An impending apocalypse. An opportunity to prevent it. The challenge? Earn humanity's survival by saving fantastical worlds from their own destruction. Simple, huh?
The vast comet should have destroyed us...
When it slowed, then landed, everything we thought we knew about the universe changed. And for Mark, things just got far stranger, and much more dangerous.
They came from another dimension, condemning our selfish, greedy ways, but sensing in us a potential to change. So when they chose Mark as a volunteer in their deadly trials to save the human race, how could he say no?
Join him on his quest for loot, levels, and powerful abilities. He'll need them all as he fights in kingdoms large and small, battling demons and dinosaurs, vampires and robots, orcs and... fairies?
For Mark, the price of saving the planet looks to be a world of hurt. Maybe he would've been better off if the comet hadn't landed so softly, after all?
Why do authors insist that characters that use wit and sarcasm to deal with stress also be morons? Nothing the MC did drive the story. Everything just happened as he fumbles about. Anyone who happened to be in his spot would accomplish the same.
I only got two hours of sleep reading this book. It’s that good. It’s extremely well written I only found two mistakes in over 700 pages. There is a problem with when you finish it. You can’t automatically post a review to Amazon or Goodreads so I had to go in and find the book so I could give you this review.
As for the plot, it’s awesome inter-dimensional aliens come to kill us all because we’re a bunch of blood thirsty assholes. As they approach the planet, they notice that we’re not all bad, we do have redeeming qualities, they give us a chance to save ourselves by saving others
The characters were very well done. I have read some of this authors other works, and I’m gonna say this is his best. He writes believable characters some of them you won’t like some you will one of the characters that he wrote was a traitor that managed to redeem himself. He got in my feels.
I don’t give very many five star reviews. This one deserves a five star review. I give it a nine out of 10 but you fix the two mistakes and it’s a 10 out of 10 for sure. Unfortunately my notes can’t be posted so I can’t show the author where the mistakes are at so if anybody else reads this book and finds the two mistakes if you please post them or send them to the author so they can be fixed because this is a 10 out of 10 book.
Love the story first of all. But the MC is an ass. He does stupid moves that are boorish and inconsiderate. just to give one example, he tells his sidekick that she isn’t real that she’s in NPC in a game. How horrible is that? if the author has read these other great lit RPG books, then why has he written his character the way he has? His character is not likable. The Snark is OK, but you have to have the might to back it up. Some of the humor is juvenile at best. his character is inconsistent, son his sidekick is a better human being than he is. To give you one more example about the MC. He kills a horse killer with no animosity or anxiety whatsoever but when it comes to killing, pedophiles and rapists, he has angst galore. This series sounds like it could be a grand adventure, but you have to like the companions you are traveling this adventure with. I hope in the next book the MC gets a little bit round it out and becomes more human. The only other issue I see is that could be more leveling up for the MC and his sidekick. Will read the next book because the story is interesting.
Mark (the MC) is a guy who thought putting arcade games together with a bar/pub would work. It probably should have, but in his case it didn't and now he's broke and owes money to the bank.
A comet is hurtling towards Earth, and just before it hits the thing comes to a stop. The aliens say they were going to destroy Earth because of how violent we are, but now they've watched Lord of the Rings and they see the value in us. So, they propose a test.
Volunteers (some true volunteers like Mark and others voluntold to make up the numbers) are sent to a choice of worlds. Mark chooses the dungeon trainer option, and then he's there. I won't spoil what happens in the dungeon.
Oh, and I should mention that players have multiple lives. The actual number is unknown. After the dungeon Mark ends up on a world where orcs, trolls, dire wolves, Wargs and many more creatures are fighting the humans. He meets a barbarian and together they do their best to bring the world back into balance.
I had a lot of fun with this. Yes, the MC and his sidekick get lucky more than a few times, but the book is well put together and the action is consistent and gory. While that is going on, Mark is trying to get answers from his alien 'helper' as to the true nature of the game he's playing, but the alien is obtuse and doesn't share.
The editing is clean, and the stats make sense while not taking up multiple pages at a time. All in all, this is a book I can recommend and I'm looking forward to book 2. 5/5*
I originally gave this 3 stars cause the humor was so bad. Seriously was killing the story for me. Don’t get me wrong I absolutely love humor in a story, but the author just wasn’t funny. It completely ruined the story flow and was cringey.
As it progressed though the author does tone it down a bit and focuses on the story more. After this the story gets great and I started loving it. The ending was epic and I would have given it 5 stars if the author would quit trying to be funny. Stick to your strengths! Don’t try to be something you aren’t.
There was one other thing that kinda irked me. The MC can earn realm points. Kind of like reputation points but for the whole realm. At one point in the story he redeems these by literally just changing the whole area. He literally snaps his fingers Thanos style and whole destroyed areas are just pristine and brand new. The good guys instantly get every advantage and upgrade they need and now they can win. Felt lazy and IMO would have been better if the whole realm point aspect wasn’t part of the story. That’s just me though.
Writing in first person perspective as if it is a journal, literally. Talking about the process of buying the paper and how “I’m not a writer.” Two pages in and I can’t stand it, tried skipping ahead a chapter at a time, still a solid nope for me.
Ruined by the MC. Damned near gave up several times, only finished it because Mark became slightly less annoying. Slightly, and I also skipped about 100 pages in the middle without missing anything essential.
The idea is that people who never would have taken a dangerous job before are plunged into these life-or-death situations that could crack seasoned military professionals. Having been in a combat zone and seen the various reactions of people who actually volunteered to be there, I am aware that you never know who will step up and who will fold.
Mark's whingeing (I'll use UK slang to describe this wanker) and smart-assery is tiresome, and my suspension of disbelief was sorely tested every time he mouthed off to powerful people in primitive circumstances who won't blink to execute people. His temper tantrums didn't help.
Will I read book two? Maybe, but only because it looks like the machinations behind the scenes revealed at the end of the book could make it more interesting. If I do, my DNF rating for the book will be on a hair trigger if Mark doesn't pull his shit together.
I like sarcastic characters, with a splash of humor but Mark just irritates me. I've never been annoyed with an mc before . He doesn't really do anything , everything is solved by luck or his side kick pointing out the obvious. He's shitting his pant due something new scaring him , making dumb decisions and or saying totally unnecessary things.
His class for example makes zero sense to me. The whole time I was expect a animal based class but he picks a class that uses his lowest stat. He didn't even look through the classes before picking it, he just made a random decision and went straight for it. There is more I could rant , such as item usage or weak mentality for everything but his own weird moral compass. You can guess how much the character annoys and frustrates me.
The story is very interesting, may even continue reading just for that. However, when the MC keeps making me say " this is ridiculous" , i may need to pause for a bit and continue.

Parents: R more adult style read Language: R - quite a bit of cussing and too many f-bombs (I counted 3 in a five minute period of listening) Violence & Sexual Content: I couldn't finish this one due to the amount of language so I can't speak to the content here
I only got about 5% into this book. I really didn't care for the writing style, he's narrating his story says he's not a good writer in the beginning several times. Then the bad language picked up it's pace by the fifth chapter my ears were burning and I had to stop.
The narrator (4.5🌟) did fit the main character really well, he did a fantastic job with the differentiations and was fun to listen to. It was a bit slow for me but I usually listen at 1.25x speed, this one felt better to me at 1.35x speed.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Fleet has ventured into yet another genre and hits a home run. Mark is just a regular guy until he volunteers to help save the human race and is sent to a different universe where he has to make his way through multiple challenges. This character driven tale has magic, sorcerers, goblins, orcs, farmers, soldiers and epic battles. I highly recommend this book to gamers and fans of the LitRPG/ Fantasy genres.
I loved this book. I really did, until the last couple of pages. If it leads into the next book, I will be okay. However, if this is a one and done book, then the ending is absolutely terrible. Yes, a couple of pages can ruin a book for me. So, read at your own risk.
Standard fair with guy pulled from his world into a new world , but very well written , god humour and sarcasm. Nice amount of stats without going crazy so you get bored with them , good progression and the hero is not to op . I really enjoyed the story line and I’m very much looking forward to book two .
Wonderful work, I liked the story more that I though possible. Mark can be a likable MC to follow around, since he is really honest about himself, accepting his faults but also his good traits. The plot is deeper that we are make to believe at first and even is not surprising is entertaining enough. The ending though was magnificent, the stakes get higher really quick.
The main character is great he feels real makes mistakes but grows from them. Side characters all had goals and he didn't even date any of them. The plot was exiting and I can't wait for the next book
Fun, quippy, quirky, and just an all-around good read. This isn't a dark LitRPG. This is a fun read with characters you want to win. Full of action and one-liners, it is a book you'll struggle to put down. I am looking forward to the next book.
I hate writing reviews. Fun and well paced story. Intelligent and moral mc. This author deserved a review for a well written novel. Looking forward to book two.
