„We’re playing with fire. You know what they say about playing with fire—you’ll get burned.“

first of all i don't really have a problem with this book except that it's boring, i really tried but for me it's not worth pushing through a book that i already know won't get any better and i will not end up loving it. also where is the passion between the characters? there's nothing...absolutely nothing, they're just bland.

💌- thank you to the author for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

I was so pleasantly surprised by this book! This book had a lot of good elements in it! Enemies to lovers, forced proximity, hurt/comfort, instalove and suspense.

From the ripe old age of 8 Xander and Clarke have hated each others guts and been mortal enemies. Who knew a game of Red Light, Green Light could be the catalyst for a long running feud. Everything in their life was a competition except one thing. Women. Xander was gay and Clarke was not. Their mothers always knew their sons would never be friends but that didn’t stop them from being best friends.

Xander grew up in a home where his mother loved him unconditionally and his father controlled his every movement. His father cared about nothing but money, status and screwing people over and that included family.

Clarke grew up in a loving home with not much to spare financially which is why he worked so hard to be the best so he could have more than his parents had since he had bore witness to their struggles.

Both men competed for everything each with different reasons but still needing to be the best. When they wind up working in the same law firm they are paired up for a weekend retreat where the weather, a car crash, illness and being stranded seem to turn the tides. But is it real or is it because of their dire situation? That will be the beginning of their story.

You meet these men as boys and watch them grow up and you become totally invested in seeing where this will go. I can honestly say I very much enjoyed reading this. There were a few plot twists in there that I didn’t see coming but totally fit the story. It was put together very well. You can’t help but love them seeing them beyond the mortal enemies they show the world.

First off, I want to thank the author, Meadow Jones, and Indie Author Creative for this ARC copy!

“A Thin Line Between Love and Hate” is the story of Xander and Clark. The two have been enemies since a game of Red Light/Green Light back in third grade. They both have a competitive streak and always trying to one up each other. This feud continues through college, law school, and present day with them both working at the same firm. But when a work trip in the middle of a snow storm leaves them stranded in a cabin, they soon realize just how fine of a line there is between love and hate.

I really enjoyed the first 30% of the book and the banter between the characters growing up. However, I didn’t feel much tension between Xander and Clark like I do with other enemies to lovers books I’ve read. And once they get together while stuck in a cabin, their entire personality has changed. All of sudden their 20 year feud is gone, and they’re in love. On top of that, the major events that take place after they get together (especially around the 90% mark) is so random that I feel like the book would’ve been much better without it. I really wanted to like this book because I love the enemies to lovers trope, but this book got boring fast and made it so hard to connect with the characters.

I love Meadow Jones, In the Darkness & In the Aftermath are my two favourites of hers. I must have read them half a dozen times so if you haven't yet.. Go!

A thin line between Love & Hate is the story of Xander & Clark who become enemy's at age eight, on Clark's first day at a new school, mostly because Xander is extremely competitive and it brings out the worst in the both of them.
So they become enemy's for the next 20 years!
They somehow manage to go to all the same schools and even land the same job.
It's on the job they are sent on a retreat and get stranded and have to find shelter and warmth.
It's from this point on the romance begins as they realise they may have misjudged each other their whole lives.
Other than a few speedbumps they are pretty much in love and together from this point. They just have to work out the ins and outs of their lives. And they make a solid couple.
It's a solid 4* read. My only issue was it is so soppy. I love a bit a romance but this takes it to another level, almost speaking poetry to one another but I know others will love it.

I loved the story, but not the delivery. There were crucial events for the story that had the potential to turn the book into something so good, but they were neglected and glossed over. Especially characters' behavior around the tragic deaths of their parents. It bordered with inadequate.
And there were situations like the car accident in the snow and after that one of the characters almost dying of hypothermia(at least that's what I've gathered from the vague explanation). I had to go back and read again because I was like, "What the hell happened? Why is the car about to crush them?" And even after the second and third time reading it, I didn't get it.
English is not my native language, and I don't claim to be an expert, but even to me, the writing seemed off. Probably because of a lack of good editing.
I really loved the characters, and probably that's the only reason I was able to finish the book. It really has a potential, but poorly written.
The whole experience left me sad because it could have been incredible.

I really loved the idea of this book. I love everything MM, and enemies to lovers is one of my favourite tropes.

The beginning of the book set the scene of a pretty much giant pissing contest between two young boys, and as they turn into men it just continues.

But unfortunately, by the end of the book I had no idea how we got where we did. It felt like their passion was forced and it felt like their personalities shifted when the “lovers” can of worms was opened.

I expect enemies to have a slow burn into their love affair but this was just thrown at the wall and for me, it didn’t stick.

Some of the wording throughout the more intimate scenes felt like that of a married couple, not two young men who have had a deep burning hatred/ competitive nature for over 20 years. It needed more PASSION from the enemies front for me.

The first half of the book was a hit, the second half was not so much.

**Note: I've read some of the author's other MM books previously that I enjoyed more than this**

Xander and Clark have been sworn enemies since they were 8 years old and this wildly continues all though elementary, middle school, high school and also college. They were always in constant competition with each other for every type of event/project, etc. Fast forward to both of them getting a job at the same attorney's office and STILL having it out for each other (the longest foreplay to date LOL) when they both wind up in a terrible survival situation involving their car and the weather, it seems like a rubber band snaps and they both start feeling lust instead of hate.

The story was just okay for me, nothing really jumping out and giving any type of super wow factor.

This book was ok. The beginning was good. It gave a good back story to the Xander and Clark. It starts when they meet in 3rd grade and follows them through college, showing thier rivalry. However the build up fell a little flat by the time they actually got together. They are in a forced proximity situation and they were just tolerating eachother one minute and the next they were in love. It gets a little repetitive and kind of slow afterwards. There were also some cringe/second hand embarrassment moments that made me feel a little awkward reading it. It was a struggle to keep reading it to the end because it was a little boring/slow.

Xander and Clark have been enemies since third grade. Each year together makes them more competitive and grows their animosity while fate continues to put them in each other's way. On a work trip, they are in an accident and snowed in together. That's where it all changes. Filled with steamy times, their years of hate become no so instant love. Their is a lot of angst in the book and they don't always handle it correctly. They both mature beautifully and "take charge of the company" Xander turns me on! An enjoyable book that covers years of their personal history. I received a copy of this book through Indie Author Creative and this is my voluntary opinion.

“A Thin Line Between Love & Hate” by Meadow Jones was my first by this either! The extreme hate to love trope had me hooked from the very start! There’s nothing like a true enemies to lovers story! This book was full of back and forth, push and pull, and extreme chemistry. Xander and Clark have been sworn enemies their whole lives and of course a case of forced proximity brings them together! This was a quick read full of a lot of love between this couple that was so sweet it made my teeth hurt. I recommend this book to all those MM romance readers who love an enemies to lovers with some good angst and steam!

The first half of this book is pretty good as it sets the tone and tells the backstory of Clark and Xander. You can feel how much the two characters hate each other. Once they get together I feel like the book is slow going with a lot of the same things happening over and over. There's a few twists that happen in the last 20pg which felt unnecessary and some of the grammar/editing needs to be fixed before publishing.

The writing at parts fell a bit flat for me, especially at the start. It felt like the characters were a bit two-dimensional. It's probably because of the fast pace of the opening chapters trying to introduce us to two characters that hated each other.

However, as the story progressed it was addressed and I really started to enjoy the characters and the plot of the story. I mean who doesn't enjoy "cuddling to save our lives" as the perfect segway in enemies to lovers?

A relatively quick read that I enjoyed in the end.

This was my first book by Meadow Jones and it didn't disappoint AT ALL!!! The dynamic between Xan & Clark from the beginning to end was so real and captivating. Despite his asshole-ish ways Xan was my favorite.💜 He had to face and go through so much and he wormed into my 💜. Clark is this overall family guy and because of it, He was exactly what Xan needed.
I hope and can't wait to have more from these characters and others that we met throughout this story.

Woooow

After 20 years of hating each other, 20 years of making each other life a nightmare, one event put their lives in danger and they discover that between hate and love there is only a thin line. Just wooow, after soo much hate, their love was so huge that together they were unstoppable. Their romance was hot, beautiful and forever!!!! One of the best enemies to lovers story I have read.

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Clark and Xander are clearly meant for each other despite their deep routed hatred of one another.
I like that we got a detailed back story as to why they hated each other, but the universe just kept throwing them together 😂
Overall it’s a good story, I enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed this story about Chase and Xander. Twenty years is probably one of the longest feuds I have ever read about, but it was worth it to get to their turning point. Gotta love how a little forced proximity can drastically change a relationship!.

Enjoyed this a lot!

Wow! This story had great world building. I felt like I was taken along for the ride from the MC’s first meeting as children and watched how their animosity intensified till in current times how it finally changed to them being lovers. And this book certainly had some twists, check the trigger warnings. I enjoyed this book immensely! Nicely Done!

After 20 years of hatred and constant competition, I think this is the longest foreplay I’ve read in a while 😅

At 8 years old Xander and Clark decided they hated each other. All through primary and high school they competed in all things, academic and sports. The only thing they didn’t compete in… Xander liked guys, Clark liked girls. After years of rivalry, valedictorian was going to finally show who was better… wanna guess as to who won that comp 😏

Just as Clark thought he’d finally get a break at college, Xander decides to disregard his father’s first preference and attend the same college as Clark, much to his annoyance. Both as Poli-sci majors, then as law students, they’re ongoing hatred and competition only grows as the years continue.

After graduation they both land positions at the same law firm, however they are finally separated into different areas of law. Despite the degree of separation, their feud continues.

Fast forward to their company’s annual retreat, in an effort to blend the company, Xan and Clark are paired up to travel and work together whilst away. After a late start, some horrific weather, a car crash and hidden hut in the woods retreat, the two finally are forced to face one another and what’s really between them… cause as they say, there’s a thin like between love and hate 😏

The storyline has some twists and turns I didn’t see coming which I always love! There is definitely some cliché dialogue in this book and a few times where I got a little second hand embarrassment, however I feel it kinda worked towards the overall vibe of this book. Xan and Clark definitely took the enemies to lovers trope and made it their entire story but who doesn’t love a good enemies to lovers story 😉

* I receive’d this book as an ARC and above is my honest review *
