Our fourth annual RH Christmas anthology collection of naughty and nice stories! Because everyone knows 'tis the season to read books, and we're here to get sleighed.
Authors include: L.L. Frost - Christmas Storm Jarica James - A Very Merry Wishmas Erin O'Kane - Santa's Little Helpers Dakota Browna - Demons Don't Do Christmas Juniper Kerry - Stowaway Mia Harlan - Amber: Christmas Peek M.J. Marstens - Belated Christmas Gift
Dakota has two passions in life: writing and cinnamon tea. Tea so strong she ought to be able to see her future when she drinks it, and the writing? Well she hopes it makes you see stars when you read it. She creates reverse harem romance novels filled with things that go bump in the night. That handsome werewolf walking down the street? The suave vampire you’re just dying to get a taste of? You’ll find them enraptured by charming, smart ladies ready to make those bad boys work for their affection. When not writing, Dakota can be found on the back of a horse out on the trail or tending the animals on her farm.
Well, this was a mixed bag. The first story "Christmas Storm" was a "slice of life" story for an existing series. I've read some where even if you haven't read the series, it's a cute little sub-story. This was not the case here. I tried but you really had to have read the series to understand what was going on so I did not finish that and skipped to the next.
The second story "A Very Merry Wishmas" was a standalone. It was cute with a low level of steam ( apparently lots of $ex took place in a fade-to-black situation). My issue with this one was the ending. It ended in a way that was not clearly explained and was very much against the characterization of some of the MCs. Just weird.
The third story "Demons Don't Do Christmas" was another story about an existing series. But this one was very well written. Not only did I understand and enjoy this little story about demons being willing to go to a Christmas party for one of the mates' human family, it made me want to read the series from the beginning. Well done.
The fourth story "Stowaway" is actually the reason I chose this book. It's a cute little standalone omegaverse story. You actually meet Maude in her best friend Willow's story in another anthology. It was a nice steamy short about a terminally shy omega and the alphas she meets by hiding in their crab fishing boat. Perfect.
Five and Six "Christmas Peek" and "Belated Gift" were nice spicy little scenes from authors we know well. The Christmas Peek is an Amber story from Silver Springs. It's steamy and laugh out loud ridiculous as this author does so well. The Belated Gift is a smexy little encounter with a feisty FMC and 4 guys that never even get names. All around fun for both and a satisfying ending to the book.
I originally picked up the anthology due to the reverse harem theme and an author that I liked (L.L. Frost). I also recognized a few authors that I haven't really enjoyed so far, so I expected to DNF or skip a few stories before I started. I did appreciate that this anthology was pretty short and didn't include too many stories. Overall, the stories were cute and entertaining, but there was nothing too memorable or anything I would re-read. --- Christmas Storm by L.L. Frost 32 pages Rating: ★★★☆☆ Tags: demons, reverse-harem, animal-sidekicks, m-m-romance, magic, sentient-location
This short story was set after the last book in the author's (un)Lucky Succubus series and followed the group's first Christmas with their baby Storm. It was a quick cute read with some new MM between . --- A Very Merry Wishmas by Jarica James 38 pages Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ / DNF Tags: bookstores, reverse-harem, f-f-romance, magic
This story followed the FMC Daphne as she was trapped in an inherited bookstore in a snowstorm and ended up magically bringing to life two book boyfriends. An FF relationship was suggested in the beginning blurb between Daphne and her best friend deputy Max, but I quit at Chapter 2 of 6 before I saw it in action.
I already knew I didn't tend to enjoy this author's work, so I skimmed the first few chapters to get an idea of the world-building and introductions, and it was quite dramatic without much buildup, with all the characters kind of annoying to me. --- Santa's Little Helpers by Erin O'Kane 43 pages Rating: ★★★☆☆ Tags: bakeries, contemporary-romance, reverse-harem
This story followed the 28-year-old bakery owner FMC Holly after she was dragged to a Christmas party in a club by her employees and ended up meeting a trio of hot men. I might have been a bit nit-picky, but it was distracting that the author wrote blonde and brunette, adjectives usually for women, to describe the men instead of blond and brunet.
Pure contemporary romance isn't usually my thing, but I gave this a quick shot, and it was hot and enjoyable. --- Demons Don't Do Christmas by Dakota Brown 51 pages Rating: ★★★☆☆ Tags: angels, demons, reverse-harem, hellhounds, vampires, magic, fae, shifters, four-horsemen, horses
This was a short story set after the end of the author's Pizza Shop Exorcist series and followed the FMC Chris with her harem as they went to Aaron's parents' Christmas party and encountered a mischievous trickster. It was an entertaining and action-packed read. --- Stowaway by Juniper Kerry 67 pages Rating: ★★★☆☆ Tags: alpha-omega, reverse-harem, m-m-romance
This story was a Bering Sea novella that followed the omega FMC Maude as a stowaway on a snow crab fishing boat of alphas, trying to get to a friend's wedding, and ended up discovered. It was very insta-lust and insta-love with sudden MM in the heat of moment. The character development was very shallow and pretty unsatisfying, but it was a hot read. --- Amber: Christmas Peek by Mia Harlan 21 pages Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ / DNF Tags: magic, shifters, vampires
This was a Silver Springs short story that followed the FMC Amber as she tried to open some Christmas presents early while her mates were out. I quit 3 pages in, as I kind of expected, since I hadn't enjoyed any other stories or books in this universe in other anthologies I've read. There were really weird characters like Amber being able to shift into her mates and Christmas tree shifters... not my cup of tea. --- Belated Christmas Gift by M.J. Marstens 18 pages * skipped *
According to the blurb, this was a contemporary short story following the FMC Holly as she planned to spend her holidays in her empty sorority house. I am not a fan of pure contemporary, and I haven't really enjoyed this author's writing, so I just skipped this story without attempting it.
Inside the 4th annual RH Christmas anthology, you will find short stories by seven of your favorite RH authors. Short stories full of hot chocolate, cookies, and kisses. This review is specifically for LL Frost's Christmas Storm. You need to be familiar with The (Un)Lucky Succubus series to enjoy this fully. For those of us who are huge fans of baby Adie, this is a wonderful treat.
Adie, Her Demons of Destruction, and Julian are preparing to celebrate baby Storm's first Christmas. The House has relocated them to an alien icy plane as Adie tries to create the perfect Christmas. But in true Adie fashion, one thing after another goes wrong until she's ready to cancel Christmas altogether. But baby giggles caused by an unexpected visitor, a Frankenstein gingerbread house, a scary Santa with a bag full of the perfect gifts and yummy Indian food, and some sexy snuggles turn a disaster into the perfect Holiday, complete with a white Christmas thanks to the House.
What I love about these Anthology is you never know what you'll get. With loads of great Autors like Mia harden with her wacky and totally funny story with favourite characters from silver springs, jewels cafe. And a unexpected talking present which was totally unexpected. All the story's were funny and a bit naughty which I just loved.
I live for anthologies. They are, quite honestly, my favorite type of book. Especially if they are actually excerpts into another work. I have fallen in love with so many authors and their series due to anthologies.
I will be reading the Pizza Shop Exorcist series. Wasn't actually the biggest fan of the last book. No meat, no potatoes, all filler.
Fun and steamy Christmas anthology. I honestly don't know which story I liked more. Definitely pick it up if you're looking for something quick and entertaining.
I purchased this to read Dakota Brown's novella. Loved it. I missed the pizza gang and this was a fun short about them. I haven't read the other stories yet. Maybe I'll update after I do.
A couple of the stories were obviously novellas from series and the sheer number of characters made the story hard to follow if you were not already familiar with them.
