A useful guides of foods good and bad for the brain and to ease mental health issues. It's accessible but not very in-depth. The book is short though, which makes it a quick read, even if it is very dry. The cover is not very attractive and reflects the no-nonsense interior. This is a good guide to start looking up on various foods, like a dictionary, but not really something you will go back to once you have a little more knowledge. I also think book design has greatly improved in recent years and I expect a little more in terms of how visually pleasing a non-fiction book should be. I had also hoped for a few recipes to kickstart the whole eating better for your brain - but I guess this wasn't the point. This is a strict ingredient after ingredient list, it's your job next to find how to best incorporate them into your diet.
So 3 star book. I thought the book would be helpful for me but sadly it wasn't . I was only able to get half way through this book before I gave up on it. It simply wasn't keeping me into it. Found book on netgalley. Took a random chance on this. It may have not helped me but I'm sure it would help someone else.
I received a free copy of, Brain Food Handbook for Mental Health, by Amanda Foote, RD, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This book has a lot of helpful information on what to eat, and what to stay away from, for better mental health. I really like this book.
While there might be some valuable information for some, it just made me feel guilty for taking a few moments in an otherwise heavy day, to enjoy eating someone that probably isn't the best for my body, but is best for my soul. Perhaps if I was further ahead in my mental health journey it would have been more beneficial. The information about the link to food and mental health was great. Very clearly written and explaned. I received a copy via NetGalley and all opinions are my own.
Very basic intro to the effect of various food groups on mental health. Rather dry and I didn’t learn anything, but I read a lot on the subject. Large print. Does not give prescriptions per se for mental health needs, just sums up the bad and good of various types of food (helpful ones like fatty fish, nuts and colorful produce, harm from things like added sugar).
I received a review copy of this book from the publisher.
Tons of great information and tips for a more mindful eating lifestyle. I found this book to be pretty straightforward and helpful. The tips are easy to incorporate into your life.
