You know a book is good when you ask your six year-old if they want to read another chapter together and they say "Yeah!" with gusto. My son really likes these and I do too. They make him laugh out loud and the mysteries are compelling for the chapter-book set. My favorite thing about them is how the kids *aren't* snarky or sassy with grown-ups.

One of the first chapter books I remember reading on my own. My first-grade teacher started reading it to us, but even at six years old I was impatient to know what happens, so my dad took me out to buy it at the book store. He made me read a few pages just to make sure I could actually read it and wasn't memorizing from what the teacher had read. I remember that so well! :)

🧩synopsis:
Jigsaw Jones finds himself investigating the perfect case and piecing together all the ghostly clues when Ralphie Jones cannot sleep at night because something is making scary noises in his room.

🧩thoughts:
I loved this series as a kid! I had a few from the Scholastic book fair that got lost over the years so when I saw one I used to own at a library book sale for 50 cents I had to get it for nostalgia! The kids still crack me up in this series, the dialogue is just fantastic. And there is always a learning lesson in them (this one it was nocturnal animals). I'll definitely pick up more at used book sales as I find them!

My favorite part of the book is when Ralphie Jordan`s brother comes into his room and says, "You don't wanna hear a scary story do you?" Ralphie and Jigsaw want to hear the story. Ralphie's brother tells them that one day a man died at their house. His brother fills a glove with mud and puts it and two grapes in a box and says, "In this box is the flesh of the dead man's body." This story was spooky but it had a good ending because the case was solved. Mila sees a shape moving in Ralphie`s yard.

I only read the first 2 chapters with Rose. One night at bedtime she said, "Mom, you know how you say that I can read without you? I'm going to read this book without you." She proceeded to just finish the whole book (staying up past her bedtime), occassionally emitting "Wow!" or a sigh of delight. She was shocked that there wasn't really a ghost, only a teenage prankster. It was a joy to see her love sustained solitary reading so much, and to be floored by a "twist". I love seeing her discover the world; in this case, a literary trope that for many of us is a cliche was to her a revolution.

I’ve been going through books from my childhood, trying to decide which ones are worth keeping. I had to reread this one because I couldn’t remember it at all. About a little boy detective who solves everyday mysteries of the people around him. A super fast read and I actually smiled a few times. It’s cute, but the story was too superficial without any underlying morals and the characters weren’t memorable. Sadly, I will be donating this one.

Borrowed from a little free library, and read to my son. It's a cute little kid's book. This book 4, but it seems to be ok to read out of order. Will be looking for others in the series to read to Little Panda.

This is the fourth book in the Jigsaw Jones series of mysteries by James Preller. Our youngest really likes them; she says they remind her of the Nate the Great stories, which she also loves.

This story was fairly simple and straightforward, but we liked the plot. It's not a Halloween story, but with a ghostly theme, it's a good time of year to read this book. It was a fun story to read aloud and we enjoyed reading it together.

In this Jigsaw Jones Mystery book; his friend thinks his house is haunted. So he hires Jigsaw to figure things out. In the meantime at school they learn about naucturnal animals and what they do and survive. And after the class takes a field trip and they learn more (and the listener-reader does too) Jigsaw puts some of those lessons to use to help close this case! The ending isn't really what you expect!

Something is making spooky noises at night, keeping little Ralphie Jordan awake. It's the perfect case of Jigsaw Jones, but will it turn out to be more then he bargained for?

This was super cute. I read this to my 4 year old and he laughed through most of it. Now he wants the rest of the Jigsaw Jones Mysteries!

This was a very good book and I highly suggest it for adults as well as kids. Sometimes as adults we forget how fun kids books are, until maybe we are reading one to them and we think, hey, this isn't too bad :)

Preller has just the right mixture of content, so that whether your 6 or 60, you will love this book.

One day at Jigsaw's school, Ralphie comes over and tells him there's a ghost at his house. Jigsaw has a sleepover with Ralphie because the ghost only comes out at night. They catch the ghost, only it's not a real ghost. It was someone else, but I'm not telling!

I read this in elementary school. I liked his stories a great deal. I think my local library carries some of these books - would love to revisit his stories sometime.

A mystery is upon us and Jigsaw is the guy for it. As the fourth book in the series, I must say that I truly enjoyed reading it. I would recommend it for young readers, with a thing for mysteries.

Ralphie thinks his house is haunted so he hires his friend Jigsaw Jones to come and investigate. They end up solving the mystery after piecing all of the information together. A lesson on investigating would be really cute with this book. How to piece information together to form an opinion or get to the truth. The setting is at Ralphies house.
