The assassin known as Flack wasn’t expecting to become the guardian of his fourteen-month-old niece. His life as an assassin wasn’t exactly family-friendly. Plus, he had no idea how to take care of a baby. How could he work for Guardian Security with a kid in tow? Flack needed help, like yesterday.
Surprises come in unexpected situations.
Addy Wilson was injured while protecting a child from an explosion. No longer able to lead her Special Weapons and Tactics team for the FBI, Addy was looking for a change, a transition until her rehab was complete and Guardian Security once again opened for applicants. The nanny position that required all her skills and had some seriously good-looking benefits was just what the doctor ordered.
Love when you aren’t expecting it is the biggest surprise of all.
When two people who speak the same work language find a common goal—sparks ignite. Yet, the feelings Flack and Addy share are threatened by the mysteries of a rare language and a man intent on exposing the undercover operatives of the world.

We were spoilt by The Siege, every book since has left me wanting more action. This story is everything you expect from a Guardian book, I loved seeing the Shadows at ease throughout most of the book, little Brooke is certainly surrounded by the best and most protective Auntie’s and Uncle’s ever lol Love Addy and would definitely like to see more of her throughout the series. There is action and a little suspense but felt story was primarily Flack & Addy’s relationship journey. I think Ice is up next for the Shadows, let’s hope the woman who brings him to his knees…feeds him too 😂😂😂😂
Flack is a conundrum, as are most Shadows. Addy is a strong female who took a blow saving a child. Together they are a strong couple who likes to make a difference in their own way. It was great catching up with the Shadows and seeing how they all stepped in to help with Brooke and are a family makes this series even better. The case was more of a side note and the forming of their new family the center. The tidbits about Guardian and its rebuilding was good to see as this world is fascinating. A quick and fun read that of course showcased some more shadows and I can’t wait for their stories!
Oh my god! Flack with Brooke stole my heart! He may doubt himself but he is JUST. SOOO. GOOD! And the fact that he worries about it just makes him better. Add Addy into the dynamic and WOW! I love that in this book we get to see the team together, they may work independently but they are a team and I love that they drop everything to answer Flack's call, it definitely adds to the book and the series. I look forward to Ice's book next...he will need a very sassy and feisty lady!
I liked this an awful lot... as I do with many of KM's more recent works. But... I needed way more. I think that 'The Siege' parts 1 and 2 were just so darn brilliant... everything following it had to be a super-nova of a read. I liked this, I liked all of the Guardian characters that were involved. I liked Addison and I liked Brooke. But... I felt short-changed, it really felt like not too much happened. I just needed... more.
Still a good read and I will continue to keep an eye out for future titles from Kris Michaels.
( 4 stars cos whilst it wasn't a rip roaring read... I remain loyal! )
This one was a little lighter. Essence of 3 men and a baby. Strong female (Addy) great partner to Flack. Family played out in so many different variations. Frggin love this series.
I have no clue how Kris Micheals does it, but she knocked this proverbial “ball” out of the whole stadium with Flack Guardian Security World Shadow Book 10! To begin with, I am a devoted fan of hers since I discovered her writing in 2020. What is unusual with Kris Michaels’ books, is that readers do not read them once. Most readers dive into the books numerous times and re-read her multiple series a plethora of times as well. Because we are immersed in Ms. Michaels fiction world of all things Guardian Security, the readers feel like we are literally part of the Guardian “family.”
This novel has a plot which is rather unique to the Guardian Shadow series. With that said, it still provides an amazing and exciting plot interspersed with beaucoup d’humour and main characters who grow and change. Flack is a Guardian Assassin who returns from an oversea mission and finds out the custody of his 14-month old niece Brooke has been dumped in his lap due to a sad twist of fate. So what is a mentally unprepared assassin to do, you ask? He sends out an SOS beacon (non-mission related) to his cadre of fellow assassins who quickly swarm Flack’s domicile to provide “assistance.” They soon find out that the help Flack needs is out of their “wheelhouse,” but they all jump in to help “divide and conquer.”
I am keeping this brief so I do not to give away any spoilers. This is a fantastic novel Kris Michaels novel that will pull on your heart-strings, make you laugh with wild abandonment, and put your faith back in love!
Flack is the tenth instalment in the Guardian Security: Shadow World series by Kris Michaels. I couldn't wait to dive into this series - binging my way through this thrilling blend of high-stakes suspense, military precision, and emotional romance. This series is a spin-off from her Kings of Guardian universe, and dives into the covert, dangerous, and morally complex missions of elite operatives working in the shadows where the stakes are high, loyalty is tested, danger is constant, and love often comes at the highest cost. Each book focuses on a different operative, giving us a fresh perspective each time, while also weaving in an overarching sense of camaraderie and found family. The characters are layered - hardened by their pasts and yet still vulnerable in ways that make them relatable. I recommend reading the series from the beginning, reading each book in sequential order for you to be able to fully appreciate the interconnected relationships and evolving team dynamics. Ms. Michaels doesn’t shy away from the darker realities of covert work, but she also infuses hope, resilience, and the healing power of love into her storylines. So, if you enjoy romantic suspense with military and intelligence intrigue, then you will want to dive into this world and experience all the action, passion, and edge of your seat missions for yourself. Happy Reading…
We’re meeting group of assassins some we’ve known from other books and some we are just getting to know. This is Flack, Addy, and little Brookes story. Flack an assassin that uses poisoned darts, Addy a FBI agent who was recently injured in the line of duty and of course Brooke who is a beautiful 14 month old. Due to some unfortunate incidents the grandparents that were taking care of her after her parents were killed can no longer have custody so it now goes to Flack. Fortunately he gets the backing from his assassin family in helping him get ready for the little one. But who can take care of her when he must leave, this is how we meet the new nanny who is on medical leave from the FBI. Flack, Brooke, and Addy are getting along until a situation arises in Brazil. Kris has taken us from the carefree life of getting used to having a nanny and little to another action adventure for them in Brazil. You will laugh, cry, and hold your breath waiting to see how this book ends.
Another Shadow meets his match and morphs away from Shadow World - at least the most deadly part. Flack is a lawyer and he works the front end of many coded operations. When he receives word that his baby niece is in the hospital, teetering on the edge of foster care, he calls in his Shadow friends for a conference - and what a scene it is. They each offer assistance in their own way, including their very substantial shopping prowess. Overnight, baby Brooke has everything a wealthy toddler should have - except a nanny. The interviews for the nanny are also funny, if only for their brevity. When former FBI agent Addison walks in the door, game over. She and Flack spend what seems to be ten minutes examining why they should not have a fling while she is working for him. That turns out to be a non-starter. Just as they are finding their rhythm, Flack is asked to do an unusual mission, involving his knowledge of an indigenous language. It turns out to be something else, and a hurried exit is necessary. The end becomes a beginning for baby and family.
when I read the dust cover I thought hmmm. I'm not a baby single-man trope. But this is Kris Michaels so I was willing to give it a go. the main part of the book was centred around the h and H and little h which built the scene beautifully between the characters. and I loved the past and future characters popping up. Unlike other romances, this one builds the emotional side virtually in reverse, and I found it refreshing. There wasn't as much hot chemistry in this book and I didn't mind a bit, it was just simple emotion and the growing into love. Then we get serious, and the mystery and angst begins. Just loved the kickass h and how she rolls into the storyline it was a different angle than other books and I enjoyed the plotline. it's always amazing how Kris manages to find a way to bring her many alphas into a new kind of work with family. I'm so interested in knowing about Ice's story. matt haynes...sigh...what can I say, simply wonderful. absolute perfection. yet another great book.
I am an odd person out, here. I believe the other readers must have read other books in the Guardian series. This is my first read and I was totally lost. There should have been a directory at the beginning explaining who everyone was. Many people popped in and out and the reader was expected to know who they were. Plus, there should have been a directory of terms. What is Dom Ops? I have never heard of it and it was never explained. I assumed it had to be another espionage agency.
The story dragged. Most of the book was getting to know Brooke. There was even several pages spent on unpacking boxes, flattening boxes, etc. There was no action until toward the end. Even the case worker entered for a few pages and was never heard of again. The agency took care of her.
This was the second book that I have read by Kris Michaels. I did not like the other book and really did not care for this one. I may try the first book in the Guardian's various series. So many people seem to like her. So I must not have read the right book.
OMG I think I love Flack and the way he stepped up for Brooke
Flack steps up to take custody of his fourteen month old niece after she is put in the hospital for neglect by the grandparents who were supposed to be taking care of her. Now he needs to get everything he needs before he brings her home so he puts out an SOS call to his friends. They all show up and get things done for him. Now he needs to hire a nanny and luckily Addy is looking for a new job since she she was in an explosion that caused her to lose hearing in one ear while working for the FBI and refuses to do a desk in that will suck the life out of her and she is great with Brooke when she shows up for the interview. Now will they be able to keep things professional or will they seccumb to their I start attraction. When Flack gets called to do a job in Brazil, will he be able to keep Brooke and Addy safe until he can get them back home?
No plot spoilers No potential triggers There is some swearing and a couple of sex scenes lightly written. The characterisation is absolutely flawless. Despite this being the first introduction to Flack his strong personality shines through. Addy is perfectly drawn and provides the ideal foil for Flack. The plotline is interesting, although I have to admit that it felt a little forced at points, but I did enjoy the story. The romance element is certainly written into the storyline and is totally engaging. I dislike intensely the 'insta-love' genre where it's all about the sex, which is not an issue with this book. The love grows and Ms Michaels knows how to craft a good romance. If you are a fan of the genre I have no problem recommending the book, which could be read as a standalone but would make more sense if read as part of the series.
Absolutely loved Flack and Addy😍 A different pace for this one from the others but no less enjoyable and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know this shadow and the others better.
Flack gets a surprise visit from Smoke surrounding his niece Brooke. He takes over guardianship of her but in the meantime needs help from his crew and to find a nanny ASAP😳
Addison aka Addy is a former FBI Agent that was medically discharged due to injuries during an explosion. She’s looking to work with Guardian but due to the Siege they are not currently hiring. Looking for something that will suit her skill set and keep her active and not stuck behind a desk, she applies for the nanny position😁
So many good laugh out loud moments and absolutely loved Flack when he was in “lawyer” mode🤩 Excited to see what Ice’s new assignment is about next❤️
I borrowed Flack ~ Guardian Security Sadow World ~ Book 10, by Kris Michaels from the Kindle Unlimited Program.
Flack is a lawyer, a Shadow that researches the worst of the worst criminal in the world and keeping it legal supplies the reports the the Council uses to make it decisions for sanctions.
Never did he see himself taking Guardianship of his sister's little girl, Brooke and becoming her father. When she is being neglected he makes the changes with the help of the other Shadows as they come together to help him. He finds the perfect nanny in Abby, when he is called to do a mission.
In the end he makes the decision to change is position with Guardian and stay stateside with his family. Loved the ending andf how funny some of the situations were through the entire plot.
Another great Shadow Guardian story. Great characters and the book really shows how closely knit the Guardian family are.
Flack finds the evidence of the worst criminals who the law cannot prosecute, then he carries out the sentence. However Flack never thought he would be the legal guardian of his niece.
Addy was an FBI field agent, but her injuries in the line of duty have forced her to leave or take an admin position. However, a nanny position to get her foot into Guardian Security might be just the change she needs.
As usual great characters and interactions between them. This is a slightly shorter book, but a great chance to catch up with former favourites and meet new characters.
I just couldn't get enough of this storyline of Troy "Flack" Masters & his fellow Guardians who all came to his rescue in his time of need. His little niece Brooke definitely was one lucky little girl who had them all wrapped around her finger. And of course came along another kick a$$ woman who was perfect for protecting Brooke & for being the reason Troy fell hard like all the previous men before him from Guardian. I enjoyed getting to see some of the crew reunited together in this story. I learned a lot about each of the men just by how much they each came together as a village for Troy & Brooke! And am excited to see what happens with Ice soon too.
Thank you Kris for another great book & kudos to all your success!
Troy, or Flack, was used to being a Shadow operative and traveling frequently on the job. When he found out his orphaned niece was not being cared for properly by her grandparents he had to reevaluate his lifestyle. The other Shadows stepped up to help him get settled into his new role. When he looked for a nanny Addy applied. She’d been injured on the job with the FBI and resigned rather than take a desk job. She wanted to work for him while she rehabbed her knee and until the Guardian group was hiring again. They were perfect for each other and for baby Brooke.
Flack (Guardian Security Shadow World Book 10) is another fantastic addition to the Shadow series. I truly enjoyed Flack's story. His story is unique as he suddenly must decide whether to take on the responsibility of his orphaned niece. His career as a Shadow for Guardian Security however makes his decision difficult. But, Flack has an amazing support team for 'as long as it takes!'
One last mission in the field takes Flack and his niece's new nanny, Addy out of the country. I loved how Flack and Addy faced danger together, keeping the little girl they love safe. Addy, in spite of a career altering injury, is an amazing addition to Flack's instant family and Guardian Security.
This story was about Troy aka Flack and his family. He was notified that his sister and her husband had died leaving him with his niece. He thought that the grandparents were able to take care of her. But in the end he had to step up. Being a Guardian mealnt that he was not alone. Even though his assignments were solo. Family came in different ways. His new beginnings ment he needed someone to help him. Enter Addy a recent FBI agent who needs a new job. These two were meant for each other.
Wow! Another FANTASTIC story by Kris! This one is about Troy, Addy and Brooke. Brooke is Troy's niece and he becomes her guardian. He searches for a nanny and Addy comes along and as they say, the rest is history. Brooke is so adorable and she basically has the Shadow men wrapped around her little finger. Flack is contemplating his future now that Brooke is his responsibility. The ending was inevitable - HEA. FANTASTIC job Kris! I would highly recommend this book! Can't wait for the next book.
Freaking fantastic story. Kris Michaels is one awesome author. Every story is absorbing and once you are sucked in, it won't release you until you have finished - I tried to put this book down 3 times last night and my brain wanted to know what happened next so I jus tstayed up and finished it (thank heavens I don't have to work today :)
When they say it takes a village to raise a child, they really aren't kidding and I love Flack's village!
I won't say any more so that I don't spoil the story but it's a great read and you should be reading it and not the reviews!
I loved that all these assassins were big teddy hears when it came to Flack’s niece Brooke. They would give their lives for that little girl. Addy was at the top of her FBI team. An explosion messed up her hearing and knee as she saved a little boy. Guardian posts for a nanny for Flack’s niece. Addy takes the job. For 9 months while hopefully getting an investigative job with Guardian. Besides Brooke loving Addy, sparks fly between her and Flack. Nice seeing this side of these men. But not as intense, dangerous, and awesome as some of the other stories.
Flack and Brooke found their heaven in Addy, a very well qualified nanny Addy was beautiful in his eyes, working through injuries on the job and looking for something beyond a desk job she wanted a job investigating, Flack needed to figure out life with a baby, teamwork, chemistry, sparks, could it be more, trouble and treason finds him on a mission as a translator, exciting beyond heaven, Kris Michaels is a genius with words, heaven doesn't have enough star's, thank you, Dana Zamora
I really liked this book. It had humor, action, sweet moments and fun banter. Flack and Addie are so cute together. She’s also very good with his niece. She’s former FBI and fits the criteria for watching his niece while capable of defending them if needed. Flack is super sweet with his niece and I like how fun and romantic their dates are. The action of him going in the field with them was exciting and had me turning the pages quickly. This was a good read and I can see me reading it again. I recommend!
I love Flack and Addy!! Addy is medically retired from the FBI, but doesn’t want a job sitting behind a desk. Flack suddenly has custody of his very young niece and needs a Guardian vetted nanny with specific qualifications. Kris Michaels is a genius in the way she brings them together and guides us through their story. I couldn’t put it down it was so so so good! I love them! Probably my favorite Shadow up to now.
A Guardian becomes a guardian, this time to his niece, after her parents deaths. But Flack can not do it on his own, so he needs a Nanny. But he needs one with specialist skills, and is lucky enough to have a CIA operative apply for the role. Those who have read Kris Michaels books will not be surprised that all three of them are enrolled to take part in a case. And the real work begins..... Happy Reading :)
