She's all I've dreamed of for years, but she's my employee...and around her, I turn into a stuttering teenage boy.

We’ve been dancing around each other for years. It’s not a dance I’m proud of. The day we met, I fell out of my chair. Now, we’re stuck in this repeating pattern: she corners me, I freeze then I bolt. I’m 33 years old and I should be able to handle a woman better than this.

But she’s not just any woman. She’s tough, smart, and her curves make my legs numb.

Oh yeah, she’s also my employee.

But when I finally work up the nerve to talk to her, I stick my foot in my mouth. Then that night, when her world is touched by violence, I firmly lodge my foot all the way into my throat.

Now I’ll do anything to fix what I’ve broken. I’m working to contain the aftermath of that night, and I have a plan to woo her (yes, I said woo). And my plan was working. Slowly, steadily, she was coming to me.

Then my brothers decided to ‘help’ us along and now we’re stranded at a tiny motel in the middle of nowhere, in a snowstorm.

And there’s only one bed.

When we get out of here, I’m going to murder my brothers. Then I’m going to make damn sure the threats against her are handled. Because even though I’m a computer geek, I am more than capable of being the man she needs.

I just hope I don’t run out of time before I can show her.

So apparently, not everyone has entire worlds and a whole cast of made up characters living in their head.

I bought my first book on how to write romance fifteen years ago.

And did absolutely nothing with it.

Until one day, tired of all my wishing and doubting, I sat down and started writing. The plan was to prove to myself that I sucked.

Turns out, not only do I not suck, I tell really great stories.

And those people who live in my head? They’ve been desperate to get out.

I am an adoptive and foster mom. I have a soft spot in my heart for kids from tough places.

I finished it so 2 stars. I'm not a fan of meddling and "the end justifies the means" so the fact that they were manipulated by everyone to be forced together is irksome.

The story is kinda all over the place - her club, the motel in the snow, Vegas, their work. Cara readily admits that if a guy acted like she did, they'd be reported to HR - I don't like hypocrites.

Neither character are likeable. I find it sad that the series is body positive to the women but this guy felt ther only way to build confidence and get the girl was to change his body.

Okay, so this was not quite what I expected, and yet it was? It took me weeks to finish this book when her first 3 books were read in a matter of days.
Let me explain. Most of the books so far have a current running theme... there is trauma, emotional, physical, or mental, but both characters are dealing with it, which is fine. However, in Cara & Declan's story... there was a world of misunderstanding for 3 years? Like, come on...it takes a significant event that involves Cara for Declan to get over his shyness? And to top it off, I really didn't like Cara all that much. She was blowing hot and cold towards him, and it was confusing the heck out of me. The story, at times, was repetitive and disjointed. Now I did like reading about the ways they finally get it together, but yeah, it was a slow burn with all the hotness that led up to it finally ending with a HFN. I love the Brash Brothers, and I can't wait to read Zach and Jonas's story, but this one didn't really feel fleshed out to me, like the others. 3 solid stars.

I wanted to love this. I didn't. It was a slog right through the HEA end.

Way, way, way too much miscommunication trope usage. Way, way, way too much repetition of dialogue. If not for these two elements, there would be no story.

The female lead was an odd mish-mash of characteristics. She's super independent and very tuned into ensuring female respect. Cinversely, she harasses her love interest AT WORK for three years, including frequent use of her hands and body parts. I get this series includes a relaxed work atmosphere, but if the tables were turned, it would be seriously creeptastic in any way. As it was, I found her harassment of the make lead more than creepy.

The male lead is an IT guru and supposedly lacking in social skills. Yet he's also a Jedi master at kicking ass, negotiating contracts, and all forms of digging up dirt on bad folks. I got some whiplash from the conflicting characteristics of these two. It was difficult to figure out why they were attracted to each other, so eventually, I stopped.

This book dragged on like a boring conversation with a relative that repeats themselves a lot. We all have one. You love the hell out of them, but you find yourself wishing for a rescue to stop the cycle. That describes my feelings while slogging through this non-story.

The ending was also superheavy-handedd. Sure, I can believe a corrupt DA. I've even known a couple of those IRL. But the physical smackfown was incredibly unbelievable and unnecessary to the story. For an IT genius and his super smart brothers, it just didn't play into a realistic storyline.

Lastly, the lack of sex until 85% was not a sexy tease but a ridiculous frustration.

This book was a real disappointment.

Look if you’ve read one Brash Brothers book you’ve kinda read them all. 😅 it’s a very similar plot to all the others, but like the others it’s an easy read and I definitely love the dynamic between the brothers.

Ok, out of all the brothers, so far - Declan is my favorite. I love that he's got an inner geek that acts up making this huge, muscular dude so awkward at times. Once again I found myself dragging my read because the conversations the leads are having in these book are ALL THE SAME! I get that these guys are traumatized by their past, I get that these women are/were strong, independent women who want to fix things themselves. What's getting boring is that all the couples are having the exact same conversations over and over again. They talk about their feelings but the other doesn't believe it. They are constantly - and I mean CONSTANTLY - misinterpreting the others words, actions, and looks. I find myself skimming through a lot of the dialogue in about 50% of the books. I will say, in this book, because of the situation they're put in, there's a lot less tiptoeing about their feelings. They try a more direct approach.

The miscommunication trope is so strong. Tstl strong. Ratings are just for me, if miscommunication doesn’t piss you off this may be fine for you and you can rate it higher. But my god. These two are big dum dums until the very last second.

I absolutely love Declan! He and Cara have been in love, and dancing around each other for years at the office. He’s a computer guy and heads up the IT department, she’s his brother’s PA. For the last 3 years, Dec has messed with her computer every day so he had an excuse to see her. She’s been flirting with him constantly for years, but he’s panicked and run from her every time. I find it really sad that Dec feels he isn’t good enough for Cara, and makes changes to himself physically in the hopes of being more attractive and “worthy” of Cara - of course, not knowing that his feelings toward her are reciprocated. However, after Cara and her sister go through a traumatic event Dec says the wrong thing to her in the ER and their relationship completely breaks down. Colton plans to force them to make up, and maybe admit their feelings for each other by making them take a different plane to his wedding. They end up stranded in a snowstorm and manage to snag the last room at a motel. There’s only one bed (*gasp* oh no 😏). Things are a bit rocky at first, but eventually they make up and sort through their feelings, Declan beats up 2 guys, they make it to vegas, mess with Colton as revenge for his plotting, and everything works out!
Great read, I adore Declan as a character, will continue to devour the Brash Brothers series!

I love this series... but this is my least favorite of the bunch so far.

By the end of this book, Declan and Cara still are struggling to trust each other.

I adore the brothers and surrounding characters but hated the tension in this book that was built around Declan being a coward and a jerk. He runs away from Cara constantly in the beginning because she freaks him out even though he adores her. And, she's always chasing him.

This particular story felt disjointed. But, I love the people around them so much I could not resist.

Cara has me out her questioning whether I should try and fight Declan for her! Her confidence, her sass, her wardrobe - she's everything.

And sweet shy Declan doesn't know what to do with her.

Thanks to the meddling of his brothers, and a freakish snowstorm - we get forced proximity and ONE BED 🙌🙌🙌 And then we get to see another side of Declan when he flips on his protective mode at the motel and takes on some slimy douchebags. I'm still fanning myself!

My least favorite because both Declan and Cara kept screwing up because they WOULDN'T COMMUNICATE! Just wish they'd have talked to each other and it would have been solved and and HEA much sooner. But otherwise a good read. Looking forward to Zach and Maya's book for sure

Declan
Brash Brothers #4
Declan and Cara

3.5 Stars
I loved the first three books in this series. This one I struggled to get through.
I love this found family these brothers have created. I loved Declan. Cara on the other hand I really could not stand.

Declan is probably the sweetest of the brothers. He’s shy, nerdy and awkward. Loves his computers, his video games and action figures. He knows what he is, and with the help of his brothers, he’s trying to change, to grow up. He’s hit the gym and bulked up with Colton. Zach has been taking him to bars trying to help him learn how to talk to women. All in the hope of being able to finally speak to his brother Ransom’s assistant, Cara.
Cara is a strong, independent man eater. Takes no B.S. from anyone. She’s been caring for her younger sister since the death of their parents. She cut her college studies short in order to work to provide for the two of them. Working her way up in business, she’s landed a dream job working for the Brash corporation. She’s learned to use all of her assets to her advantage. She’s good at her job, runs her own business on the side, very smart, but relies on her sex appeal to get what she wants. She has secretly carried a crush for Declan since she first met him.
A quick trip to Vegas for a wedding turns into Dec and Caras worst nightmare. With the “help” of a few of the brothers, they miss their flight, end up stranded in a tiny motel room during an unexpected blizzard.
It accomplishes what they intended, it gets the two of them talking. They get to know each other, they have a few “dates” and overall enjoy their little winter wonderland bubble. Until reality comes crashing back in.
I loved Declan. He was enjoyably nerdy. Shy and awkward, he’s desperately afraid of saying or doing the wrong thing. But for Cara he tries.
I do love when these brothers and their women all get together. It’s wild, loud, usually way over the top, and absolutely hilarious.
I really didn’t like Cara. I had a hard time reading knowing she was part of the story. She was so hot and cold. Extremely rude when it suited her and then loving to get what she wanted. Ticked off when things don’t go her way, she lashes out and spews hateful things at whoever is near.
They have a few obstacles to overcome but eventually everything works out and they settle into a happy place.
Dual points of view, no cheating.
Zach’s book is up next, and it looks like he’s got his hands full.

DNF’d at 65% is turned out that FMC is “not like the other girls”

“I have never been with anyone with her kind of appeal. Everyone looks at her. Even toned down in her short, tight pants, she’s stunning. All the men look and admire, and so do the women, though not the same way. Some of the women’s eyes are warm, others not as much. It took me a while to figure it out. The ones who’d look us up and down, looking kinda confused, were the skinny bleached ones. It’s like they can’t figure out why she’d ever date me.”

A book can’t be both body positive and hate skinny blonde women. And the book was a little too corny to put up with this kind of stuff.

Lacking hot sexy scenes

I bought the entire series. I like the series. It deals with a lot of issues between the main characters and it’s well plotted out. I wish the author would also make a point of describing the characters look like more than once. There are so many brothers and it’s hard to keep them all straight in looks. I have always been one to love the more detailed s*x scenes. This author kind of talks a little about them, glosses over the good details, some are too vague, and it’s so d*mn frustrating. You shouldn’t allude to their being high tension between the main characters and then not deliver on drawn out, detailed s*x.

TW: corruption, death of parents (historic), domestic violence, abandonment of a child (historic)

I really liked Declan and Cara's story. It runs somewhat concurrently to Colton's book, so it was interesting to see how the two intersected and the additional nuance you get from having different POVs of the same situation. I laughed, I cried, I had all the feels. I'm continuing to fall further in love with Ransom, aka papa bear, and Jonas. I really love how the author fleshes out the other brothers and other side characters, even though they're not the focus.

What this book suffers from is the stupid can't communicate trope. Like for three years, neither one of them was able to verbally express how they felt about the other one. Which makes a little more sense for Declan, since he gets tongue-tied around Cara, but makes absolutely no sense for Cara, since she's usually a spitfire. Like just verbally telling him that she likes him would have made all the difference in the world to his feelings of self-worth and being good enough to date her, without having to change almost everything about himself physically. Also, I'm super happy that the author writes so many bigger women, but what's wrong with making a non-muscular, long-haired nerd the hero? Like why did the author feel it was necessary to change his whole body to make him worthy of having a love interest? Also, as a confident gamer girl, I have an issue with the characterization of his former gamer girlfriends.

The other issue that I see is that the book doesn't really address all the underlying issues that the couple is facing.

I also don't like that

I honestly don’t know how Jenna Myles does it. I was laughing one minute and then angsting with my heart in my throat for the next fifty only to be laughing aloud all over again. Each book gets better and better, and I say that every time but I stand by it.

Declan was such a great journey, and in spite of being #4 in a series, still so incredibly unique.

Cara was fierce, and bold, and so refreshingly confident I was absolutely in love with her. And Declan? I stan a shy man. Especially when that shyness is exclusively a “Cara thing”.

The way this book highlighted just how hard communication can be and how detrimental miscommunication can be was extraordinary. How insta-attraction can be blinding because being ‘obsessed’ doesn’t lessen the work and effort that is required in order to actually learn someone. And I loved how nobody was given a cop out. It would have been so easy for one of the brothers to tell either Declan or Cara about their obvious feelings for one another but they didn’t, they honored our couples secrets and made them work for the truth even to the detriment of them making asses of themselves. It was honestly so well done I think the communication of this story is one of my favorite parts.

And the found family vibes, as always, were next level. Each book in the series is longer than the last and with each book you get so much more of a look into the brother’s relationships and personalities and I just fell so much more in love with the Brash Brother’s and the way they choose their people and how they subsequently take care of those people. I am growing more and more obsessed with each Brash story and I honestly don’t understand how such a thing is possible, where is the logic in loving each new brother more than the last when I thought I had given all my love to my favorite already?

I am beyond excited to see where this series goes because so many new things have been put into work in Declan and I cannot wait to watch them come into fruition.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series so far and was genially excited for Declan and Cara...and let me just say...this was NOT IT.

The premise should have been likable enough - two people who have secretly, but not so secretly to those around them, been in love with each other for years. But circumstances and miscommunications have kept them apart. Great. Cute. I've read that book, I've loved that book. But this one missed on SO MANY LEVELS.

Honestly, I spent pages 1-245 convinced I should DNF the book and the only reason I stuck around was Declan who was so incredibly lovable! Cute, shy, geeky, perfect Declan. He was so freaking patient with Cara and she 1000% did not deserve him (a point which I made a note about like 600 times).

And Cara. That bitch. She essentially sexually harasses Declan for 3 years because when she throws herself at men, they want her. Her pride is hurt a little by his silence, sure. But not once does she consider any possibility other than "he hates me". She convinces everyone in the office she's this ball-busting confident woman who likes to party and goes to clubs and then has the gal to be SHOCKED when Declan takes that at face value and gets mad at her. Okay okay, they move on from that and Declan does the mature thing...he grows up, he talks to Cara, he lays his love for her out and she's all like "nah, I'm going to continue to not get to know you or understand you but also be hurt by you misunderstanding me and now I think this isn't a good idea". She overreacts to everything, creates problems where there are none, and all in all is maybe just the worst FMC I have ever read in a romance book.

I stuck around for Declan and Declan alone.

I will continue the series, I think the rest of he boys are worth it (or at least making it to Jonas and Janey...excited is an understatement when it comes to those two's story). But my advice to all who are looking to read this series...skip Declan and Cara. You know it ends in a HEA...and that's all you need. You'll most likely get just fine glimpses of them from everyone else's books.

2.75/5 stars...for Declan alone. If this story just had Cara, it would have been a DNF!

I’ve liked most of the Brash Brothers up until this point. And I didn’t DISLIKE this book. It just… wasn’t as good as I hoped.

Declan and Cara have been dancing around for each other for like three straight books and while their chemistry was great in this books, it fell short in this one compared to the other brothers. (Especially Colton and Evie. They’re a hard couple to follow, I’ll admit.)

And while I can appreciate a good miscommunication trope this one just felt… disingenuous. Like there wasn’t any particularly good reason for it, especially after they got stuck and started talking.

I also felt like there were two different plots going on in this book and individually they weren’t bad plots but together they weren’t particularly cohesive.

That being said, I liked brash, confident Cara against probably the only shy Brash Brother. I really appreciated that she had a relationship of her own with all the brothers that wasn’t just “Declan’s love interest.” The conversation with her and Ransom just about killed me. He was so heartbroken that she didn’t come to him and when he told her she was family 😭😭😭😭 (god I can’t wait for Ransom’s book.)

Cara and Declan were also probably the spiciest couple in the sense that they were the most sexual on screen. And I liked seeing the hints of future couples.

I’m definitely going to continue the series, if for no other reason than I need Ransom’s story. 💖

Such a great continous to this series. I love all these books. I enjoyed these two characters. Cara was a very forward confident woman. Declan was the tech guy that loved playing video games. They had many misunderstandings but I loved the awkward nerd hot guy with the confident woman. They both had issues but there were times that Cara would get on my nervous. They danced around each other for many chapters and it would seem like everytime Declan would show he was into Cara she would somehow switch the game again where he felt like he had to apologize again. I understood the misunderstanding and I completely felt for both characters but even after Declan would tell her he liked her she would still twist it around. After we finally read through the misunderstanding and she finally got the man she always wanted she then proceeded to question whether they would work out. Honestly Cara exhausted me. I loved the twist and turns in the end. It took me a little bit longer to get through this book especially the middle but the ending pulled me back into the story and series. I absolutely loved Declan and all the brothers. Cara was not my favorite which disappointed me as I am a strong woman and I love the nerds but I still recommend reading this series in order. It is so good and the introduction of Zach and Maya I am even more excited to start the next book.

I'm not going to rate this one since I decided I won't be reading it, but I still wanted to give my opinion on the characters since we see them in the other books. In Colton's book, we meet Cara, the fmc for Declan. Based on the interactions there, I'm not a fan. She sexually harasses Declan. Period. It's a huge double standard, and I'm struggling to overlook it. He's her boss (technically, since he owns part of the business) and his brothers assistant, and she regularly "corners him" with sexual remarks and touches. He's outright stated to his brothers that she makes him uncomfortable (they laugh it off) and repeatedly puts distance between himself and her when she makes her advances. If the roles were reversed and he was the one making the advances, it would be a much bigger deal. On top of that, throughout the series, Declan has been a lanky video gamer who is outgoing and fun, but suddenly, right before his book, he's started working out and is now trying to be more "mature." I don't like it. Especially since the series has been body positive up to this point. Keep in mind that all of this has happened before we even get to his book. Honestly, I'm trying not to let it turn me off of the rest of the series.

I loved this book.

Having the main male lead be shy, despite him changing his geek physique, made a nice change and, despite all the women, so far, being the strong ones in their relationships, it was good to get a slightly different perspective with Declan and Cara.

I do have to admit that having them both ⁰behaving as they did for three YEARS, wasn't something that I could truthfully get behind, but then, I've barely seen much of the world, so guess it's a possibility.

Whatever the case, I enjoyed this book, especially in how confident Declan finally became.

I really enjoyed the plotline in this, too, with so many different things going on. It really set up other stories that I hope to read but, as I've finished this, at silly O'Clock in the morning, that'll have to wait until I've grabbed a few hours of sleep.

But, once I wake again, I'll be going straight on to Book Five: 'Zach', to find out how he coped with his new employee, who seems to be driving him crazy.

Once I've done that, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of this next story!

Btw, I'm really enjoying the Bonus Scenes at the end of each of these Brash Brother stories - it really shines a.light on each couple's story! Lol

Wanted: Shy, Passionate, and can Woo

“Declan” is Book 4 of The Brash Brothers Series. MMC/FMC. Dual POV. First Person. Billionaire. Enemies to Lovers, Office Geek romance. Note the warnings.

Cara (FMC), an assistant to the Brash Brother’s company, and Declan (MMC), the computer geek, have worked together for several years. Declan is an awkward geek around Cara, but she likes him and often flirts with him. Unfortunately, Cara believes every interaction she has with him shows his disinterest, but Declan is so shy he has to give himself a pep talk every day to work up the courage to talk to Cara.

A traumatic event happens that should bring the two closer together but pushes them further apart after Declan continues to get the wrong impression of Cara and sabotages any potential relationship. As a result, operation woos and groveling take place.

I love Cara’s assertiveness combined with her tenderness. It works well with Declan’s shyness, passion, and protectiveness. The groveling is done right! It would be five stars if there were more spice.

I can’t wait to read Zack and Jonas’ story!

This was such fun! While what Colton did to Declan and Cara was underhanded, it set up the perfect situation to get the two of them talking. And I liked seeing their bubble grow and expand as their relationship became more secure. The two of them each have their issues when it comes to each other and how unsettled they make each other, polar opposite from how they are with everyone else, is entertaining. If Declan was actually able to talk to her and not get caught up in his own head and Cara could realize Declan's escape routine was because he is head over heels, the book wouldn't be that long. But it sure makes for some fun situations.

Ransom setting Cara straight about her position in the family was needed. I am glad he addressed his role in everything and admitted to her that it was wrong and how he really felt about her. It was also nice to see all the brothers come together to save Cara from her possible imprisonment and Declan really pulling out all the stops to prove that Cara belongs with him.

The next stories are always set up nicely so it will be fun to see Zach and Jonas get their HEA soon.

Cara is my least favorite of the women in this series so far, but Declan was one of my favorite men. (Update: After I read Nick’s book, Cara slid even further down in my estimation and I am currently a little peeved at Declan). But she’s still loads better than the best woman in the last series that I read.

I still highly recommend this book. My irritation with Cara doesn’t diminish how good this book is on its own and definitely doesn’t make this series any less worth it. Plus, Nick’s book is quite awesome and the setups for Zack’s and Nick’s books in this one make it worth it even if it wasn’t as good as it is.

I also love how she puts the bonus scenes in the books. I was tired of authors who force me to sign up for their fan newsletter list a dozen times through a series to get the bonus scenes. It wouldn’t bother me to do it once but making it the way one gets all the bonus scenes means the same person has to sign up yet again for every book’s bonus scene. I’m so grateful to Jenna for not making us do that.

This book is the point in the series where the native Chicagoan in me was tempted to be one of those annoying readers who writes to authors to correct them on stuff. I’ve always found it appalling that people do that so it’s a big deal that I was temporarily tempted to do that. (In my defense, I wanted to help by letting her know that Meigs Field had been bulldozed a couple of decades before she wrote these books and it doesn’t exist anymore and that “parkade” isn’t a word a Chicagoan would use and to tell her what they’d call it). The fact that she has clearly already finished all ten books and it is not helpful at this point finally helped me get it together and stopped me from turning into the type of reader I hate.

2.5⭐

Colton is probably my favorite of all the brothers so far, so I can't lie, I hated most of anything to do with him in this book.

That said... I don't mind Declan and Cara as side characters, but I kind of hated them as main characters. I was annoyed with them for most of this story. They keep either telling each other or kept being told by other characters the same thing for the whole story because they're both super insecure about certain things. And then magically towards the end they finally start to believe it all?

And the whole thing with Cara and the DA... It felt very superficial, honestly. And dumb. But mostly like it was in there to be convenient for later.

I don't know. I just really wasn't a fan of this one. It felt like it lost a lot of the fun and charming things about the series with the found family and everything. Like, it's clearly there, but it just didn't feel as present or connected. Slight spoiler:

Wonderful story

I loved the build-up to the crazy courtship of Miss Cara. She has Declan hiding at desk cubbies, and backing into walls, because of her aggressive flirting, and coming on to him so strong. The poor guy is so crazy about her, but he doesn't feel like he's cool, or a smooth ladies man. He thinks because she goes to clubs, she is interested in a Baller type, but his attempts to change have only added lots of muscles, and a short hair cut. He still feels like the same Nerdy, computer, and video gaming guy. Cara has to deal with a lot of self doubt. His, and hers. Long, and sometimes tragedy filled book. Thank you Jenna Myles, for building such a colorful cast of characters. I can't pick a favorite. I love all of the Brash brothers. I can't wait for the next two, and I'm really praying for Randsom to have his story, and find a special lady.
