I enjoyed this book very much! I liked the 2nd half a little more than the the 1st. The only reason I gave 4 stars was because for me this was not a book I could binge read. Not because it was a bigger book. But because in just 5 to 6 chapters, SO MUCH HAPPENS for the main character that I often felt I needed a break to process everything lol. But it truly was an amazing story!
Wow! Gotta love Demon, despite his many flaws. Being from Southern Appalachia (Western N.C.) and now living in upper Appalachia, I felt at home with the locales and the people. Loved the part about rural people sharing their "juice" because you may need to borrow some later. Totally nailed the opioid crisis and its many victims from all walks of life. We have seen several close family friends lose their only children due to pain prescriptions that ultimately led to their loss. We all need to be aware that the pharmaceutical industry is not necessarily our friend. Wonderful insights throughout the book, in typical Kingsolver fashion. Highly recommend!
This was my first book by this author. I wasn’t a fan of the writing style. I don’t know if that’s how her style is throughout the book. It took me a really long time to read this book. I took a break in the middle. The story was good and had a lot of details.
A sad reality of your society and its interactions with drugs, we must stand by our family no matter what their problems are, its the right thing to do!
I enjoyed this book so much that I still find myself missing the characters and wishing the story continued even a few days after I completed the novel. This was my first time reading anything by Barbara Kingsglover and I'm certain it won't be the last. I highly recommend this book.
