Burn for Jack

Don’t go near the pumpkin patch on Halloween night…

Jack Calloway is the pumpkin-headed boogeyman of Hallow Hill. As the legend goes, he was a man of wicked tastes, devilish allure, and had a knack for dark magic. He and his lover—my ancestor—were tried as witches and burned at the stake at the edge of Hallow Hill’s pumpkin patch.

Some say he made a deal with the devil to spare his lover’s soul and haunts the pumpkin patch to this day, waiting for her return.

“Don’t go near the pumpkin patch on Halloween,” they’ve always warned the women in my family. “Jack might get you.”
Too bad I don’t listen because I have to find out the hard way that ghost stories exist for a reason. And in Jack’s flames, I just might become one.

Burn for Jack is a plot-light Halloween-themed PNR novella featuring a pumpkin-headed monster with a wicked thirst for our heroine. This story includes dark themes such as bondage, violence, gore, dubious consent, bullying, and murder.

This one started nicely, I was expecting an OK story, but it was very disappointing.
Although is a short story (93 pages), it became boring very quickly.

Since this one doesn't have description, it's kinda like this:

Perfect bingeable and short spooky read (honestly, even wish it was longer)!
Picked it up, read it in one sitting and was absolutely unable to put it down!
I was hooked from the very start! The setting was captivating (Halloweenesque)!

"Burn for Jack" is a short, spooky and dark novella about a witch, a monster who longs to claim her soul and a curse running through their family bloodlines.
I was surprised by how fantastically written it was (especially for this genre of spicy books)!!
Beside the plot that was exactly what I was looking for, the erudite vocabulary, beautiful dialogues and descriptions immensely ameliorated the reading experience.
There wasn't only steamy content, but we also received some backstories about the curse and spell that was deeply engraved into the female main character's family bloodline and her dealing with societal relationships in her smaller town (aka bullying).

The cherry on top is definitely the excellent "Who did this to you"? content and the main male character's mindset that he'll kill anyone who hurts his second half. ;))
(Perfectly normal every day occurrence, right? Yeah, thought so too^^)

P.S. This book is not for everyone, so definitely check out the trigger warnings.
(Although, I must add as a side note, that those trigger warning worthy contents are not written in a very graphic manner).

3.5 stars. This is a well done Halloween tale. Almost like a filthy version of Charlie Brown and The Great Pumpkin. The characters, aside from Ada and Jack, were very superficial, lacking some needed depth. But they all served their purposes, leading up to what we all know based on the book’s title…supernatural sex. And I enjoyed how much of that aforementioned supernatural element was used during the sex between Ada and Jack. So many times I’ve read similar stories where creatures just have very bland, human-like sexual experiences. Nikki St Crowe and Regine Abel broke that mold. And Aiden Pierce is well on her way to that caliber. So the bedroom, or should I say cornfield, escapades were a big highlight, staying sexy, but never becoming trashy. And the lore of Jack and Ada’s ancestors were a close second. Great history and lead up to the big encounter, happening about halfway in. My biggest critiques here just revolve around some further development to the side characters and even a better introduction to the story. It just jumped in, and I felt like it threw the pace off a little, as opposed to having a chapter or two start the book off. This was my first Aiden Pierce experience and I enjoyed it quite a bit.

BEWARE: Stay away from the pumpkin patch on Halloween!!

This was a short and steamy Halloween tale. This was my very first all-encompassing monster romance LOL, so it was quite informative! This was a lot of fun and the perfect way to wrap up Spooky Season!

5⭐️ smutty, Halloween themed monster romance set in Salem.

There’s even vine fucking to make it extra special.

The authors note in the beginning says: “If you’re looking for a quick spooky read about our heroine getting dicked down by a pumpkin-head monster in a pumpkin patch, then read on…”

Like with anything, I would read trigger warnings first, there were several instances of her being man handled by her bullies and almost assaulted several times. Some serious bullying happens before she gets saved my Jack.

It of course has a happy ending, and Jack is super loving, adorable, and possessive with her. 10/10.

5 for spice as well because you can’t get f-ed by vines and be anything less than a 5 on the spicy scale.

This is such a fun and dark novella for spooky season! I loved the lore behind the town and the legend of Jack. The heroine was likable, even if her reason for showing up at the pumpkin patch on Halloween when it was clearly a trap laid out for her was a little groan-worthy. I liked that she didn’t back down though!
This book is not for everyone, so heed the trigger warnings.

I wanna make this fun and short. Our girl Ada hates her town because they think she's a witch from her families history. So she's bullied this year it goes far when some of the bullies chase/lock her up, so a demon/ghost story comes to fk her or kill her. Little did they know that demon had been waiting ages for her. Jack is going to show Ada his talents and make sure no one tries anything with her. He also kills a few people who bullied her.

*3.5

i stepped a bit out of my comfort zone and tried reading this monster smut novella since it was so short and i enjoyed it!

i really found myself rooting for Ada and Jack! they were the definition of “meant to be” lol. it’s safe to say i absolutely disliked Lucas and the whole group who got Ada to the pumpkin patch where it all took place. they were all such bullies, but i loved how Ada handled herself. she never let them get under her skin and actually stood up for herself.
also Jack’s devotion to Ada was EVERYTHINGGG.

the writing was absolutely beautiful at some parts. it was a smut book, but it wasn’t, like, written in a filthy way. it was more lyrical? if that makes any sense. 😂

the plot was also really well done. it wasn’t only sex on the pages, but we actually got this story/legend going on about the mysterious Jack Calloway that was haunting the pumpkin patch, waiting for his his lover to return. it was witchy, halloween-y, demonic, sexy and everything it needed to be. however, the reason why i didn’t give it 5 stars was the vines… idk maybe it’s just me, but it just rubs me the wrong way imagining it lmaoo.
this wasn’t my all time favourite, but it was definitely entertaining and a fun book to read during this creepy season! 🎃

Ada f*ucked a pumpkin head and liked it.

Burn for Jack was entirely ridiculous and I wanted an epilogue but for what it was - monster smut - I can't complain. Ada comes from a line of witches and has been bullied most of her life for it. When she is placed in a stockade by a group hoping to see Jack the ghost come and destroy her, she gets WAY more than she bargained for.

Jack has waited a very long time for his long lost love's soul to return to him and now that she finally has he will exact revenge on those that hurt her and hopefully take her with him to Hell to live happily ever after!

Violent, steamy, and dark, Burn for Jack was an entertaining and smutty read.

“Forever mine, wild vixen, her hair as bright as fire.
Forever mine, her sinful figure, forever my desire.
Forever mine, her wicked mouth, bold and bravely brash.
Forever mine, forevermore, through dust and darkest ash.”

Perfect little bingeable spooky read!

Burn for Jack is a short, dark, and spooky read about a witch, a curse, and the pumpkin headed monster longing to claim her soul. The smut is honestly pretty tame for Aiden, BUUUUTTTT still delicious all the same.

If you’re looking for something short, spooky and dark for a Halloween read this is a good pick. I’m surprised by how difficult it has been to locate something in this niche that’s worth reading. I’ve come across many that tried but they were all so comically terrible I couldn’t get past a few pages.

I don’t think I’ve read anything by this author before but I enjoyed her writing style. I don’t get hung up on typos, misspellings or grammatical errors when I’m reading but I know some readers do, I didn’t see any of those things while reading.

This is only 93 pages so it’s a quick read. I’d have probably bumped the rating up to 4 stars but the first part of the story drags with the drawn out bullying scenes. It came for a monster story not a sad overgrown bully and his flock of following sheep making asses of themselves. I think if this part had been condensed more and we’d gotten to the good stuff quicker it’d have been a smoother read.

I also strongly felt that after being terrorized and nearly raped it felt completely inauthentic and unrealistic for her to so calmly and eloquently relay the story of Jack to the people who’d humiliated her while she was locked into a stockade for their amusement. A stockade so conveniently placed in a pumpkin patch. That seemed like a bizarre place to put a stockade. I’ll buy a pumpkin headed devil coming to claim the soul of his lost love but my disbelief refused to suspend for this.

The smutty parts come in on the later side in the story. It’s a short read though so it doesn’t really feel slow. It’s not the spiciest smut but it was far from vanilla and it was well written. It definitely hit all the right spots.

So this is on the darker side. I think the bullying was so drawn out in the beginning so you are on board with Jack killing her bullies. I was glad that there was comeuppance for the bullies but the balance was off. It would have made it longer and required some more smutty scenes but to balance out the longer bully intro the revenge for the bullying should have been more drawn out too. I’d have preferred seeing them be scared and terrorized by the monster they helped summon before he ended them.

“There’s no God here, witch. He forsook both of us long ago. If you wish to scream a name other than mine, cry out to the devil. He’s the only one who has looked upon our union and smiled.”

Looking for your next Halloween binge read? Look no further. This one really exceeded my expectations by a long shot. The writing was very well done and the spice was definitely spicin'. The family curse and legend that was the heart of the story was done wonderfully well and the memories that came to surface from the past lives of Adaline was a bonus and nice added touch!

Burn for Jack follows Ada and her "friends." These friends are more like bullies though. They have a very cruel plan to go through with that Ada has no clue whatsoever of. When they all make it to the pumpkin patch where the events of the legend of Ada's ancestors and the famous "Jack" all took place, Ada quickly learns that she most likely won't be making it out of there alive. From here things get really interesting when we learn that Ada is immune to fire.

This story was paced nicely and the details were spot on making the story flow seamlessly. When Jack made his appearance in the story it was game over for me. HOLY F.

As Aiden states herself:
"If you’re looking for a quick and spooky read about our heroine getting dicked down by a pumpkin-headed monster in a pumpkin patch, then read on…"

Sound like your next ideal smutty halloween read? Go give it a whirl.

They'd always said I worshiped the devil. But no. It was her I worshiped.

4/5 3/5 🌶️

This definitely was an over-the-top book. An insane monster romance short story with bloody scenes, spicy encounters, intriguing characters and a very monstrous mmc. I didn't expect how sweet and romantic this was.

Even though Jack, mmc, did some very unhinged things - he is a man with a pumpkin head after all- , he was so gentle with the fmc, Ada. I actually really liked him.

Ada was a sassy heroine, who had been bullied her whole life. Her backstory was a bit cliché but it didn't make the plot any boring.

I expected this to only be unhinged with monstrous spice but it surprised me with the nice build-up and the gentleness between these two.

Did I like it? Yes
Would I reread it? Hmm. Maybe?

This was such a delicious dark, quick, smutty read! 10/10 a perfect read for the upcoming season.

🎃”Until she met Jack Calloway, a sinfully handsome man who could charm the pants off a Catholic priest if he had half a mind to.”

🎃 “Tell me who hurt you, little one. I’ll spill their blood and send their soul to Satan in your honor. I’ll rip out his heart and give it to you, my heart’s flame.”

🎃”Here I was in the middle of a pumpkin patch, buck ass naked, locked in medieval fucking stockades with a very aroused man with a jack-o'-lantern head, fucking my brains out with his magical pumpkin vines.”

🎃”They’d always said I worshipped the devil. But no. It was her I worshipped.”

🎃”I couldn’t put words to how damn good she tasted. Like Heaven. Like Hell. Like eternal damnation and salvation at the same time.”

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Ada was often TSTL during her interactions with Lucas, but also I understood why. A bully and would-be r*pist to how dangerous he ended up being was a leap in her mind. Jack was all kinds of monstrous and became Ada’s avenging angel. Without the angel aspect. They had both been through it and their creepy little HEA fit the story well.

Spice: 4/5

Triggers: attempted sexual assault, bullying, gore/violence, breath play, blood play, bondage, murder, discussion of attempted SA of FMC while she was a minor, mentions of mother being physically abused while working as sex worker
