Azure Tides

Rate this book
Far from familiar shores, Seamus Pearson finds himself scrubbing endlessly upon the deck of the illustrious Pearl of Red Duchess. While this is not the first time Seamus has been out to sea, this is the first time he has no clue as to where they are headed.
Trouble arises as his not-so-secretive romance with the beautiful Una'Pahu ends and he cannot leave well enough alone. Sneaking about, he overhears a plot to journey to a forsaken island spoken of only in fairytales to retrieve something called, the Heart. Pirates, Vampires, demons, and more wind their way through Seamus's path as he strives to find a way off of the Pearl of Red Duchess, without falling victim to the never-ending fury of the Azure Tides.

Looking for a piratey coming-of-age adventure with mysteries, action and derriing-do? Then look no further than Azure Tides!
Seamus is down-on-his-luck teenage deck hand, in and out of love with one of his superiors on board. Stumbling upon an unravelling mystery, he and his friend Henry are swept up in adventure that pulls back the veil on what's real and what's legend in a fast-paced tale that's smooth and entertaining.
Though it isn't as epic as Raymond E. Feist's Magician, it still gave me a familiar and welcome feeling, particularly in Seamus's journey. There are twists and surprises contained within Azure Tide's 220 pages and, as Feist's Magician was once described, Trotter's book is very much a "ripping yarn" that doesn't let up once the adventure begins.
The audiobook is high quality too and well worth checking out.

A fantasy that pulls you in like a tide!

I really loved my experience reading Azure Tides. David Trotter has an incredible ability to create a world that feels deep, ancient, and alive, and I found myself getting completely pulled into it from the beginning.

What stood out to me the most was how layered the characters are. Each perspective added something new to the story, and I enjoyed seeing how their choices and motivations slowly connected to a much larger picture. It made the story feel both personal and epic at the same time. Henri is my favorite :)

I also appreciated the pacing. Instead of rushing through events, the story unfolds gradually, like a tide slowly coming in. That approach gave me time to really settle into the world and understand the stakes. When the bigger moments happen, they feel earned and impactful even in a shorter book.

Another thing I loved was how the book hints at deeper history and lore without overwhelming me. I constantly felt like there was more beneath the surface waiting to be discovered, which kept me curious and excited to keep reading.

Overall, I found Azure Tides to be a rich and immersive fantasy with compelling characters and a world that feels much bigger than what’s on the page. It left me eager to see where the story goes next

More Feromage Awesomeness

I really enjoyed this addition to the Feromage world. Between Pirates and Vampires it’s super hard to go wrong, and Mr Trotter does a great job!! The audio version was very very well done as well!

This was such an epic story! Pirates and vampires and dragons, oh my! I really enjoyed this one despite it being incredibly dark at times (and by that, I mean a lot of the time). If you love dark, epic fantasy, this one is an absolute must-read!

A great parallel to the first book. Excited to see where they intersect with our friends from Birthrights.
