Concentration & Detachment: Two of the Most Powerful Human Abilities Coming Together to Teach You the Secret of Work

Rate this book
Today we are much advanced in terms of technology and comfort. We also have access to all the resources we need. Yet, even after gaining all that, we are losing our fundamental abilities such as concentration, focus, awareness, and self-discipline. We allow the mind to attach to things and people too easily. We allow it to become distracted too quickly. All our technological advancements, comforts, and resources are of no use unless we can approach them with the proper, well-crafted tools of the mind.

An act of deep concentration is the demonstration of the intense fire that one carries within. To be immersed in the world and yet be perfectly detached is the demonstration of the wisdom of life. Yet we are never trained to develop such powerful abilities that we already have.

This book explores the subjects of 'Concentration and Detachment' in a fundamental way and gives practical insights on developing them. It turns out that by developing these two abilities at best, one can master the secret of work. We commonly see that work, for most people, leads to stress and frustration. But with concentration and detachment abilities work becomes an experience of joy and liberation. It gives inner happiness and an experience of the state of flow. With these perfect instruments, it becomes natural to create a work-life balance in a culture where work is too emphasized.

This book explores the subjects at a level of day-to-day life as well as at the level of the highest ideal, which leads to spiritual growth. Starting from psychological concepts, it leads to spiritual ideas which are connected to concentration and detachment.
In its basic form, deep concentration gives us inner happiness. But at the highest levels, concentration leads to the state of samadhi or super consciousness. In its basic form, detachment gives us the ability to separate from the unwanted feelings or thoughts that we have. But at the highest levels, it leads to freedom from everything that binds us.

Designed as a composition of words, Zen stories, quotes, graphics, scenarios, and my insights, this book is an enjoyable journey to understanding the most fundamental abilities of the human mind. Having so much variety of concepts, this book is a suitable read for anyone above the age of 13. Students can learn to enhance their concentration skills using the practical tools given in the book. Working individuals get a much better understanding of how to maintain a work-life balance by learning the secret of work. People of older age can extract the deep spiritual ideas related to concentration and detachment given in this book.

Being a person who was born in early nineties ,I could sense the transition from the times when availing the resources was considered either a luxury or did not even exist to the present scenario where everything is available at a mere click . But all these comforts have come up with a price.

Humans have lost the basic concentration skills and EQ (Emotional Quotient) has hit an all time low. The attention spans have depleted to the alarming levels so much so that reels grab the focus of youngsters like no other source of information. And this book very well highlights these hazardous impacts in a nutshell and provides the solutions too.

The contents are structured in a really nice manner and by including some stories in between author has ensured that the readers don't feel monotony at any point. Also the actionable steps that he has mentioned are very relatable and can make a significant impact in the lives of all kinds of people irrespective of their age and work profile. The illustrations and graphic visuals are just a cherry to the cake.

Overall a fantastic work that cater to the requirements of all kinds of people.

We all are very much familiar to the line "The first impression is the last impression" and the title of the book gives me the same feeling. It is a self help book that teaches us that with the help of two most powerful human powers - ' Concentration ' and 'Detachment ' ,we can do some very difficult task with ease. A time worthy read.

I’d read a wonderful line in the book ‘A monk who sold his ferrari’ which goes something like this - ‘Your mind is a wonderful servant, but a terrible master’!

Doesn’t this totally hit the bullseye? 🎯

Well, this book is written on parallel lines and propounds on exactly what the title suggests: Concentration and Detachment.
These two phenomena are very crucial in one’s life and the author, dividing the book in two parts, has put forth his ideas and understanding about them in great detail.

He has provided practical exercises, his individual experiences, some insightful zen stories and a few thought-provoking lines by Swami Vivekanand. I absolutely loved them and the way they blend so very well with what the author is trying to convey.

The first part deals with the importance of concentration and how you should develop more focus and attention towards tasks that matter to you and how to avoid distractions that act as roadblocks.
As the author says: ‘There is a great power in ‘One’. It is the power of concentration.

The next part deals with detachment which I believe is more on the spiritual side as it talks about how you should do everything and yet detach yourself from it because whatever is done, it’s done by the identity associated with this body and the identity that you so very much consider as your true self is just temporary and thus anything attached to it is temporary and what is temporary isn’t meant to be attached to and thus you should simply do the job at hand and then immediately ‘Detach’ and ‘Witness’.

I personally connected a lot with this part because it expounded thoughts that match my thinking process alot!

All in all, I absolutely loved this book and I learnt so much from it.
Honestly, it is an amazing book and I’d genuinely suggest each one of you to read it.

"Think of your life as if it was someone else’s"

Their are a lot of ways for a human to attain a state of equilibrium between thoughts and temptations.

This book has a very strong presence with its title and cover and the topic itself offers a lot to ponder on.

Concentration and Detachment are the two essential qualities a person needs to have clarity in his existence and understand his purpose. Without any of them life becomes a vicious cycle.

This book takes the reader on an enlightening journey concentrated on these two topics and elaborated by snippet storytelling, meaningful illustrations, introspective questions, words of knowledge of prominent people and detailed discussions and views from author on how a person's life depends and change because of the concentration he acquire and detachments he abandon.

The author's clarity is visible through his words and I really liked how he used the wisdom of people like Swami Vivekanand, zen stories, lessons of Ashtavakra Gita etc. I was also amazed as to how the author used the snippets/Short stories and even poem in this book which complimented the underlying meaning of the chapter.

There are many quotes and lines that you can keep for yourself.

This book achieves a difficult task to contain enormous insight over such difficult topics in less than 70 pages. The page length plus the well organized wholesomeness of the book makes it even more appealing.

My favourite part about the book were its meaningful illustrations in the beginning of the book and the list of book recommendations im the end.

If you are looking to read a book that gives you time to introspect, wisdom to attain mindfulness and a space to ponder on reasoning. This book is the best for you.

𝘾𝙊𝙉𝘾𝙀𝙉𝙏𝙍𝘼𝙏𝙄𝙊𝙉 & 𝘿𝙀𝙏𝘼𝘾𝙃𝙈𝙀𝙉𝙏 𝙗𝙮 𝙎𝘼𝙍𝙏𝙃𝘼𝙆 𝙋𝘼𝙏𝙀𝙇

🕊️How has all the knowledge in the world been gained but by the concentration of the powers of the mind? The world is ready to give up its secrets if we only know how to knock, how to give it the necessary blow. The strength and force of the blow comes through concentration."

There is no limit to the power of the human mind. The more concentrated it is, the more
power is brought to bear on one point, that is the secret."

Almost all of our suffering is caused by our not having the power of detachment. So along with the development of concentration, we must develop the power of detachment.

🕊️The book is based on the principle stated above and aims to teach some disciplines in order to practice concentration and detachment on a regular basis. To help achieve the greater good of the world and work towards sustaining a healthy life.

📌 I don't read a much of self help but the length of this book bit me by surprise. It's short and concise. It has an comprehensible narration with figures, that makes it authentic. If you're looking for a short and concise self help them this might be a good choice for you.

*Take Concentration and Detachment as a couple magnets, all you need is enough distance to negate the polar force. Working on such disciplines will give you the power to make them apart and bring them to the vicinity. It all depends on you 🫵🏻*

Do you ever try to focus on many types of thoughts that come into our mind in some minutes, everything we saw and everything we hear creates a thought in your mind. But ever you think about how many types of thoughts and how can we control them.

We can scroll an infinite number of reels and after successfully wasting many hours doing this we get a feeling of regret but it feels infinite energy and pressure in doing or just start doing something productive work. Do you know why this event happen?

We truly need to detach from our unnecessary thoughts to achieve full concentration, we all know that concentration is something achieving a state of flow of doing something, and after completing that we feel pleased. But how do we achieve that flow and what factors are necessary for achieving full concentration?

Detaching ourselves from unnecessary thoughts is called detachment but how do we know that certain thing is unnecessary and we need to get detached from which thoughts and from which thoughts didn't?

The book is written in a relatively well structured all points and definitions are written so well, it can be extremely helpful for people who are interested in knowing about their thoughts, concentration, flow, and life. It self-help book but you didn't get bored because of the short stories mentioned between some chapters.

Without any second thought just read this book once you will definitely not get disappointed.

This book "Concentration & Detachment" is written by Sarthak Patel.

The author has done an amazing work about picking these two & making us understand how they are important & fundamental to have, to let us achieve our life goals.

We have never been taught what mindset to use where and how to change it at will when needed.
Achieving mastery over this skill takes a lot of effort, practice, and experimenting consciously. But without our ability to concentrate and detach at will, this mastery cannot be achieved.

Concentration - allows us to get involved in our work and work out the details .
Detachemt - allows us to look at life from a certain distance so that we can make necessary changes and shifts. Detaching ourselves from unnecessary baggages of life is important to concentrate.
This combination may sound easy but is the hardest to achieve, and yet it is essential for a good quality of life.
In later part, the author has also described about awareness, and along with these two, awareness also plays a vital part in creating the life we want.

This book explores the subjects of 'Concentration and Detachment' through different ways.
Consisting of psychological concepts & spiritual ways to enhance these abilities this book is overall an enjoyable self-help read!!

Happy reading!!

This is my first Indian Author self-help book and I'm really happy how straight up and to the point the book was.
To be inspired by Swami Vivekananda and write a book from that thought itself is a plus in my opinion.
We often see Indian Authors take references from the West when we completely forget the masters we have around us.
.
.
If you're starting with self help, a 200-300 page book could be a bit overwhelming so this book really fits the picture. 100 pages does the job and it's good.
.
.
Yeah if you are someone who has read a lot of self help, you might find the word a little inspired, talking about being in the present is a lot from The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle.
Sarthak nevertheless has done his research and he's kept his originality too.
Although I would've loved it if he could shine a little more light on detachment as well as he did on concentration in my opinion.
Also I feel, the language of the book has been kept extremely simple so that anyone can read it.
.
.
The zen life examples and the questions in the book were a lot to think about so yeah, a good research on that and an interesting take.
Overall, it'll be hard to find a book which is 100 pages and talks about two things we need a lot in life: Concentration and Detachment.
.
.
Good book, concisely written.

I've recently completed reading the book 'Concentration and Detachment: Two of the most powerful Human abilities coming together to teach you the secret of work' written by Sarthak patel. Author's writing style and presentation method is wonderful.

The book: concentration and detachment is a wonderful guide to improving your own life. The author highlights, most emphatically, the various avenues for improvement, these skills will provide to an individual's life. he starts by outlining the importance of concentration and detachment and then begins to tell us in a step by step manner how we can achieve greater degree of concentration and attachment in our life. he also states that just like any skill, concentration and detachment can be learnt. he highlights that improving concentration in our tasks, not only increases their efficiency but also their aptitude. The book also lends importance to the fact that while concentration is necessary to accomplishing our goals, detachment is necessary to spare us from superfluous distractions. In conclusion this is a wonderful book. I hope everyone has a chance to enjoy it.

We all know that in order to accomplish a certain thing we must concentrate. It is of the utmost value to learn how to concentrate. To make a success of anything you must be able to concentrate your entire thought upon the idea you are working out. All your real advancement must come from your individual effort. Success is assured when you are able to concentrate for you are then able to utilize for your good all constructive thoughts and shut out all the destructive ones. It is of the greatest value to be able to think only that which will be beneficial.

📚Book name- Concentration and Detachment: Two of the most powerful Human abilities coming together to teach you the secret of work
✍️ Author- Sarthak Patel

📌Ideas are like seeds. If we do not water them with regular practice, they will never grow and even become useless. I think the concepts of 'Concentration' and 'Detachment' are not rocket science. All of us understand how important they are, and yet none of us have mastered them in our practice.

📌📌The book “Concentration and Detachment: Two of the most powerful Human abilities coming together to teach you the secret of work” first helps to deeply understand the issues of concentration and detachment and then gives an attempt to find ways to put them into practice.

📌📌Before reading the book I did not know how closely these two opposite words 'Concentration' and 'Detachment' are related to each other.

📌📌It really goes without saying how well defined the book is in all chapters with real examples and theorems to prove them properly.

📌📌📌I enjoyed reading the book very much. 😊

❤️❤️❤️ Happy reading 😊

The author laments that despite having access to all the resources and information we need yet we are losing our fundamental abilities such as concentration, focus, awareness and self-discipline.

Attention-deficit disorder is increasing among both adults and children over the time. It’s becoming hard for people to concentrate on longer tasks and being easily distracted by other tasks or thoughts. In order to complete any work effectively we need full concentration. The book makes you understand the subjects of concentration and detachment and methods to put these skills into practice.

“𝐶𝑜𝑛𝑐𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑜𝑤𝑠 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑡𝑜 𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 𝑔𝑒𝑡 𝑖𝑛𝑣𝑜𝑙𝑣𝑒𝑑 𝑖𝑛 𝑎𝑛 𝑎𝑟𝑒𝑎 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑘 𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑑𝑒𝑡𝑎𝑖𝑙𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑜𝑠𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛. 𝑊ℎ𝑖𝑙𝑒 𝑏𝑒𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑑𝑒𝑡𝑎𝑐ℎ𝑒𝑑 𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑜𝑤𝑠 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑡𝑜 𝑙𝑜𝑜𝑘 𝑎𝑡 𝑙𝑖𝑓𝑒 𝑓𝑟𝑜𝑚 𝑎 𝑐𝑒𝑟𝑡𝑎𝑖𝑛 𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑠𝑜 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝑚𝑎𝑘𝑒 𝑛𝑒𝑐𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑎𝑟𝑦 𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑓𝑡𝑠.”

The author talks about mastering these two skills to get enjoyment and satisfaction in any work you do. It’s a short book, but everything is explained clearly.

✔️Ideas are like seeds. If you don’t water them with consistent practice, then they never grow. They become useless. But the more you practice, they start evolving into a giant tree that shapes your character.

✔️Unless it gets in your bones, you haven’t known anything.

This is a very effective and impactful book to practice mindfulness. When we don’t work on our ideas, they get trapped in the vacillation of mind. Concentrate on your ideas, let them flow easily and detach yourself from pessimism, societal opinion, comparisons and those around you whose words are not helping you but discouraging you and holding you back from achieving your goal.I liked the chess part and how author has shared his experiences. Learning something is not effective until we apply it to our life so Expand your perspective, form attachment with your goals, time and bind your energy to them. Detach yourself from things/ opinions or habits that are holding you back or becoming barrier to your growth.

In this book we are taught by the author what mindset to use where and how to change it at will when needed. Achieving this takes a lot of effort, practice, and experimenting consciously and without our ability to concentrate and detach at will, this mastery cannot be achieved. The clarity of thought conveyed in the book is truly astonishing. Each topic is well explained with stories and examples and in a very simple language. The book is filled with reflective questions and subtle illustrations in each chapter. It is full of pearls of wisdomOverall it was an enjoyable as well as insightful read.

This books revolves around two very appealing topics which plays vital role in self help and those are "CONCENTRATION AND DETACHMENT". The good part of book is it gives you some practical guide to implement the thoughts perfectly. Book has some really intriguing way of narration by author. I personally really find this book impressive. As book is filled with creativity. It is blend of creativity in itself. The quotes, stories, illustration etc. Will keep you engaged and give a unique experience. Although, I felt some more sub-topics could be covered in this book and it can continue the series of issues. Still, overall it is one of the decent and must read. ✨
Sharing one of my favourite quote from the book for your reference:
"Even the answers that you come up with should be questioned over and over again." 🔥

What I find best is that the book doesn't try to force ideas and suggestions on you. Instead, it tries to clarify the concept and urges readers to find their own strategies and ideas to implement them in their daily lives. This is a very rare combination that is beautifully presented in the book! Looking at the title of the book, I thought how can concentration and detachment be related in any way? But I was surprised to see how closely related they are and how they affect our daily lives! Strongly recommended for anyone interested in understanding these topics! Distractions are every where and attention is required to achieve a goal. The book talks about the importance of concentration, balance between work and rest and the need for a renewed mindset. Then there are exercises and tips in the book to achieve that.

Concentration and detachment are two important factors for a disciplined life. Though I have read many self-help books before, I've never come across one that speaks about detachment in this detail. However, concentration is a popular topic. Still, this book, centered around these two vital topics appears uniquely enchanting.

What I found best is that the book doesn't try to impose on you with ideas and advice. Instead, it tries to make the concept clear and urges the readers to find their own strategies and ideas to implement them in their day-to-day life.

No doubt, that this would be an insightful read for everyone irrespective of their age group or social background. Peace of mind is what everyone craves and this book guides you to the path of betterment.

I have loved the works and speeches of Swami Vivekananda. And the book starts with one of his teachings.
Distractions are everywhere and the realization of a goal worth achieving requires concentration. The book talks about the importance of concentration, the balance between work and rest, and the need to have a renewed mindset.
It is an easy but powerful read for today's busy folks. The author has used small illustrations and questions to keep you engaged and that makes it all the more worthwhile. You will not feel like reading a heavy book requiring effort. Reading the book was enjoyable, useful, and definitely worth the time.
I would definitely recommend reading this book for those aspiring to be high achievers in life, no matter what the field.

'Your mind is a wonderful servant but a terrible master.'

We have never really understood the power of concentration and detachment and never bothered to understand what these terms stand for.
This short read will guide you on how to practice 'Concentration ' and 'Detachment ' to help you do your tasks easily.
To make this book worth your time and to convey his point, the author has shared practical exercises, his experiences, interesting zen stories, and a few thought-provoking lines by Swami Vivekanand.
I took my own sweet time to read this short book and try to implement some of the techniques mentioned. As the author has aptly mentioned towards the end of the book: "Book is just a spark to ignite the engine. Use that spark to take proper actions".

Happy reading!

Concentration and Detachment

The two most important things/concepts/skills required for all humanity.

All students and now with social media everyone is facing the problem of concentration. But it is beyond the normal focus we talk about.

Concentration is deeper concept which can change 360° view of life if one can grasp it as the way to live. The deepen the concentration goes the higher layers the life reveals to us.

Detachment on the other hand is super power if one can possess, can have freedom from all the mental pain. Also can perform the task better with deeper concentration.

As a student of life we can use these concepts as tools to live peaceful and successful life.
