Patricia Fisher: Ship's Detective #6

Four Ex-Wives and a Wedding

Rate this book
With a billionaire about to get married onboard the Aurelia and a guest list that reads like a celebrity who’s who, tension among the security team is understandably high.

They are being extra vigilant, but that doesn’t stop the bride-to-be receiving a death threat if she dares to go through with the ceremony.

So who sent it and is the threat genuine?

Could it be from one of the groom’s four ex-wives? None were invited, yet they all turned up and while there is no love between them, they appear to be plotting.

It’s Patricia’s job to figure things out and she is glad for every bit of help she can get. Thankfully old friend and celebrity wedding planner, Felicity Philips, is there to lend a hand even if her sleuthing skills are a little … questionable.

Determined to get to the bottom of the mystery before it impacts the wedding ceremony, Patricia is soon thrown off course when a murder occurs.

With a celebrity columnist on the ship stirring things up in the hope of a winning headline, the bride’s skanky family looking for a fast score, and the ship crawling with more celebrities than a red carpet in Hollywood, Patricia has her work cut out.

Oh, and Lady Mary is back, so that will help ... not!

Let's start this off with an invitation to get some FREE books. No, you didn't read that wrong, we are talking about multiple free books. I love giving away free books because once people delve into the fast-paced mystery thrills I write, they go on to buy lots more.

All I need from you is an email address to send them to. Here's the link you need - https://mailchi.mp/fd47a6eb4ae5/patri...

When I wrote my first novel, Paranormal Nonsense, I was a Captain in the British Army. I would love to pretend that I had one of those careers that has to be redacted and in general denied by the government and that I have had to change my name and continually move about because I am still on the watch list in several countries. In truth though, I started out as a mechanic. Not like Jason Statham, sneaking about as a contract killer, more like one of those greasy gits that charge you a fortune and keep your car for a week when all you went in for was a squeaky door hinge.

At school, I was mostly disinterested in every subject except creative writing, for which, at age ten, I won my first award. However, calling it my first award suggests that there have been more, which there have not. Accolades may come but, in the meantime, I am having a ball writing mystery stories and crime thrillers and will claim to have more than a hundred books forming an unruly queue in my head as they clamor to get out.

Now retired from the military, I live in the south-east corner of England with a pair of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, I doubt I will ever leave, the beer is just too good.

Wow , awesome job with this book a great combination of Patricia with some other cameo appearances. Felicity and Mindy are joining the ship as John Oswald is getting married onboard and Patricia has asked Felicity Phillips to Plan the event , taken in by the epic size of the ship on embarking the aunt and niece pairing are agog, this is to be a lavish affair with celebrities, rich and famous people. Then there’s the Ross Family , the young bride’s poor relations . Things get heated in no time when to Patricia’s surprise the groom has invited all four of his ex wives to the wedding . His first wife refuses to allow the wedding to go ahead and the groom is forced to cancel or else. Things go awry with a death , leaving an intricate party accused of murder , there’s robberies amongst the wedding party too and there’s an obvious culprit or culprits in the wedding guest lists. This much to the chagrin of most of the A list guests is all captured spectacularly via internet vlogger The Mouth on a GoPro stick and his girlfriend rolling a camera . With the crimes escalating it’s hard to keep track. So many clues and red herrings for Patricia find her skull is itching more than usual in this latest instalment of the series , having open cases still not solved too (aside from everyday ships detective work ) like the body in the bow with the treasure from the sinking of the San Jose
I received an advance copy of this book and my review is in my own words voluntary

Four Ex-Wives & A Wedding

Patricia sure gets into some fixes doesn't she?! But ain't THAT why we read her stories?? This one seemed to have more twists & turns than usual. Also some not-so-surprising surprises! Does that mean the books are predictable? Yeah, I guess, but not in a bad way! If you're like me, I've read so many of Mr. Higgs' books, that I've kind of learned how he thinks, so you might too! But in this one, he surprised me several times. I like that! I also like that so many characters from other series', or at least their names, showed up here! Does thus mean there might me a "bigger", all inclusive novel somewhere in the future? I certainly hope so! That would be incredible! I know that Patricia is based at sea, but I'd like a few stories to come from her big house, too. Just an occasional variation, not a new series or anything! Maybe an annual or biennial " Homecoming", similar to a church homecoming, or family reunion. Anyway, I apologize for rambling! I just love these books & my mind gets to "thinking" instead of just enjoying them! I am so happy to have found Mt. Higgs' books! He is one of my very favorite cozy authors! It was actually Patricia who introduced him to me!

What an action-filled book this turned out to be. And so many humorous moments, along with a few scares too. All the feels in this one!
A Billionaire's wedding brings all the crazies, I mean celebrities, (hee hee) to the Aurelia. Felicity and Mindy show up, naturally, since it's a big do and that's their thing, but so does another friend or two.
Oh my gosh, I think this is my favorite so far, and there have been a whole lot of Patricia Fisher books. I am fortunate to have read them all and thoroughly enjoy them.

So many suspects, so little time!
I'm pretty good at figuring out the guilty party ahead of time, but this story had so many suspects I was clueless until the reveal. Loads of twists and turns and filled with one situation after another as the body count rises. Patricia needs to get this sorted quickly! I loved how characters from other series appeared in the story to keep the suspense at an all-time high! Brilliant!

I just love this series! It has a great cast of characters, mysteries to solve, romance thrown in and the reader gets to travel the world. One of the best part of this series is the reader can never, ever guess who done it! I cannot say that each book in this series gets better because they are all so good!

Utterly delightful!

At long last, another book following the escapades of Patricia and her team. Steve Higgs had an unequalled talent for writing laugh-out-loud scenes, and there is a doozy in this book that made me laugh so hard my stomach hurt. I loved the references he made to characters from his other series, too. I can’t wait for Patricia’s next adventure.

Patricia solves Another

Steve Higgs writes the most delightful cozy mysteries. Patricia Fisher is absolutely the best with her wacky crew of helpers , Barbie, Jermaine, Sam, and the wonderful ship’s crew assigned to her. This gig as the ship’s detective is the best yet. More, Steve, more!

Love.

I still love the Patricia Fisher stories. Good mystery, often more than one. Great characters I know and love … and love to laugh with. And a huge city on the ocean or a lovely locale they’ve stopped at for a location. And Patricia can always be counted on to do something crazy that will have you laughing out loud.

Patricia's responsibilities as the official ship's detective have grown, as has her loyalty among the security staff. She is relying on her entourage to find out things quite heavily, although Barbie and Jermaine get little time working with her. Her hair-brained scheme doesn't quite go off right and she misses the 'who' in the who-done-it, to the detriment of several people.

Patricia and her friends are as much fun as ever

I didn’t deduce who did it. I laughed. I always enjoy crossover characters from Steve’s other series. This book is a good time and it’s 1:43am. Couldn’t put it down.

Trying to hold a celebrity wedding on the Aurelia with the groom’s ex-wives doing everything they can to prevent it and murders or the threat thereof adding danger to the mix, Patricia and Felicity have their hands full. A fun read.

I received an arc copy of the book.

Wonderful book! I didn’t realize it was the last in the series until next February 2024. I would have read it more slowly.
I adore Steve Higgs way of producing mayhem. In this book all the usual characters are up to the task of helping Mrs. Fisher keep the Aurelia running.

Not as zany as usual

Wedding planner Felicity, and her niece Mindy are on board for the wedding of a billionaire and his 21-year-old bride. Even detective Mike Atwell puts in an appearance.

However, this book was rather ho-hum compared to Higg’s normal zany humour.

Always a joy to read, try to beat Patricia to the solution, and LAUGH!

I am so happy to be back "on the Aurelia" after a brief to 1920s cozy mysteries. I know it's not my reality, but I feel that it is real, and so wish it were mine!

this one is better than previous books. at least I didn't have to skip to the end to find out what happened.

the May and December wedding. I don't know about this. I wouldn't be able to marry someone so old that can be my grandpa.
