★ Duet characters & locations described with a lush and sensual dramatic flair ★

—>>> This is the intense and captivating second installment to Tomás and Carina’s tumultuous story, full of cartel action and suspense which kept me turning the pages. Carina is left swirling in a pit of utter betrayal when a certain truth is revealed, and she once again finds herself released to her own devices. But Tomás’ goal has always consisted of a single thing, to take over the Souza cartel no matter the cost…until the price became for him the cost of his heart, which learned to beat only for Carina. This author has a way of describing characters and locations with a lush and sensual dramatic flair! I cannot wait to follow up on the other characters featured in this story; at one point, the testosterone levels must have been through the roof, and I wish I was a fly on THAT wall…

Tòmas and Carina

I was abit hesitant on my rating as I found that I kept rooting for Carina and all that she was dealing with (and I’m not going to lie but can too much $3x be too much). She had layers that intrigued me, and yes I won’t lie, at times I wished her to not be 19yo but the chemistry between her and Tòmas took awhile for me to grasp onto. At times I felt that the storyline lacked in a way I didn’t know if I was going to finish it, and tbh it was based more on how he’s this alpha cartel boss and you don’t mess with, to unravelling who he is as a person to Carina. I did however enjoyed the book and am curious more about the characters featured in this series.

Another intense, addictive and dangerous dance with the Cartel… we find Carina in the same predicament as we left her in book one. Torn between lies and betrayal. Her head spins with indecision as she tries to figure out who she can really trust… in a world full of monsters and darkness.
This is fast paced and full of action as Carina finds her strength and Tomas finds his heart….
Lots of descriptive prose and extended scenes that were full of drama.
I enjoyed this conclusion to Carina and Tomas’ addictive passion as we were reunited with some old friends and new alliances were formed.
Looking forward to the hound dog Andrè next….seems he might be in a bit of a pickle….!

Hostile King is the final book in Tomas and Carina's Souza Cartel duet. A continuation from Hostile Heir and wow Ms. Archer did not disappoint her Tomas and Carina sor.. This story was phenomenal, twisted, raw, and intense. It was brilliantly crafted with two broken people and multifaceted storyline that captures the attention and keeps them glued and captivating and turning the pages on this rollercoaster ride filled with secrets, danger, violence, drama, suspense, mystery, enemies, adventure, pleasure, violence, darkness, lust, madness, surprises, passion, action, lies, fear, twist and turn, murder, bloodshed, betrayal, abduction, heartaches, deception, love and so much more.
The story was told from a dual point of view. Tomas was dead inside before she came along. She was light to his darkness. Tomas is calculated, ruthless, and cold-hearted. It wasn't his intention to fall for Carina and she wasn't planning on falling for ruthless kingpin either but fate had other plans. She made the perfect queen and fit in the Souza Cartel perfectly. There chemistry was explosive and off the charts and the sex scenes were sexplosive, scorching hot, instense and filthy. There's so much going on in this story from Tomas surprise engagement to the pirate kidnapping Carina. Will these two sit on their kingdom? Will forgive not telling her that he was engaged? Will they get their HEA?

the conclusion I have been waiting for.

This is the conclusion of Tomas’s and Carinas duet, it continues on from where we left off in book one. This book had drama, some darkness, twists and some really steamy encounters. Carina did the impossible and melted the devils cold heart. Tomas was never meant to fall in love as he was promised to another albeit for business purposes only, but she became the light to his darkness, the only one who could calm the beast in him. Loved them both, the surrounding characters and that we got a glimpse of El Fantasma too ! Their battle to prove their love for each other may be over but the war still continues, who killed his father? Why did Bianca do what she did? And what has Andre done? Hopefully we will find out in the next Hostile book. Miss Archer you have a wonderful imagination and I thank you not only for introducing us to el Fantasma but also Tomas, men who love deeply and who would burn the world for their women.

This is the rest of Tomas and Carina's story, and it does not disappoint. It's dark, filled with even more secrets and betrayals. I'm really a fan of his mother - doing what mothers should do by wanting what's best for her son. And I'm falling in love with Andre and his crazy sense of humor ("Nothing beats hardcore foreplay"). Autumn Archer has truly outdone herself once again and delivered another home run right outta the ballpark. Hostile King is the second installment in her Hostile Kingdom : Souza Cartel Series as well as the continuation to Tomas And Carinas journey ( and trust me when I say it’s a series you are not going to want to miss ( it’s a emotional rollercoaster In every sense of the word. It’s filled with intrigue, suspense, drama , non stop action, tragedy, off the charts chemistry , murder , violence, danger , passion, twists and turns, love , romance, heartbreaking and heartfelt moments and so much more . It’s dark , raw , gritty and emotionally charged, not to mention the perfect blend mafia and dark romance. There were moments I was speechless, others I was literally on the edge of my seat heart beating so fast and then bam I’d be crying like a baby . It’s unforgettable, unputdownable and a must read

It was worth the wait to see the HEA of Tomas and Carina's story. Book 2 was full of action and spice. We saw a softer side of Tomas and an even stronger side of Carina. I absolutely love them and can not wait to see what characters will have books next.

This is the conclusion of Tomas and Carina’s whirlwind love story. It continues right where we left off on that intense cliffhanger, and it doesn’t slow down one bit. It was a nailbiter of epic proportions and continually had my stomach in knots.

Their lives are thrown into dark chaos and Tomas and Carina need to learn how to navigate all of the curveballs that keep getting thrown in their path to a happy ever after.

The book is filled with action, suspense, murder, violence, rage, danger, passion and love. It kept me on the edge of my seat, devouring every deliciously dark and sexy moment of it.

I could not get enough of these characters and I hope we get more stories in the dark and twisted world.

Spellbinding Conclusion
Carina Fereira feels betray by Tomas Souza. They had an agreement, but he lied to her and she is lost in the mayhem of humiliation. She thought the darkness living in her matched the darkness seeping from him. Except she was just a fool who romanticized a villain. Tangled in a web of deceit where the Souzas and their new king have underestimated her. Now a storm brews under her new skin. Tomas feels off-balance with his obsession of Carina. He craves her closeness and is lost without her, but he has to set her free. Autumn Archer out did herself when she wrote this well written steamy dark mafia romance with loads of captivating rage, jealousy, violence, suspense and so much more. This is definitely a page turner! Looking forward to reading about Tomas’s brother, Andre, next.

Perfect

What a perfectly dark and twisted way to end a duet.

This picks up exactly where hostile heir ended. With carina and Tomas still fighting for what they both want and facing the world of the cartel. It was fast paced which had me turning the pages as fast as I could.

With the appearance of Dante and Sal it just added in that extra little umph. (Dante and Sal both feature in the jungle oasis trilogy by Autumn archer)

I can't wait for Andres book now

Carina did a 180 degree turn in this book. She was actually down to earth and sometimes realistic. Far cry from book one. This story had me going from page one. It was nerve wracking, tension building, suspenseful and full of danger and death. Tomas never ceased to amaze me. Such a hard man with a heart of gold for Carina. He never believed love existed until Carina came into his life. Andre as usual put a smile on my face. Excellent book. A must read. I highly recommend it.

So we pick up where the first book left off. Who’s the pawn? Who’s the villain? Who’s the savior? Maybe both Carina and Tomas are some combination of all three at time? But shattered hearts don’t care for pretty words when the truth has destroyed them. And Tomas has a lot of explaining to do. But then so does Carina when it comes time to find a way to save everyone.

While this is definitely a darker romance, it’s still exactly perfect for both Tomas and Carina. And their families. Because not everything is sunshine and light. There are shadows, things that go bump in the night, and men who would burn the world to ash just to keep their Queen. Those same men forget just what a woman will do to protect her King though. Tomas doesn’t get it. His brothers don’t. His mother does, though, and she sees exactly who Carina should be to him, so while men may rule this gritty world, it seems that the truly powerful men have women who make moves just as dangerous and bold to make things right. And this is very much THAT kind of story. The grit and grime don’t hide the love these two share. The blood only binds more. And the alliances taken to bring Carina her true happiness may be purer than anything else.

This story is the continuation of the compelling dark and brutal cartel romance between Tomas and Carina. I have been anxiously awaiting the conclusion of their story since the diabolical and treacherous cliff hangar ending in “Hostile Heir”. This book is fantastic! Tomas’ life as a mafia kingpin is dangerous, full of treachery and betrayal. Carina is the one person who can sooth his dark demons and savage soul. She brings peace to his manic world. But decisions have to be made that throws their lives into further chaos. The book is full of jealousy, rage, violence, all consuming lust, possessiveness and love. There is so much love and white hot passion between these two. I love Tomas’s interaction with his family and how he trusts and depends on them. This book is fast paced, full of suspenseful action and is all consuming. I really enjoyed this book and read it in one sitting. I hope that there will be more stories about Tomas’ family in the Hostile World Series. I received a free copy of this book via Book sprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Book two of this series delivered a stunning well written second half to Catrina and Tomas's story. It brings back characters from the "Jungle Oasis" series and introduces new characters which I hope will get their story.

Tomas's is faced with difficult decisions as to Blanca (his arranged marriage fiancé), his growing lust/love for Catrina and the evolving backstory involving the future of his cartel and the lurking enemies behind every corner. Catrina's character evolves into a woman, (no longer a girl) that is faced with difficult decisions that involve love, love lost, betrayal and must claw her way out of Hell to find happiness. It's a suspense driven novel with twists and turns, revelations, characters that resonate with the reader throughout the book (including secondary characters) and a lust filled sexual deep dive into the darker side of sex for Tomas and Catrina.

I like this authors' writings because she knows how to develop a backstory and she knows how to establish a plot and storyline that is unpredictable. Her characters are well defined by giving the reader a close and personal dive into their lives. She doesn't waste her time on unnecessary banter and keeps the novel real. This book ends with Catrina's recurring dreams of seeing the death of the four men she cares about the most. I look forward to seeing how that plays out, because when everything is said and done I want these characters to have their happy endings.

If you like this series, then I would suggest reading the Jungle Oasis series; you won't regret it.

Dnf because;
The fmc is literally so unbearable idek how I got through the first book.
Life is too short to read books you don’t want to.
This girl said to a mafia boss to “prove” that he didn’t intend on marrying someone else, then throws a fit when he seemed to have planned an assassination. Like shut up.
When all his brothers are trying to covertly extradite her out of the country, she has a billion and one questions and decides to make this process long for us all. Like read the room?? It’s a tense situation and there’s no time.
When the mmc is shot, her bright idea is a hospital. That’s soooo smart, let’s take a criminal to the hospital-why not just take him to the police station?
When the mmc is shot, does she stem the blood flow or do anything at all? No, instead we go through pages of her inner monologue.
When his brothers once again try to get her to safety, she decides to argue. Like it’s not the time, she can’t shoot a gun so she’s just a liability.
When he kissed his betrothed, she didn’t to stop and make a scene. Like do you want to be killed?? She didn’t have any common sense.
When he had “assassinated” his betrothed, she decided to run into gunfire just to get away from him because she thought he had betrayed her.

There was also a lot of other stuff but main thing was that she was just really pathetic.

Tomas and Carina's duet conclusion is here and damn what an intense ride this was!!!!

Hostile King kicks off right where Hostile Heir (Book 1) left us, with Carina struggling in a dark world riddled with monsters, lies and betrayal? What should she do? Who does she believe? Is this the end of her and Tomas?
Damn.... this book was fast paced. Blink and you'll miss something. Put it down and you'll desperately want to pick it up to see how to all unfolds.
But.....
Not only was it fast-paced, it was action filled, a little angsty, and dddaaammmnnn SPICY.
I loved that Carina really showed some character growth and found a backbone to fight not only for herself but for others.
Cartel King Tomas is holy heck!!! This unapologetically brutal and absolutely ruthless man shows us another layer to him when it comes to Carina and I fell in love with him that little bit more.

"Her chaos is my sanctuary. Her anarchy is my happiness. Her touch is the cure to my affliction. Her body is my deepest fantasy. Her tortured soul echoes my own. It's all her."

This conclusion to Carina and Tomas’ was damn intense but I loved seeing these two broken souls find a HEA in each other (well the best they can in this world, hehe)
Now.....
Andrè is up next! And oh boy I can't wait to read this.

i actually wish this story never ended lol. be aware: this is the SECOND INSTALLMENT OF A DUET, the first book DOES NEED TO BE READ PRIOR TO THIS ONE. i pretty much write all my feelings in my review for the first book, so i’ll really just summarise it here:

📝autumn archer’s writing talent + ability: 10000/10
👸🏽 fierce, fearless, strong, determined yet troubled FMC
🧔🏾‍♂️sexy, broody, troubled, cartel King MMC
🔪 “touch her and die” vibes
♥️obsession
🌶️ INSANE SPICE! 🔥🔥🔥🔥/6🥵

my only real complaints:
1) i wish there was more dialogue/fight between her brother + el fantasma and Tomás. it felt glazed over and like they just randomly were like “ok let’s be friends”. it didn’t follow the vibe from the rest of the duet if that makes any sense
2) i know that the author probably didn’t add some lengthy epilogue for the sake of Andre’s book, but i just WISH there was a teeny, tiny bit of one because I love this couple so much. I want them to live and build a beautiful life together because that’s what they deserve🥹

Tomas and Carina... how to describe this explosive combination. This book picked up where Hostile Heir left off, but it didn't tie Carina and Tomas' story up with a neat bow. It was evident from the story that Tomas never intended to fall in love with Carina and vice versa, but the heart is stronger than the head. Obviously he went through great lengths to protect her. He did the unexpected to be with her as did she with him. This story was dark and a bit disturbing at times, but written in a way that sucks the reader in until the very end.

“She’s the f**king air I breath. How could I forget about her when she’s everything I never knew I needed, and now I’ve experienced a life with her in it, I can’t, and won’t live without her. So go ahead—shoot me. I’ve already stared death in the eyes and fought the f**ker to reach my girl again.”

That's how a cartel kingpin declares his love.

This review is more for the complete duology!

This was an amazing mafia romance which took me by surprise with some plot twists and kept me guessing what is going to happen next!
I really enjoyed the development of carina throughout the books and seeing her grow into the powerful woman she always had the potential to be was satisfying! She never takes shit from anyone and sasses her way through the books! The way she slowly but surely wins everyone over...gorgeous!
On the other hand Tomas is the perfect morally grey (well really dark grey) villain. He is a cruel bastard and fighting his own demon's but carina brings out his protectiveness to and don't we all love a man who would kill and take a bullet for us? Their chemistry was off the charts.
If you are looking for a dark romance with lots of spice and a badass FMC go read this duology!

This duet truly got better. The intensity of Hostile Heir was unbelievable and I didn't think it could get any hotter and more dangerously Good but I was very wrong!

Carina pledged her loyalty to the souza's and to Tomás, the man she has feelings for and feelings in his world can be dangerous but Tomás has made a deal for the sake of business to marry someone else.

Things take an interesting turn in this book. I freaking loved it, Every single word. I have added other books of this authors to my TBR I cannot wait to check them out because if Carina and Tomás story was this freaking good I can only imagine how good the other books will be.

4 Stars for this Mafia romance!

This is the conclusion to Tomás and Carina's story and picks up right where Hostile Heir left off ... so, if you haven't read the first book, go back and read it. This dark romance will have you saying wtf! Even though Tomás was hostile to Carina most of the time, I could tell that he really did love her and was only pushing her away because he thought that was the best way to protect her. I just don't understand why Carina took Tomás's abuse ... I guess she must have really loved him as well. I loved the banter between the brothers and I can't wait for the next book!

Received as an ARC and leaving my honest review voluntarily. This is the conclusion to Tomás and Carina's dark romance duet and the darkness, violence and bloodshed continues in this book amidst the steam between Tomás and Carina. Unlike the tight plot in book 1, there were some parts that felt a little dragged out and Carina had some TSTL moments but it's forgiveable since she's only 19 and new to the cartel world. She finally 'grows up' when things take a turn for the worse and she has to make a stand. The ending feels like a HFN as the question of who murdered his father is still unsolved.

This book is a duet so the 1st book must be read prior to reading this book.

It's a dark and steamy mafia troupe romance that picks up right where the 1st book left off. From the 1st page the book is filled with drama, suspense, action, and spice. Carina and Tomas have a push and pull relationship and they both are not sure if their relationship will survive the web of lies they are caught in. Carina finds out that Tomas is engaged and it leads to heartbreak, betrayal, and a plan of contingency with the help of their family members.

Oh wow! Just amazing! Such a gritting end to the duet.
Tomas sends Carina away because he is set to marry another woman as a business deal.
I really love the poetic kind of writing Autumn Archer bring in her books. It makes for an intense and dramatic involvement and took my breath away several times.
Full of drama, danger and many many romantic and some steamy moments I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a brilliant ending and I so can not wait for Andre's story. Just wonderful!!

WOW. This book takes off immediately after the first one finishes. Mistrust on both sides of the coin. "Love is death." That's what life is like in the Cartel. Such gut wrenching emotions in this second part of the duet. The twists were phenomenal, the connection to the jungle, way cool. Always looking for home, but it's right in front of them both, both misfits in the broken world. I loved the standoff and not having to make a choice. "Family first." Loved this duet.
