The Mistress Next Door

I know what you did. You destroyed my life. Now I’m going to take everything from you, starting with your husband. I’m your worst nightmare, and I’m closer than you think.

Oliver, my husband and the father of our three little girls, used to be my rock. But recently he’s been behaving strangely, staying out late, working weekends and emotionally absent even when home. Now as I clutch a receipt for a hotel room and champagne for two, hidden away in his coat pocket, I’m devastated. What else can I assume other than he’s cheating?

I’ve risked everything for the life I have now, a life that’s a million miles from… before. Not that Oliver would know anything about that. I would do anything to hold on to the perfect future I so dearly long for. A future that is now about to come crashing down.

Because Oliver’s cheating isn’t the only threat to my family. This morning I received an anonymous note. One that changes everything. The past isn’t just haunting me, it’s coming back to destroy me. It seems that someone in our close-knit community of Prospect Close knows my secret. Someone who’s willing to do whatever it takes to get their revenge. They’ve already stolen my husband. How much further will they go? And what can I do to stop them…?

An astonishing, compelling page-turner with a jaw-dropping twist, if you love Lisa Jewell, K. L. Slater and Jackie Kabler, you’ll love The Mistress Next Door.

Harriet and Oliver live in the lovely community of Prospect Close with twins Tess and Tilly and a 6-month-old Lucy. Oliver is a banker and commutes to London and sometimes to Paris. Tilly was briefly abducted while at a park, and Oliver is suspiciously working late hours. Is Harriet's perfect family life about to crumble?

The Mistress Next Door has a strong start but becomes a very slow burn. I was intrigued by the title and book description ultimately though I wasn't very thrilled.

The husband's character is very lacking. I want to have a stronger emotion toward this character whether I like him or not. The threatening notes (not a spoiler) Harriet receives are probably what pull me along as I'm curious about her past and want to know the reveal. Then it was a bit of a letdown. I won't mind giving Lesley Sanderson's book another try in the future.

Outstanding and very enjoyable narration by Eilidh Beaton.🎧🥰

EXCERPT: He calls me his mistress. I like it; it sounds quaint and old fashioned and brings to mind a powerful woman, à la Anne Boleyn. Milk-white skin, dark hair and dangerous eyes, swishing around in her heavy brocade dress made from cascades of the ornate fabric, only her delicate shoulders and collarbones visible above her neckline, playing hard to get before eventually securing her prize.
I've already secured mine, and once that was done, I set my attention on his wife. Who'd have thought that we'd become friends, popping in and out of one another's houses, stretching at yoga classes and sweating on the treadmill and sharing thick, green gloop afterwards, believing it is good for us. I even get to spend time with their children, which is extra sweet, and there's no danger of them becoming mine. Children aren't part of a mistress's lot. But once I'm no longer the mistress . . .

ABOUT 'THE MISTRESS NEXT DOOR': I know what you did.

MY THOUGHTS: Is it me? Or is it you? I'm not sure. Usually Lesley Sanderson's books draw me right in and I devour them in a day or two. But somehow The Mistress Next Door missed the mark for me.

The story is told over two timelines - now and 2006 - by the main character, Harriet, and the prologue from the point of view of the anonymous mistress. Maybe we should have heard a little bit more from her to keep the tension ramped up? And her revelation? - I'll deal with that later.

I do admit that I had great fun trying to decide who she was, and frequently changed my mind as to her identity.

I had no particularly strong feelings about Harriet, whom I should have felt empathy for. She came across as sulky and petulant at times. Her husband Oliver I didn't like at all. Martin and Edward were the most interesting characters, and we didn't see nearly enough of them. They had a great vantage point from their penthouse apartment and I'm sure they saw and knew far more than they let on.

The motive behind all this and the great revelation just didn't ring my bells and was disappointing, as was the revelation of Harriet's secret. It was obvious from the moment she started telling her backstory what it was going to be.

This particular novel lacked the suspense I have come to expect from this author. While have enjoyed Lesley Sanderson's books to varying degrees previously, this is definitely my least favourite. I kind of enjoyed this, mainly with a sense of anticipation that wasn't, in the end, realised.

I was lucky enough to receive both a digital and audio ARC of The Mistress Next Door, switching from one format to the other depending on what I was doing. I absolutely adored Eilidh Beaton's narration.

Featuring ~ dual 1st and 3rd person POV, dual timeline (present & 2006), infidelity, secrets of course

I was sucked right into this one when one of Harriet's twins goes missing while they are at the park. She can't get in touch with her husband when he's out of town for work to let him know ~ hmmm, I wonder why that is? Not a spoiler cuz it's in the blurb, but we've got another cheating toolish husband ~ they seem to be everywhere. Harriet is feeling overwhelmed being a mum to 3 girls, getting crazy notes and trying to prove Oliver's unfaithfulness..

We have some chapters from anonymous in 2006 and some anonymous notes in the present, which kept the suspense up a bit. It does drag some in the middle, though. Although the plot wasn't a particularity new one I was invested and wanted to know how it would all play out. It was a fast paced, quick listen/read with a couple of heart pounding moments.

Narrated by Eilidh Beaton for 8 hours and 21 minutes. She mostly did a fine job. I didn't care for her children's voices.

The Mistress Next Door is the first book by Lesley Sanderson that I've read. I found the novel listed on NetGalley as a top download, so I thought I'd give the thriller a try. It worked out quite well! Set on a cul de sac filled with several families and a couple of single women, the main plot revolves around a dangerous woman who's deemed herself The Mistress and is intent on breaking up a marriage for some unknown past sin that the wife harbors. The POV switches from the mistress (10% of the time) to Harriet the wife (90%) of the time. Harriet's daughter is briefly kidnapped then returned, and she begins receiving notes that indicate the kidnapper (if it's the same person) knows what she did in the past. Harriet then shares a few chapters about incident when she was a teenager involving a young child. The stories begin to collide, including Harriet's cheating husband... but what readers don't yet know is whether Harriet's husband is the only cheater on the block. Great dialog, plot unraveling, and scene setting. I enjoyed the overall story but did feel like there was a lot of focus on nannies and people friendly when they disliked one another. Hard to tell if I'm just the kind of person that doesn't force myself to be around people I dislike or this is a common thing in small suburban blocks! All in all, enjoyed the book and will definitely read another by the author.

I was not a fan of this book. I didn’t like the characters or the writing style. It lack depth. I was bored the majority of the time and disappointed because the prologue was so good!

Harriet’s husband is constantly working. Things haven’t been great between them and she thinks he may be having an affair. She pushes through taking care of her three kids. Harriet is a bundle of nerves when she can’t find one of her kids at the park. Eventually the child is found and that’s when the notes begin. Harriet has secrets too. Can she find out who’s behind the notes and keep her family safe?

To say, Harriet has a lot on her plate is an understatement. Threatening notes, a cheating, husband, and suspicious neighbors around every corner. Who is behind the chilling threats? The past has come back with a vengeance threatening to take away all she loves, including her husband. The narration adds an element of mystery and drama to this tale of deception and betrayal. The writing was very chaotic but the story was okay, I guess.
However, I couldn't enjoy it properly because, like I said, I wasn't a fan of the writing, especially the dialogues, and the characters felt flat and weren't properly characterised.

Lesley Sanderson's THE MISTRESS NEXT DOOR is a slow-burn family drama of dark secrets of the past—guilt, betrayal, obsession, and REVENGE.

Set in suburbia, Harriet and her husband, Oliver, reside in the prestigious enclave of Prospect Close. They have three daughters (twins Tess and Tilly and a 6-month-old Lucy). Oliver is a banker and works out of town during the week. Harriet owns a kids' clothing business.

She decides she needs a nanny to help with the children so she can work. But instead, she spends her days and evenings stressing over suspecting her husband is having an affair. This became very old and tiring. She is just unsure who the woman is. After all, he has been unfaithful before.

She is a highly protective mom due to her past trauma. She has not even told her husband about her past. One day at the park, someone takes Lucy. She is frantic, but shortly after that, she is returned unharmed. They do not find out who took her. Then she receives threatening notes.

Told from the POVs of Harriet and a few chapters from THE MISTRESS. The unknown mistress has a score to settle, and she plans on taking Harriet's husband, children, and everything from her. She has even moved to Prospect Park to be close to her target and has planned this for years.

Instead of working and running her business, Harriet spends almost the entire book worrying about her husband having an affair. Following him, sleuthing, and looking through his receipts.

Unfortunately, the book was (drawn out) filled with drama, gossip, and neighbors. The author keeps the reveal —The Mistress (motive) and Harriet's (past) connection until the end, which is rushed and a big letdown.

Not a fan of this one. I almost gave up. Very dull and tempted to fast forward to the end. I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator, Eilidh Beaton, did a great job which is why I am giving this 3 stars. I also alternated with the e-book.

My first book by this author, and unfortunately was not impressed. Too many useless characters and not enough suspense or action to keep you engaged. The prologue was good and then went downhill from there. The characters were underdeveloped, and no plot twists. Overall, very underwhelming for a domestic thriller. I am sure it will appeal to some readers.

Thanks to #Bookouture and #NetGalley for a gifted ARC and ALC. The audiobook had technical issues stopping throughout.

The prologue was intriguing, but open-ended. The first few chapters interested me but ultimately dragged on so long that I had to give up. I really tried not to.

Harriet is at the park in the elite neighborhood where she lives tending to a boo-boo, when one of her twins goes missing. Although she's found safe a few hours later, we don't know who took her and we know that Harriet has some secrets of her own.

I know keeping the secret under wraps builds suspense but in this case, it was all secrets and no reveals to keep you interested. It made it where you just didn't know anyone.

I felt no connection to them and had no idea why they acted how they did which is kind of central to a story like this.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read and review.

Harriet thought she had the perfect family. She had a loving husband and three beautiful daughters. But lately, her husband has been traveling and working more than usual. It seemed like he didn't want to be home. Was he cheating? With who? Things escalated when she started to receive taunting and threatening notes. Was it from the other woman? But why?

The premise was decent but had poor execution. The characters were dull and lacked development. I couldn't relate nor did I care for any of the characters. Not to mention, the protagonist led us on a wild goose chase. Harriet was jumping to conclusions left and right without concrete evidence. I found myself asking, what's the point of all of this? I agree with the other reviews, the big reveal was a letdown. I found it unconvincing.

Harriett and Oliver live in a friendly community called Prospect Close. One day while at the playground, one of Harriet's twin daughters goes missing. She is of course frantic, but happy when she is later found. What she didn't expect was that later, she gets a threatening note. Harriett's husband, Oliver, has cheated on her in the past and she is having feelings that it is happening again. While trying to figure out who his mistress is, she continues to get notes that are threatening her and her family. She has a secret from her past that she has never told anyone about. Could this be the person behind notes? Or could they be from Oliver's mistress?

THE MISTRESS NEXT DOOR was an engaging read from start to finish. There were many twists along the way that I did not expect. I would say, this is a quick read as I read in a day's time. I did feel bad for Harriett and I was glad the conclusion was in her favor. Pick up this book if you want a good mystery/thriller to add to your TBR.

This story is told mostly from Harriet's point of view. The pace is on the slow side, but it still manages to pull you in. I also felt that it took a bit of a dip in the middle. There are lots of secrets and I wanted to find out what they were. I could not stand Oliver from the moment we were introduced to him. It was the notes Harriet was receiving that kept me interested in the storyline. There were parts that were quite predictable. Overall, an enjoyable read.

Something happened in Harriet’s life when she was 16 years of age that she has kept secret for everyone, including her husband Oliver. With her marriage having already gone through difficult days, one day while at the park with her three children, including her twin girls, one of them goes missing. Not only is Oliver out of town, he is also out of touch and she can’t even tell him how desperate she is that their daughter is missing. Not only is she dealing with this terror, but she gets a note that alludes to her past and lets her know that nothing for her is ever going to go smooth again.

Someone knows about Harriet’s past. Revenge seems to be the name of the game and she will do anything to stop what is going on. More than that, she starts to have reason to not trust Oliver and is determined to discover who he could be possibly having yet another affair with. No one in their circle of friends escapes her thoughts as to whom could be sleeping with her husband. Torn between trying to sort out what’s going on with Oliver, as well as that note that alludes to her past, Harriet is overwhelmed.

Although this book was mostly in the present, there were flashbacks to Harriet’s teenage years to give a clue as to what secret she has been hiding from that past. The drama continued to intensify as Harriet’s past begins to collide with her present, which could possibly ruin her future. I listened to this tense domestic thriller as it was wonderfully narrated by Eilidh Beaton. Whether voicing what Harriet was experiencing, or the other characters in the book, the narration lent to making this intriguing story even better than it already was.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Harriet and oliver live in this well to do close with their twins and new baby. Oliver is always working kate and away. Harriet is worried hes cheating she has a secret from her past that threatens yo destroy het life.
The title drew me in . The story is told ftom harriet's point of view. The past is interweaven to develop the characyer and gets you hook as you want to know her past. She is well written. Her husband however despite being a main character lacked something for me he seemed a bit too detached from the story and i found it gard to believe in him.
Its a sliw burner whixh keeps hooked Cleverly written to draw you to the wrong conclusion before trying it all up at the end. Well worth a read.. It did briefly loose itself in the middle before a fabulous reveal endung. After such a slow burn it was a good reward part iof me wanted the ending to be longer and slightly more dramatic.
A fabulous dolud read. Highly recommended

I liked this book ok, but it wasn’t my favorite. It centers on Harriet who lives in a fancy neighborhood with her husband Oliver and their 3 young girls. When one of the girls goes briefly missing, she realizes someone is trying to send her a message related to a terrible incident from her childhood. On top of that, Oliver is becoming increasingly distant and she believes he is having an affair.

The premise of the book was pretty cool and I always like the “hope no one finds out my secret” angle. The things that didn’t sit as well with me were how long the villain waited for revenge and how hard Harriet tried to ignore the truth. The whole ending caused me to have to suspend my disbelief a bit. I also felt that there were too many characters who weren’t well developed enough for me to differentiate them. I was torn on Harriet as a character- there were some aspects of her personality I really liked, like the dynamic with her kids and her ability to directly confront things that happened to her, but I also found her to be naive and to jump to ridiculous conclusions as some points.

Overall, this was a twisty read with a couple good surprises but I’m not sure how memorable it will be for me looking back later. I’d give it 3.5 stars. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

ARC audiobook provided in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed the narration on this book! Eilidh Beaton does a fantastic job voicing all of their characters and her accent is delightful to listen to. The story centers around a woman with a hidden past that haunts her and a rocky marriage that she spends most of the book questioning. I enjoyed the twists at the end and the flashbacks to when Harriet was 16 and what she’s been running away from for all these years. I connected with the main character even though if I was in the same predicament I definitely would’ve reacted differently. Definitely recommend to anyone into psychological thrillers of the domestic nature.

She's going to destroy my life..."

A quick and entertaining read, Lesley Sanderson always surprises me with where she is going to take me next. This fast paced domestic thriller, though predictable in part, was an enjoyable read that was a little surprising by the end. Namely because of the "secret". That wasn't the surprise as such, as I had worked out what happened there, but it was what followed. To me, it did and didn't make sense. I guess it is all comes down to perspective. And who sees what and why and how... And so we have THE MISTRESS NEXT DOOR, a fun and entertaining read where the pages pretty much turned themselves.

Prospect Close is a community in which neighbours look out for each other...or are they really? Could it just be a subterfuge for spying on each other? That's the claustrophobic sense Harriet gets from the close-knit community ever since she moved their five years ago with husband Oliver. Two years he promised her, then they'd sell and move to the country where they would bring up their family. But then she fell pregnant with the twins, Tess and Tilly, and their lives were taken up with double the nappies, double the nightime feeds, double of everything. Harriet may have two arms but there's only so much a woman can do, and carrying a twin in each whilst seeing to their needs at the same time can be a little difficult. And so their plans were put on hold.

Then Lucy came along six months ago and suddenly five years have past and Oliver shows no sign of slowing down or selling up and moving like he'd promised. More to the point, Harriet suspects he is hiding another secret altogether...one he doesn't wish for her to find out.

Oliver is a banker working a demanding job and making the commute to London and working suspiciously late hours. Is he up to his old tricks again? Harriet suspects so and this time she is determined to find proof and have all her ducks in a row before confronting him...but is she just imagining things?

When Tilly disappears briefly from the communal park at the centre of their community, Harriet fears her past has caught up with her and that everything is about to crumble. What makes matters worse is that Oliver is away in France for a conference weekend and is seemingly unreachable. Harriet and the police have both tried contacting him to no avail, leaving Harriet wondering (once Tilly was found safe and well) what he was really up to.

And then she discovers an anonymous note left in her handbag. Tilly's disappearance was more than her little girl just wandering away and it is only just the beginning it seems. Someone is out to unmask her for who she really is and the past from which she has run for two decades. Maybe she doesn't deserve to have a family after all. And when Oliver does return from his wayward weekend, he is unconcerned as to the seriousness of the situation, palming off Harriet's fears as mollycoddling and irrational. Even going so far as to question whether she has post natal depression. But all his behaviour does is raise even more doubts...which poses the question...is his mistress closer than she thinks? Could she even be one of her neighbours? One of her friends? Even the nanny? Can Harriet trust anyone?

THE MISTRESS NEXT DOOR is a fast paced and entertaining read which I didn't want to put down if not for the matchsticks propping my eyelids up in the wee hours. It was like a car crash where you just couldn't look away. Harriet and Oliver's marriage was obviously a train wreck. Oliver was a philanderer, make no mistake. Anyone with eyes could see that and that's no spoiler because he does nothing to prove otherwise. All he does is gaslight Harriet even further making her second guess herself, make promises he obviously does intend to keep and then continues to lie to her over and over again. From his very first dialogue to the penultimate climax, the guy couldn't lie straight in bed.

The threatening notes sent to Harriet give little away. All that it does is stir up Harriet's emotions and leave us wondering what her big secret was. As the story unfolds it soon becomes clear before it is even actually spelled out. And I admit it is one that left me a little confused because as I said at the beginning it did and didn't make sense. I can't say much more without revealing too much. But I'll leave it up to you to decide.

The story unfolds through Harriet's first person narrative, with a third person POV in the past and the odd inclusion of "anonymous" which seemed to suddenly taper off. I would have liked to see a little more them to spice things up a little further maybe.

Overall, THE MISTRESS NEXT DOOR is a quick and entertaining read that is fast paced throughout but the ending is a bit of a let down after all the build up throughout. I still enjoyed the ride getting there though. Another enjoyable twisty read with a few surprises and several unlikeable characters.

2.5 stars rounded down. The synopsis sounded thrilling, and most of the reviews were positive, but this one just didn't work for me.

The whole plot was a clunky mess, and the dual timelines, which I normally love, were confusing and felt disjointed. The characters all seemed one-dimensional and flat, and I couldn't relate to any of them and found the main character extremely annoying.

I thought this would be a clever domestic suspense, and I think it would have been successful had the story focused on the one event that the title suggests instead of trying to have a dual plot line that just wasn't successfully tied in to the main story.

This was my first read by this author, and I'll try another to see if it was just this book or the author's writing style. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this early read. THE MISTRESS NEXT DOOR will publish February 15, 2023.

All the signs were there that Oliver was cheating on his wife, Harriet. But the question is, who was he cheating with?

This story should have been better. I feel like something was lacking and it didn't have that oomph to keep me as engrossed as I should've been. An okay story with an okay group of characters but unfortunately not the thrill to go with it.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. In The Mistress Next Door, Lesley Sanderson weaved a steady paced tale of infidelity, secrets and revenge, which will have readers guessing with each page turn.

The Mistress Next Door introduces Oliver and Harriett. The story, which was told mainly in the present with flashbacks in 2006,  intrigued from the beginning. Several questions came to mind while reading this tale:

Who kidnapped Oliver and Harriett’s daughter?

Who is Oliver’s mistress?

What happened in Harriett’s past?

Who seeks revenge against her for said past?

Who is sending her threatening notes?

I figured out from early the identity of the mistress and the ending confirmed my suspicions. Now, in relation to the events from Harriett’s past, that information slowly unfolded through the chapters dedicated to the flashbacks in 2006. As this information slowly came to light, the motivation for revenge became clear, but how did it connect to the mistress?

Oliver is a jerk. Not only is he cheating, he refused to provide Harriett with emotional support when their daughter went missing. Granted, he was unavailable when the incident occurred, but after returning from his ‘business trip, he didn’t show concern. Harriett’s guilt over her past and fear of it being revealed led to her not informing anyone of the notes. I am not sure how she thought she would have figured out what was going on her own, because honestly, she did nothing besides panicking, entertaining paranoid thoughts, and confronting persons without any real evidence. Doing all this while trying to protect her children proved overwhelming for her.

Despite not being a fan of most of the characters, I wanted to see how the story would unfold. Even though I knew the identity of the mistress, the twist at the end took me by surprise. I can imagine the look on Oliver’s face at that revelation, priceless I am sure. All I can say is Karma. I am happy with how it all turned out in the end as everyone got what they richly deserved.

Overall, The Mistress Next Door was an interesting tale. It shows that not everyone in your circle is necessarily a friend, a truth Harriett will discover in this suspenseful tale by Lesley Sanderson. So grab your copy of The Mistress Next Door and prepare for an intriguing ride. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

I know what you did. You destroyed my life. Now I’m going to take everything from you, starting with your husband. I’m your worst nightmare, and I’m closer than you think.

2.5 ⭐

From the cover and the title I expected to get a chill, very middle-of-the-road thriller. A fun afternoon but not more than that.

But even with my expectations not being very high, this book just wasn’t it for me. It failed to intrigue me or to keep my attention. I wouldn’t say it was bad exactly, but there was nothing in it for me.

The whole thing starts when a child goes missing, and soon after the mother gets a threatening note. There’s already a lot of secrets going on around their house, with her husband cheating and her own mistakes from the past.

It sounds like it might be a fun time, but it was really a dull story with lots of repetition. I really wished we got more from the mistress’ perspective, it would have added a certain edge to the whole thing. I also have questions about the ending - certain things didn’t quite add up.

What I liked was that it was a very consumable story, easy to fly through. The book had its good moments, but the bottom line is it wasn't for me.

Uh.. It was really a slow start. Then it went better but the end let me down.

Nothing was connected before the end and maybe for someone this is ok. This kind revange think are never something special.

The think I like anyway was the main character. I would really scream to open her eyes. Really to blind or too in love.

Thank you Bookouture and Netgalley for this opportunity.

Fairly standard domestic suspense territory. In the land of domestic suspense, all men are slimy cheating creeps and women are all potential rivals. I am so glad I live in a different world.

“The Mistress Next Door” featured a very claustrophobic housing development at the center of the story. That was probably my favorite aspect of this story that at least made it special. The ending was ludicrous and just shy of awful. My version was narrated— she did a nice job with the different British accents.

In all, the story clipped along well at a brisk pace, and this book got the job done. Thank you to #netgalley #bookouture and #lesleysanderson for the complimentary copy in exchange for my honest review.

Harriet and Oliver live in a friendly community, the exclusive Prospect Close. One day, whilst at the playground, one of Harriet's twin daughters goes missing. The characters come alive on the pages and the tale moves along swiftly. There are many secrets, lots of misdirection and Harriet has a difficult time determining the truth along with the reader. Highly recommended.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

3.5 stars

This book was okay. It was dramatic and suspenseful but simultaneously a bit predictable at times. The ending was fine but wasn’t anything groundbreaking…I finished it a few days ago and am already a bit foggy on the details, so it didn’t stick with me as much as others have. It was fine, interesting enough till the final reveals, and I’m sure some major thriller fans will enjoy it.

The Mistress Next Door
By: Lesley Sanderson
4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This author has quickly become one of my favorites. I have read several of her books and they are always gripping page turners.

Harriet and Oliver have three daughters. Oliver works hard and is hardly ever home which causes tension. Harriet becomes suspicious of her husband when she receives a terrifying note after one of the twins disappears. Thankfully she is found quickly.

She finds out that he has been seeing her best friend. Oliver has cheated in the past. Harriet also has a past that she has not shared with her husband.

What are the motives of her best friend? Harriet has no idea what is coming next.

There are so many twist in this novel that I was engaged with EVERY word. Thank you Bookouture and Netgalley for this novel due out Feb 15, 2023.

This took a bit to get into, and is a bit of a slow burn suspense novel (after the initial adrenaline jolt, at least!). There are dual timelines, and a couple of viewpoints. Our FMC is the main viewpoint, but there is another anonymous voice sprinkled in. Her husband is definitely worth a throat-punch, and I had an inkling about the prior event that was the catalyst for all of the events in the book. A good novel though, I would recommend checking it out.

Harriet is a mum of three living in an exclusive neighborhood. Her nanny up and quit, and trying to get her trio of girls through their day and work her burgeoning business out of her home, she’s becoming stressed. And when one of her girls goes missing from the park? That’s just the beginning.

Thanks to NetGalley for the copy to review

Cheaters are SO EFFING STUPID. They're all the same, gas lighting assholes. "I'm not cheating on you, you're crazy." then "I broke it off, it won't happen again and it didn't mean anything." then "You can't leave me, I don't want you to leave me. You can't take the kids. Are you sure you're not crazy?" I'm so tired of hearing "I want us to try." from this cheating asshole. It doesn't friggin' matter what HE wants.

Anyway, Oliver is a cheater and Harriett is his wife. They live in a fish bowl basically and someone (or someone's) in her neighborhood are out to get her). She made some sort of life altering mistake as a child and it has followed her and now caught up to her. It's really hard to feel bad for her for keeping this secret from her childhood that changed (and ended) lives. Who really could she trust though I guess? Very few people obviously.

This one is twisty and messy and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. If you like mystery thrillers then this book is for you.

The intriguing prologue by an anonymous character sets the scene for a domestic drama that will grip, satisfy and thrill the reader.
Lesley Sanderson’s latest is a tense, dramatic and entertaining read.
Harriet and Oliver live in the exclusive Prospect Close.
The neighbours are friendly and welcoming.
But behind the doors of their friends, is mystery and secrets.
Soon Harriet’s perfect life begins to crumble.
Oliver begins to act different, strange goings on happen and threatening notes appear.
It all leads to Oliver cheating on her.
Then Harriet’s past is about to catch up to her.
And the mysterious mistress has revenge on her mind…..
A good, steady build of suspense plot with a great twist and a cast of suspicious characters.
Enjoyable and entertaining that I read in two sittings.
A plot that will have you guessing all the way through.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review

The Mistress Next Door is about Harriett whose daughter one day disappears while her husband was away on a business trip. On top of that, she receives a note asking, "are you afraid?". Later, to her great relief, her daughter is found but she continues to receive threatening notes.

I found this book pretty lackluster. Even if I wanted to know who was behind the notes but I wasn’t on the edge of my sit. There wasn’t that much tension.
This is the kind of book that I rather enjoyed but didn’t find memorable, that’s why my review is quite short, I don’t have much to say.
