Teeth & Crumpets: a Florilegium

Rate this book
Florilegium: "a collection of literary extracts; an anthology."

There are twenty-eight teeth in the adult human mouth, absent wisdom teeth.

In this collection, there are twenty-eight stories. Similarly, absent any wisdom. All, at least vaguely, toothy.

This is an absolute gem of an anthology. It's quirky and surprising, with humourous narrative voices wrapped around some genuinely dark shocks.
The stories are linked by a theme of teeth being mentioned in each tale, from the prettiness of a smile being the basis of a truly toxic relationship, to food being stuck between teeth forming the key part of a first date.
As a writer it was inspiring and joyous to see Joel Shoemaker having such fun with his theme and creating original story after original story.

This book definitely makes you show your teeth as you smile at each one. This book couldn't be more enjoyable. Each story is short enough to read over a coffee. Perfect to leave by your comfy chair.
Some favourites are: the bus, strategems, and what i remember. (warning: the last brought tears to my eyes, it's very emotional)

Buy the book, enjoy the stories and see why you'll still be thinking about some of them weeks later.

I don't think this book was for me, I was not the target audience. So I would prefer not to rate it. It was unique.
