DNF at 43% I never thought that I would DNF a book from this author but I think I just lost my interest in this couple. Couldn't connect with the story and the vampire and witch pair didn't work with me that well. I will come back to this book, I just am not in the right mood for it.
Roshan DeLongpre is a vampire bored with his existence. He's been alive for almost three hundred years, and seen and done just about everything there is to see and do. He's read hundreds of thousands of books, seen the cities of the world change, watched innumerable moons rise in the night sky. But after all this time, there's no joy left in his life-only that unshakable need to exist, to survive.
All of that changes, when he sees a colorless pen and ink drawing of a woman being burned at the stake. The captions and ensuing story in the book tells him that Brenna Flanagan was suspected of witchcraft and subsequently burned for her sins, her ashes scattered after her death in a mountain lake. Unnerved by Brenna's rare beauty, and the eerie similarity between the mountain lake in the story and that of a painting hanging in his library, Roshan immediately sets out to determine who exactly Brenna Flanagan was. The fact that she looks eerily similar to his lost love, Atiyana, furthers his resolve to solve the mystery of who this woman was.
Feeling almost bewitched himself, as the artist of that small pen and ink drawing was purported to be, Roshan chooses to use his supernatural powers to do the unthinkable-travel back into the past and rescue Brenna before the angry mob can burn her for her sins. It sounds simple enough, and in fact, both Roshan and Brenna survive the trip through time, but now Brenna is thrust into a world where nothing is as she remembers-and the vampire Roshan is in serious danger of losing his heart.
As Brenna becomes more familiar with this strange new world around her, more problems come to light-Brenna loves Roshan more than she ever dreamed possible, but is frightened beyond belief of the vampire way of life. And when they both overcome their personal fears-Brenna of being turned, Roshan of giving his heart to another woman in marriage-both are unprepared for the personal sacrifices that each must make.
NIGHT'S KISS is a great addition to the stories of Amanda Ashley, who manages to blend the power of vampires and their world with that of the modern-day. Brenna and Roshan are a powerful couple, and their tribulations, trials, and sense of survival shine through in this engaging story of love and redemption.
This is good. There is time travel, vampires, witches. I really liked the parts where Brennan was figuring out her new world, but I wish there would have been more of them. This is well written. Considering this is the first in a series I am surprised at how well it flowed and how little world dumping there was. Will continue series.
I really enjoyed this one. It's been ages since I read a vampire novel. I mean, I have been reading new books in my fav series, but I had not started a new vampires series in a very long time. This book had a sweet and cute romance between a woman (well a witch actually) and a vampire, the kind we have not seen in a while. A powerful and sexy vampire, a great and caring heroine, an entertaining plot and a terrific ending. Just what I needed. I mean there was nothing original in this book, but at the same time it had everything I love about this genre, so how can I complain?
Synopsis: Roshan DeLongpre is a melancholy vampire who has lost his will to live until he reads about Brenna Flannigan, a witch burned at the stake, and finds himself inextricably drawn to her. He decides to travel to the past and bring her safely to his own time. Little does he know the dangerous threat that exists in the present to both Brenna’s life and his own…
Review: Stereotypical vampire fare.
Roshan has all the characteristics of an old-school vampire and is also a recluse. So if you are looking for a series similar to the Blackdagger Brotherhood, Midnight Breeds or Dark Hunters this is not for you. That said, he is an endearing character and his romance with Brenna is sweet even though the resolution to the vampire/human relationship did not appeal to me.
The story is virtually non-existent until the wicked warlock subplot and the epilogue feels completely contrived and superfluous. Another aspect of the tale that irritated me was Brenna’s characterization. She is established as a powerful witch but allows Roshan to dominate her and her powers appear to be completely useless when she finds herself in a precarious situation. I kept thinking: “Come on woman! You’re a witch! Use your magic!”
Is there such a thing as too much detail? Absolutely yes! In general, the writing style is ok but there is far too much information on theories of time travel and the fundamentals of witchcraft such as the significance of various colors and herbs.
This is a cute, light read but I am not really interested in continuing with the series.
Ah! I Love Amanda Ashley...She always stays in my mind no matter how long it has been since i read one of her other novels. Her characters are impressinable and always have a lasting effect. I adored the heroine, Brenna. She is just adorable! Brenna is from the 1600's around the Salem witch trials. She obviously is a witch. Roshan, our hero, travels back in time, to save her from the stake when he sees a painting of her on the internet. The image of Brenna gives him hope and he feels in debt to her.I think it was love at first sight for both of them ;P.Amanda ashley ALWAYS entertains me in her novels, she throws in interesting historical facts of the Witch hysteria and also some Wiccan Spells. I like to consider myself a kinda sorta Goth(minus black hair and stuff)/nerdfighter/historical freak/Supernatural and paranormal lover/hopeless romantic.Amanda Ashley hits all of those marks with "Night's Kiss". A really Great book, enjoyable, fast paced with its twists and turns and never forget the suspense! If your looking for another fantastic Amanda Ashley novel, I suggest : Desire After Dark. I love it, In my Opinion much better then this one. But Both a brilliant in their own way.
Oof; this is such a product of it's time. A vampire travels back in time to save a woman accused of witchcraft and brings her to the modern era. He thinks she's his love reincarnated and it's insta-love and there's someone hunting them. It just wasn't for me.
I took my time reading this book. It was a little old fashion in the reading for a vampire book but I truely enjoyed it. It wasn't full of sexual scenes but it was full of love and the desire between each character.
The story begins with a 300 year old vampire named Roshan who has kept up with the time has the years have changed, he has educated himself with computers and reading and collecting many books. He has pasion for reading about witch craft and finds and falls in love with a photo of a witch named "Brenna" who was acused of witch craft and burned at the stake.
Roshan goes back in time and rescues her while the fire is burning her at the stake in 1962 on All Hallow's Eve. You can imagine her surprise when she learns that she has been brought to the future. Roshan is gental with her and controls his desires to take her and take her blood. However over time, their pasion grows stronger and stronger until they finally make love but he does not turn her into a vampire.
Roshan wants to give her what ever she wants except he can not give her a child and he wants to make sure Brenna is aware of this and aware of how he has to live before he can make any kind of commitment to her. Brenna is so in love with Roshan that they agree to get married in a church at nite.
There are other witches in this centrys time who are craving to find vampires so they can obtain their blood and find a way to convert themselves to live for eternity like the vampires do and have the power to always heal themselves.
The only friend that Brenna makes in her short time living there before planning a wedding is a witch she met a book store. Brenna ask this witch to stand up for her at her wedding and the witch agrees, however, afterwards, the witch says she bought a cake and some champaign to celerbrate the ocasion but it was back at her book store. Roshan and Brenna had no idea it was a trap when they get there.
Roshan is captured by a warlock with metal chains and Brenna was given a sleeping potion that was slipped into her drink. While held captive, blood was drawn from Roshan into viles and then the warlock took and inserted the blood into Brenna to see if she would turn into a vampire. To the warlocks surprise, the effect worked but he had no idea that it only worked temporarly.
Roshan escapes his bondage and rescues Brenna but then the witch pack comes to their home and summons Brenna out of the house by use of the witch magick. To test the warlocks mixture, they cut Brenna and she heals but they still want more proof so they cut her again. The head witch and the warlock fight over the power of the only vile left with the vampires blood in it and the head witch pulls a gun on the warlock. The warlock bluffs the head witch to come get it and as she comes forward to get it, the warlock pulls a knife out and stabs the head witch in the heart, however the gun the head witch was holding fires off a shot that hits Brenna in the side.
When Roshan wakes from his sleep he notices that his wife is not there in the house any where and sinces where she is at. Roshan gets to the warlocks house and finds him standing over Brenna with the gun pointing at her head but before the warlock could make a move, Roshan is on him so fast that he feeds the last vile into the warlock and the blood in the vile kills the warlock. Once again Brenna is rescued.
Only thing is, Brenna is dieing and the only thing Roshan can do is save her because he could not imagine living life with out her so he turns her into a vampire.
After finding out that she was turned into a vampire and settleing down into the routine, they go out to do their hunting to feed. When they are walking down an alley they hear a scream and there is a young teenager giving birth in a dumpster. Immediately Roshan and Brenna render aid but after birthing the young girl leaves the baby with them, so Roshan and Brenna end up with a baby to raise.
It was a happy ending story and everyone is content with their new lives.
***NOTE MY REVIEWS OFTEN CONTAIN SPOILERS*** In defense of this book I will say that the first time I read it I remember not being able to put it down, but that was also shortly after it was published in 2005 or 2006 so it's been a while since I first read this book. I don't know if my reading interests have changed or if I've become more jaded or what, but the second time around it definitely wasn't a page turner for me.
Roshan is a vampire on the edge of suicide when he starts reading a book about an accused witch who was burned at the stake, the drawing of the woman captures him and he becomes obsessed with the notion of saving her. He used his powers to travel back in time and save the beautiful Brenna Flannagan.
This time reading it the spark between the two characters just wasn't real for me. It was also very difficult for me to relate to the female lead because her though process was like a child almost rather than an adult woman. Another thin that just didn't' work for me is that Brenna didn't seem that surprised, impressed or scared about the differences between her time and ours.
While Brenna is asserting her new found odd sort of independence in the 21st century she meets a coven a witches at a book store. Unlike her own form of witch craft these witches practice dark magic and are working to discover the secret to eternal life - the immortality of a vampire without any of the downfalls. Of course she doesn't know that when she meets them. I found it hard to believe the character didn't sense any of the darkness within her new friends and her unwavering trust in complete strangers after having almost been burned at the stake in her own time is highly unbelievable for me.
Brenna also never seems to know what she wants and her decisions for the most part are made for her rather than by her, she spends most of her time reacting rather than acting and as a reader I find it hard to feel for a person like that.
The book does have some very amusing scenes as well as it's share of exciting, dangerous and racy ones. Overall it's not a bad book, I just don't recommend reading it twice.
286 year old vampire Roshan DeLongpre is just about to end his existence when he sees Brenna Flanagan's picture in a book describing her execution for witchcraft.
From that moment he's fixated on her life, death and a way to save her life.
Surprising even himself, he finds himself back in her time, a night before her scheduled execution. Unfortunately, Brenna isn't too eager to believe what Roshan is telling her. She's never had any trouble from the town people. Multiple occasions have occurred where they have come for her help.
Yet like clockwork, the mob shows the next night and they barley escape back to the present in time.
Now Brenna has to accept Roshan being a vampire and get used to the 21st century. Although Roshan life has come to revolve around her, it takes her a little longer to accept him for what he is and feel safe in his presence.
As she's exploring the town during the day, she comes across a wiccan coffee/bookstore. There she's introduced to Anthony Loken. When Roshan meets him, he instantly feels negative energy and tries to warn Brenna away from him, but just gaining her independence, this backfires and makes her gravitate to Loken more. Luckily she isn't blind either and learns for herself he's true side when he reveals his quest to find a vampire to 'better humans'.
As their relationship grows to love, Brenna request marriage be the next step, as she cannot simply live in sin with him. Its quickly planned and performed by a vampire.
Unknowingly, her maid of honor is with Loken and both are captured. Roshan for him blood and Brenna as a test subject to see how the blood mixes with her. Weak, they are able to save the other, but during the day she's captured once again.
Finding her, he doesn't waste time killing him, but an earlier gunshot wound has left Brenna on the brink of death.
Not losing her, he changes her over and faces her wrath the next night. Giving her time, she finally comes to grip and accepts her condition fully.
9 months later, the come upon a teenager giving birth. Threatening to throw the baby away if they don't take it, Brenna gets the baby she always wanted.
I had originally written a much longer review in appreciation for this novel, but while I was writing it my laptop shut off on me and I lost everything, and I have little time to write an appropriate review.
I really enjoyed this one. I have read the rest of the novels of this series, but for some reason or another, I have been unable to get my hands on this one; so I was very happy to have found it as an ebook.
Contains spoilers! Read at your own risk!
One thing that irked me during reading this was Roshan constantly switching between referring to being turned into a vampire as, 'The Dark Trick,' and 'The Dark Gift.' Is it a gift, or a dark trick? I didn't like that bit, since I found it confusing. The first time that popped up, I thought it was a mishap, but it's not. Another thing that bothered me a bit, was Roshan's ability to time travel back in time to save Brenna Flanagan the witch, whom he saw as a drawing in a book and obsessed over. I find it unrealistic, even though he is a vampire and capable of other abilities, time travelling seems a little far fetched and out of reach. Compared to other vampires, in context, they don't have this ability. I understand that the time travelling is a big necessity for the story line, but I just found that it didn't quite fit right.
Despite that, this definitely deserves 5 stars. I enjoyed reading this from beginning to end.

Man or beast, I'm neither Yet of both I am a part The beast dwells within my soul The man, amongst the ruins of my heart…
The beast so hideous a thing The man but an empty shell Awaiting salvation that never comes Existing in eternal hell…
I long to see the sun again As I long for love's embrace But just as love can never be mine The sun will never warm my face…
Lonely is my dark existence I am cursed to roam the night Though I feed to quell the hunger I am starving for love and light…

*deep sigh*
This is my 100th book in 2010. I wish this book were one that I'd spot revamp in the next years. If only I could give it more than 2 stars. There were moments when I longed for a spell which would prevent the author from itemizing colors and their meaning, herbs and their usage.... She did excellent work in researching but was it really important for the story? NO!
It's been long since I read about a stereotyped vampire who even wears a cape. Or a good witch with red hair. It was sweet and romantic but it was a long way until it became sweet and romantic.

This book relies a little too much on 'book magic' for me.
A vampire is about to kill himself when he sees a picture of a woman who 'gives him the will to live', but she died hundreds of years ago so he decides to learn to time travel to save her. With a little research (and a few infodumps - I mean really does it matter what color each day of the week is?) he travels back to the past - getting it perfectly right the first time (magic!) to meet his dream woman who speaks perfectly understandable modern English (more magic!) and save her by spiriting her away to the future.
Then we meet the villain, who Brenna doesn't think is a villain, though Roshan can tell right away he's evil. How coincidental that they happen across another vampire, who gets killed by the villain, so Roshan can find his body and prove the villain is evil - and all on the same night (magic!).
When Brenna wants to get married - and Roshan just happens to know a vampire priest who magically appears (with witness) to marry them then disappears just as quickly. Then Brenna wants a child and they just happen across a teenager giving birth to give them her baby and run away. Why? Because BOOK MAGIC!!!!!

Roshan is desperate to end his life, because he thinks he has lived to long. So while browsing in a book he runs into a picture of Brenan Flannagan. Roshan is blown away with the likeness of his wife in this picture. So with new meaning in his life, Roshan finds a way to go back in time to save Brenan from burning at the stake for being a witch. When Roshan takes her back to his time Brena is scared of him because she doesn't know what he is. When he reveals to her what she is Brena is even more scared of him. But as time goes on Brena learns the ways of Roshan's time and gets used to his weird ways. But an evil is after them and also their issues as their love grows into something that can't be destroys. Lets see if they can make it and defeat whatever is trying to destroy them. Because you know when you take something out of a timeline, there is bound to be trouble.
After suffering through my first Amanda Ashley book, Bound by Blood, I promised that I would stop reading any book after the third use of the word, "preternatural".
Well this author used it 3 times in the first chapter so I stopped reading.
When you are writing about vampires, it is okay to give them any power you want. But to keep reminding us that the power is preternatural, well "no duh!"
One of my faves is the idiotic ability to make cloths disappear, but it is vampire romance and you need a way to end those chapters on the same note, book after book, year after year.
Okay, the book was written in 2005, still no excuse, but my rule was made based on a 2011 book by this same author. 3 strikes and you are out.
An intersting take on the typical Vampire romance... he travels through time to save a woman he saw being burned at the stake in a history book. Excellent detail and clearly well researched. I was caught off gaurd a few times. The author has a tallent for creating empathy, suspense, and momentum. I was pleasantly surprised.
I only picked this book up because the one I had ordered wasn't in yet. I didn't plan to read the next book but I have already put it on reserve.
I put off starting a new series because I'm already wrapped up in so many other ones but I'm so glad I did! This book was simply just a good read. Nothing too complex, vampire plus mortal = love but there was a little bit of time travel to spice things up. Roshan was so wonderful and loving and I really loved Brenna she was so sweet and innocent but still strong. I don't know much about this series but I'm hoping their story gets continued.
This book was amazing! I am not a fan of time travel or the like, but it was just gorgeous in this book. Amanda Ashley made the time travel flow in the book. I am actually surprised about how much I liked the book. I couldn't put it down. I recommend this book to all people who enjoy romance/ vampire/ supernatural books. If you have doubts if you should read this book, you should. It is worth all the time you put in and doesn't waste you time like some books do.
It started out dull, and in my mind with useless information..info that didn't lead into anything else. Enjoyed the ending. The useless information could have been space uses to help develop the characters background more or even some more dialogue from them. How did they fall in love, they rarely even spoke. I'm just saying, but I finished it in a day so it was defiantly at least a 4 star book.
Do you love witches and vampires ??? Then this is the book for you. What a fabulous journey I had through Time into the past to 2005 .So many twists and turns one minute you are sitting on the edge of your seat in anticipation the next you are swooning with heartwarming romance . Well worth the time to sit back and enjoy. I know you will enjoy the story as I did .
This is a vampire romance with a difference. The baddy in this one is a very nasty witch. Our hero sees a picture of a beautiful witch who was burned at the stake 300yrs in the past. He decides to try to travel back in time to rescue her. Our heroine is a witch brought into modern time by a vampire. She has lots to learn and lots to fear.
Vampires. Witches. Romance. Roshan DeLongpre sees a witches picture in a history book an instantly falls in love. Can he save her from the witch trials? Is there a bigger feat ahead of them? Find out in this action packed romance novel by Amanda Ashley!
Strange type of time travel book. Vampire of now times and reads about a woman burned a the stake for being a witch. He travels time to save her and then she is with him in the present. Very interesting book.
Absolutely LOVED this book. The ending is a tad lackluster, but I was willing to deal with it because the ride the book took me on was worth it. Well written, okay flow to it. I think I want to read more of her books!
This was a lovely book of paranomral romance. A vampire falls in love with a witches photograph in a history book, he becomes so obsesed he figures out how to time travel and brings her back to the modern world.
AHHH!! Another totally awesome vampire book!! It was much better than Dead Perfect, it had a happy ending just like a fairy tale!!! Roshan and Brenna belong together!!!
