charts 🔥🔥 I was expecting some slow-burn.. but nope.. it got hottie and naughty pretty fast..😉🔥.
Highly recommended to fans of Riley Hart who are looking for a light and heartwarming read with some sizzle thrown in 👍 👍

Cute, unpretentious and lovely this third book in the Briar County series. Low angst,no conflict and not a lot of plot but enjoyable anyway. I loved Clint and August, they were smokin’🔥together. I didn’t like Resse, however and I didn’t warm up to him by the end. He was an ungrateful spoiled brat who treated his dad like shit even though he knew he was doing it and that his dad didn’t deserve it while his other father got all the hero worship in the world even tho he barely had time for him. The kid tried to redeem himself towards the end but it was too little too late for me . And he was almost 16 .. not exactly a kid anymore , he could understand the situation and who was the dedicated father. I understand craving the missing parent’s attention but don’t be an ass with the one who’s there.
I felt so bad for August because, let’s be honest, if it hadn’t been for his friends and Scout, Reese wouldn’t even have chosen to stay with him .

It was fast low angst read with likable MCs. But I didn't love it. Relationship development wasn't convincing and I didn't feel the chemistry between MCs. To be honest, I was a bit bored with this one.
Prologue was my favorite part.
I'm intrigued by Vince and Colby and look forward to their story.
Deacon and Grady are still my favorites and I loved seeing Scout.

I actually read this when it came out but didn’t leave a review because I was on the arc team and knew they’d throw a hissy fit if I was honest.

So I totally hated this book and was shocked it was supposedly written by RH. Why I am currently bothering to read the new release that’s the fourth in this series, I don’t know.

This book was the beginning of the end for me with this author.

Alright but not amazing! I felt like there could have been something more to make this better but can’t quite put my finger on it.

I felt like August got put through the ringer with his kid…and Lewis (his ex)…I am just glad Clint was there to support him.

I can tell there are some opportunities for a few new couples… possibly Colby and Vince, and hopefully in the future with the kids especially Reese and Scout…?

Overall a very low angst series so if you want some good feeling, a found family and no drama then this is for you!

This series... Gah! Its delightful! I have loved every book. The characters are real, it gives me the feels and I'm loving it.

Clint and August were childhood friends who shared a first kiss. Then August moved away and the boys lost touch. After August returns to Briar County, 15 year old son in tow, post-divorce, he and Clint reconnect. Friendship turns to passion and the men, now in their 40s navigate a new relationship. A relationship that was always meant to be.

Seeing the development of Clint and August's relationship, their reconnection just made me feel so happy. These two were always meant to be together. And although, at times, I got a bit frustrated with August (and sometimes Clint) marveling at how they were with each other, and how they got do lucky, it still felt just super sweet.

It was nice to see that the ex in this situation, wasn't actually a bad person and the 'found family' trope was strong (one of my favourites)

Sweet romance but not much happens

If you're after a relatively low angst and drama free romance between two mature men, then this is your book.

While I enjoyed it, I also felt there was just something missing that I can't quite put my finger on for why I didn't fall in love with it.

I really liked Clint, he was solid and reliable, the kind of guy who you'd always want at your side.

August was a bit more of a study in contrasts, part of him thoroughly self-assured, other times just a little bit of a worry wart and crashing in self-doubt.

Reese was a sweet kid, he's the only real cause of tension throughout the book, his acting up felt believable for a teenage boy who'd been moved away from his home.

Overall I liked catching up with the Briar County crew and I'm interested to see if the next couple is who it was hinted at here.

I liked the characters and their interactions, the progression of Clint and August's relationship and the bond that Clint formed with August's son, Reese.

The small town setting was charming and the title became clear very soon that it was very fitting for this story.

Second Chance Love.

A heart warming story, I love the whole childhood friends reunited trope, and this one was a nice gentle read, very low angst. Clint and August meet as kids, and form a friendship which stays in their hearts throughout their lives; they're together for a short time, only to go their separate ways. Life and fate throws them back together, and the old spark between them is reignited.
I enjoyed the style of the book, I also loved seeing them as children, it really helped build up their connection. August's son, Reece, plays an integral part in the story, his connection to Clint seemed natural, and actually acted to enhance the relationship between the two MCs. In fact, in many ways, the story is about finding family, as well as being a romance.

As usual for Riley, this is well written and thought out. It flows well, the relationship between August and Clint develops quickly, but considering their past it just works. I also enjoyed meeting the guys from the previous books, they played a big part in the story. Looking forward to future books in the series.

I received an ARC of this story, which in no way influenced my opinion.

Highly recommended! Especially if you're in the mood for warm fuzzies and a happily ever after!

Former childhood best friends reunited after decades and an epic second chance love story, I mean, what's not to love? August and Clint reconnecting after all those years was everything - their connection was so strong and I loved the chemistry they had. The small glimpses of their past were precious and I loved how they kept coming back to their place at the creek. So many swoonworthy stolen moments and kisses.

I really appreciate how this series have almost no angst or drama, the characters are all mature and communicate well and this book was no exception. August being a single parent to a teenager that was acting out complicated things a little, but the way Clint tried to connect with Reese was the sweetest. The story, the relationships and struggles all felt realistic, and it was great how supporting the characters were to each other.

I loved being back in Briar County, and August and Clint's story was just so heart warming and sweet; definitely a story that left me with warm, fuzzy feelings! Briar County always felt like the ultimate small town and it was great seeing older characters make small reappearances.

If you’ve read any of my reviews before you already know that I love Riley Hart. She could write a grocery list, publish it and I would buy it and give it a 5 Star Review. I honestly have yet to find a book of hers that I don’t enjoy. Her writing always speaks to me, even though she usually breaks my heart in the process of making me fall in love with her guys. The Creek is no exception to this fact, but at least I only cried a bit at the beginning before she fixed me up right quick.

August and Clint were childhood best friends and each other’s first kiss. They spent most of their friendship by the creek that becomes their place – also the site of that first kiss as well as all the ones that followed before August’s mother whisked him away to Florida.
August was Clint’s Bi-Awakening and Clint was August’s confirmation that he was indeed gay. 28 years after August moved away, he’s divorced and on his way back to Briar County with his 15-year-old son and their dog, Butter, in tow. Clint has dated both men and women, lost both of his parents, has a found family and is a proud uncle to his brother’s kids. While August followed through on his dreams of becoming a Veterinarian, Clint is a welder, having made a successful business and his pieces are in demand.

After spotting each other at Mama Adaline’s, Clint and August’s friendship picks up almost right where it left off and it also inevitably heads into the romantic territory that they were likely destined for as teens. At first, they agree to keep their relationship quiet until August’s son, Reese, is more comfortable in Briar County and less angry with his dad for what he sees as giving up on his pop (August’s ex). Through Clint’s found family, Reese and August are both accepted into the fold and Reese begins to feel more stable in his new life, making friends as well as a possible romantic prospect in Scout, Grady’s nephew. As things settle into a comfortable routine for the reunited best friends-turned-boyfriends and Reese, August’s ex makes a surprising request, throwing everything Clint and August finally have into chaos.

Will Clint get to have his forever in Briar County with August and Reese, or will he lose August again? Is August willing to leave Clint again or will he take his happily-ever-after for himself, consequences be damned? If the Lord is willing and The Creek don’t rise, August and Clint will have everything they’ve both wanted since they were 14 (see what I did there?).

I received this book as an Advanced Reader Copy and, as always, my review is unpaid and honest.

The Creek is book 3 in the Briar County series by Riley Hart. It is a standalone but I was happy to have read the previous 2 books, just for the advantage of knowing all the side characters.

I had wanted to go back to Briar County for a while now. I've mentioned this before but I always feel more for the older MCs getting their HEA. The first 2 books were a real treat and although this one had the "second chance" trope, which isn't my favourite, I found myself enjoying reading about August and Clint's reunion.

The prologue, 30 years prior, really hooked me. I loved reading about Clint's openess and his embrace towards August. The way these two became friends was just so pure and fun. I love that Riley showed us that little bit of time in both MC's lives without going too far with it.

August and Clint were clearly soulmates. You could feel it in the way they were with each other. I enjoyed reading about the relationship between Reese (August's 15yo son) and his dad, but also the one he ended up building with Clint. There was just something so natural and grounded between the characters. Seeing Reese making friends and understanding that his dad was always going to put him first was so touching. This story revolved a lot about friendship and family and I liked it a lot.

I may have wished for a little more drama to spice up the story but in the end, the maturity of both MCs, as well as the "cast" ensemble really delivered. Obviously, I'm now waiting for Vince and Colby's story. I have a feeling these two will be hot together ;).

Decent!

Honestly, I probably shouldn’t have read this series so close together. Especially not when I was reading another series that just blew my mind. These are easy, light reads. And they all sound the same, if that makes sense. They’re all essentially the same story with different characters and different tropes. But they’re all very formulaic and all of the characters seem to have the same voice.

Either way, they’re still pretty fun and I didn’t hate them. That’s a plus!

I definitely needed a low-stakes, cozy romance all of the fantasy I’ve been reading, and this book provided the perfect escape <3

I loved how open and honest everyone was and the romance was great, I’m glad August and Clint found each other in the end 🥹

MY RATING: 🔉🔉🔉🔉🔉
August and Clint had me on the verge of tears. Reconnecting after 28yrs like nothing kept them apart. I just wanted to hop into the book and hug Reese. There’s just a different vibe when the characters are in their 40s with older teen kids. This found family just keeps growing and I love it.

✨SERIES REVIEW✨- Briar County by Riley Hart

Series Rating: 🔉🔉🔉🔉🔉
This is such a grown ass series dealing with real grown ass problems. These characters are in their 40s and it shows. No hate to the youngins but there’s a different vibe when you learn to communicate and not play games even unintentionally. I loved how this series showed the importance of not just family but found family as well. It’s also never too late to repair damaged relationships or speak your truths. I’m hoping for a second gen spinoff especially with that epilogue.

I loved August and Clint. Not only am I a sucker for friends to lovers but the fact this was a second chance romance made it that much sweeter. This was low angst but had so much heart.

There was such a kindness with Clint. He was so loved by his friends and family. He embraced everyone with an open heart. I adored how happy he was to see august again. His joy and willingness to jump in where they left off was wonderful. He had been missing something for so long and had no idea what it was - it turned out that it was his childhood first love. I also thought he was so amazing in how he treated August son. He always made him feel valued.

August was a kind and loving father. He was doing his best to provide his son a stable life in a community he missed so much. Obviously they had a lot to work thru considering the divorce and move from Florida but august never brushed his son’s worries or concerns to the side. And even tho he found so much comfort in Clint, he was fearful that relationship would be too much for his son to handle. But he couldn’t hide his feelings for long.

Clint and August were consumed with their attraction and connection. They hadn’t seen each other for more than 25 years but they picked up where they left off. The passion was intense but also so sweet and loving. They truly brought out the best in each other.

August and Clint’s second chance romance was just the sweetest story ever! I couldn’t put it down and read until 2am because of it! I absolutely LOVED how their connection was so strong and just so real. Being divorced myself with a child and a practically absent ex, I have to give August credit for how he handled those situations. I wanted to reach thru the pages and strangle Lewis because he reminded me so much of my ex. I adored how Clint was with both August and Reese. There is nothing sweeter then seeing the person you are crushing on interacting and getting along with your child and vice versa. It’s easier to recognize a good thing after living thru a not so good thing. Truly loved this story!!

Two years after his divorce, August moves him and his son Reese to his old childhood hometown in Briar County to try to reconnect. When Clint runs into his first ever best friend and first crush, he's hit with all his past feelings. They've never forgotten one another and even with the changes in their lives they still fall back into their easy friendship. When their feelings become stronger, they have to figure out how to navigate the obstacles thrown their way or risk losing each other a second time.

August and Clint's story starts in the prologue with a sweet, childhood infatuation that breaks your heart a little. When they reconnect it's like nothing had changed, except they had lived so much between then and now. August worries about all the changes and how it affects his son, but Clint is there to reassure him he's doing the best he can. Clint has casually dated, never settled, but August is the only person to ever make him feel strongly enough to want to try. They both care so much and are constantly trying to show each other how amazing the other is. Their relationship is honest, effortless, and it forms a bond so deep that they would do anything for one another.

While this was a little lower on the drama than the others in the series, I'm pretty sure it's the spiciest so far. Clint and August just have an undeniable connection. It was so sweet to see Reese slowly trusting Clint and seeking his advice and befriending the other kids. I love seeing the little found family that's formed since the first book, they have so much support for one another. Definitely teared up at the big bonfire moment for one of our couples. There's no doubt who this last book is going to be about, it seems like we've been waiting since Firefly Lane to see what happens with one of the characters. I don't want this series to end, but I'm looking forward to reading the final book!

Awe yeah single dad!

I loved that we got to see their childhood and how they connected then. Yes they were torn apart by distance but when August comes back to town with his 15 yr old son in tow we see just how much Clint was on his mind at times. Their friendship started right back up. I loved this.

Augusts is having a hard time with his son but that’s to be expected when he is up rooted from the only life he had ever known. It was going to be growing pains but I loved the way August handle it, the communication was perfect in this book. No drama really in any of these books it was all worked out with communication.

Clint didn’t want to step on anyone’s toes be his attraction to August and vice versa can’t be denied so when Reese goes to spend some time with his other dad, Clint and August let their attraction run wild. And they come to find out that its more that just that its love.

The way this whole book is handled I just melted honestly. Reese is wise beyond his years and I loved that he talked his feelings out about his dads with Clint it was a sweet moment.

I want more from this series!! The narration was perfect. ❤️

It was good to return to the Briar County world. August and Clint were best friends in middle school. They were each other's first kiss, August's awakening of being gay, and Clint becoming aware of being bisexual. Then, August's mother moved the family to Florida to marry and the boys were separated, eventually losing touch. When grown, August married and he and his husband adopted a son who is now 15 years old.

After August divorced, he moved back to his childhood hometown for a fresh start. He was surprised to bump into Clint and even more surprised to learn that Clint was single. The attraction began again, but now the priority is August's son who has been through many difficult changes. Can these two work through the challenges, healing to find love on the other side? It's great to catch up with the larger friend group and other characters in the series. This book has warmth, support, healthy relationships, lots of passion, and a forever love.

This third installment in the Briar County series follows Clint, a welder who we saw help Holden make a piece for Roe's shed in the first book, and who owns the dogs that had puppies, which Grady and Deke adopted one in the second book; and August, Clint's childhood best friend and first kiss, who moved to Florida 28 years prior and is back with his son 2 years after his divorce to try to have a fresh start in his hometown. I didn't put 2 and 2 together when we came across Clint in either of the books, and I really should have with the little flirt moment he had with Grady in the second book, but oh well 😀 I loved that we got a little prologue in this book to see how their friendship started, their stolen moments and the creek they went to, and Clint realising his bisexuality. Then this book starts about 1 year after the end of the last book.

This book was really sweet, and I enjoyed watching these 2 immediately reconnect, and I was also surprised how quickly things got steamy, but I definitely am not complaining. Again, I love the armpit appreciation in this book, and I also was interested to see again the idea of leaving your fingers in someone after you've finished to keep your cum in them. Riley Hart also used that in A Million Little Moments, which was my first book of hers that I read. Overall, this book had my favourite smut in it, and I liked how easily and quickly they connected. Roe and Holden had the same immediate chemistry, but they were a bit slower to do anything together, and Grady and Deke slowly explored each other as Deke got more comfortable being with Grady, so the immediate hot sex fun, not to mention the other things above.

I loved that we got to see developments with all the other characters too. Holden proposing to Roe was really sweet, and was about time, and it was fun that everyone was around with them. We also got to see Grady and Deke at their new house, with their sasquatches made by Clint, and their woolly cows, and to see Scout spending so much time with them, and he himself getting more comfortable in his skin. We also get to see Vince finally leave his toxic partner and move out to Harmony too, where Roe's younger brother Colby volunteers his room for Vince to stay at. Speaking of those two, I totally know they will be the next story, if there is one, and I already love the banter and tension coming off them from this book. Clink and Colby are good friends, and so we get to see a lot of Colby, and later on, Vince too. While I love watching Wyatt and Sean befriend Reese, it was extra special watching how close Scout and Reese got, and I do wonder if something will bloom there in the future of this series.

August was also a fun character, and I really liked how sweet of a father he is, struggling with a son who is angry and lashes out at him, and trying his best to be everything that his son needs. He loves so thoroughly, and it also extended to his relationship with Clint. They were both so kind and supportive of each other, and I love that we have characters like Clint and Deke in this series who are both so selfless that they're willing to leave the town they love to help and support their partners. They don't end up having to, but the sentiment is what I love to see.

For me, this book at times felt to me slightly corny, and once or twice it did take me out of the experience momentarily. A couple of lines felt strange, or weirdly repetitive, like maybe this was slightly rushed during editing, and so while I really liked the story and the characters, I did find it a little much at a moment or two. It might be because I've read all of these books in 3 days, and there is too much sweetness that I got a little oversaturated in it, but I think there were a couple of lines here and there that weren't necessary and felt a little funny. Otherside this was another great book in this series which I hope Hart decides to keep writing, because I love these characters and place so much.

Sweet, low angsty, and a great addition to this series. I loved how the kids interact with each other, and as a character said in the book, there is a lot of hope for this next generation
