When I say that he broke my heart, what I really mean is that he did something that I wouldn’t do to my worst enemy.
I hate Sam Clarke. I hate him for leaving me, and now for trying to enter back into my life.
Yes, he left me for another woman. A woman he thought was pregnant with his baby. He didn’t just leave me, he also decided to marry that liar.
Well, his life is ruined… and I won’t let him do the same to mine. Being born in a wealthy family doesn’t give him the green light to come and go as he pleases.
I’ve built a new life for myself since our breakup. I cannot allow him to waltz back into my reality and screw everything up… especially as my competitor in business.
Holiday season is the best time to show Sam that I’ve moved on. And I’ll prove to myself that I don’t love him anymore. I don’t… right?

Slight spoilers. this is a second chance and the MMC left the FMC when his ex girlfriend showed up with a newborn. They were engaged, ready to move (like literally packing) when the ex knocks. He talks with ex , then walks into back into kitchen and says hey she just had a baby, says it’s mine so imma do the right thing and move back home to NY with her and the baby instead of you. Yes, just like that no discussion. Fast forward five years…… he isn’t with the ex so when he sees the FMC he tries to get with FMC again. Lots of blah blah blah in between middle of book. Friends with benefits blah blah. Then towards the end FMC flies to NY for thanksgiving with his family and lo and behold the ex is there with the five year old. Now hold on a sec….. you’re thinking “what’s the problem?” Lots of exes share holidays when there is a a child involved. BUT it’s revealed that just two months after taking the ex and the infant back home to his mommy and daddy five years ago, the ex had fessed up and said hey btw this three month old isn’t actually your kid….. She ruined his life with the love of his life YET his family “adopts” Her and the child as “family” and invites them to family holidays……….. NOPE. Heck nah!!!! If That happens to my son there is no way in heck imma forge a relationship with the blankity blank blank who did that to him. And why develop ongoing bond with the child having them call them grandma and all?? It isn’t like this was found out years later and bonds are already formed. Just NO. So back to five years later, when the MMC and FMC make that trip back to NY to share thanksgiving with his family, they don’t think to tell the ex don’t come this year???!!! The ex has moved to Boston, out of their lives let her stay that way!!!!!! The MMC didn’t even think she would be there. And let’s not talk about how he too seems to have adopted the ex and the baby like family too like a sister because after all the ex was a good person except for that one little lie about him being a father for two months……you know, just long enough to ruin his life supposedly?? They didn’t even sleep together those five years ago or to try to have a relationship during those two months after he moved her to NY. (So why did he break up with FMC??) This entire plot line was just simply ignorant lazy writing….. Even if FMC was last minute guest add on to thanksgiving as a mom hostess why would you screw up your first time meeting the love of your sons life by having that ex that broke them up with lies and then expect the FMC to be happy to have her at the thanksgiving table?? The FMC will be your sons wife. She will be the mother of your grandchildren (btw of course FMC just happens to find out she is pregnant during all this) MMC mom Make a choice!!!!!!!! The right one!!!! Instead MMC mom expects FMC to just roll over and accept it all? Just pick up the phone and say heyyyyyyy ex…..stay in Boston good luck in life. But nope! Full speed ahead!! Does this writer just write words to make the reader angry? I will never never never read anything from them again. Simply because real moms wouldn’t ever act this foolish to “adopt” a lying ex who ruined their sons life and real life social constructs don’t happen like that. Has the writer ever saw a movie? Do they have family? Who would allow that ex situation to be handled like that for five years?? The second I knew my son was done dirty like that his ex is blocked for life. I’m not going to bring the ex and her infant into my family when he doesn’t even want them??? Like huh?? This isn’t even an ex his family knew!!! He is going to get married one day and his future wife wouldn’t appreciate this situation and even in the book it says he was “mad at ex for awhile”……… but MMC family develops relationship with this lying ex? Nah… Also The FMC was made to feel wrong by her friend and family for being resistant to the fiancée wanting to reconcile with her, yeah with the guy who left her in middle of move for another woman, even after she said she would be a stepmom. My daughter? He would lucky to not be missing after that… I’m not going to make nice with him and tell her to reconcile!!!! Also, this one zero star rating is without even mentioning MMC visited vegas AFTER he and FMC reunited, made love but she was still resisting him and he tried with two different women to get laid to forget her but oh woe is him he just couldn’t seal the deal with them? So it’s ok because he backed out on way to hotel room???? How is All of this supposed to make the readers think he was redeemable? That he hadn’t slept with ex after abandoning fiancée (would have made more sense if he had??? I mean look what he gave up to build family with ex???) but yet he slept with lots of hookups in the five years in between, and also tried sleeping with two women after being with FMC again. Unredeemable MMC, doormat FMC, horrible FMC friends, horrible MMC family. Just horrible 🤷🏼♀️👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
Note to self. Hero leaves fiancé and love of his life when his ex comes to him w a newborn claiming it’s his. Drops her like a hot pocket and never looks back.
He moves away to be w ex. 2 mo later finds out the baby isn’t his. But DOESNT GO AFTER THE h.
He manwhores around for 5 years and BUMPS into the h by chance…. And decides he wants her back.
After they are intimate but she isnt ready to accept him back yet he goes to vegas and “tries” to sleep with 2 woman but just “can’t”…. But not for a lack of trying.
She gives him a chance only to find out that the H and his whole family have a close relationship with his ex and the kid. They love her. Who cares that she lied but hey, the H obviously didn’t love the h cause it’s not like he stayed celibate or went after her. So they are all good.
Who the fuck labels this as a romance? What BS and all the arc readers and paid reviews in the world can’t save this book.
Hero is a man-baby where nothing is ever his fault, and he's the eternal victim. If she stubs her toe, he broke his foot. If she has a headache, he has a migraine.
Shocked once again that a woman writes a heroine who's supposed to just suck it up now that her fiancé is back and wants her. Same fiancee that dumped her five years ago for his sekret baby. Turns out the baby wasn't his after all so where has he been the past five years?
Plus why didn't she sue her evil, spiteful grandfather for stealing her trust fund and bad mouthing her so she can't get a job? It's not like he used it to buy someone a kidney.
Kate was right to be pissed at Sam and I hated how everyone, including him, expected her to get over it and take him back. I know its been 5 years but she hasnt seen him since he left her for the ow, so ofcourse the hurt is fresh.
I also hated the last part, how the situation switched to him being seemingliy wronged by her.

I’m sorry but I just cannot understand how this book has so many 5 star reviews. It was terrible. Sam was a horrible MMC. He was egotistical and spoiled. Kate was absolutely right for not wanting to forgive him. The fact that all of her friends and brother tried to take his side, ridiculous. We all know from the title Kate gets pregnant. The fact that Sam DITCHED her when they were newly engaged to be with his ex because she just had “his” baby. When he finds out Kate is pregnant he treats her like shit. Nope, I really wish I could scrub my brain of ever having read this.

Once again I’m burned by a NA storyline, but honestly, shouldn’t 26/27 year olds be beyond high school level behavior?
Both are immature, he thinks an apology should open the door to her trust—she doesn’t have to forgive, she doesn’t have to listen, but she also doesn’t need treacherous body syndrome.
Too many characters, too little real communication.
And, can anyone explain why he didn’t get on a plane 2 months after their break up to explain and ask for forgiveness??
I managed to finish this one. But just barely. The first third of the book has multiple instances where characters are misnamed; making the flow really choppy and requiring rereading to figure out who actually said what. This is the story of a girl who was gaslit and pressured by every friend and member of her family to forgive someone who hurt and betrayed her. And even though she starting forgiving him it wasn’t going fast enough for him.
Kate meets Sam at a party in college and they have an instant connection. Things are going great for them, they're engaged and moving in together. Then his ex Sandra shows up telling him that she had his kid and within like 5 minutes, Sam ends things with Kate to be with his ex. Just tells her he's marrying his ex, Sandra and leaving to be with her because she had his baby. Boom. Done.
Even better we find out about 2 months after that, Sam finds out the baby isn't his. So does he go after Kate? Nope.
FIVE YEARS goes by! They run into each other again when he is in town to start a business and he is at her business with friends. Sam immediately wants Kate back and doesn't get why she doesn't just fall on his pen-is. He pushes her ridiculously hard. To be fair Sam does try to tell Kate several times what happened with Sandra but Kate shuts him up and I don't blame her.
Then basically the rest of the book almost to the end is drama, repetitive sEx, tedious accusations and miscommunication, soap opera worth side plots, lying and gaslighting. Even better after sleeping with Kate again, Sam tries to sleep with two other women and just "can't". It's disgusting.
Kate finally gives Sam a real chance and flies to his family's house for Thanksgiving. Unknown to her, Sandra is there with her now 5 year old daughter because to Sam and his entire family, this crazy ex who lied about having his kid is FAMILY. They LOVE them. They SUPPORT them. Sam helped buy his ex who lied about a baby not being his A FREAKING HOUSE.
Oh yeah and Kate not liking that? Sam treats her like garbage and so does his family! And spoiler alert Kate is pregnant.
Not a great book. Not a romance. Not a great second chance.

Very disappointing. Sam had to be the dumbest guy ever written. So him and Kate are engaged but then an ex shows up with a baby claiming it is his. Instead of asking for a DNA test or offering child support or something he breaks it off with Kate and runs off to play family. Well guess what? 5 yrs later he is back like oh my ex lied (gasp no really) Im not the father so can you take me back now. She does (rolls eyes). What else bothers me is Sam's family depsite knowing what his ex did still treats her like family and expects kate to be ok with having the ex over for the holidays. Really????? If someone did that to my son I am not adopting the liar and her child and expecting my son and his girl to be like ok we are all happy family. Why would the author even think this? Not sure I'll ever buy a book of hers again. Not my style.
I was going to start this off by saying it’s probably a me thing, but that’s a line I’ve used way to often of late The premise of this book had me intrigued and should have hooked me but didn’t Sam was just a big sap and it just missed the mark for me. The conflict was just childish and now my eyes hurt from rolling them so much Sorry but it just didn’t work for me
The reason I started reading this (besides the excerpt) was that a couple of reviews said it was ultra angsty. Heavy angst is what draws me in most to a book. However it wasn't uber angsty, it was more on the low end of medium. Just enough to keep me interested, but still wishing for more.
As for the characters... I loved Sam. Yes, he made a huge mistake, but he truly felt he was taking the right action at the time, even if it was at the expense of breaking Kate's heart and his own heart. He should have taken some time to think about all of his options before he made that choice, but... hindsight and all. I very much appreciated that he kept trying different ways to make it up to Kate. He didn't just try once and let it go. He kept trying. But there is a limit he should have stopped at. Around 46% I started to feel like he was being a doormat for Kate and just taking whatever she dished out every time and I felt that he was getting his heart and spirit crushed more and more.
As for Kate, she went through so much after Sam left her. More than Sam knows and more than she's willing to tell him. So I understand the pain she feels and the fact that she can no longer trust him not to break her heart again. But at around 46% I actually came to a point where I started to get pissed off at her. She repeatedly (and I don't mean a couple times, I mean so many times I actually lost count) refused to let him tell her what happened between him and Sandra and that was information that could have thawed her heart or at least swayed it a bit. So at almost 1/2 way through the book there is still only speculation of what happened between Sam and Sandra. Speculations like She also repeatedly used him for sex while keeping her heart closed off. Sam genuinely thought the first couple times they slept together, they were making progress only for her to say something cutting and walk away again. It ticked me off that he was trying so hard and being so honest with her and she did nothing but use him for sex and then close off her heart again.
By 60% I started skimming. By then it was just a lot of sex and the same reruns of the same arguments that had already been hashed over to death again and again and again throughout the book. They made no true progress whatsoever in their relationship until about 90%.
After finishing the story I felt like the book had no imagination. The same actions, the same lines, the same excuses, even the same sex acts (with no variation to spice things up) were all just on repeat.
Even though I adore Sam's twin, Max, and would love to read his story I imagine it will be just like this one. Wash, rinse, repeat. In all, it was good for a one time read, but definitely not in my reread list.
I like the writing there was angst and a strong heroine, what I didn’t like was that the family still had the OW in their family that they would “adopt”a woman that lied and caused so much pain to their son was not believable if it was my son I would have kicked her out and maybe give her some money ,liked the ending and there was a lot of groveling by the H .

Fiancé dumps her for his ex who claims she had his baby. Never gets a paternity test just drops his fiancé after a 30 minute conversation and the belief that the ex is telling the truth and decides to do the right thing by her.
Five years later he’s back! And they immediately start having sex after the second encounter. Of course she suffers from BBS and hates that she caves but does it again and again and again..
he’s a huge insufferable man child who whines that she isn’t forgiving him so quickly. Gives up on winning her back because she’s still angry with him and decides to buy the bar by her business and makes plans to build a club that could potentially put her out of business. Runs away to Vegas to drink and screw her out of his system. He is so immature and not worth having. Really dislike the mmc
Of course every single friend and family member tells her she needs to get over her heartache because he’s seems sincere and she deserves to be happy. Not a single person is 100% on her side. Maybe the brother but again it’s always backhanded. “I hate him and want to kick his ass for hurting you.. but really Sis you should forgive Sam you seem sad.”
Get fucked. Why do authors do this? Why do they create these secondary characters who do nothing but minimize and gaslight. Eyeroll
Also.. the entire book she screams and stomps her foot to not be told ANYTHING about the ex and baby. But not once does the fmc get curious and wonder….. am I fucking a married man? Is he cheating on her with me? I mean…. Every other woman would think this and question his relationship status. But no she just assumes it didn’t work out. Like are you truly just going to trust this guys integrity?
But get this.. she then flies back to have thanksgiving with his family and the ex is there with the child. They’ve been “adopted” into his family…… like his mom just expects the fmc to sit down and accept this woman. The same woman who lied and manipulated him about the paternity and ruined her son’s relationship and happiness is now like a sister to him and they love her.. lol again get fucked… hell no I’m walking my ass out. Red FLAGS, RED FLAGS WAVING
Anyways.. I hate BBS. I hate the man baby mmc. I hate the fmc for having no strength and gave into sex with him so soon. I hate the misconception/miscommunication trope. Like the grinch says.. hate hate hate hate

H and h are in love but he dumps her immediately when his ex shows up with his baby. Years later they reunite and H wants a second chance. This story could have been SO good. It had a great plot but just some really annoying issues that’s brought it down to 3 stars.
Pros: Heroine did not forgive him easily and has a super successful career years later. She wasn’t celibate. She made him work for forgiveness (almost to a fault though). I love soapy stories and this was up there!
Cons: But a lot of little things bugged me. This is one of those books that had too many sex scenes. It was full of empty filler scenes while too many questions went unanswered for way too long bc of poor communication. I think like 10 times the H tried telling her the truth about OW/baby but the h repeatedly said “it doesn’t matter” and then slept with him anyways. Which was SO stupid bc of course it contributed to the third act break up. In my opinion, the book should have been 100 pages shorter too. And lastly, I hated whatever weird friendship he had with OW. They haven’t been lovers since before he met the heroine years ago, but she kind of got adopted by his family (bc they are super altruistic or something) and that was weird considering what she did. Maybe I am just a bitch 🤷🏻♀️.
The fact that the “hero” and his family “adopted” the woman that tried to pass a baby as his, and in doing so caused him to lose “the love of his life” and live in misery is so fucking stupid

Me dio demasiada rabia que la familia de él considerase a la weona mentirosa de la ex como familia y que la protagonista se lo tenga que bancar como si nada.
This is a well written book with strong characters and an emotional storyline. The author brings all the feels as she takes you on Sam and Kate's journey. She moves the story fluidly with her perfectly painted scenes and delivers a sweet and sexy romance. I enjoyed reading their story.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this collection. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
While I enjoyed the writing style in this story I couldn’t stand the hero or any of her friends. At all. Her brother was kinda okay but even he rubbed me the wrong way.
After the H betrayed her so badly 5 years prior he blindsides her again and then has the audacity to be angry when she’s hurt. I truly wish she’d ended up with a new H.
Oh where to begin. Let me get this straight, Sam loves the h sooooo much that he proposes, she accepts, they are packing to move, an ex-girl friend enters claiming Sam is her baby's father and WHAM, goodbye Kate. Five years later, Sam cannot understand why the Kate is not over joyed at accepting his apology since he was only trying to do the right thing in ditching her. What a man child!
Slowly he earns her trust again and they plan to visit his parents who are the dumbest. They 'adopt' the interloper who destroyed their son with lies and even invite her to their holiday knowing Sam is bringing Kate! Really, these are parents who need a serious reality check.
So, Sam puts OW ahead of Kate, check. His parents put OW ahead of future daughter in law, check. Naw. Gave it three stars which is 2.5 rounded up because of the writing....only.
It is Halloween night, and instead of staying in to study, Kate Wheatly is in a bad 1980s teen movie. Kate was at an off-campus party with her roommate. She promised, Kate she wouldn’t ditch her. But, the minute they arrived, Janell saw her crush, and she forgot her promise to, Kate. So, Kate decides to go out into the backyard and hang out a while, before just leaving. That's where she meets, Sam Clarke, dressed in his, Captain America costume. Holy smokes, he was hot. On his first guess, he knew what her thrown-together costume was, ‘Alice in Wonderland, right?’
Sam asked, Kate if she wanted a beer but she said no she was more of a cocktails or wine girl everything they wouldn’t have there. Sam said but the family bar did. They braved the walk, going through the crowds of people, and got to the bar. Sam mixed them martinis. Then, he grabbed the, Gin, and they went to talk on the front porch. They talked about how they are both getting degrees in business but at rival colleges in, LA. They talked about their brothers and how close they were to them. Sam told her he had a younger sister, too.
He said he’d recently broken up with his girlfriend of a year, and this year, he wanted to have a good time. For Kate, that meant he wanted to play the field. She was okay with that. She didn’t want a relationship either. Then he asked to kiss her. She asked, “Why?”Because I want to. Don’t you want to?” “Maybe. What about your goal to sow your oats?” “You said you weren’t looking for a relationship either.” Kate pulled him closer. “Okay.” Then he asked her how she felt about hookups. For clarity, she says, ‘Are you asking me to hook up with you?’ ‘More than taking my next breath.’ ‘Here on this Swing Seat on the porch?’ ‘He says remember I no longer have a roommate so we can go there.’ Kate says, ‘Okay.’
They explore each other and they have a wonderful time. So, good he doesn't want her to leave. He asks her to stay the night. Then, the weekend. Sam was funny and sweet and smart. He was from a prominent rich family, but he didn’t put on the airs that so many rich people did. When the weekend ended, she was head over heels in love with him. Luckily for her, he was, too. By Thanksgiving, she had moved in with him, and when, May rolled around, my plans to find a job with my family’s company had changed. I was going to, New York with, Sam. They attended his graduation first then, hers a week later. After her graduation, he took her to the beach got on one knee, and proposed.
The week before they were to move to New York, a knock on the door changed their lives in the worst way. They went from utter bliss to the depths of despair. With the news, he was given, Kate was willing to stand by his side. Instead, he threw their love away like it was nothing. She offers to help him through the experience and to be by his side. Instead, he broke off their engagement and walked away with no discussion. Now, five years have passed and he wants a chance with her. He wants her back. This was such a good story, on how important communication is to a relationship.

Thankful for Us ended up being a sweet romance once Kate and Sam learned how to communicate. Until then it would have been easy to strangle Kate since she put impediments in their way throughout.
The prologue which takes place five years before the story begins really gave a sense of what the story would be about. The book had many stories being told and it was especially nice to catch up with characters we've met before. The different storylines were woven together nicely and added depth. There was a good flow and lots of details. The story is told from either Kate or Sam's point of view in alternating chapters.
There was some steaminess and hot moments as well as sweet ones that showed how the main characters cared for each other but also how some of the supporting characters were there for them as well. There was a happily ever after that was nicely portrayed in the epilogue and it really rounded out the story nicely. Epilogue Two is from Sam's twin brother Max's perspective and leads us into the next book in the series, The Vegas Bluff. I can't wait to read it next!.

Once again Ajme has a way to draw you into her story with intriguing characters and plotlines. This one follows Sam Clarke and Kate Wheatly. They had a history and even a future that was intense, passionate, loving yet imploded when his ex-girlfriend stormed back in his life proclaiming her baby was his. He dropped Kate and their dreams without a second thought and broke her heart and trust. Now five long years later he runs into her only her heart is closed off. Can the two of them learn to open their hearts or will hurt, anger and miscommunication keep them apart? Absolutely loved this storyline and the characters even if some of them were pigheaded, jaded and stubborn at times.
It has drama, heartache, anger, humor, passion, misunderstandings, forgiveness and above all else love.
I received an ARC from the author via Booksprout for my honest review and highly recommend this book.
Love the writing. The storyline was great and my heart broke for Kate . she had her life with Sam planned out and then the unthinkable happen his ex showed up with his daughter and he left her high and dry to do the right thing .. So here is why I only gave it a 4.. First he was in love with Kate so to leave her and have a family with Sandra and Chelsea was never going to work yet he told her he had to go , he takes Sandra home where he is heart broken and she tells him she lied and the baby is bit his, she just knew be didn't turn her away. His family basically settled her and her daughter even knowing she lied and destroyed Sams life WTF.. Who would do that for the person that lied to their son.. Then to invite Sandra and her daughter to Thanksgiving dinner knowing its the first time Kate is going to be there was thoughtless and cruel and to say she has to learn to accept it is BS.. She should have ran and never looked back
reddit revenge's story was soo much better than this. had this book taken a plot in the medieval time whre there is No DNA test, then it's ok. but this was publish in 2022. my god. and w/today's economy, who in the effing right mind just believing your ex when she showed up at your door and told you "hey, this baby is yours". and you just "oh, ok. i'll be responsible and let's get married". and latter when the baby mama confessed that this is not yours., instead of making a police report, you fam then just kinda adopted the baby mama and this some guy's baby as their grand kid. what an awesome fam. yeah. nope. also, what does it like being betrayed by your SO, leaving behind and he getting marrying the OW, only for a couple of years latter when you are in your bestest career, but then taken back the a-h#le ex back. bcoz your body have all this weakend knees symptoms whenever he's near. maybe goes to the doctor?
Kate meets Sam at a party in college and they have an instant connection. Things are going great for them and then his ex shows up telling him about a baby she had that was his. It Takes Patience, Understanding And Communication - The story had me on quite a whirlwind of a chaotic journey that was Sam and Kate’s relationship. The rollercoaster of emotions they went through included witty banter and steamy encounters, as well as some very intense and heated moments too. I was glued to the pages, whilst on the edge of my seat, as I rooted for them to finally get the happily ever after they always wanted. It would take a life event and the possibility of Kate losing Sam, for her to find the courage to take a chance of letting her guard down. Their story was compelling, engaging and so addictive. You will be happy you read it.

This book was absolutely fantastic and will have you hooked from the beginning until the end and the storyline flowed throughout the book. Kate never believed in soulmates or love until she met Sam and soon they were inseparable until his ex showed up with a child and that's the day he destroyed her heart and soul. Kate not only lost her fiance but her grandfather also cut her out of the family's money. Now years later she doesn't date or trust anyone especially men but one day the man who destroyed her shows up but can she ever forgive and forgive and give him another chance? Or is to late for them?.
