Your garden is your secret defense against any disaster... But only if you know how to harness its incredible power.
Gardening and survival are fundamentally linked. Think back to the Second World War food gardens that prevented the hunger nations usually experience during and after wars.
Those are clear indicators that you can triumph over adversity when you grow your own food.
Growing food is an essential prepper skill – but it’s only half the journey. Your garden is the answer to keeping your family healthy throughout the year, no matter what disaster may arise.
But it will only keep you going all year long if you know exactly how to make it work for you in the off-season. And the secret lies not in the harvest, but in what you do with that harvest.
And you might be surprised to learn that this process starts long before it’s time to pull up the potatoes. It requires planning what to grow, understanding how to make the most of your crops, and making sure you have the right supplies.
Once you have all that in place, you’re perfectly positioned to keep your family in garden-fresh produce all year long, with delicious treats built-in as a bonus.
The art of being prepared isn’t just about knowing how to survive – it’s about knowing how to thrive. It’s about having the skills to not only get through a disaster but to make life worth living while you’re doing it. And that’s why preserving is such an important skill to have.
The good news is that it’s a fun and straightforward journey – when you have the right guidance.

Revell’s FOOD PRESERVATION FOR PREPPERS is a compact book. With just 109 pages, the author dissects food preservation. Most books will offer readers a multitude of different recipes, but the author instead gives people what they really need; the nuts and bolts of preservation. This was pure genius on Revell’s part because many, if not most, preppers already have the recipes or create their own. Instead, the author gave people what they needed; factual knowledge on how to preserve food and avoid spoilage.
The book is filled with tips - 99 official tips to be exact and numerous other why-didn’t-I-think-of-that? tips. For example, I would have never considered using panty hose to store onions! As a farmer, I’ve used various preservation methods. Over the years, I’ve accumulated an untold number of canning recipe books. And while most of them give basic canning procedures, none have delved deeply into *why* foods spoil.
This is a really useful book. It definitely doesn’t rehash what other prepper books have already done. By offering readers a new angle on food preservation, I believe that Revell’s book will find its way onto many bookshelves.

A great, easy to follow book full of tips for different preserving methods. The author uses mostly sustainable and healthy preservation techniques and avoids chemicals and synthetics. I appreciated the tips that may be missed in books about each subject.
This book is completely packed with useful information. I wouldn't necessarily consider myself a "prepper" in the way I've seen that term portrayed on TV and social media, but I do enjoy growing and preserving my own food both for emergency preparedness and simply for managing our family budget.
Whether you are a full out prepper, prepper lite, a gardener trying to preserve their harvest or simply someone looking to reduce their food waste through preservation, this book will help.
I fully plan to buy multiple copies of this book for myself, my family and my community garden.
Everything you ever wanted to know about food preservation is included in the cookbook, Food Preservation for Preppers: How to Master Canning, Dehydrating & Freezing with 99 Simple Tips to Prep for the Future, by C.B. Revell. This is an excellent book with modern information, that will help save time and money, without wasting good food and making it possible to have favorite foods on hand for when it is needed. The book covers the history of food preservation, and the progressive methods that have evolved through the years. There is information on growing, harvesting, choosing, and storing different foods, as well as different methods of preserving such as canning, freezing, and drying.
This is more of a textbook, and not a cookbook; it doesn’t include actual recipes, rather instructions on preserving different foods by different methods. While the instructions are well-written and easy-to-understand, this book isn’t one that will inspire anyone to curl up and read. It is one of those informational tomes and is not particularly fun or even that interesting unless looking to find specific information on a preserving question or method. There are photographs or illustrations, which would make it more interesting to read.
Books such as this are definitely necessary, and it is a good idea to have it on the cookbook shelf for reference when preserving any type of food.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
I love this book. I’ll be adding this to my other cookbooks collection.
This book goes into non complicated details on how to prepare your food for different type of storage. It talks about basics, temperatures, types of canning, and different ways of storing.
It basically teaches you to depend on yourself with the preparation of food instead of going to the grocery stores for premade boxed items with unnecessary chemicals and toxics.
If you enjoy canning like I do, or other preparations of natural food like I do, then this book is for you. It’s an excellent guide who’s interested in changing their lifestyles or beginners, or even experts. I will most definitely purchase this book for myself.

This book includes a lot of information when considering what food to preserve and how. It offers tips on choosing your food, how to make sure it's preserved safely, storage, and labeling. The book touches on preservation techniques like pickling, fermenting, drying, canning, and freezing. This isn't quite a how to guide because it's essentially an organized list of high level tips, but it's also not a recipe book since it doesn't include recipes for pickling or freezing. I found some of the instructions confusing so I could see beginners being confused by some of them as well.
The title of this book should be FOOD PRESERVATION FOR EVERYONE. The cost of food these days has turned us all in preppers. I read an article that said people who raise their own food and preserve it are actually Food Rebels. I guess I'm a food rebel. This book has so much information for those of us unwilling to waste our time or money by paying so very much more for the everyday food items we need. CB Revell has definitely done the research and the hands on application of growing, preserving and storing food. The book has given me so many more ideas and provided information I didn't even know I needed. I can not say enough about how much every kitchen needs this book.
What good is growing your own food or buying in bulk if you cannot store it properly?? This book has the answer to almost any food preservation you could ask. And this book is NOT just for preppers! This is for the busy mom who needs to bulk cook for ready, easy, nutritious meals or the homesteader who just brought in 20lbs of zucchini and wants to have other options than a bakery’s worth of zucchini bread. I’ve taken courses in dehydration and canning, and this book really does a thorough job in succinctly covering all important information. An absolute go-to book on my homesteading shelf!
A package filled with information regarding pretty much everything concerning food preservation for smart daily use. This is a good book for people who are interested in preserving food in different ways, but might not yet be a wizard in this field. The books tells us what you can preserve, and what you should not preserve. It also gives the reader the best ways of preserving for example tomatoes and berries. Whether your thing is canning, freezing, drying or any other kind of food preservation you will probably get some good tips and ideas from the book, even if you are not a beginner.
I am pretty new to food preservation for preppers since I never imagined I would need to know how. Over the past couple of years I have learned quite a bit through books and this book took me over the top. I loved the way the author explains everything in a way that didn't confuse me. I am newly motivated to get my pantry in "working for me" mode. From teaching me how to grow the right garden for me to all of the preservation methods this book has left me so ready for next year's garden. I recommend this book to everyone. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
Good tips and explanations Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2022 Very scientific explanations but in plain English for those that don’t understand how to preserve foods in all the different variations. There was a few tips that I hadn’t heard of before and I’m a pretty seasoned preserver. Nice refresh on every chapter to get the main points reviewed. Nice references for those that want to further following or looking at any of them
Food Preparation for Preppers is a very comprehensive guide. Granted most of the information listed can be found in other resources. However, the convenience of having it all compiled into one book makes it in my mind very helpful. I personally really enjoyed the book and I’m impressed by the amount of detail and information within. I feel this is a great book to keep on hand especially when you need to know multiple methods of preserving foods.

An excellent resource for the preservation and storage of food. I was a little disappointed not to find a lot of information on freezing foods, but on the whole a book for anyone who values their food and getting the most for their money.
Although not so much of a prepper , I hate good waste food especially when it is going up in price so quickly. This book covers all aspects of food preservation and explains their used thoroughly. A very useful book.
I am always looking for ways to preserve food, because I have to eat healthy, fresh foods. It's hard to keep everything fresh unless you plan to go to the store a few times a week to restock your fridge. This book is super helpful and easy to follow.
I was amazed by the amount of information and detail in this book. I like the idea of preserving but didn’t know how to start. This was a great beginners guide. And not just one style there’s way more to it than “simply” canning.
