Welcome to the dark and dangerous world of the Society of Secrets! Power. They have it. I don't.
Simmering below the surface of Manchester lies a secret underworld where power is currency, and I have none.
Finally being free from years of study at Manchester University, I’m thrust into the high-powered world of investment banking. The game is thrilling, but I find myself distracted by the players… four of them, to be precise. Two wealthy brothers, a shipping heir and their leader, a Viscount’s son.
As I fall even deeper down the rabbit hole, I realize I can't escape. These distractingly handsome men have claimed me, and they are dragging me under the surface of the bustling city into their shady world.
Will I resist my dark desires, or will I dive headfirst into this secret society and all the danger it entails?

This is the sixth and final book in this shared world series of standalone novels. I was completely hooked right from the start and didn't want to stop reading. The story completely draws you in and definitely gives you the Wonderland / Secret Society feel. The characters are amazing and well written. I love Bailey and her men, they definitely heat up the pages. Check for any triggers you may have.. I highly recommended this book.
I have such mixed feelings about this book because on the one hand, I actually liked all three of the MMCs. But I passionately hated the FMC from beginning to end.
I think this may be a first read from this author for me, so I don't know what their typical FMC is written like. But I almost stopped the second I read: "I brush my luxurious hair out and sweep it into a neat bun on top of my head....I apply a small amount of makeup, never needing more than the basics." Nobody loves the gorgeous FMC who has to do nothing to be gorgeous and is perfect but maybe doesn't know she's perfect until the men prove it to her. It's such an overplayed and unappealing trope. The MMCs also mention she's a "force of nature" several times but if this girl isn't the dang weakest FMC I've read in a long time I don't know who would be! She's CONSTANTLY crying (and as a crier myself I totally get it but pull yourself together girl) and even gives herself a pep talk around 40% about how she's the one with all the power and she's going to be a bad ass bitch from here on out. And then she cries when she has water dumped on her.
I finished it because I was invested in the MMCs. One of the MMCs is a virgin with some issues around touch, which is always a unique twist in these big bad mafia-esque books and it's great to read about a vulnerable man. Some of the dirty talk has some real cringe moments, but otherwise the spice scenes are pretty solid. There's a hint of m/m but we never really get to explore it more which is a shame, the hazard of a shorter standalone I suppose.
Anyway it was a good intro to the author (although now I feel like I should double check to see if that's true) and I always appreciate a stand alone RH because I don't always have it in me to commit to a five book series. If I pick up another one of their books in the future and the FMC is written in the same way, I'm gonna have to tap out though.
Power is what we all crave but it's such a interesting thing. Power can mean many things, money, control over others, a choice. Bailey so desperately wanted power she thought it meant wealth or control over her existence...she has it all wrong. There's power in love and power in submission. I thoroughly enjoyed this why choose romance with all its cloak and dagger stuff. Surprisingly Owen and Finn are my star players. Archer is great but he can't give the emotions like Owen can nor is he the silent protection like Finn. The best part of this novel isn't even the spice or plot it's the praises from Archer, my God that man has a mouth on him. 10/10 would read again. I can't wait until the next book.
WOW WOW WOW Oh my beating black heart. Bailey is one extremely lucky woman, ok she hasn't had the best life so far but now she's in the clutches of the King, Knave and Mad Hatter of the House of Hearts - her life is about to change drastically! I love and adore Archer, he's such a gorgeous, dark, silver tongued love and he knows just how to love those he's close to. Then there's Owen, oh my darling, he's such a sweetie with a major sta!ker soul....and then we have, oh my dark soul, Finn who is absolutely perfect the way he is, unique and utterly, perfectly himself - there's broken souls then theres Finn, oh he's my guy. Bailey might not know what plottings going on, but she sees each and every guy and loves him for who he is, she doesn't try to change them, she accepts them for themselves and this is beautiful especially with Finn. This is dark Rh with stunningly beautiful souls. A keeper on my Kindle for definite. A sure rereader.
