What can I say, in between other larger novels, this next installment in the manga world has been a relaxing treat, following in the foot steps of Theo, the pointy-eared, Kafna bound boy. Many years has passed since Kafna arrived at this town to save the day, and it is because of their influence, a new spark of interest, already shadowed by his insane love for books, has caused him to take a journey of a life time. A pilgrimage to the central library where all students willing to take the test go. It is no easy task getting there, as he encounters book thieves and other potential students along the way. Theo also meets a wonderful new friend, a special rare creature that he saves from being sold off like some unwanted piece of property.
I can honestly say this is one of those few feel-good stories, where struggle and strife bound from many corners of the world, only to be conquered by life experiences and lessons taught by others. This is a coming of age story well worth reading. Towards the end of the book, Theo undergoes the grueling examination that lasts for three days straight, no sleep, and by relying solely on his determination, will he even have a chance at becoming Kafna. The story ends with the proctor indicating “Ok pens down, the test is over.” Did he have what it takes to make it? Won’t find out till book 3.

Малюнок приголомшливий. Великі панорами різних місцин та міст, доповнені невеличкими примітками про них, створюють враження масштабного фентезійного світу, на який ми поки подивилися мигцем.
Доброчесний герой, який попри всі труднощі йде до мрії, знаходить друзів, а також величезна любов до книжок та історій!

Якщо перший том - чисто завʼязка, головному герою там лише шість років, то тут уже 14, мандрівка, екзамен, нові герої, більше зрозуміло про світ і загалом цікавіше стає саме сюжетно. Після прочитання хочеться одразу братись за наступну 😊

This was so great! All the feels!
A unique fantasy traveling story packed with life lessons and friendship. The artwork is beautiful and detailed. I really can't recommend this sweet story enough! So happy I picked this up!

I'm still in love with this story, world, and art, but I'll be more interested to see the new characters actually really engage with each other rather than just meet-and-greet. At its best though, this brought tears to my eyes. Highlight was the last chapter of the volume!

Parfait. Parmi les thématiques abordées (outre celle du livre bien sûr) : la force de caractère et le courage; le racisme et la xénophobie. J'ajouterai aussi que j'aime beaucoup la façon dont le lore est introduit petit à petit à travers les différents tomes. Jamais trop d'information d'un coup, le tout bien évidemment arrosé de planches superbement dessinées.

J'ai jamais vu d'aussi beaux dessins dans un manga. L'histoire est fascinante et le monde et ses personnages tellement bien construits. Hâte de lire la suite !!

Die Reihe geht weiter - und mit ihr eine der optisch und inhaltlich detailliertesten Heldenreisen aller Zeiten. Band 2 schildert lediglich Shios Reise in die Stadt der Bücher und endet mit dem Beginn der großen Prüfung. Die Geschichte lässt sich Zeit und beleuchtet eingehend sämtliche Aspekte dieser fiktiven Welt. Die Figuren indes brillieren mit großem Wiedererkennungswert und die einzelnen Episoden vereinen philosophische Fragen auf wundervolle Weise mit den liebenswürdigen Hauptcharakteren.
Dennoch muss ich Kritik äußern: Der Manga lässt sich Zeit - seine größte Stärke avanciert dadurch zu einer potenziellen Schwäche. Bereits jetzt (nach zwei Bänden!) nimmt der Cast quantitativ beängstigende Ausmaße an. Die Frage, ob sich die Geschichte an der Fülle an Charakteren übernimmt, bleibt noch offen.
Dennoch muss ich Kritik äußern: Der Manga lässt sich Zeit - seine größte Stärke avanciert dadurch zu einer potenziellen Schwäche. Cudowna manga! Ta seria ma wielki potencjał, żeby być dla mnie numerem 1!
Bardzo ładny styl rysunków, zwłaszcza kiedy mamy takie rysunki na całą stronę, wtedy to są aż zapierające dech w piersi piękne.
Ciekawy system magiczny i kreacja świata, na pewno chcę się więcej o nim dowiedzieć.
Nasz główny bohater jest wspaniały. Również inni, których poznajemy po drodze.
Fabuła jest ciekawa, mamy sporo humoru, ale też poruszane są tutaj ważne i poważniejsze tematy. Wszystko jest fajnie wyważone.
Bardzo polecam. Zwłaszcza dla wielbicieli książek się nada.

The world building in this volume is amazing.
Theo has come to the age where he can take the kafna exam and goes on a journey to the central library city. Along the way, his stops exposes him to town and cities larger than his own and he meets new friends in the process. The reader get to travel along with Theo in a nigh immersive experience as the author describes each noteworthy stop with a wonderful illustration and backstory behind it.
This story is really good and the translation is even competent. If a blemish can be nitpicked, it would be the haphazard proofreading. It has one too many typos for my taste. But, that isn't enough to bring down the score. 5 stars.

Coup de cœur pour ce second tome également ❤️. Ici on est vraiment dans l'aventure du héros. On découvre de beaux paysages et de nouveaux personnages. Les dessins sont à tomber par terre 😍. Et encore une fois, c'est touchant et pleins de beaux messages autour des livres mais pas que

En esta segunda parte de Magus of the Library acompañamos a Theo desde su pueblo hasta la biblioteca central para presentarse a los exámenes de acceso. 200 aspirantes se presentan cada año y de ellos, solo 20 logran superar la prueba, de los cuales sólo 2 son chicos. Por ello, Theo tendrá que trabajar duro para superar la primera prueba del examen, una prueba escrita que dura tres días y tres noches, en las que los aspirantes tendrán que permanecer en una de las habitaciones de las Kafnas saliendo sólo para ir al baño. ¿Logrará el pequeño Theo superar esta primera prueba y estar más cerca de su sueño?
Como el primero, este es un segundo tomo lleno de momentos entrañables rodeados de libros. Además aparece un nuevo personaje, Alf, un joven pícaro que ayudará a Theo y Mihona, una muchacha que al igual que estos dos se presenta también a las pruebas. Además, Theo adoptará (con mucha dificultad) a Mally, una libre blanca que aparentemente es mágica y que se convertirá en su nuevo amigo inseparable.

A partir de este momento voy a realizar un resumen del tomo con SPOILERS, por si decido hacer una relectura, así que te recomiendo que no sigas leyendo si no has leído este tomo previamente.
La novela empieza con el inicio del viaje de Theo y como conoce a Chak, una joven a la que este salva a Chak de morir ahogada con sus poderes. Más tarde Theo y su maestro acampan en un pueblo dedicado a los libros, camino a la biblioteca central. Allí conocerá a Mihona, otra chica que también viaja hasta Aftzaak para presentarse al examen y juntos ayudan a evitar varios robos de forajidos ladrones de libros y desde ese momento comparten su viaje hasta la Biblioteca central. En Espleo, otro pueblo en el camino, conocen al pícaro Alf, un chico muy bajito pero tremendamente avispado que les ayudará en varias ocasiones y que negociará con uno de los mafiosos del pueblo para que Theo pueda quedarse con Willa, una liebre blanca de dos colas con poderes mágicos que el comerciante maltrataba.
Finalmente, los tres llegan a Aftzaak para presentarse al examen. La primera parte del examen dura tres días y es un examen escrito, en el que tendrán que poner en práctica conocimientos de filosofía, ciencias naturales, historia y geografía para catalogar una serie de libros. El examen es muy duro y aunque se han presentado 200 aspirantes y sólo pueden quedar 20, mucho de los opositores abandonan la prueba antes de que terminen los tres días.
No obstante, parece que nuestros tres amigos logran superar la primera prueba.
¡Qué ganas de saber si logran superar las siguientes!

Are you kidding me with the *chef's kiss* quality of art this series upholds? Every page feels like cover art or poster material.
The detailed art, coupled with the worldbuilding as our precious protagonist, Theo journeys towards the Central Library to take the kafna (librarian) exam are just exquisite. I am increasingly invested in the history of this world, and kind, compassionate Theo is to be protected at all costs.
For a relatively simple plot premise, I think the author did a good job exploring themes such as prejudice and ignorance, friendship and family, as well as self-identity and confidence.

And so my beautiful experience with this series continues. The second volume is as great as the first one, and I absolutly love how it explores themes that are directly connected with real life book selling, prejudice, relationships, wars, family and friendship. The characters are all greatly developed even in just two pages sometimes, and the stories are... beautiful.

Je suis partie en plein voyage, Shio a vécu des petites aventures avant n’arriver à Afshak. C’était super sympa à découvrir. J’ai hâte de voir si Shio va réussir le concours !

I quite enjoyed Theo's journey to get to Aftzaak and all the people and creatures he met on the way. Its a story about learning and books as well as one of personal growth, friendship, and sticking up for those that can't stick up for themselves. The various locations themselves were beautiful and I wish I could visit all those libraries!

5 stars for an adventure undertaken! I love this series and I can't wait to continue the journey with volume 3! Also, Uira reminds me of a fox-squirrel and Pura Pura reminds me of the mini Totoros!
