Highlands of Scotland, 1284 Keira Montclair expertly combines historical knowledge with romance and intrigue in this amazing story! Having found Constance, with several others, while tracking a network of brigands who sold women to far places, Daniel just could not leave her at the nunnery she wished to join. They had spent time together and his affections had grown to the point of love. But she had some secrets and needed to stay hidden so does not go with him even though he declares himself! I truly loved these two characters and could almost feel their emotions coming through the pages. Daniel is self conscious due to the loss of one hand and feels she may not want him due to his disability. Constance fears her secret will harm those she cares about and needs to stay hidden. Prepare to be glued to the pages with this tale that has all the ingredients needed for a perfect historical romance! Suspense, secrets, romance and of course cruel people determined to get what they wanted! Although part of a series, this can be read as a standalone, but trust me, you will want to read them all!! Well done!
I think this is the first time I read an historical romance where the hero is so young, only 17, but he does come across much older in the story. I really enjoyed reading this book and even though the H and h aren't together for more than half the story, it was still interesting to read what they were up to while apart.
This story includes a one handed hero, a spirited heroine, secrets, lies, danger and a passion between 2 people who are most definitely meant for each other. The way is long before they can find their HEA, though, and while Daniel joins a fighting club to learn more about the group who kidnaps and sells young people, Constance is on the run from 3 groups of men who are after her.
Well written, kept my interest and since I haven't read all of the previous books in this series, I will now make sure I do!
I really liked Daniel and Constance! Their romance was fun and flirty. It was also nice to be back in some common settings since the first few books jumped around a lot location wise. These books are quick reads so I feel like the common threads/characters are a big driver in what makes them enjoyable.
This is a good Highlander romance, and a good addition to the Band of Cousins series. It can be read standalone, but will be much better if you read the Clan Grant series and Highland Clan series first. That is because there are many, many characters in this story, most of whom were introduced in one of the other two series.
This one gets 3.5 stars from me, rounded up to 4 stars.
I liked Daniel, and thought he was good for Constance. It did bother me that it took him so long to believe she could love a man with a missing hand, though, especially after she told him it didn't matter -- he was just sure that no woman could love a man who couldn't protect her.
I liked Constance, and understood how her fear drove her behavior. I did think that she overreacted to her father's temper, but I can see how a young woman might do that. I liked how Daniel's disability didn't bother her at all.
I was glad that Daniel and Constance found their HEA -- they were good together, and they both needed someone who understood them.
I also liked most of the other characters, especially the children, who were adorable. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
Constance was a special girl with a big heart and a desire to teach girls how to read and have confidence in themselves. She had a gift of being a friend to those that needed a friend. When she met Daniel she didn't see his loss of a hand as making him a lessor person. They quickly had a special bond and were attracted to each other in spite of their different lifestyles. Daniel was there to discover the source of the group kidnapping and shipping young girls out of the country for money. He was part of the group that captured Constance's friend Rose's mother and freeing a boatload of girls. Rose's mother then put a bounty on Constance blaming her for her capture. Unbeknownst to Daniel who was looking for clues undercover in the city trying to find the source of the evil group Constance had been capptured. He manages to infiltrate the group and is sent out to capture the red headed girl that happens to be Constance and bring her back. This leads to a large battle when 2 groups wanting the red jewel and reward for her as well as her father trying to find his run away daughter come together against Daniel, his cousins and his family's Warriors fighting to protect Daniel and Constance and capture the men working for the evil group. Daniel is seriously injured in the Battle and his family and Constance fear for his life. He must live since they have married and have a future together.
Highland Fortitude by Keira Montclair Band of Cousins Series Book Five Daniel Drummond has worked hard to be a warrior—even if he's only a one-handed one. He'd felt confident and strong once he decided to accept the loss of that appendage. Until the day he lost that confidence. Thought having one hand made him less...unable to protect those he cared for.
Constance was still at the abbey, even after her friend Rose had married and left. Rose had invited her to come to Grant Castle with her, but...she had secrets. Secrets that she had to keep to herself and she had to stay hidden. Not put her friends in the path of danger. And that included keeping Daniel safe. Even though her heart wished for so much more.
The Band of Cousins has dwindled a bit as they slowly are getting married off. But the trouble is still real. There is still a Channel of Dubh that is stealing young lasses to ship out of Scotland. So, the cousins that could still were fighting the battle. They had to find out who's behind it all and stop this human trade. Every one they took out, helped—but it needed to end. **Sexual content https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
I have really enjoyed this series. I haven't read them all, they are stand alone stories. As with many series, there are cross over character's and this one has many. I feel you would enjoy if you read the series, plus it is amazing.
This story has the couple apart a lot, so little on romance. The H is missing his hand and he misreads the h wanting to go back to the Abbey. This story has a lot of misunderstandings and secrets. I did understand the h's reason for her secret. If they would have been honest with each other, their lives would be simpler.
Near the end when so many enemies appear at the exact same time, I thought was far fetched.
There is lovemaking, outside of marriage, heat level 3.5 out of 5 and briefly described. Then once within marriage, heat level 3 out of 5.
The h's bold actions after the battle I thought was out of character and all the H's relatives back off, didn't ring true to me.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, little on romance because apart a lot, and steam. Have suspense, twists, touch of paranormal (which I loved) and a unique series. Little on editing issues. (ljb)
A definite 5 star story. The story starts with a terrified heroine and a physically flawed hero. I felt such pity for the less than perfect hero, Daniel, he had so much to try to overcome. It was hard for me to accept a less than perfect man to admire. And the heroine, Constance, was not the innocent maiden, as so many leading ladies are. But just wait a little, and that all changes. He becomes the strong, handsome, kind, loving hero you dream of. And she a strong kick butt heroine, but yet sweet, loving and so kind. This is a warm return, for me, to the beloved Grant/Ramsay Clan, Family, and Friends I have so loved and admired. The story has adventure, thrills, a little magic, all sweetness, but with a little spice. Something for everyone. As you probably have guessed, I highly recommend this, as I do all of her books.
This story is intense and action-packed. The characters are wonderful, but very immature, given their age that is to be expected. There's a maturity to him wanting to marry Constance, but he fails to find out the reason. Like all young men, he assumes it is because he is one-handed. My one problem with the story is that Daniel thinks like a mature warrior, yet he is only 17 years old. If it wasn't for the ages that the author used, I would have given it 5 stars. Daniel's maturity was out of character for his age. We watch Constance grow as she learns that running from her problems is not the answer, and standing for what she believes and wants will get her a long way down the road. I liked these two together.
Daniel and Constance's story was fun. There were several laugh out loud moments throughout the entire adventure. I also loved the apparition again and Connor 's reaction is priceless. Daniel internally is self-concious about his disability, but his growing attraction for the fiery red head is messing with his head. Constance continues to be attracted to Daniel since the first time she met him. Her problem is she holds tight to a secret and she ends up hurting Daniel.
Logan Ramsay and Michel are in this story as well. It is so good to catch up with what is going on in their lives as well.I
Ms Montclair has done it again. Another excellent read. It has all you need in a good medieval read, romance, action, suspense. As usual the characters are well developed and the story well thought out and easy to follow. I enjoy these books because they are not full of fillers, just the story. Although this is part of a series about finding a cruel group of people stealing children, you can read each book as a stand alone but once you have read one, you will want to read the rest as it is like reading about your family. You get to know each of the very much extended family a little more each book. Another book you can’t go wrong with. I received this as an ARC.
I love these stories. I cant imagine how Keira does it but she has a gift a beautiful talent. Her stories are touching and although they are serving a time so long ago they transcend decades. Daniels gift with his one hand of fighting. It took him a while but he realized his strength with or without it. The special kids they met along the way and if course Constance was perfect for Daniel. I am ready for Gavins story Happiest of Reading. And thank Keira Montclair for the adventurous time I have when reading your books.
Daniel and Constance meet when he and his cousins are investigating the channel. They spend sometime together at Daniel's many family member home until men show up look for lassies and she has him take her back to the abbey. He thinks she doesn't love him so he ends up investigating the underground and fights to prove himself to the boss. They end up meeting again when he learns that the boss wants the lass with flaming red hair and a ruby and learns that there are three groups looking for her.
This was a wonderful story with an awesome hero and heroine. I genuinely liked both Daniel and Constance and enjoyed their story immensely. It must have been hard for someone back in this time period to have to deal with the loss of a hand or any other body part but Daniel overcame the loss of his hand and showed others he was quite able to take care of himself as a man with two hands could. I thought it was wonderful that Constance was able to look past Daniels disability to see the fine man he truly was. Great romance!
Another winner from Keira Montclair! I loved Daniel and Constance as a couple - how they matured and their love grew. We are getting so close to finding the evil people kidnapping the lads and lasses to sell for profit. This is such a great new tale in the Band of Cousins Series and I am really looking forward to the next adventure. I was gifted this ARC and have voluntarily given my opinion of the book - I highly recommend this book and the whole series for your enjoyment!
Just like his father Daniel is handsome and when he finds the girl he wants he is relentless. He wonders if he deserves her love due too missing hand. They have a mystery of who Constance is, you meet a fighter named Damien, and a underground human trafficking problem to solve. Great story, hearing about the clans is always great. Will Daniel have a love to rival that of his parent? You will have to read and see!
Rating 3.5 Daniel and Constance are good protagonists. Especially Daniel. It's funny how he became more confident in himself when he was fighting and winning. If he had kept at it, his face would have been a mess and his brain would have been jello.
I did get confused when three groups were searching for Constance. I can't remember why the third group was looking for her.
I'm looking forward to Connor's book. It appears that there are going to be women fighters in the next book. It will be interesting how Montclair develops the plot.
Wkw! They keep coming closer to the real identity of the villains behind the kidnapping of girls, the channel of dubh! This was a great addition to the band of cousins series! Loved it! Daniel is awesome as a handicapped fighter! Such an awesome couple. Can't wait to see what comes next! Great read!
I loved Daniel frm the get...he is such a funny and intelligent guy....not everyone can do well with only one hand but Daniel excelled...I love tht Keira also made him vulnerable with Constance...she is good for him...this book was amazing...great read.
I enjoyed this story just as much as ever other story I have read by this very talented author It is an adventure from the beginning to the end I.Love how the characters from another story mixes with each other from every New book
The saga of the Band of Brothers continues in this story of Daniel. Ms. Montclair tells the tale with wonderful detail and creativity that the reader can hear the cheers as the Devil’s Hand wins the fighting matches. A wonderful story to read.
Another awesome story! This is one of my favorite authors. Her books never fail to grab and hold you firmly from beginning to end. She is an automatic read for me.
Another great story with the band of cousins book 5 characters are Constance and Daniel always like the reunions daniel has come a long way even though Constance loved him for who he was would highly recommend 👍👍
I love your writing so much I just can't get enough of them . You do a very good job, your research does a good job, and your stories are so good. Thank you again. Ada G.
I loved Daniel and Constance story, it was a fast pace story that didn't let up until the end. Daniel working his way through the fights to try and get in the channel of dubd. Seems everyone under the sun was looking for Constance. Next book.
This is about a group of cousins and their ongoing fight with a bands of men stealing lasses and selling them overseas. One of the cousins fall in love with a lass from the Abby. This is their story
