Immortality sucks.

Just when I was mentally giving myself a high five for outguessing Lauretta Hignett and figuring out the faults in the plot of “Immortal Ghost”, she cheekily turned everything on its head. Bravo!
I like prequels because they give me a chance to get an idea of what a series is about and, as they generally tend to be shorter than your average novel, I don't have to waste time ploughing through garbage.
This is, however, a lovely read and I am looking forward to reading the series.
Imogen Gray is immortal and miserable – after thousands of years and countless painful reanimations she just wants it all to end.
The only person who can possibly help is her father – through the centuries she has met him several times but he proved unwilling to help. This time, she's sure, the outcome will be different.
But the only way to find him is find a blood witch first and to do that she needs blood, lots of it. Which explains why Imogen is working as a volunteer in a local pet shelter.
Over her long lives she's learnt a lot and remembers some of it. Cats for example she knows to be the result of a failed demon experiment:- “… many cats would happily murder their owners and wear their skin like raincoats if they had half the chance. They were smart enough to know who filled their food bowls, though, so they happily danced down the line between love and murder.”
The book has a hilarious section concerning sex in songs. I am not given to blushing but Lucille Bogan's 'Shave 'em Dry' (1935) is particularly ribald.
It's great fun.

When your life gets in the way of your death, you become the Patron Saint of Rescue Animals!
As a caveat, this is a new to me author and I have not read any of the rest of this series. I picked this up for a fun and quick read, and boy is that ever what I received! Imogen is like any normal human being, but not. Catch my drift?! She gets hurt and takes time to heal, she just doesn’t ever die. If something wonky can happen, Imogen will find it, LOL! I am hooked and working on getting the actual first book of the series to see what other types of antics Imogen can get herself into.

Interesting short story. Imogen is eons old and not sure exactly what she is. Her parents died before they could tell her. She appears to be early 20's. She's been hunted for eons with the hunters thinking their get her immortal life if they kill her. Others try to take her skin. Everything is very painful, then she dies and then she's alive. She tries to avoid people. She had been trying to track down her father's family but all she found was a flesh eating monster who was involved with 2 men running a dog fighting ring. Now the ring is broken up and the monster ate the bodies of all involved and Imogen killed it. The shelter was given a large donation so their good work could continue. The End.

Imogen Gray is a 200,000 immortal being but has no idea what kind. So she needs to find her father so he can tell her. But he's dead. So her plan is to find a blood witch to do a spell to find her father. Since blood witches need blood, Imogen thinks the witches are coming to animal shelters and adopting pets for their blood. She is now volunteering at a shelter so she can check out the names of people who have adopted several pets.
This is a short novella that gives some background to Imogen's long life. It's funny, weird and a bit gross, but in a fun way. No, really. I suspect it's not for everybody.

Imogen is a litlle bit selfish, not tipically my favorite kind of character. But I can totally understand, she is old, she had enough, she has no more fucks left to give.
As it turns out, maybe she still has some left somewhere deep down. I can learn to like her. I would have liked her a bit more if she saved everyone, or solved the whole situation. It would have only cost her a phone call. But oh well, no one is perfect.

this does a great job in telling the prequel world of Imogen Gray, It had what I enjoyed from the rest of the series. The characters were great and I look forward to reading more from Lauretta Hignett.

I enjoyed this prequel novella. It was good to see this side of Imogen. Her wicked sense of humour and snark is simply divine! I loved how she took down a certain someone with her intimate knowledge of music lol, possibly my favourite part.

After reading the Imogen Gray series and starting in on the Foils and Fury collection, I found this little novella gem.. . Absolutely entertaining and we’ll worth the $3!

This was a cute but unexpected story. I liked the MC, she's a bit of a kick-butt person. It's hard to not spoil it so, just read it. A nice break from the gushy cheesy romance books I accidentally picked up but never finished.

I already "met" Imogen when I read Oops I Ate a Vengeance Demon, so I knew a little bit about her before reading this prequel (which I read before reading the Imogen Gray series). The main setting of this book is a vet clinic, and there's a lot of discussion of pet deaths. I had a bit of a hard time with that, but it's necessary to the plot. Imogen needs to find a blood witch to help her find the reincarnation of her father, and a blood witch needs - you guessed it - blood. As long as I kept telling myself that the animals aren't real, I was able to enjoy the story. I did! Enjoy it, that is, and when I finished I jumped right into Imogen Gray #1.

Cute short story. I really enjoyed Imogen and the way she ended up helping the shelter when she was only trying to get information she needed. She is very quirky and fun and I look forward to reading her series.

Short sassy humorous action tale.
Wonderful intro to the Immortal series, and for those who.love Immortal already, a tasty tidbit!!!

This is a prequel, and it's an excellent one. It's a bit intense in places, but the bad guys all get their due, and the main character is a delight. I'm definitely planning to read the rest of the series. Highly recommended!
