Suamalie Islands #3

The Title Wave

Rate this book
All he wants to do is help people, but local women want to help themselves… to him!
When Henri Tupuola returned to Suamalie to open his holistic mental health clinic, he had no idea what he was getting into. After ten years in Australia getting his degree and practical experience under his mentor, the locals had all but forgotten the quiet “boy”  who had always made them feel like he could see right through them.
Not anymore! The ladies of Lafoina are eager to meet the island’s therapist and spend hours staring deeply into his eyes on their weekly dates… ahem, sessions.
Desperate for relief, he hightails it down to The Title Wave and begs Ezra to order him a couple dozen copies of his own book. Yes, author copies would be cheaper, but he needs these things fast. Maybe if he hands out his book like an old-time quack handed out pills, the ladies will get the hint and leave him alone.
But when he tells his troubles to Ezra (who’s the therapist now?), and she jokes at how much her father would love to have people flocking to his “sessions” so to speak, Henri gets an idea that could save his sanity… if only Ezra will agree.
Take a trip to the Suamalie Islands where palm trees sway, the sand and sea pulse with life, and the people will steal your heart.

**fingers skittle across the keyboard. Stop. Eyelids blink over the top**

Oh, was this bio day? Oops! I forgot. I was lost in my latest manuscript. Umm... bio. Yeah.

Hi! I’m Chautona Havig. (for those who care, that’s Shuh-TONE-uh HAVE-ig). Yeah. Just work with me here. I should have used a pseudonym, but when you grow up with a name like Chautona, it kind of sticks.

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near. ~ Hebrews 10: 23–25

Those aren’t just words on a page for me–they’re why I write. I write to encourage my brothers and sisters in Christ. The stories I create are to make people laugh, cry, question, consider.

They’re for you.

When the world screams for hope, I try to point you to the true Source of hope–Jesus.

Sometimes life in the church no longer seems a refuge from the pain of a self-serving world around us, but through my stories, I try to point you to the only Refuge that can truly help–the Father’s Everlasting Arms.

And sometimes we just need an escape from the monotony, the emptiness we see around us. We need joy, laughter–what I like to call “just the write escape.”

Christian fiction without apology or pretense–lived, not preached.
What does that even mean?
It means I care–about you. About your walk with Jesus. I care about the words you put before your eyes, the mental pictures those words conjure. It’s difficult to express just how much I love my brothers and sisters in Christ. It’s difficult to share just how much I love you.

But I do.

And I write for you. I sit in my little house in California’s Mojave Desert and I write to show you why one sister believes one thing, why a brother believes another. I write to show you how some Christians handle trials or triumphs–for you. So when you’re faced with something–good or bad, it doesn’t matter–maybe it’ll spark a memory. Maybe that memory will smolder until you pull out your Bible and see what the Lord said about it–about His great love for you. For YOU!

And maybe, just maybe, you’ll share that love with another hurting, confused, or blessed-with-more-than-she-knows-what-to-do-with soul.

I just happen to think that’s the most blessed giving anyone could hope to receive.

I picked this book up when it was free and decided to give it a go even if I wasn’t sure it would be my type of book.
Some of the time I liked Ezra and was sympathetic to her, other times I wanted to march up to her and tell her a few honest truths. I really didn’t like it when she gets mad at Henri for being a friend and trying to help her and then staying mad for days. She wanted him to communicate but it was okay for her not to? And then she gets mad at him later for something she isn’t even sure what. And she’s mad at him because he didn’t tell her he loved her just before he moved away for years.
Henri had my sympathies almost the whole time. But good grief, those ladies on the island! No, Henri wasn’t perfect, but he was trying. At least most of the time.
The writing style didn’t feel like Chautona’s style. Maybe she’s changing or maybe this was just a venture into a different style, but I didn’t like it as much.
Maybe it’s just personal preference, but I didn’t really care for a man marrying a woman who was only a few years older than his daughter. That just didn’t sit right with me.
The romance was, of course, the main focus of this story. It was clean with only a few kisses at the end. Lots of not communicating. One creepy guy that showed up once and then was never seen or heard from again so it almost felt odd that he had been in there. I mean I can kind of see why, but at the same time, not. (That probably doesn’t even make sense.)
The Christianity felt very causal. It was there, but it didn’t feel that strong. Maybe the romance just overshadowed it? I don’t know.
Overall it was a fine read. Probably not something I’ll come back and read again, but not something I really disliked either.

I've enjoyed the journey with Ezra form meeting her in the Independence Islands and now in the Suamalie Islands. She's a unique island hopper with her traveling boat bookstore--the Title Wave. Hopefully, her father, Henri, and others don't want to change her quirkiness.
Bravo, Chautona.

The Title Wave is another sweet novel by Chautona Havig which involves travelling to an island chain and travelling by boat. I have always loved Chautona. In fact, every book I have read by her is amazing. They’re so good. You start reading them and then you just can’t stop.

Also, I should say that I fell in love with Ezra when I was introduced to her in a separate series. And then we learned more about her the first book of this new island series. I loved seeing her play a bit of a matchmaker to her father.

In this book, she gets her own romance!

THIS HAS BEEN A LONG TIME COMING!
What can I say about this book?

I could not put it down. It read so fast. I was disappointed when it ended because I wanted to read more! I loved seeing Ezra getting her happy ending but don’t want her story to end. I’m hoping that we’ll see her again in the Suamalie Island book series.

Okay, so this novel. I feel like Ezra and I would be such fast and wonderful friends. Books are obviously a large part of my life and I would love to live surrounded by books!

There is nothing questionable in this book. In my opinion, there is never anything questionable in any of Chautona’s books. You know going into it that it’s going to be an amazing Christian novel. This book is no different and it’s wonderful. Let me know if you get a chance to read it!

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.

"Yes, she should be on her boat, motoring over to Lafoina in plenty of time to grab something to eat before waves of customers swarmed her store, looking for their next read. Well, she could dream, right? Ezra sure hoped so, because that's what she was doing instead - lying in bed, working hard to jump start her stalled dream."

As a preacher's daughter, Ezra Nehemiah was always trying to find her place. And she hoped it might be operating a boat bookstore - one where she could travel along the Suamalie Islands to deliver her dream of providing book escapes for others. But gaining momentum is hard. Then her lifelong friend, Henri, returns, and she finds herself playing the role of his fake girlfriend - a title that she hoped would be real for years.

I wanted to love this book as Ezra has been a fun part of several of the author's book, I have really enjoyed her as a character. But in this book, she seemed overbearing and overly sensitive at times. I really liked Henri, for his love and care for his Ezziemiah was lovely to see. The other characters also added to the storyline, and so did the wedding for two other islanders.

This is evidence of one of my frustration with this book. At one point, Ezra was reading a book and the details of the plot become one of the chapters. That really confused me as I did not think that it made sense. It distracted me to the point that I almost did not want to finish the book.

But the ending was very sweet, so I am glad that I finished it. Several other parts were good. I liked the book but didn't love it like I hoped I would. So this one gets a final rating of 3.5 stars from me, rounded up to 4.

If you have read books from this author before you know how entertaining her stories are. This one was funny in a quirky way with characters that are very relatable. Henri is a man who is very handsome with a practice that finds him seeing all types of people. His job as a therapist finds him listening to problems for hours upon hours during the day. I laughed out loud when his problem was revealed. It seems that every single woman is rushing to make an appointment to see him. What a sad thing to deal with every woman wanting you because you are the most handsome man around. Poor Henri needs to do something fast before he, well I’m not sure what he may do. His plan is nothing short of crazy and really couldn’t he think of something better?

Ezra is trying so hard to make her floating bookstore a success that she has little time for herself. Much to her surprise her old flame shows up on her boat. Now what is he doing and why does she still have feelings for him? Just wait til she finds out what he wants. I can tell you it is not going to set well with Ezra at all.

I thought the idea was a little far fetched and couldn’t understand why Henri with all his brains would even suggest such a silly thing. I guess desperate times calls for desperate measures. Get ready for misunderstandings, laughs and adventure. There is a part in the story where danger puts characters in a situation that could turn out bad. In this moment we witness what unconditional love looks like.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

The Title Wave by Chautona Havig is a Christian Contemporary Romance. As with all of Chautona Havig’s books, I loved the characters and the storyline in this book. I found myself unable to put it down. As the next installment in the Suamalie Islands series, this book captured my attention.

As the next installment in the Suamalie Islands series, I loved how Henri Tupuola returns to the Suamalie Islands to open up his mental health clinic. As Henri deals with the many women who come to see him, he reaches out to Ezra Nehemiah, his childhood friend, to get her to be his “pretend” girlfriend.

With the impending marriage of Ezra’s father and other plot twists, this book kept me reading. Chautona Havig masterfully weaves together a story, including the islands, a bookstore on a boat, and even some poetry, into a fun and entertaining book. Truly, this book is the perfect one for the summer. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

So if you enjoy Christian Contemporary Romances, check out The Title Wave by Chautona Havig for yourself. I definitely recommend it.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

What I think you should know:
The Title Wave by Chautona Havig is the third book in the Suamalie Islands series. The series is Contemporary Christian Fiction set on a fictional set of Islands in the Pacific. The series is written by several authors with stories that have the common connection of the Islands. While you can read this book as a standalone, Ezra and her father were featured in Under the Hibiscus, which will help you better understand Ezra.

What I think about this book:
Fake Relationship/ Friends to More… Sign me up!!! I will admit that I am a Havig junkie, I love her writing, especially the way that she brings realistic characters to life in ways that keep me turning pages book after book. With that said this may be my new favorite book of hers. In this book Havig introduces us to an Island native, Henri Tupuola who grew up with a crush of Ezra, but would never act of it because of their age difference (which is insignificant now as adults). I really enjoyed watching Ezra and Henri get to know each other as adults. This was such a fun book I can’t wait to see what happens next on the Islands!

Chautona Havig continues the Suamalie Island series with The Title Wave. The book includes new characters, characters from other books in the series, as well as cameo spots from Independence Islands characters. It was fun to revisit these characters and see the interconnectedness of the two series.
The Title Wave takes us back to characters we first met in Under the Hibiscus. The book does open with new characters but we soon see the connection between these characters and Ezra (friend of Mallory from the Independence Island series and daughter of Scott from Under the Hibiscus).
Readers will follow the ups and downs of re-establishing a relationship after years apart. They will maybe learn something about building and maintaining a relationship.. They will go through dangerous situations with the characters and be thankful when everything works out okay in the end.
I don’t remember anything in the book that would keep The Title Wave from being included in a K-12 Christian school library. It is appropriate for high school and up.
I received a complimentary copy of The Title Wave. This is my honest review.

Before I get into the story, I have to say,I love this book's name. Anything that plays on words and deals with writing or reading is a winner in my book. It makes me want to immediately read the book.

I also love revisiting characters from previous books. I enjoyed another book in this series not too long ago. So, when I saw this one dealt with the main side character's story, I knew I wanted to read it too. I was not disappointed. There is a quirkiness to the writing style that I enjoy, and I love the idea of a floating bookstore. Plus, there's the romance.

Fake relationships aren't my favorite because of the lying aspect, but I love the twist the author includes to address and fix that issue. I don't know that I've ever seen it written that way before. It allowed me to enjoy the story despite the fake relationship trope.

Overall, I enjoyed The Title Wave. It was fun and fast and a pleasure to read. And I'd say, given its setting, it would make a perfect beach read for the summer.  I give The Title Wave a solid four stars.
I received an ARC of this book through Celebrate Lit. The opinions and reviews are my own and freely given.

The plot of this book would at first seem to be a more than just a little bit complicated:

Ezra Nehemiah (a girl with an unusual name, right?) and Henri Tupuola have loved each other since high school, which was ten years ago; but they’ve always been afraid to tell each other that they love each other, because neither wants to lose the deep friendship that they’ve had. Henri has been away from the islands for ten years and has returned to establish his holistic mental health clinic. The single ladies of the islands won’t leave him alone—so Henri and Ezra decided to have a fake relationship to show everyone that Henri has a girlfriend. The problem is that they both still want to have a real relationship, even though they are fake dating.

See what I mean about complicated? All these complications-combined with some extra twist and turns thrown in-make this a heart-warming story. I loved both of these characters and wanted them to finally find their happily-ever-after together. But did they? It’s an unusual storyline with unusual characters that’s a delight to read.

The Title Wave by Chautona Havig is book three in the Suamalie Islands series. This is a series that is being written by different authors.  This is a fun, well written story to read. I enjoyed going back to the island and seeing what was happening. I tried imagining Henri to see what type of man would get all the attention he got from women. So much so that he would use someone who was so special to him when he was younger. I also tried to imagine what kind of woman Ezra was to agree to his foolish plan. The characters were caring people with a past that held hurts.

It was fun to get the background information on Ezra, her parents and how she got her name. She keeps herself so busy with the bookstore and helping her father and his girlfriend. I enjoyed reading of how she lived on the bookstore boat. It's interesting to see how one could live with so little of today's modern conveniences to get by. This is an enjoyable romance island read to get lost in.

I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book, this is my honest review.

This novel offers a fun and captivating story with plenty of books (on a book boat that travels and sells them!) and some endearing, if not a bit quirky, characters. I recommend reading the previous novel where Ezra’s (a female, by the way) widowed preacher dad got engaged to someone not much older that she is. Set amidst the backdrop of this approaching wedding, Ezra’s own love story plays out. It begins with pretense to help an old friend, but their hearts may not have gotten that message. This island ballgame tags all the bases and scores a home run. It would be a great choice for a relaxing summer read (or anytime really). Your emotions will soar and plunge along with the characters’ as you navigate the churning waters of what might just be a sweet love story. The characters seem bigger than life and the plot captivates readers from the onset. Even if you haven’t read any other titles in this series, this one will sweep you away. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.

The Title Wave is Chautona Havig's second contribution to the Suamalie Island series. This book featured Ezra who we met in the Independence Island Series. I always love seeing what kind of characters that Chautona will create. They are always so fun and unique.

Ezra has a traveling boat bookstore - called the Title Wave. She goes from island to island. Henri has returned back to the island from Australia to start up his holistic mental health clinic. Ezra and Henri have a history - and when they meet again sparks still fly. However, Henri is the most sought after bachelor. Ezra suddenly finds herself playing Henri's fake girlfriend. What could go wrong?

It was nice to catch up with some characters from previous books - and the cover of this book made me smile. The book flows nicely and the story is a fun summer read. Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.

Okay, Hilarious. I carried my kindle around while I did my laundry, I just couldn’t stop reading. I read so fast I forgot to highlight quotes for you. I’ll probably have to make the sacrifice and read it again 🤣

Between the drama of opening a counseling practice on some pretty remote tropical islands as a handsome single guy, and the hazards of opening a floating bookshop that parks at marinas as a small single lady, and the busybody matchmakers, you never know what’s going to happen next.

Throw in a surfer dude with a purse dog, sit back, and watch the action!

This story gets really deep (occupational hazard of counseling, I guess) and still manages to be very funny and sweet and romantic.

I received a copy of the book from CelebrateLit, and chose to review it here. All Thoughts are my own.

The Title Wave is the third installment and Chautona Havig’s contribution to the Suamalie Islands series. It was a delight to travel back to these beautiful islands once again and meeting the main characters, Ezra and Henri. Those two were hilarious together. I could not help but to laugh at some of the events they get into. It was fun and entertaining to read. I could not put it down until the last page.

I am giving The Title Wave a very well deserved five plus stars. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean romance with a beachy setting. I look forward to the next installment from the Suamalie Islands series, Susan K. Beatty’s A Heart for News.

I received a digital copy of The Title Wave from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

Since her early teens Ezra has been in love with Henri and Henri has been in love with Ezra. When Henri returns after years of school in Australia, the sparks still fly between them. The story of their love is so fun to read; how God works, their struggle to admit to one another that they are interested in a relationship, a fake relationship to help Henri ward off the advances of too many women (Henri not intersted in any of them). It all gave me an entertaining time of reading. Sweet and clean as always with this author. I have highly recommended every book I have read by her and this one is no different.

I requested this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

This book was so much fun! We met Ezra in Chautona Havig’s previous book “Under the Hibiscus,” and while that one does come first, this one could certainly be read on its own! (But it will have spoilers for Under the Hibiscus!) In this one Ezra gets her own story, and we get to see what happens when her long-time crush comes to her for help with his problems. Unlike many stories in this genre, this story is not built entirely on miscommunication, though there was a tad bit of that, too. I really appreciated the maturity in Ezra in being upfront with her crush! We also got some fun plot twists! (Don’t go out to sea in a storm!) I very much enjoyed this book and I’m looking forward to enjoying it again!

This story is about a second chance at love. It is the third story in this series. I recommend reading the series before this series to get the full experience of these island books. This is a story about both man and woman loving each other but afraid to let the other one know. It takes a near tragic for them to let each other know. The ending makes me want to read the next book now to see if the (book boat) can be saved. This is also a story about 1/2 of a couple pretending or are they? You can also found out why a girl
has the name Ezra Jeremiah, quite a cute story actually.

This was a cute book to read.
If you like to read about tropical places and fun island settings then this book will meet your fancy.
I enjoyed all the fun parts with the crazy women vying for Henri's attention.
I also loved learning the reason for Ezra's name. (So unique!)
Chautona Havig has been an author I've enjoyed reading and she will continue to be one.
Whenever I pick up one of her books I know it will be a clean read and it will have a sweet story of God's love to us.
I recommend you pick this book up for a fun tropical summer read. Escape to the islands and relax for a bit!

What fun following Ezra (yes, a she) and Henri on their relationship journey. They're sweet and funny, but angst ridden, and sometimes I wanted to smack one or both of them and tell them to get over it. LOL! I loved Chautona's descriptions of the Suamalie Islands. Made me feel as if I was there.

Been wondering what happened to Ezra's father from Chautona's book, Under the Hibiscus? You'll get some answers in The Title Wave.

Bravo, Chautona!

What a fun story! I know when I pick up a book by this author that I will enjoy it. I know that it will be clean and different and funny. The Title Wave certainly met those expectations. I found myself laughing out loud several times as Ezra and Henri talked to each other. There is not as much substance in this book as in many of this authors books, but for a fluffy romance, it was great. I’m looking forward to another visit to the Suamalie islands again sometime.
