Weis-Bohlen explains Ayurvedic principles in way that is easily understood. Guided through the dosha test, she begins with optimizing sleep for your dosha type. This is a most important base and you will see a noticeable difference in how you feel after just one or two nights of better rest. New to me was the explanation of Marma points. I found this type of massage most helpful and almost put myself to sleep at work. I have discovered my true dosha is Vata. I have learned how to manage my joint pain and what foods to eat to stay in balance. I have learned so much from this book and I feel so refreshed. Highly recommend this as a beginner's guide to Ayurveda.

I was very interested in this take on holistic heath and medicine. While I've read a lot about different forms of holistic mehtods, ayurveda has not yet been one of them. The practice itself and the author were a bit too much for me in general ( some of the methods were just a bit too gimmicky for me to buy into), but the book itself was informative and well written. There was some helpful home remedies that I might try out, without embracing the method as a whole. Aside from the radical tone used and some definitely wacky parts (as well as body shaming and misinformation by the author), I enjoyed learning about this practice.
I really enjoyed this book on Ayurvedic medicine and home remedies!! Some of this was a refresh for me as I’ve always been attracted to the Ayurvedic teachings and lifestyle, but I found the pages and information vibrant and easy to digest and I really enjoyed how it’s broken into all the main aspects of life (sleep, food, etc.). It’s a fast and inspiring read and I truly think the world would be a healthier place if we all tried a fraction of the remedies in this book / Ayurvedic medicine!
Thank you NetGalley, Susan and Quarto publishing for the arc - all thoughts and opinions are mine!
Good starter book for anyone wanting the basics. A general start. I truly feel the Dosha Quiz could have been better quality, but the rest hold substance to the Ayurvedic path. This book isn’t for anyone who is a deep diver or someone who studies Ayurveda.
Limited in scope, some tips were very obvious, but some might find this a good starter to understanding how to use ayurveda for very, very basic first aid.
I became a certified yoga instructor in 2020 and at that time started my research into Ayurvedic living.
I have read several Ayurveda books and this is one I will definitely purchase to read over and over again.
I really enjoyed reading the advice for the different doshas. And while I kept my dosha in mind, it was interesting to dive into the others, as well as remedies for things that I may need to think about in the future.
The book was very informative and well-written and I have shared several elements from the book with co-workers and walked through the meditation with my yoga class during savasana. Following my class, a yogi came to me in tears saying how much she appreciated that portion of class.
I would have liked to see a deeper dosha quiz, but really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
I got this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a very comprehensive resource for utilizing Ayurvedic wisdom to self-treat common maladies. This book starts with an introduction to the science of Ayurveda and continues with chapters on Sleep, Pain, Respiratory System, Digestion, Skin, Reproductive System, and Caring for Yourself and Others at Every Age. Each section describes a variety of ailments, and different suggested remedies based on dosha type.
I love the holistic approach offered and I think this book would be useful for beginners and those more familiar with the Ayurvedic healing system. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for natural, ancient wisdom to effectively find relief and maintain whole body wellness at home.
Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group – Fair Winds via NetGalley for gifting me with an ARC to review. I enjoyed it!
There are a few things in here that I didn’t necessarily agree or resonate with which is why I’m giving it 3 stars. However, there were also some great bits of information that I will use / reference moving forward.
