How do you hunt a monster when you can't remember his face? The author of Her Dark Past returns with a new novel of trauma, terror and missing memories . . .
Lisa walks in the woods on a regular basis. But this time when she emerges, she is badly injured. Her wedding ring is missing. And her memory of the event is blank.
Unsettled, she tells her husband that she was mugged by a young girl but insists he not call the police. It doesn't take long for fragments of the truth to come back, though, and when Lisa realises that she was assaulted by a man and left to die, she begins to live in fear, seeing threats everywhere she looks. What if he comes back for her--and she doesn't even recognise him? Even co-workers and neighbours could be suspects . . .
Soon, Lisa discovers she is not the only victim and becomes fixated on pursuing the perpetrator. But is she really prepared for the horrifying truth she is about to discover?
OBSESSED is a psychological suspense novel by Jane Heafield. Having really enjoyed her previous novels, I was anxious to start this one.

This is my review of Obsessed.
Lisa is a geocacher, a person who searches for hidden items using GPS coordinates online. She often walks alone late at night in the woods searching for treasures.
Lisa is married to Ted and they have an eight-year-old autistic son, Dan, who they both love and protect very much.
One night, out a pub where there was a birthday celebration for Lisa’s older sister, Maud, Lisa was attacked and raped in the woods, and nearly left for dead. She confides in her sister and tells her she was attacked by a teenage girl in the woods…and her wedding ring is now gone.
But Lisa can’t remember her attacker’s face, and her memory of the event is blank.
Ted and Maud had often warned Lisa of the dangers of walking alone late in the woods.
But Lisa had lied to her husband and sister about who attacked her and why. Her attacker was a man, and not a teenaged girl, who tried to murder her.
Ted reports the attack to the police who show up at the house for a statement…so the lies continue. Ted was more interested in the value and recovery of the lost wedding ring than his wife’s condition.
Later Lisa begins to live in fear, seeing threats everywhere she looks. What if he comes back for her.
Soon, Lisa discovers she is not the only victim and becomes determined on finding her perpetrator.
This gripping psychological suspense novel will have you flipping the pages until the final twist at the end that you don’t see coming. A great read!
Many thanks to the author and Bloodhound Books for my digital copy.
I enjoyed the first few pages then it got repetitive and I started skipping the remaining chapters. The protagonist was an unlikeable character and got herself into the most impossible situations. The ending was equally awful. Don’t waste your time on this.
I really don't know how I felt about this book. I hated it but I couldn't stop reading it. She lost me in some places but really grabbed me in others!! It was so slow but zoomed! And then BAM it was over! I never leave a book unread! This one almost made me throw it out the window a few times but I persevered! Kudos to the author but I don't know if she will get me again!!
Lisa is married to Ted & they have one son, Dan, who has autism. The book starts with Lisa managing to get back to her car after being attacked in the woods. She was geocaching on the way to her sister's party, but was attacked from behind by a mystery assailant. When she reaches her sister's home, she tells her sister she was attacked & robbed by a teenager, & asks for her husband, but is surprised to hear that he had disappeared off to get more cigarettes but should be back soon. When he arrives back, he seems more worried about her wedding ring being missing than anything else, but the next morning he calls in the police & Lisa lies to them.
Over the following days, bits & pieces about what happened come back to Lisa, she remembers that her assailant was definitely a man, that he sexually assaulted her, & she is convinced that he meant to kill her & that he will come back to finish the job. Lisa decides to go on the offensive & track him down. This puts a strain on her marriage & her parenting of Dan but nothing is allowed to get in the way of Lisa's goal.
I really enjoyed Her Dark Past by the same author, so I was intrigued by this synopsis of this one. Like HDP it is well written with a brutally fast past, but it does become rather unbelievable as it goes on, & none of the characters (except perhaps Dan) is easy to like. At all. However, the main issue is - I just don't get it. It might just be me, but I read the ending & the bit from the author at the end which says this is science fiction & ..... How? What makes this sci-fi? As I said it may be me, other reviewers scored this highly but I was left a bit nonplussed & I've got several questions about plot points & that ending.
My thanks to publishers, Bloodhound Books, for the opportunity to read an ARC.
TW: sexual assault, infidelity, bad language, violence
This story had an interesting start and some good twists near the end with an exciting ending. I felt it was a little slow in the middle. I didn’t find the characters particularly likeable. The main character, Lisa and her husband didn’t seem to know each other that well considering they were married. I also found their behaviours at times quite odd. Ted, the husband, doesn’t seem very compassionate towards his wife and is more worried about her wedding ring being missing when she is attacked. He also tries to have sex with her that night after the attack. There were however, some relatable everyday events throughout the story. The thoughts and research about rape are thought-provoking and raise awareness of the subject, particularly with regards to marital rape, and the story also touched on autism and how people with autism can have very different traits. Overall, an enjoyable read with interesting subjects.
I received an ARC from BloodHound Books for an honest review, thank you, and all thoughts are my own.
I received an advance copy of this book from Bloodhound publishers and am leaving an honest review voluntarily.
I generally enjoyed this book though did find parts rather dark. The basic plot is of a woman who goes geocache hunting in the woods and is then attacked by a mystery man. Lisa (as the title suggests) becomes obsessed with finding out who the man is and what he has done with her.
The attack and rape and the effects of these are very thought provoking and believable, though the fact that lisa is willing to sacrifice everything to take the law into her own hands even the welfare of her autistic son, i found hard to relate too.
The husband Ted is very unsympathetically written, he appears very narcissistic and is mainly focused on the cost of a lost engagement ring rather than his wife's wellbeing.
The amateur sleuthing was interesting if somewhat unrealistic at times but overall it was an entertaining read.
This story comes out December the 2nd of 2022. The paperback is available November 18th of 2022. This is a story of Lisa Holton, with her husband Ted Holton, have a son Dan Holton, and her sister Maud and husband Donald. The story begins with Lisa been a geocache for ten years. Ted was worried about the wedding rings Lisa lost them in the robbed and assaulted in the attacked in the park. That same night is Lisa's sister Maud's birthday party. Lisa is having short memories lost she research called dissociative amnesia, how the brain could repress memory of trauma. Lisa Holton suffered such memory blackout, fist time ten years ago, at age of nineteen, when she nervously nearly died from a drug overdose. and did not seek professional help. but consulted the internet. This story is exciting, interesting, and compelling to read to find out who attacked Lisa, what with her and her husband Ted relationship is about. And so much more. I hope you enjoy this novel.
Initially I was drawn into the story and with the premise, it appeared to be an interesting one however by about 40% through I felt it was heading down a way that wasn't appealing to me. That being said I continued with the book as there have been many which I have read that then pick up towards the end - not so with this one. At the end the author states that the book is of the sci-fi genre and had I known that I wouldn't have read it. It is interesting enough but does veer off on some unbelievable tangents and will probably suit many readers. I have read other books from this author and enjoyed them, just not this one.
This is an author that I have enjoyed reading from the first book I picked up. Her writing style is such that her stories really pop and come to life on each page. I never hesitate to pick up her books. This book is no different. The characters pull you into the story from the start. They are connectable and truly made the story come to life. A suspenseful story that comes to life with the author's use of details. The twists and turns had me turning pages fast just to see what would happen next. The plot has great growth throughout the story. This is one of my favorites by her yet. I highly recommend this book.
Lisa a geocatcher is attacked and left, for dead, she is determined to find out who her attacker is, what length will she go too, to do this. You are captured from the beginning of the book which is full of twists and turns. The storyline is very different and at times, I thought wow what an earth, could she or even would she be able to do this. This kept me glued and wanting to know what an earth would happen next, with plenty of shocking revelations along the way. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, my thanks to Bloodhound books for the copy, this is my honest unbiased review.
I havnt come across this author before so when I got a chance to read an early copy I jumped at the chance. At times I really enjoyed this book, but at others I did find extremely far fetched, but overall I enjoyed all the way through even though I knew absolutely nothing about Geo Caching, and when the story went into detail about it, I just couldn't imagine it in my mind which spoilt it for me - that's on me though not the author or the book. Like I said before, overall a good book and would recommend.
Thank you to Bloodhound books for my ARC of this novel
A psychological thriller about a woman who is raped whilst geocaching in the woods.
A well researched book touching on numerous topics from rape, geocaching, autism and relationships. The book starts well. I found the middle a little slow. I am not sure I liked any of the characters except the son Dan but that didn’t stop me enjoying the book.
I have to say I would rate this as a 3.5 star rating but is not an option. What started out as an intriguing storyline that held my interest turned a little slow and random in places. Lisa our leading lady started to grate on my nerves a little and although I initially felt sorry for her it turned to statements of “really” as I continued to read. I’ve read a few of this authors other books and thoroughly enjoyed them but I have to say this was probably my least favourite
Lisa is attacked while geocaching. She is unable to tell the truth about what happened, so seeks answers alone. The impact on her marriage is huge. I found this quite a quick read, as I sought answers too. Some of it was a little unbelievable, such as the amateur sleuthing and taking the law into her own hands. Nevertheless, it was an entertaining read. Thank you to Bloodhound Books for the ARC.
I enjoyed this book, it starts off with Lisa being attacked and not knowing what happened but realising her wedding rings are missing. Obviously haunted by this she can’t quite grasp what’s going on. The story unravels and has a edgy ending. The middle was a bit draggy but it had to go into details to get to where it needed to drop on to us.
I loved the concept of this book and the start was promising. However, as the story progressed, Lisa's actions become slightly unbelievable and I found myself questioning my interest more and more. The ending was sudden and felt like it had been wrapped up like the final series of Game of Thrones: rushed and disappointing.
My review is based on an advance copy that I received from the publisher Bloodhound Books.
The story begins with Lisa walking out of the woods with no memory of an attack at a geocaching site. The books takes you through many twists and turns with an ending that you won't see coming.
Obsessed by Jane Heafield. Lisa walks in the woods on a regular basis. But this time when she emerges, she is badly injured. Her wedding ring is missing. And her memory of the event is blank. Brilliant read. Twisty and tense. Loved it. 5*.
An entertaining read that sweeps you along on the ups and downs of Lisa's attempt to find closure after an attack. It is a well written and entertaining book that kept me engrossed. I still can't see the point of geocaching though but it was fun reading about it.
I read the synopsis of this and decided I would like to read the ARC. I struggled a little bit with this book as the characters were not very likeable and made me quite frustrated at times! I also found the book to be quite slow paced but felt I had to finish the book. The ending was unexpected!
Started out wonderfully, then progressively went downhill. The story was a bit long winded and the ending made zero sense to me, maybe I missed something but I was happy when it said "the end".
