Hired to skin a baby, get the hair from an eagle, and the eggs from the recently deceased - or something like that, anyway - Cole is back on the case.
In the midst of his governmentally mandated annual psychiatric evaluation (which he’ll pass without question, pfft) Alex finds himself working for a witch, a scorned lover, and a mob boss ... dealing only in absolutes and with the aid of his friend. Roger.
Alex Cole - part private investigator, part mercenary - no job too violent, no fee too big, no moral unbendable. Paranormal and interdimensional work accepted. Deities slain. Reasonable rates.
Consider this a trigger warning for just about everything.
Out all of Ash’s characters Alex Cole is one of my favourites. There's no case to big, small or paranormal -y for Alex. He's hilarious and ruthless and gets the job done sure he unconventional but that's what makes him special. Ash killed this Sick F**k novel.
This is by no means my first book by Ash, but it is my first time meeting Alex Cole from the Sick Fuck's books, and holy shit, what a guy!! Alex is hilarious, and ruthless! A horny, Quaver loving, green cross code abiding Private Investigator that loves bums almost as much as Richard Laymon! 😉 He's savage in his ways but has such a brilliantly charming personality! He's immediately become one of my all time favourite characters and I need to read more about him!
In this book we see Alex involved with several different cases, each one equally brutal and comedic! He starts off getting outwitted by a bunch of kids in an abandoned building, a big bunch of kids, but still, he makes them pay, in his own unique way! He has a way of dealing with things and of investigating that is all his own! Detectiving the only way he knows how! 😁
He goes on to investigate and deal with the Mayor's son, a battered wife, a trip to the zoo, and the Scarpini mob, amongst others, all mixed in with some witchcraft and a psychiatric evaluation. As long as it pays well, he'll do it! And when he gets caught in an uncompromising situation, he gains yet another, albeit unwilling, job that takes on a more bizarre, supernatural and messed up role. His morals are a bit lackadaisical but they sure do get him results!
Ash's prose is addictive and his short sharp sentences hit you in the face, one after the other, in quick succession, making this a really fast paced and immersive read! His narrative flows smoother than a smooth man's smooth bits, and keeps a tight grip on you the whole time. His humour is dark and witty and had me howling from beginning to end!
A full length Alex Cole novel is exactly what I needed in my life!
Having binge read the sick f*ck series, I had no idea that this full length gem was in the world and - oh my - it is fabulous!
In between mandatory psychiatric evaluations to retain his PI licence, Alex sticks to the day job - you know, digging up the untreated for their skin, fighting monkeys in the zoo, all while settling in his new flea bag pet - aptly named Roger as, like his new master, he will Roger anything that comes his way.
This is a sit down, shut out the world and read from cover to cover book. Absolutely fantastic!
This book is fun, gruesome, and absolutely HILARIOUS! Loved watching this main character bungle his way through such a grotesque and paranormal investigation. Ericmore has a knack for blending horror and comedy in a perfect, seamless way that provides maximum entertainment. I found myself laughing aloud at this one. Well worth the time to read. Though I haven't read a single dud by Ash yet, this one sticks out as being a particularly hilarious tale. If you are in the mood for some humor with your horror, Ash is literally the master of the art. 4.5 stars rounded up.
I love the Sick Fuck trilogy and Alex Cole is probably my favourite Ash Ericmore character (maybe tied with the many Small's) so I was very excited to find out we were getting a novel-length Alex Cole story...and the author did not disappoint! Yet another 5 star read, I loved every page of this! Brutal, gross and hilarious in equal measure. I definitely recommend anything by Ash if you like a little (read: a lot) of dark humour with your horror.
Oh that Ole Alex Cole guy can’t seem to keep himself out of trouble. Quick paced, violent and funny. I even had a few legit lol moments. Very enjoyable read.
Loved the Sick Fuck books and Alex Cole is one of my favorite characters in a book. Perfect for anyone who likes some dark humor with their horror. Definitely recommend!
