Amber de Burgh is a novice of the Sisters of St. Ermengild, in training to take her final vows of becoming a nun. But when the doors to the church slam open one night and a wounded man named Lucifer who everyone thinks is the devil enters, her life changes forever.
Lucifer, or Lucas as he prefers to be called, has a very tarnished past and a future that fares no better. And when he lays his eyes on the abbey's new novice, he knows he can never let her become a nun.
Having been abandoned as a baby on the steps of the church, Lucas will do anything to live a different lifestyle. And before he knows it, he finds himself right in the middle of church corruption. He is sent to Canterbury on a pilgrimage with Amber, but while she intends to pray, that is the furthest thing from his mind.
His mission is to steal the Regale ruby of Canterbury Cathedral at Becket's shrine. Can a pure dove change the morals of a devil or will he change her morals first? Find out in Amber - Book 3 of the Daughters of the Dagger Series.

This is the third book of the series and as good as the other two. The characters are interesting, the plot is straightforward, and the premise is finding Amber's true love and stopping a thief. I do recommend this book.
Amber (Daughters of the Dagger Series Book 3) by Elizabeth Rose is an interesting and entertaining story. While, Book 3 in the "Daughters of the Dagger" series, can be read as a stand alone, I'd suggest reading the other two, as well. Very interesting series!
Well written with engaging and interesting characters. The storyline is filled with secrets, lies, betrayal, greed, corruption and of course, finding romance and love. Along with some adventure. Meet, Amber de Burgh, a novice in training at the Sisters of St. Ermengild. And, Lucifer, aka Lucas, on a mission to steal the Regale ruby of Canterbury Cathedral at Becket's shrine. He stumbles into the Sisters of St Ermengild, wounded and changes Amber's life forever, or will she change Lucas'?
A powerful story with many facets! Readers are drawn into Amber and Lucas' story from the beginning. Amber and Lucas learns a hard lesson on life, people, consequences and how people in power and position are not always honest but vile and do dispicable acts. Secrets and lies swirl around Amber and Lucas like a tornado. But, will they learn the truth before it's too late? Will they find their HEA or lose all? Historical Romance fans will enjoy this romance with a few twists and turns and many facets of a wonderfully written story. Strongly recommended. A complicated and compelling story. Rose is a talented author and one of my favorite in a variety of genre. She draws readers into her stories from the first chapter to the last. Another hit, Ms. Rose!
This is the love story of Amber, formerly Lady Amber, the daughter of an Earl and now a novice nun and Lucifer/Lucas who was abandoned by his noble mother when he was a baby and brought up in the monastic life. Lucas is a tortured soul; he was temperamentally unsuited to be a monk and ran away before taking his final vows. Out in the world, he became a mercenary and indulged in all the vices but that wasn't the life he wanted for himself either and so he returned to the man whom had raised him. A new life was dangled before him however, the tasks he had to undertake in order to reach that life made him feel tainted and now he was being tempted by the chaste and pure Sister Amber!!!!! Throughout history not all religious men have been pious. During the 18th Century, it was just a role that the fourth son undertook, whether he had a calling or not (first inherited the estate, second went into the army and third into law) and many of the 16th Century Popes had mistresses and illegitimate children. This book is set in the middle of 14th Century England, during a time when the Church was very wealthy and influential and those who reached the top echelons certainly did not live a life of poverty (though not all were promiscuous). I can imagine that this could have led to some ill-feeling within the Church itself. The villain of this novel, Father Armand, has become twisted, deceitful, greedy and grasping and this was the man who raised Lucifer! Will he make the right choices? Read this book to find out.
For centuries, cathedrals, churches, monasteries, abbeys, and convents have always been places of refuge; for friend and foe alike. On a fateful day in 1357 at the English Abbey of Bowerwood, Lucifer was almost turned away and soundly thrashed by his surrogate father, and the man to christen him with such a foul name, Father Armand. Without the intervention of the novice Amber, he may have perished then and there. Many people have been tempted and swayed by the devil, but none greater than the eighteen-year-old Lady Amber de Burgh. Amber is one of the four daughters of the Earl of Blackpool. Her sisters, Ruby, Sapphire, and Amethyst are all married and only she, a novice at Bowerwood Abbey, remains unmarried. In just a few months she would also be wed; to the church. The reader is cast back into the Middle Ages from the very first pages. This is a twisted tale of greed, deceit, pretense, lust, and love. Lucifer and Amber are sent on a pilgrimage to the great Cathedral of Canterbury. Amber is an extremely naïve and innocent woman that is entering the world outside the safe confines of the abbey.
This is the third book in the Daughters of the Dagger Series, but the first one I’ve read. The story is interesting, confusing, and occasionally humorous. It is about a man escaping his past and seeking his fortune and a woman remembering her past and deciding her future. It is a story of abandonment, lust, and love.
Book 3 in the Daughters of the Daggers series by Elizabeth Rose, is called Amber. This book takes us back to England in the 1300s. Amber de Burgh of Blackpool is a novice of the Sisters of St. Ermengild. She is there because she desires to atone for the sins of her family. One day Amber meets Lucas when he returns from a pilgrimage to atone for his sins. She shows she is very caring when she tends to his wounds. Lucas has been raised by Father Armand and has no wealth, no lands, and no one to love him. Father Armand promised him a castle after his pilgrimage, but now he tells Lucas he must first go to Canterbury Cathedral and retrieve a relic. The priest agrees to allow Amber to accompany Lucas on the pilgrimage. After spending time away from the abbey, Amber is confused about actually becoming a nun. I liked the fact that his book shares what things were really like back in the 1300s. Priests were not always as pious as they should be. This book is full of secrets and lies, betrayals, greed and corruption, and dishonesty. But it is also the story of trying to find love. This book was an entertaining read from start to finish. I liked the descriptions of the main characters and wanted things to work out for them. Now I look forward to reading the other books in this series.
Amber, book three of The Daughters of the Dagger series by Elizabeth Rose is an enlightening tale of how love can change a person. Amber du Bergh is a novice at St. Ermengild determined to join the church. Lucifer, or Lucas as he prefers, was raised in the church and knows all it’s secrets. From the moment he sees Amber, he’s determined not to let her take her vows. When they are sent on a pilgrimage together to Canterbury, this could be the opportunity for him to change her mind, or will she discover his plans to steal the Regale Ruby!
Two souls could not be more different than Amber and Lucas, but together, they bring out the very best in one another. This book and this series have been fabulous, and I can’t wait for the last installment. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Brian J Gill, who is quite good.
I listened to the audiobook of this story. Love the Narrator. We are up to the third sister in the Daughters of the Dagger series, Amber. She is a novice and hasn't taken her final vows to become a nun yet. One night, an injured man, Lucifer, enters the church and her life will never be the same again. Lucifer or Lucas, as he wishes to be called, has been raised in the church, after being left on the steps of the church. He no longer wants to do the job the priest sends him on, but must do this final one. After seeing Amber, he can't believe she wants to be a nun. It would be a sin if she did. He has to change her mind.
another good read in this series and well written ,just wish there were epilogue. Lucas had a hard road not knowing either if his parents until almost the end of the book. he ft he was unworthy of love or anyone getting to close until vehement Sister Amber. she changes his life in many ways as a novice and later becomes his wife . he also learns of his mother and becomes close to her .Would highly recommend this series.
Sometimes what we think we want is nothing like what we really want and this is what happens to Amber. She is certain she should be a Nun, but then she meets the Devil. Lucifer was supposed to become a Member of the Clergy. In typical Elizabeth Rose style nothing happens according to a plan. An easy, enjoyable read and if you like audio, it is well narrated by Brian J Gill.
Amber and Lucifer are two-dimensional characters with cardboard cutouts surrounding them. The story was not enough to distract from the poor sentence structure and the misused words.
Oh My Gosh this one grabbed me and wouldn't let me go. It had me from the first page to the last. Why would anyone name their child Lucifer? Father Armand knows but he isn't telling. Amber knew there was something different about the man called Lucifer what she didn't know is that he would change er life forever. I loved all the history and the supporting characters. This was such a good book and I loved it.
I loved this book! At one point I actually began dreaming at night that I was Amber and a novice nun! The detail in the book is wonderful. The characters are complex and a very interesting storyline! Wonderful book!
I enjoyed this third book in the series. The story was true to form during medevil times, where women think want to becomes but reality sets in and decide it's not really their calling. Now I will read the last book in the series.
Amber was not heading for the marriage bed, but for a life of atonement, for the sins of her mother and sisters. That is until Lucifer darkened the monastery's door, on a stormy night. Unfortunately, Amber was no match for a man who was besotted at first sight, regardless of his tarnished past.
Amber, book 3 in the Daughter's of the Dagger series. I love Elizabeth Rose's books. This story was about a confused woman and a lost knight. A story about deceit, greed, confusion and true love. Together the come strong in fighting for what they both want. The ending line is always my favorite.
Amber has decided to become a nun to atone for her mother's and her sister's sins. That is until she meets Lucifer. He brings out her wanton side and Father Armand doesn't want her to become a nun.
She travels with Lucifer to Canterbury where many questions will be answered
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this series I love that each book is based on a different theme from Medieval times and I look forward to the next in the series. Action, romance, good and bad everything a good book needs.
My favorite of the series so far. Maribell was by far the best character in it,so spunky. I loved Amber and Lucifer in this story as well, I loved the connection they shared. Great story.five stars
Amber, named for a jeweled dagger and 3rd sister in the series. She decides to become a nun because of what her mother did. She meets Lucifer who was trained to be a monk. The twist and turns in the book kept me captivated.
Talk about complex characters and then there's the plot twisting. This book keeps you reading non-stop. This series only gets more interesting with each book.
While all the novels of The Daughters of the Dagger series are compelling, Amber is the best of the four major works. What makes this installment of series so powerful is its plot and the development of Lucifer's character. Secrets, lies and betrayals swarm around all major characters in Amber, impacting the lives of all, even those who are not the perpetrators of such vile and dishonest acts. Without giving away any spoilers, even the innocent (especially the innocent) must learn that even those in positions of trust are not immune to greed and corruption and are capable of vile acts against their fellow man in private despite the public persona they actively cultivate. Lucifer has been raised from early childhood to live up to his evil name. But as a man, he begins to feel conflicted about the things he has done and starts to want to live up to a different standard and be worthy of Amber's opinion of him. Sadly, he is frequently pre-judged based solely on his name, and the only man he has ever known as a father figure encourages him to continue to act against his conscience and do his mentor's dirty work. By the time Lucifer learns the truth of his parentage and the origin of his name, Rose has painted such a vivid portrait of the man that the reader too feels the impact of this knowledge along with Lucifer. Amber can be read as a standalone novel, but it is enhanced if the reader is at least familiar with The Daughters of the Dagger Prequel--a short story that explains the significance and legend of the daggers. Lovers of historical fiction, especially those who enjoy stories with a fanciful bent, are sure to enjoy this series by Elizabeth Rose. Amber is the best novel of the series with the richest characters and most devastating secrets.

This is an honest review of this novel which I received for free from the author. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
Amber, the emotional third installment of Elizabeth Rose’s Daughters of the Dagger Series, is the story of two people in search of purpose and identity. Amber and Lucifer (who prefers to be called Lucas) are young, confused, and eager to belong, to someone or something. Their lives intersect at Bowerwood Abbey where Lucas was raised, and Amber is a novice nun. Circumstances throw them together on a pilgrimage to acquire a valuable relic for the monastery (sort of). They travel to Canterbury with Sir Romney and Mirabelle (a prostitute accompanying the knight), who, believe it or not, help them with some lessons in life. By the end of their journey, Lucas finds answers he’s searched for his whole life, Amber discovers what she really wants in life, and the villain meets an appropriately themed end.
As expected Elizabeth Rose gives us a well-written story with strong complex characters and a solid plot.
Lucifer returns to the monastery where he was abandoned as a baby. Father Armand had sent him on a pilgrimage to punish him. Since he has been out in the world Lucifer has discovered that the priest is not the godly man he pretends to be. Amber de Burgh of Blackpool is one of four sisters. She decided to become a nun to pay penance for the grave sins committed by her sisters and mother. Our hero has suffered and is still struggling to find out who he can be. Our heroine is sweet , loving and honest with herself and others. This is the third of the Daughters of the Dagger series, but easily read as a stand alone. A very different style of historical romance, giving us an insight into the power of the church in that era. All the characters are strong and well written. Their personalities really shine through. The story line is fun and sexy. I have read others in the series and loved all of them as much as this one.
Just finished up this story. I love the history lesson as well as the adventure. Amber and Lucas are such opposites but felt the pull and worked for success. This is the third book, and I had not read the first two, but it did not matter. There is mention of characters in the other books, but it does not take away from this one story. I look forward to catching up on the other books.
