How to Talk With God is a little book with a big message. It reveals, with clarity, the essence, truth, and effectiveness of our prayer time with God.
I remember when I was young, I told my mother that I didn’t really know how to pray “right.” She gently planted a seed in me that day by telling me that praying is simply talking to God. Her advice is similar to what Joyce Meyer shares in this book.
Alongside Biblical principles, this book helps you to build your prayer life and your relationship with God. This is one of those books you’ll want to buy two of—one to give to a friend, and one to keep for yourself.
First Line: I think most people would agree that effectiveness is important in prayer. Genre: Christian Personal Growth Author: Joyce Meyer Page Count: 176

Wonderful book by an extraordinary author. It doesn’t matter if you’re new to prayer or have been a prayer warrior for more years than you can count, this enjoyable, fast-paced book will provide you with a WEALTH of inspiration and information. It’ll add lift to your prayers!
In How to Talk to God, Joyce Meyer explored with readers on the hidden truths found in praying and taking to their loving Heavenly Father daily. This book will assist readers in learning to pray that God will teach us how to pray. Even one of Jesus disciples stated to the Lord to teach us to pray. We must remember that not everyone prays the same way and this isn’t wrong with how you pray. Some prefer to pray out loud, silently, eyes open or closed, while music is playing, quiet setting, and much more. We need to learn how to let God’s Holy Spirit led us and to follow his promptings. She explained how building a relationship with God takes time just like it takes to build a friendship. She shared that we can be as close to God as we want if we are willing to invest in our relationship. She looked at four observations, we can have about prayer. These included, remembering that prayer doesn’t have to be long, doesn’t have to be complicated, doesn’t have to be eloquent, and you don’t have to be perfect. She strongly encouraged readers to pray when they don’t know what to do, when they are sick, when someone you loves is suffering, when you want to give up, just to name a few. She also enclosed prayers we can pray when we are afraid, season of difficulty, stressed, struggling financially, worried about the future. This book contains material derived from The Power of Simple Prayer.
Joyce opened up about how she was called into ministry in 1976. She was married and was busy raising three kids and was working a full-time job. God was directing her to quit her job and pursue a full-time teaching ministry. She struggled with quitting her job because she didn’t want to lose her income means. She would have to really trust God to provide for them. The monthly bill was exceeding 40 dollars from just relying on her husband’s income. This didn’t include any room if they needed anything extra. She decided to get a part time job but she still wasn’t following God’s directing. When she worked the part time job, she felt she couldn’t do anything right and she was eventually fired. She watched God provide for them and she shared what this taught her about obedience. This can also greatly help us to honor God and it can help to reveal our love for Him.
I would recommend this life enhancing book on prayer to anyone who is ready to build a deeper relationship with Christ and they want to grow in prayer. I was touched by how she specified that she believes satan is trying to build a giant stronghold of cold love in believers. Yes, you read that correctly believers! He is working overtime to try and make us selfish, self-centered, and not loving others. This is truly eye opening and we can all learn to walk in love and to treat others like they matter. If we would all work on following 1st Corinthians 13, we would see love being lived out. I also liked and appreciated how open she was in discussing forgiveness and how this is one important area that is hindering our prayers from being answered. I immensely loved how she looked at how prayer is an essential part of our day-to-day life and how we can overcome any common issues we have be facing that may be preventing us from praying.
"I received this book free from the publisher, Hachette Book Group/Faithwords for my honest review.”
How To Talk With God is a Christian Living inspirational by author Joyce Meyer.
In the introduction Ms. Meyer asks if you want to pray about something in your life but aren’t sure how to do it, do you wonder if God hears you, or do you wonder if your prayers make a difference?
Joyce intends the purpose of the book to serve as a “prayer primer” for those who feel they don’t know how to pray, and a refresher for those who feel their spiritual life is dry or stale.
There are two parts to the book (1) Joyce will help you understand that the basis for an easy, enjoyable prayer life is your personal relationship with God (2) Joyce will show you several important habits of people who pray powerful prayers and barriers to effective prayer life. As she closes the book Ms. Meyer will offer closing words of advice and encouragement about how to stay strong in your prayer life.
The most meaningful part to me was part 2 where Joyce teaches readers how to practice the habits of powerful powerful people who pray powerfully and how to break through the barriers of effective prayer.
I give How To Talk With God 5*/5*. I would recommend it to readers who want a more effective prayer life.

I have read many books on prayer and most have given techniques for an effective prayer life. Meyer's book is a little different in that she encourages us to be our unique selves in relationship with God. We have different personalities and experiences and will relate to God in unique ways. Yes, there are some general principles of prayer that apply to everyone but God wants a personal relationship and will lead each of us individually.
I really like her encouragement to approach God in our own way. Our prayers will not necessarily be like those of other people. We are to follow the leading of the Spirit, not man made rules. We pray as God directs, developing a friendship with Him. Be honest. Don't be fearful of not praying correctly.
Meyer does give general principles for approaching God, like the attitudes of love, forgiveness, humility, gratitude, compassion and persistence. She also addresses possible barriers to effective prayer, such as sin. The only barrier I didn't like was speaking negative words. I believe God is greater than being bound by my doubtful words. Meyer encourages us to be honest with God and for me, that may include voicing my negative feelings.
This is a book for Christians who have not had good experiences with prayer because they have felt bound by prescribed rules of prayer. Meyer frees us to be honest with God, communicating to Him in our own way as we develop our friendship with Him.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.
It was only a year ago that I said the Sinner’s prayer and so, I consider my faith walk to be still in its infancy stage. Growing up in a non-Christian family, prayers were something that was rigid and legalistic. How I approached God - timid and doubtful - was also coloured by my previous experience as a pre-believer.
My prayer life was becoming stagnant which my gut feeling tells me something is not right. Meyer’s book was a serendipitous find in the library and the timing could not be more perfect. It helped me to right my praying posture and reconsider the meaning of prayer in a different light.
Meyer’s voice was not preachy but instead, nurturing and patient. If it was not for the fact that the book is public property, I would have gone on a highlighting frenzy! I wholeheartedly agree that this is one book that we should have two copies of - one to keep and one to gift.
I wrote this review from the perspective of a fairly new believer but I concur with Meyer’s words that “prayer is not a one-time lesson but a relationship that deepens as you walk with God throughout your life”. This fun-size book is highly applicable to all no matter the stage you are at in your faith walk.
I pray that you find this book to be a rewarding read, just like I have 😊.
Another fine example from Joyce Meyer of being one with God our creator. In today's hectic world are you keeping true to your word? Do you create a world in which you're simply co-existing or are you there to make sure you're helping your fellow brother or sister? There's many ways to thank God for his work. You can begin by asking God for his love. Try keeping your prayers concise and concrete. Don't matter if it's perfect. Non of us are as we all cast sins. What we can do is improvise. Start fresh. Start new. Use what we have to build upon and use the stones cast at us to rectify our own lives. It's not about moving ahead but about forgiving those who did you wrong. God sees and god will protect you from harm as long as you stand in blind faith. Even when things seem as though there's not a way. God will find a way and pull you through. The power of Joyce Meyer is simply unmatched and for that we must be grateful. Thank you for another wonderful masterpiece of insight and love.
I've been a serious Christ follower for nearly 45 years and I've always struggled with prayer even though I know it's as easy as talking with a friend sitting right next to you. However, I have a difficult time feeling like God is right there in the room with me. How to Talk with God by Joyce Meyer is a great way for me to work through the issues with my prayer life.
As in her usual, easy-to-understand way, Joyce Meyer walks through the ways to easily talk to and with God scripturally. I appreciate that this book is as good for a new believer as much as for a mature believer. Frankly, it's a good book for those who are still struggling with their faith and belief in God. Whether you purchase this book for yourself or for a gift, this is one resource that you'll be looking back on through the years in each new season of your life. This is one of the easiest books on prayer to understand that I've ever read.
I received this book from Hachette Book Group for free in exchange for an honest review.
I have always felt that every book I ever read by Joyce Meyer was beneficial to me in some way. When I saw this title, I thought to myself that I already know how to pray, so why read this? Believe me when I say that there were many points that were helpful to me, and I truly feel this is another inspiring book by Joyce.
Joyce mentions things that I've wondered about in the past such as: is it best to pray when kneeling? and shouldn't I allow myself a long period of time to pray? She also reinforced things I already knew, and brought other things to mind AGAIN, because sometimes in life we forget things that are important.
Even if you think you don't really need a book about prayer, you might you'd benefit from this one.
How to Talk With God by Joyce Meyer offers a refreshing and accessible approach to prayer. Addressing the challenges and uncertainties that many Christians face in their prayer lives, Meyer provides simple and practical advice based on biblical scriptures. Through this book, readers will gain confidence in communicating with God, learn to recognize His voice and understand the significance of prayer in nurturing a personal relationship with Him. Whether new to prayer or seeking to deepen your faith, How to Talk With God is an empowering guide that will transform your daily rhythms and enrich your spiritual journey.
I was really excited to read this book about prayer. The more I read, the more I felt like the author was saying G0d will only hear your prayers if you do the things listed in the book and avoid the barriers to effective prayers, which is works based faith. However, I tried to look at it more like, "if you incorporate these practices into your life to be more like Christ, your prayers will naturally be more aligned to His will."
Overall, it was a pretty good book, but again, I want to be careful to avoid thinking of the spiritual practices listed in the book as items to check-off on a to-do list.
How to Talk with God by Joyce Meyer presents another pivotal issue that is mainstream in society. It seems as if everyone wants to know how to do religion well, and know that they have a right relationship with God (that is, if they are a Christian and care about faith). I do like that Meyer gives some creative approaches to talking to God. I also like that she makes it personal, friendly, and authentic, as that is always how God wants us to approach Him. I think this book would be good for someone new to the faith.
How to Talk with God by Joyce Meyer is a beautiful guide on effective prayer or “talking” with the Lord. She helps the reader to see that praying anywhere, any time and with boldness and faith in God is always the right and best way. If you approach Him with confidence and good motives, God honors our requests to Him in His will. This book came out on July 25th, so grab a copy!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. The opinions expressed are completely my own.
Do you want to pray effective, powerful prayers? Joyce brings a simple tutorial in this 150-page gem. Small in size, big in effectiveness. A great book to keep on the night table and use as reference when confused, doubting, or just plain having a bad day. I always recommend Joyce's books for anyone who just wants to know more about the Christ-following life!
This was a spiritual book. I don’t know why but I picked it up at the local library in Montreal. But after reading it I believe I have understood what I was missing in connecting with the almighty. Though I am not a Christian but I believe in God and respect all faiths and I keep my effort to be a friend of God. Good book!
This is a good, easily understood tutorial on prayer. People have called me a prayer warrior (although I do not feel like one), but the Joyce breaks prayer down into digestible chunks allowed me to grow my prayer life. I recommend this book to everyone who wants to deepen their prayer life and deepen their connection to God.
This was a simple read that gave good instruction for those wanting to lean into prayer more fully. I appreciated the ease and conversational style that Joyce Meyer is known for. I recommend this book.
Who doesn't love Joyce Meyer! She has done it again with a really easy to read guide to praying. Just after the first chapter it had me really thinking about when and how I pray. Such a great book on prayer.
I often feel that my prayers get repetitious and want to learn more about how to pray. This book provides an easy-to-understand basis on how to pray along with explaining several of the barriers that may prevent us from having an effective prayer life.
I've been struggling with prayer simply because I was over complicating it, was intimidated, and felt like I didn't know how. This book has helped me so much in understanding prayer and how it works, and now thanks to this book I'm becoming more confident in my prayers.
This is one of those books that I would buy and gift to EVERY new believer. Even a seasoned believer who has found themselves struggling with Prayer. So helpful and practical. Leaving with new revelations 🙌🏼
