Méirí Flanagan had lived her entire life fighting for her cruel father’s approval. A life of fighting and stealing aboard his ship, The Emer, was all she had ever known. That was until she was sent on one final mission to prove to her family that she was ruthless and vicious, a part of the crew.
All she had to do was go undercover as a noblewoman, make Rowan Connolly, the crown prince of Armea, fall in love with her, and then take the opportunity to assassinate him.
5 stars!! I was not expecting to love this book as much as I did. I was hooked from the first page. I read this book in two days. I absolutely loved every second of it. I’ve never read a book with pirates before and I thought that was really interesting. Meiri was such a wonderful character. She had a beautiful soft feminine side, but she was also so strong. I loved that. This book just made me so happy like even if there was a sad thing happening I had a hard time wiping the smile from my face. Meiri’s dynamic with her sister was incredible and loved the two of them together. I loved seeing Meiri with kids. She was so sweet and kind to them. It just made my heart so happy. I could feel her joy and happiness off the page whenever she was happy. I could feel the character’s emotions in this book strongly like it was emanating off the page into me. The author did an incredible job with that.
The main character being sent to assassinate the prince and then fall in love with the prince, like I absolutely love that concept and all of the emotion in the main character from that. It did feel a little instant-lovey like they fell in love really fast, but I didn’t mind that. One of the first times they meet they just start bantering back-and-forth and like it was so clearly both had a crush on each other. The banter in this book is so good, definitetly some of the best banter I’ve ever read. I love this couple so so so much. I justified it as like this is a romantasy fairytale. And just moved on with the story and didn’t care that it was a little insta-lovey because I was so obsessed with the two of them together that I didn’t care if it was fast and they had some really good emotional connection very early on which I really appreciate in a romance. Rowan and Meiri just made my heart melt honestly, like even thinking about this book like makes me giddy and so happy. Also, there were several balls in this book and the way this author wrote the dancing scenes, as a writer myself, kind of had my jaw on the floor because those seems really hard to write from my experience and it was done so effortlessly. It was incredible. Also, the descriptions of the main characters dresses in this book, wow, loved it!! Could totally imagine what it looks like!
It was one of those books were everything you want to happen happens, but in the best way. Like it’s not super predictable. It’s not like nothing terrible ever happens to the characters. It just wasn’t stressful like everything doesn’t utterly fall apart and I loved that. As an author myself, I don’t want everything to happen perfectly like I want them to struggle, and there was just a perfect mix of both good and bad, just very fulfilling in that way. It’s just such a heartwarming story. Ok I need to stop rambling, but just please go read it!!! It was so good!!
Content: two character has PTSD symptoms from life of the pirates, character dies of illness
Romance: a few mildly described kisses, and engagement, one character falls asleep in her love interest room but nothing happens.
This was by far my favorite read of this year! It's an incredible debut and the plot had me absolutely hooked! A. Quinn's The Map to You shows pirates as a free, spirited, mysterious, and exciting group of individuals, while this novel takes a different approach. In I Pledge My Loyalty, we see the cruelty, ruthlessness, and greed of the pirates. The romance was clean but totally swoon worthy and Prince Rowan stole the show with his sweet, fun-loving, loyal, and caring personality. I fell head over heels in love with this book couple, and it was well worth the read.
Absolutely love this book. The story and characters are extremely gripping and well written, and the way visuals are described makes it easy to picture what the author’s vision was. You can get a great feel for the emotions and the weight of the plot as well. If you like young adult romance this is a shining example!

🏴☠️~Characters~🏴☠️ (Méirí) FMC she was ok I guess she was kinda annoying sometimes anytime she was even slightly happy she would think about how she had to kill Rowan and then she would get all depressed.
(Rowan) MMC he was kinda annoying and I didn't really like him.
(Eileen) MÉIRÍ'S OLDER SISTER she was awful.
(Aoife) MÉIRÍ'S YOUNGER SISTER she was always so wide eyed and honestly quite annoying at times, she really wants to get married (she's fourteen) so if she meets a guy that she thinks is even slightly attractive she basically proposes to him *rolls eyes*. I didn't like her.
(Liam) AOIFE'S BOYFRIEND He's a guard at the palace basically all of the guards are idiots except for him. He is like Seventeen while Aoife is only fourteen so yeah *sigh* I didn't like him at all.
(Captain Kieran) MÉIRÍ'S DAD he was an awful father, he had no problem with threatening to murder his daughters I didn't like him
(Levi) MÉIRÍ'S "UNCLE" he was just annoying.
(Claire) MÉIRÍ'S "AUNT" sh was so freaking annoying anytime Méirí would slouch she would poke her with a sewing needle.
(Eilis) MÉIRÍ'S LITTLE "COUSIN" She was so CUTE!!!! I loved her!
(Levi IV) MÉIRÍ'S BABY "COUSIN" he was only like six months old so he can't talk or do much but he is a baby so I liked him.
👑~Quotes~👑 “Just keep your eyes on me, Méir.” “Will you keep yours on me?” I teased, scrunching up my nose and laughing quietly as the music began to change for us. “It would be extremely hard not to.”
“Do you want to know the other place I feel free?” he asked and I tore my eyes away from the water to see the same color in his eyes. “With you. I’ve known you for a day, but you are so unforgivably you. You just climbed a wall for the gods’ sake! When I first saw you, I could just tell that you would understand me, or that I would understand you. Like two birds trapped in a cage.”
💐~What I liked~💐 The ballroom scene,
☠️~What I disliked~☠️ The characters (except for Eilis, She was a cutie), Méirí rolled her eyes constantly, almost everything I'm so sorry. it was just so boring!
🗡️~Content/Trigger Warnings~🗡️ Death, Murder, Blood, Attempted murder, Death of parent, Characters get drunk (as young as fourteen), Attempted poisoning,
ahhhhhhh A. Quinn is soo good!! This book is amazing, and filled with such beautiful descriptive writing that it makes me want to make fan art (for context, I am a horrible artist and usually avoid it, but we will see...).
This book had me swooning all over the place, giving an amazing romance, that is just what I would want. Rowan is an amazing love interest and royal, which is refreshing in a genre that is now all over the "morally grey" love interest.
I love Meiri's character, and how the events of this book help her to find her true place, and who she truly is underneath what she was forced to be.
I love this whole trilogy, and would highly recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy, pirates, fancy royal balls with beautiful dresses and the possibility of stabbing, girls who can hold their own with a weapon, and a swoony, no-spice romance that knocks you off your feet at any turn!!
Another general series detail I loved is how the Nauvian Sea pulled them all together, but each book focused on a different corner of the sea, and a different country, and it was awesome to see how A. Quinn made different traditions for each. And the fact that they were all stand alone, while being in a series, with the little details that got pulled between the books was amazing to see!
This was a cute read! I loved the premise for it as that’s what drew me in. The romance is a little fast paced, and I wish there might have been more banter/build up or struggles rather than the seemingly perfect couple. But that said, it was a cute, relaxing, feel good book rather than constant angst and fast-paced. I liked the main female character as she could hold her own but also had a cute soft spot for children. The main male character was very witty and flirtatious and made me smile. As I said earlier, the couple did get together kind of fast which made the middle a little slow. But it added a cute fairytale vibe and was very pleasant to read. For this being the author’s first debut novel, I thought it was good! I was looking for a quick, relaxing, easy read and this was it!
Wohhh, A really great book. I found this great author while reading a Wattpad story and stumbling across a message saying they were publishing a “real” book.(;
(Pleas don’t take it so seriously wattpad books surely are books too)
The story is nice it pulls you into a happy vibe with much of love and excitement. But what I have so say is ,and that is the reason why I “only” gave 4.5/5 ⭐️ The chemistry between the two main characters ( Méirí Flanagan and Rowan Connolly) Is great but a little bit too perfect. Yes they do stumble one time but regardless of that he is just too dreamy so that it feels plain and without enough depth. But really that is the only thing I can criticize. Pleas read this and have a nice day. 👋
Let me start off by saying this: do NOT let the cover of this book dissuade you from picking it up because this was so good.!! Huge thank you to my friend Maria (@mgzgilbert ) for recommending it to me because I absolutely loved this.❤️
The characters were amazing, the setting was incredible, and once I got into it, it was so hard to put down. The entire time I was reading, I was enjoying every moment while also thinking, “When is it all going to fall apart, and how is this gonna work out?”😭🫠
The love story was so sweet and honestly believable despite the insta-love elements.! Also, this may sound odd, but the clothing descriptions in this book were amazing. I could picture everything so clearly! I also especially loved how Meiri was portrayed. I feel like so many FMCs, when they’re put in the position that she was, reject anything feminine and hate having to wear pretty dresses and other things. But I loved seeing how she did start enjoying the pretty and feminine things..and bathing🤣 anyways! Overall, this was a super sweet and fun read! Totally recommend!🥰🙌🏼
