The Tricks of Training Your Brain

What a surprising read. This book is a little heavy if you think you’re going to pick it up and magically unlock your ability to improve your learning. This is not that kind of book. The author details the idea of memory and the various methods of retaining information. Initially, I thought the book was going to be a walk down familiar paths of memorization and close reading, but it offered insightful information into mnemonic devices and PAO systems as well as other methods of learning. Now, this is not a book that you read from cover-to- cover and suddenly you are a genius in training. The techniques offered require practice and patience. With time and lots of practice the author promises, implicitly, that anyone can improve their retention of information and having read the book from cover-to-cover I see the potential of practice of mnemonics and the half dozen systems offered to help better and improve memory and retention of information. Insightful information about memory.
