William Frederick ‘Buffalo Bill’ Cody (February 26, 1846 – January 10, 1917) was an American soldier, bison hunter and showman. He was born in Le Claire. The author was the popular romance writer Ned Buntline (nee Edward Zane Carroll Judson) who had met Cody earlier in Fort McPherson, Nebraska. This is the first of more than 1700 stories about Buffalo Bill.
