A college computer hacker gets a strange message warning him to desist interfering with the web site he posts on. Then his parents are abducted, money is left behind but there are no ransom demands. The police have no clue as our protagonist decides to investigate himself and unleashes a series of mysteries that lead to increasingly dangerous outcomes. An enjoyable psychological thriller that builds nicely to an unexpected climax, so a three-and-a-half-star rating. With thanks to NetGalley and the author for a preview copy for review purposes.

It starts with a home invasion of sorts. The father is knocked out, the mother is tasered. Then they are taken out and thrown into the back of a van. They are gone.

Their son, Conner, was upstairs when the taking of his parents occurred. When he cautiously walked down the stairs, the man comes back into the house. Connor also tasered. Why he wasn't taken is a mystery.

The police have no leads ... no real witnesses, no ransom note found.

Not too long after, another family is targeted. It was done in the same way ... only their son was in college.

What is the connection between these two families? That's what Connor begins searching for. What he finds will forever change, not only his life, but at how he perceives his family. Connor is a hacker .. has he seen or heard something he shouldn't have?

GONE is a young adult thriller, but serves the adult population, as well. I did find it hard to fathom two teenage boys and one young teenage girl to do all the things they did. I had to take a huge bite out of credibility. The characters were deftly drawn and I did enjoy how they main characters interacted with each other.

I found some things not answered .. or addressed. The young girl does have a father .... but then he's never mentioned again. She was traveling all over the place with the teen boys ... she was never home ,... so where was her father? Again ... credibility overlooked.

Many thanks to the author / Irresistible Publishing / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Being a witness to his parents kidnapping , Connor's life changes in a few minutes. After finding out that there's no lead or any resolution to his parents disappearance , he decides to take the road of going on his own to find what happens and why nobody knows where they are.
It's a suspenseful story with some predictable twists but also with some unrealistic ones, a fast paced action and so many hidden secrets that leaves Connor wondering who were his parents actually as he discovered that nothing is as it seems or as he knew all his life.

Oh, I so wanted to love this book.

I’ve really loved every other book I’ve read by Reagan Keeter, but this one just fell flat for me. I’m not saying it was bad, at all. The book was okay. But I just could not for the life of me connect with Connor and with that it made it so much harder for me to read. I liked the mystery behind the story and it definitely helped me at certain points to want to know what was going on. I felt like I had to push myself to finish the story and once I did I didn’t feel that excitement or angst while reading and finishing the book. I just didn’t grab a hold of me like I wanted it to. This book just didn’t do it for me, and that’s okay. But it definitely could be a great read for somebody else! Sometimes some books are just not my cup of tea no matter how badly I want them to be.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

I received an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book by this author that I have read, and it did not disappoint. The book is filled with intrigue, suspense, and mystery.

The book starts off when Connor, home from college, observes his parents being kidnapped from their home. He isn't quite sure what to expect and isn't sure if the police are doing all they can to solve the mystery. With assistance from a news show, he learns that this has happened to someone else. This sets him off down a path to uncover what happened to his parents. It also teaches him that not everything is as it seems.

This book is action-packed and there are several plots throughout and they are tied together in a small way. I enjoyed the bit of computer hacking that was discussed and the characters involved. I can't say too much without giving away part of the story.

Connor's determination to uncover the truth is what keeps the story moving forward. He learns some truths that he never expected and explains what happened to his parents. There are some twists and turns that I did not expect, but once they were revealed kept me on the edge of my seat.

An enjoyable book and one you might want to read if you enjoy suspense and thrillers.  We give it 4 paws up.

I did enjoy this book even though I thought it a bit far fetched in places. This was the first book featuring Connor and I will look for the next book in the series and for other books by this author.

Not a bad book but some of it was far fetched. Occasionally a little hard to follow. Plenty of twists but just not as good as I hoped it could be.

Book Series: Connor Callahan Book 1

Rating: 4/5

Recommended For...: Mystery, thriller

Publication Date: February 1, 2021

Publisher: Irresistible Publishing

Synopsis: Home from college for the summer, Connor is upstairs, listening to his parents argue, when a windowless van pulls up on the front yard and a masked man charges into the house. He knocks out Connor's father, tasers his mother, and then, as quick as he came, he is gone.

The police quickly exhaust their leads. No ransom call comes. And Connor takes it upon himself to find his parents before it is too late. That quest, however, is complicated when he crosses paths with a group of anarchists bent on causing chaos in New York City. And their plan, Connor learns, is not only related to the abductions, it will also upend everything he thought he knew about his family.

Review: For the most part this was a good book. I really like the premise of it, I found it really intriguing. I thought that the book did good with the world building and character development as well.

However, I did feel like the book had a bit of a pacing problem. I felt like the book was way too slow for what it was and I felt like the writing got a bit wonky in the middle and I didn't find myself enjoying it towards the end.

Verdict: It was good.

Gone by Reagan Keeter is the first book in a new series. There is a lot to like about this book. There are kidnappings, computer hacking, murders, and explosions. The story starts with the main character, Connor, witnessing the kidnapping of his mother and "step-father", the only father he really remembers. He sees the kidnapper and his van but hides and then calls the police. As he waits for them to arrive Connor finds a substantial amount of money left in the living room and hides it before the police get there. As the story unfolds Connor learns more about his parents case via various sources. He eventually meets Olin and Dylan who have their own parts in the drama, become his friends and help him investigate his parents disappearance. At the same time he meets and works for a man, Austin, who is turning over a house, and keeps him company. A lot of drama and suspense. The only weakness I found were the characters who seem to react in ways that weren't realistic at times and could have used a little more development. That being said, it's a good story that answered some questions but left others to still be answered in the second of the series. I received this book as an ARC from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.

The dramatic opening set the tone for this suspense-filled story. After receiving a warning and his parents being abducted, Connor sets out to do what law enforcement fails to do and that's finding out what happened. The author takes you on several twists and turns as the mystery unfolds. I think the story moved well and the author did a good job with the plot and character development. While I could not necessarily connect with the protagonists, the author did a good job of taking us on his journey with detail. I think that maybe I am not necessarily the target audience as it seemed geared toward a bit younger audience and they may be why the story waned for me a bit at times. Also, this is not a genre that I am truly familiar with. I would still recommend this to those who enjoy psychological thrillers as I could appreciate the author's talent for tension building. I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for my honest feedback.

Gone by Reagan Keeter

After reading Reagan Keeter’s novella The Layover I was eager to read something else he had written. I was thrilled when he made me a member of his ARC team and sent me a copy of Gone. I downloaded the book on a Friday morning and did little else that day but read. I took it to bed with me with the intentions of staying awake till I finished it. Unfortunately sleep took over. BUT, as soon as I was up Saturday morning I was back to reading and shortly thereafter, completed it.
Wow! I have found a new favorite author. Mr. Keeter’s style of writing brings his characters to life. I truly got to know them through-out the book. Reading was easy. The chapters flowed smoothy. The story line made sense.
I am ready to read more of Reagan Keeter’s books. As soon as the book is out for public reading, I highly recommend you get a copy. But, be sure you have little else to do once you start it.

I really wanted to enjoy this book, for I had such high hopes. The premise was intriguing and I felt like it could have gone in so many different directions, but I was kind of let down and had to force myself to finish.

The beginning caught a little of my attention but seemed a bit on the cheesy side. Connor is home from college, in his room when he hears a bang downstairs. Upon inspection, he hears his mother freaking out and realizes that there is someone in the house and the bang was his father falling over after being whacked in the head. He was left with the dilemma of whether he should try to rescue his parents or not. Then he decides that he will but second guesses himself because what if the intruder has a gun! So what does he do??? He hides!!! WTF??? The story moves on with Connor trying to figure out the puzzle of where his parents are and if they are still alive.

I could not connect with Connor at all. He seemed so flat as a character. His actions were weird to me and I never felt his angst or anguish from the entire situation. I honestly got zero feeling from him at all.

What kept me reading was the actual mystery to what actually happened and led to the events of that day. But even that was pushing it and I really did force myself to not DNF this one.

The ending was wrapped up nicely, but there seemed to be a lot of foreshadowing, so I kind of figured it all out prior to actually reaching the end.

I hate giving bad reviews and honestly, this is not my normal genre, so maybe that is where the problem lies? If you enjoy mysteries, you may enjoy this one and should definitely give it a try but it was just meh for me.

A story about a boy witnessing his parents abduction right from his own house. His worst nightmare was happening right before his eyes. Connor, a skilled computer hacker, could just wait for the police to find his parents but he didn’t feel confident they were doing enough to find them. So he used his hacking skills to start searching for clues to his parent whereabouts. He started searching and found out hidden secrets that led him to a shocking discovery. This discovery made him dig deeper for clues until he realized he knew too much. A mystery that kept me guessing until the very end. The tension the author built up had me holding my breath at times and kept me turning the pages with anticipation.

GONE is a thriller fiction written about how Connor does everything he can to find his abducted parents. Although police have been doing all they can, Connor finds himself searching for his parents, who have been taken.
I personally liked how Connors’s age and skills meshed with the storyline. His hacking skills really came in handy. The more Connor succeeds, the more secrets are revealed, enticing an epic adventure and guessing game journey.

This is the first book of its series, and so I was hoping to read a lot of foundational work and background storylines. I wasn’t disappointed and look forward to reading more from this author.

I recommend this book to fiction readers and those who like Crime thrillers.

This is a fast pace keep you going thriller. Conner is home from college for the summer and wishing he hadn't come home due to his parents fighting. He notices a van pull up outside and then he hears a disturbance from downstairs. When he finally gets downstairs a strange man is carrying his mother out the door. This starts the nightmare of what has happened to his parents and what does this have to do with a kidnapping of another couple. Connor with the other couples son, Olin try to track down who and why their parents were taken. The answers are surprising

Connor's parents are kidnapped right in front of him and the police have no clues. It's up to Connor to figure out what has happened to his parents. Along the way he finds another boy who parents have also been kidnapped. They work together trying to find out what happened. With the help of a young hacker can they solve this mystery and get any of the parents back before it's too late? Well written with good characters that you are rooting for, this was an enjoyable read that I didn't want to put down until I finished. I received an ARC.

A twisted tale about a kidnapping, a murder, and a discovery. Connor's parents are kidnapped, and when the police seem to be giving up on the case, he won't. He finds out another couple were also kidnapped, and works with their son to try and find answers.
Meanwhile a group of anarchists are attempting to cause havoc in New York City, and Connor is caught in the midst of a bombing.
Very interesting events and disclosures make this a hard to put down book which really is a good read!

This book for me didn't work as I felt as though I was reading a book that would have suited possibly a teenage generation. I didn't enjoy Connor's character and I felt as though the book wasn't gritty enough. I did want to know what happened so continued reading to find out but didn't really enjoy it as much as I hoped I would from the synopsis.

I had no idea what I was getting into with this book. Not my normal. But absolutely loved the book. New wave intrigue with a young computer sleuth that wove through a mystery involving his parents. Great character development and it kept me interested straight through to the end. Now looking forward to the next chapter in our young mans life.

I read Gone with anticipation of enjoying another awesome tale of suspenseful thrills by Reagan Keeter. I was somewhat disappointed.
The premise of this novel is excellent. College student son at home. Connor is an amateur hacker who targets a conspiracy theory website with a warning to site visitors not to fall for the lies. He in turn is hacked with a cryptic message that means nothing to him.
A break in to the family home occurs shortly thereafter. His parents are kidnapped.
From this point, the story line becomes confusing and hard to follow. I almost gave up but out of respect for the author's obvious talent, I pushed on.
I get the impression this is book 1 and I hope book 2 will follow a more cohesive path. And answer some of the questions left by the improbable ending.

Very good and definitely will read more from this author.
